Moving to NYC soon, do you have any advice?

Kandy

I am a from Boulder Colorado, I am moving to NYC in mid feb. I am a 23 year old white girl moving to NYC for business. I got a job from a friend in the film industry. My pay is good but only ok for super expensive NYC. I have only been to NYC twice in my life and I loved it. Where is a good neighborhood have heard greenwich village is nice. And do you have any general advice. And how bad is the crime? Are there any areas in Manhattan I should avoid? Any General advice would be much appreciated

Answer
Greenwich Village use to be one of the places where it was for artist, but now it is more with high rental apartments, yet some tenement buildings still there with rents more pricey.

You may try looking at some places further north or the outer boroughs like Williamsburg, Parkslope in Brooklyn, Astoria and Sunnyside in Queens, East Village and Chelsea in Manhattan.

Rents usually start off for one bedrooms at $1,500.00 to $2,400.00 a month for a one bedroom and that depends on your budget.

If you are looking, use a suitable broker or real estate agency. Never use Craigslist.

EDIT:
When moving here, become familiar with our subway system, that is how we natives get around. Having a car is a luxury, but not recommended when you have to get to certain places.
MTA website can help you at http://www.mta.info

As far as crime is concern, we are the safest city with measures to combat crime. However we always recommend that you do not display any jewelery, electronic devices (cellphones and Ipads and Iphones), and travel with friends. Be weary of anyone that wants to talk to you asking for directions or want to talk to you on the side.
