Are there any luxury cars that use regular octane gas?

hardto_exp

Are there any luxury car brands that run on regular octane gas? I'm looking for a car between $3000 to $5500, so it probably wouldn't be made in the past 8-10 years. Are there any luxury car (Acura, Audi, Infiniti, Lexus etc) brands that manufacture a model that runs on regular octane?

Answer
technically, any turbo car will run just fine on regular gas. the reason is because turbo applications require (or are fortunate, depending on how you look at it) the fueling systems to operate over a much wider range than a normally aspirated motor. what happens is that the engine control monitors engine knock and sets ignition timing as advanced as possible till it detects knock. when that happens, it simply pulls back timing. low octane fuel will simply cause the knock to happen sooner and you won't get the performance you would normally using a higher octane fuel. in the EXTREME case, there is a point where you fall so far outside the stock map that the car simply won't run.

the bad new is since most turbo cars are performance cars, you typically give up some luxury (with one exception that I can think of) and in your list, it's only audi that sells turbo cars (I think).

the good new is gas is cheap these days so I'd rethink the need for cheap regular octane fuel.

the really good new is one of the best kept secrets in the used car market, the 92-95 Audi S4/S6 fills both requirements. the 2.2 litre turbo is still considered to be a technological marvel, even today. And they are almost free (ok, they meet your price range) considering their original ~$50k base price!

What are some cars that come with leather and are reliable?

Braga

Hi. Im 17 looking for a car. I want to spend around 4.5 - 5k for a car. I was origionally going to go with a Lexus ES300, but its mpg isnt that great and Super gas costs are pretty high. What sort of luxury cars out there that take regular gas and are reliable. I was looking at a Mazda 626, but people have said they're transmission have problems eventually.

Answer
First of all, Mazda 626s, while okay cars, are not remotely considered to be "luxury" cars. The vehicles that fit in this description include Lexus, Infinity, Acura, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Virtually all of them will have leather seats, though there all always exceptions. Unfortunately, the only luxury cars that will be in your price range are going to have extremely high miles on them. If this is not a concern of yours, then go for it. Plan on sinking quite a bit of money into your car the entire time you own it.

Why is TV geared towards the rich if most people in america are poor?

luxury cars are a waste of money on ... on Acura? - beyond.ca car forums community for automotive enthusiasts
luxury cars are a waste of money image

Madness Be

I consider middle class to be rich btw. I can't tell you how many luxury cars I see commercials for in one day. or stock trading. or commercials that assume i travel a lot.

Hmmm a few rich people giving money, or a ton of poor people giving money. seems approx. the same to me, except selling useful things to the poor actually helps people. A 3rd swimming pool or another Lexus does not significantly help a family who is already doing well. So obviously it's not just money.

Answer
No arguments with any of your points.

But to answer your question of "why" - the whole point of TV advertisement is to sell product, and you can only sell product to people with money. If someone has no money to buy a new car, companies are wasting time (and money) trying to convince them they should want to. As far as "useful things" go, you don't need to advertise things like basic food, clothing and other "must haves" - people have to buy that stuff whether it's advertised it or not. You don't have to convince someone not to starve.

It's the "wants" where people need convincing....and poor people can't afford the wants.....hence the TV ads are geared towards those with money.

Fair? Maybe not. But you asked why......and that's the way it is.....

Why do some wealthy people waste their money on useless things?

Robust of

For example, spending $80,000 on a pair of earrings? My family makes a lot of money but my mother has never had the drive to spend that much on a pair of earrings... Im just curious why do they also spend money on luxury cars? Isn't one car enough? My parents taught me not to spend my money like that.. my other friends that are wealthy dont do this though but I noticed people in america, like hollywood do this, and I dont get it.. why?

How good are the manual transmissions for the 2001 Honda Civic?

luxury cars with manual transmission on Ferrari Manual Transmission
luxury cars with manual transmission image

Jerry

'm looking for my first car that I'll buy with my own money. Now I asked my parents about an Infiniti G20, I know it's a great car. Before they said that it was a good car because I've done research on it and told them it's a good car. Yesterday they went to a mechanic to get their tires changed and they asked about his opinion and he said that the maintenance on a G20 is "expensive", so my parents are going on his recommendation of a Honda Civic. I know that a Civic is one of the most reliable cars out there.

Last year I've been looking into civics because I wanted one so badly because of their gas mileage. So I researched the 2001 Honda civic with an automatic transmission and I found that lots of them had terrible transmission problems for the automatic. I'm wondering if the 5 speed manuals of the 2001 Civic had just as bad transmissions as the automatics.

Answer
The manual transmissions doesn't suffer from the bad reputation of Honda's automatics.
Honda, for years, have been making one of the best manual transmissions.
Your mechanic is right, the G20 is an expensive car to maintain. Only because it is a luxury car, and people don't buy a lot of luxury cars (unless it's like a Merc C class or BMW 3 Series). So therefore parts are very limited.
The Civic is a complete opposite. Lots of cheap parts out there because there is a demand for them.

Best car company to shop for a new car ?

Aaron

I am shopping around for a new hatchback. I need the space and portability. I'm looking for a car with good gas mileage. At least 30-40 MPG. And my budget is around 15000. Along with a manual transmission. Considering the large market nowadays for hatchbacks. What company would you suggest to get one from?

Answer
Its really all a matter of preference, depending on if you looking for preformace or utility, luxury etc. My personal opinion is I think imports last the longest without problems. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, and subaru all seem to really hold up. Some people prefer domestic vehicles and thats fine too.

If you are looking at brand new 15,000 then you choice is pretty much limited to a honda fit, nissan versa, toyota yaris, or ford focus... all hatches but not very big. Again not sure what your looking for in terms of size.

If your looking for an all around good hatchbatck subaru offers the forester and impreza in hatchbacks, both of which have AWD if you are taking it off road or alot of winter driving. However the gas mileage due to the AWD is a little bit lower than what you are looking for.

Again to back track, the subcompact hatchbacks that i mentioned earlier all come in a manual, the best gas mileage out there almost as good as a hybrid because they are so small.

But if you are looking for something a little bigger you could even looking into things such as the honda accord crossover hatch. Gas mileage still very reasonalbe with much more space. Or perhaps a VW jetta or pussat or golf wagon.

Botton line depends on how much space you want ---> more space = bigger car = less gas mileage

Whoever names them get the 10 points. I would give thumbs up if I was on level 2, lol.

No muscle cars.
These days it's more of a marketing tool, but the definition is: A low small usually 2-passenger automobile designed for quick response, easy maneuverability, and high-speed driving. -Webster

Answer
If you define "American Sports Car" as a Two-Seater with a soft top or retractible hard top, and limited to vehicles produced since the 1960's, here's my list... not in any particular order...

Corvette
Dodge Viper
Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice (same car different trim)
Cadillac XLR
Shelby Cobra (not mustang)
Chrysler Crossfire
Ford Thunderbird
Plymouth Prowler (More of a hot rod than a sports car)
American Motors AMX (Hard top only, no convertible)

I'm sure there were a few more, but that's about all I can think of...

What kind of car was it that Angelo bought on switched at birth?

Strawbabee

I was watching the tv show switched at birth and this character named Angelo bought this classic car? Does anyone know what kind of car it was I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

Answer
It took me forever to track down a video of that episode, but I finally found it on Hulu. Its the first episode of season 2, and there's a good shot of Angelo's sports car at around 9 to 10 minutes into the episode.

The small emblem of two crossed checkered racing flags on the side is a dead giveaway. That's a Chevrolet Corvette. I can't give you the exact year, because the model looked similar through a number of years, between the late 1950s and early 1960s, but it's roughly a 1960.

Here's a photo of a 1960 Corvette for you to compare, the same color as Angelo's: http://www.buyavette.net/New%20Pictures/181407.jpg

How mutch will car insurence be for an 18 year old boy who has a two door sports car?

sports cars coloring pages on Soccer Ball free coloring sheet
sports cars coloring pages image

Eric

I know someone who is planing to by a camaro and i want an idea of how expenive it would be for insurence.

Answer
This is just about the worst possible place to ask this question. About the best you can hope for here is a wild guess. You would be just as well off picking a random number out of a hat.

For one thing, there are too many variables involved for someone to even give a ballpark figure. Things like your age, gender, location, driving record, vehicle getting insured, local minimum requirements, coverage desired, deductibles, etc.

Keep in mind that if you finance the vehicle the lender will require that you keep full coverage insurance until the loan is paid in full. Your lender will be immediately notified of any changes to this vehicle's insurance status. Full coverage insurance will be significantly more expensive than the minimum liability insurance.

Get up and walk away from the computer.

Walk over to the telephone.

Near the telephone, most people keep a large book

Many times this book will have colored pages, usually yellow

Open the book to the colored pages section and look for the heading Insurance

Here you will find the telephone numbers to people in your area who actually sell insurance. Imagine that.

Pick up the telephone and dial one of these numbers.

A friendly person will answer. This person will be either an insurance agent or a person that works for them. Ask this person your question. This person may ask you a few questions to get some added details. Have the VIN number of the vehicle getting covered by this policy handy if possible. If you do not own the vehicle yet and do not have the VIN then the year, make, and exact model will work.

In no time, you will have a quote on the price. HINT: A quote will be far more accurate than any wild guess that you might get here.

Write down some of the details on a piece of paper. Phone number, name of the person you spoke with, price, deductibles, coverage, etc.

Next, repeat the process using one of the other telephone numbers you found in the telephone book in the colored pages section under the heading insurance.

After you have spoken to at least a few insurance agents, you can start to compare prices, coverage, and deductibles. Then pick the insurance agent that has the best deal for you, call them back, and then strike a deal.

One last piece of advice. You are far better off going through a local insurance agent where you know them and they know you. Letâs say a few months after you get your insurance you get broadsided by an uninsured motorist. Who would you rather be working with? A local person that you know and knows you. Or hear "Press 1 for English", pause "Your call is important to us. Please wait for the next available agent...â a very very long wait, then finally get someone from a far away call center that barely speaks English. Sometimes the cheapest insurance is not the best insurance. Think about it for a bit before you make your final decision.

What is the Aboriginal dreamtime story of how birds got there colour?

Soniaaaaa!

All I can remember is that a bird somehow started bleeding and it got on all the birds except the crow or something? haha

Answer
You're close, the first bird was a peacock, and it wasn't a crow it was a magpie. Here's how the story goes:

Many years ago there was a peacock and a magpie. The peacock had beautiful plumage, very striking, almost fluorescent in some lights. The magpie was jealous, because he was essentially a black and white character.

One day, the peacock was fast asleep, and the magpie shaved the peacock with some clippers and glued the feathers on to himself with Pik Stik. The peacock woke up quickly, and realized he was disgusting, like a ball bag in the wind.

The magpie moved to the city with his new feather outfit and quickly became the toast of Camden. He got a model girlfriend, sports car, and his own chat show, Magpie Moments. When the bald peacock saw the Magpie on the tele interviewing Kurt Douglas he became very depressed, but he worked hard and eventually got his own show, Peacock Dreams.

But it was on digital tele, late at night, and got poor viewing figures. The peacock could take no more and put himself in a cannon and fired himself into Duncan Bijou's back. The incident was front page news and the peacock became world famous, more famous than the magpie.

Also the peacock somehow started bleeding and it got on all the birds except the magpie.

Karma believers-What karma have you witnessed and/or had yourself?

sports cars karma on Your Source For Celebrity Cars | Celebrity Carz Andrew Bynum
sports cars karma image
Q. I've been researching karma all night. It's interesting, but some people believe, some people don't. My question is , what karma have YOU had or what karma have YOU personally seen?

Answer
Karma = "imprint". Everything we do, say, think and feel sets one or another type of imprint within us. In turn, it is those imprints (karmas) that we have set inside ourselves that draw to us the people and situations of our life. Here is a story about karma:

In 1964, folk music was very popular. Everyone was singing the songs, often with other people so we could harmonize together. And you just HAD to have at least one guitar to do this.

I had no guitar. But my older sister had a cheap guitar that had a tinny sound and the metal strings left deep painful grooves in your fingertips after chording for a while. But ... it was a guitar!!!!! I borrowed it as much as I could (sis was living at home while she went to university).

Christmas came, and my sister had no money for gifts. Christmas morning she came out of her room with her guitar in her hand, a bow on it, and gives it to me. She had tears in her eyes, partly because I was so overjoyed and she was moved ... but also because she too loved her guitar and she couldn't afford to replace it. Her gift was a great act of unselfish caring and generosity.

Five months later, sis was walking down the sidewalk. She was walking by some guy packing up his MG sports car, when he called out to her. He said he had graduated and was moving across-country, 3000 miles away, and was only taking what would fit into his car ... he couldn't fit his guitar into his car ... would she like it? He was giving it away.
Of COURSE she accepted, and when she got home and opened up the guitar case, she saw that he had given her a Martin Classical guitar. With sweet, dulcet tones and soft nylon strings that never hurt your fingers, this guitar would cost over $4,000 in today's market.

Now ... about 8 years later I too had an occasion to perform an act of great generosity, taking a strong attachment to something I owned, and turning it into the joy of giving it away. Two weeks later, I got a gift of the same type of item, but of far greater value than what I had parted with.

Once is coincidence. Twice is ... karma.

Things to know about living in Canada?

british sports cars zero on 1929

Darrel

I have gotten a job in Canada as a Electrical Maintenance Tech at a Factory in Brampton. I am going next week to star the immigration process (they told me it would take two months).

I dont know anything about living in Canada. They are putting me up in company housing for a few months while I find living arrangements. I work 3 days of 12 hour shifts and three off at 27.50/hr (Canadian). What are somethings I should be aware of when moving? Crime? Areas to live in? Things to do? The housing building (Really just a longhouse style building with 8 rooms for the folks they bring in from the states) is in Mississauga.

thank you!

Answer
Well I'll start by suggesting I live in Canada and I was floored when I read a box of chocolates costs $75. The box must have been made of gold or platinum.
Rest assured you can buy chocolates packaged in boxes made of cardboard that cost about $3 also.
Granted tournaments may not always 'pay out' but that's what casinos and lotteries and office pools are for; quite often Canadians play games and sports not for monitary reward but for the mere fun or challenge and sportsmanship of it.

"Things to know about living in Canada?"

Generally speaking things are slightly costlier than they are in the USA; the Canadian climate for example doesn't lend itself to year-round agriculture so we import fruits and vegetables, imports are always pricier than domestic.
Conversely Canadians tend to earn a higher wages than their US counterparts so often things balance... a US dollar internationally [todays quotes] is worth .99c compared to a Canadian dollar - that makes a difference also even if just cents.

"Canada at top five in world economic freedom ranking, US sinks to 18th"
http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/09/18/canada-rises-to-top-five-in-world-economic-freedom-ranking-as-u-s-plummets-to-18th/

Culturally... Canada is big on multiculturalism and always has been. It's where black slaves came to escape the US, it's where Native Americans came to escape Manifest Destiny, it's where the Brit United Empire Loyalists fled to, it's where US civilians trying to escape the US Vietnam War draft came to seeking sanctuary.
It is socially unacceptable to disparage anyone based on skin tone, country of origin, what God or Prophet they worship, what gender they are, what their sexual orientation is [unless it involves children]. People ideally aren't judged, period - but if so it's personal merit that we measure - only.

Much is made of Canada having gun control. Fact is the same weapon used in the Colorado theatre shootings is available for sale in Canada. We don't hate guns, we hate violence against our fellow human beings. If you're into weapons keep this in mind, and if you wish to bring any weapons across the border ensure you know what is allowed lest the weapons be seized at the border.
Don't try to sneak any in, that's attempted often and the Border Guards are wise to it.

Canada is a Parliamentary Democracy with Queen Elizabeth II as our Head of State.
She is the Queen of Canada, a Canadian citizen - a right granted to her by Canadians... there is zero British connection in any way shape or form.
In her role as Head of State our Queen follows Canadian law passed down by the Canadian Parliament, the country ruled by the Prime-Minister - put there, or in lieu of voted out of office by Canadians.
If you are one of those US people who think Canada is somehow subservient to Britain, rest easy lol.

Crime...
Los Angeles advertises itself as one of the USAs safest big cities; only 300 murders last year.
Vancouver, where I live - a city of millions had 14 murders last year; 9 the year prior. All Canadians cities have stats like that... random street violence definitely more the exception than the rule.
If you experience crime it'll be property crime, some lowlife smashing into your car and stealing your stereo or valuables type thing.
We save our violence for hockey and lacrosse games.

"Canada's overall police-reported crime rate dropped six per cent in 2011 from the previous year, reflecting the lowest crime figures recorded since 1972. Statistics compiled by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS) and released Tuesday by Statistics Canada showed that the crime rate in 2011 was at its lowest level in 39 years. The decline continues a downward trend that began in the 1990s"
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/07/24/crime-stats-canada.html

The beer is excellent.
The people are fun and social.
That said every village has an idiot regardless of what country you live it, we're not perfect.
Climate is extreme - summer is very very hot and winters literally deadly cold (but we're masochists, we still go outside)

You'll see lots of spelling mistakes up here. That's because we use a different form of the English language than the US does:
color = colour
favor = favour
center = centre
theater = theatre
Ticks me off when spell-check tells me I'm messing up words I'm actually spelling correctly.

You'll have a blast I figure, your wage a half decent one, and everywhere is a good place to live be it in the heart of a city to totally rural - good, just for different reasons.
Best of luck to you while here.

My pleasure!

Is this a good prologue for a thriller novel?

This is the prologue of my new thriller project - 'ZERO HOUR'

July 20, 1996
Ain Sokhna Hilton Resort, Suez, Egypt

He decided to come in the evening.
Hassan Abbas pulled his Mercedes SL-600 into a tight turn, before accelerating into the courtyard of the resort, the suspension expertly absorbing the cobblestones. He glided to a halt just beside the reception block, where he switched off the ignition, snatched up his jacket, and climbed out of the low convertible sports-car.
Walking round to the back, he used the remote locking system to electronically open the boot. The hydraulic arms lifted the carbon-fibre shell, allowing Abbas to pull out his leather attaché briefcase.
The resort just happened to be one of his favourites in Egypt, and the location â just off the Suez canal â could be stunning. He wondered who had recommended the hotel to the man he was here to visit â a man who Abbas knew was a complete sand Arab.
Walking briskly, he made his way across the courtyard, heading for the area where the swimming pool and bar were situated. The heels of his shoes snapped gently on the cobble-stones, giving a steady beat for Abbas to walk against. Walking around the entrance gate, he walked down the brightly illuminated path that led around the swimming and onto the bar that was atop and island in the middle of the water.
He wiped his forehead from the heat â twenty-five degrees Celsius. Even for an Egyptian night, that was very warm. Even he â a man who had lived in Egypt nearly all his life, didnât like this type of heat. Surprisingly, he preferred the British climate.
He walked along the bridge over the pool, and glanced around as he did so, looking for the person he had arranged to meet tonight. Sitting at one of the straw tables, was him.
The man definitely look like an Arab. More of a tradi-tional Englishman than a traditional Saudi. The immaculate grey suit was a direct contrast to Abbasâs relaxed polo-shirt and cream trousers. The shoes the Arab was wearing too, where obviously English leather.
Abbas stopped for a moment and looked around at the location where he was sitting, checking whether there were any other people in the proximity. After assuring himself that no-one would be listening on their conversation, he walked towards the man sitting at the table.
âAh, Hassan.â The man said warmly, standing up from his comfortable seat. He outstretched his hand, and Abbas shook it gratefully.
âSadoun Khamil, old friend, itâs good to see you.â Abbas replied in greeting, as both of them sat down at the small table.
Abbas placed his briefcase onto the ground, leaning it against one of the table legs. He glanced at the table itself. There was all the usual things that one would expect to find on a bar table, joined by an exotic looking cocktail.
âHassan, may I offer you a drink?â Khamil asked, his tanned face stretching into a grin.
âGratefully.â Abbas replied, wiping his forehead again. âPreferably something ice cold.â
Khamil clicked his fingers, and instantly a waiter strolled over to them.
âMojito?â Khamil cocked his head towards Abbas. âWhite rum, sugar, sparkling water, and spearmint. Original Cuban, and all ice cold.â Khamil gestured towards his own cocktail.
âYeah, that will be good.â
The waiter nodded, bowed, and walked away towards the bar, where three other men were sitting.
âAnyway, Hassan, we need to talk.â
âIndeed.â Abbas agreed, leaning down to reach for his briefcase. He picked it up, pushed himself away from the table, and clicked it open. Inside was a Apple laptop computer, a set of pens, and two identical files, each one marked with a simple phrase in Arabic.
Abbas took them both out, placing one on his side, and handing the other to Khamil, before snapping the briefcase shut, and placing it back on the ground.
Khamil had opened the file, and was flicking through the pages. âIâm guessing this is the research you told me about two nights ago?â
âYes.â Abbas nodded, opening his own file.
Khamil nodded too. âIâll tell you now, Iâm not happy about it. Even now, before we have made any contact with them, Iâm not comfortable about it.â He paused for a moment. âIt just seems so, unusual.â
Abbas sat back, taking in what he had just heard. âI too, am unhappy at the implications of working so closely with them, Sadoun, but we must face the facts. We cannot develop this technology for ourselves, at least not within the foreseeable future, and if even if we buy what we need we are still faced with the very difficult and important problem of delivery. My analysis in this report suggests that co-operation is the only option which offers us even a slight chance of success.â
Abbas stopped and waited. The two men were best friends, but Abbas worked for Khamil, and just there he had staked not only his career, but also his life on that single mo-ment. Despite his western appearance, Khamil was a ruthless, barbarian person, and he had extreme powe

Answer
As one thriller writer to another. It's my opinion but I think you overdo the product placement, the adjectives and the adverbs. This is basically good stuff but over-embellished. Setting a scene is necessary but should be done with an economy of words. A good edit's in order.
Talking of words heels usually clip or tap but not snap.
I guess this is a first draft so you won't have picked up the obvious mistake in the passage about the arab who looked like an arab but was dressed like an Englishman.
I find it hard to believe that two Muslims would drink alcohol together. I know they serve it in hotels in Egypt but mainly for the tourists.
I'm not worried about it being a prologue if, as you hint, it takes place some years before the actual happenings in the novel.
I can see where this is going. I can't see them doing a deal on WMDs with the Israelis so it will have to be either the Russian Mafia, the North Koreans or the Iranians. It would be interesting to find out.

I am think about buying a G37 and people are telling me that its a gas guzzler. I checked many websites (including the EPA fuel economy) and everyone states the car gets 19 city/27hwy. In my opinion that is pretty good gas milage for a sports luxury sedan. A lot of other luxury cars have the same exact gas mileage...

Answer
cuz it is, its a huge gas guzzler when you compare it with the Toyota prius doing 40 kph......

its because these idiots who claim that either dont fill up premium or dont do an oil change...... and its true! i had a friend (shes very stupid and tired of how stupid she was) she bought a toyota echo back in 2007 and i must say it saves alot of fuel but she never did one single oil change, that fucked up the engine and guess what, before that she was doing 3 mpg!

How to get mom off of wanting to get a bmw?

DA CHAN MA

Ok well let me tell you guys something. Im 16 and fu#king hate bmws and other luxury cars. Don't get me wrong here there beautiful cars but now some if there modern engineering if full of junk and there really expensive. Mom is telling me she wants a 2013 bmw x5, I keep telling her there full of crap and its going to cost you a lot of money. If u know scottykilmer on youtube he talked about there plastic electric water pump and luxury car parts can be very expensive and hard to fine at the auto parts store. I told her all of that and she still didn't give a crap. Mom is seriously pissing me of lately and she is one of those "woman" that like to spend. Right now when it comes to maintenance on her car its me and dad trying to do all the repairs to save money. Im trying to get her to look into honda or like the new ford escape ecoboost that is such a gas saver compared to the pos bmw suv that uses just as much as a modern v8 truck, no its actually even more! Because it uses premium gas! Now shes telling me she works hard enough to get what ever she wants and I shouldn't be telling her what to do. well shes sort of wrong, she makes my dad pay for most of the stuff and better yet she would probably let my dad help her pay for the bmw and gas. My dad is a money saver and were not rich, but when it comes to mom choices he can't really say anything or ill be arguments and problems. He trys to keep away from that and he even made his own secret bank account for "emergency" money in case we need it but mom is just using the money off her pay check and just spending it all the time and don't know what saving is. I already told her if she gets that bmw I ain't doing don't work on it and she can take it to the dealership to get it done. Heck I might might not even wanting to fix the tire if it was flat too. Me im sticking to the hondas and toyotas I love working on the simple cars like this. I need help on the negatives to changer her mind off of bmw. Me and dad are not done.

Answer
Lets look at the facts, yes modern cars are full of plastics, but the reality is, BMW is the best luxury car and the most reliable. Mercedes is good, but not as luxurious as the BMW. I own a 2010 Audi S4, and it good but started having trouble with it lately so im selling it, and in the mean time im driving my old 2000 740i, its reliable, and the insurance cost on it is laughable. BMW is good, BETTER than that garbage so called Toyota! Toyota is shit, real shit. Buying Toyota is like taking 20k and setting it on fire! Honda and Nissans are good, but they dont ride as good as any German car, listen to your mom, go test any BMW and you will see the HUGE difference between BMW and that shit so-called Toyota.
I still own my 14 years old 740i (Produced in 1999) because the insurance on it is cheap, and its a big and comfortable car. And after i owned it, i discovered that the insurance on it keeps going down and since the day i bought it almost 7 years ago, I only replaced the brakes, which were the original! And stuff like Fluids, tires blah blah. maintenance stuff.

That gives little trouble

Answer
If you want a modern car, but a Cadillac CTS Coupe, Wagon, or Sport Sedan, a Chevy Silverado, or a Buick Regal or Lacrosse. It it is an old car, say, the 00s or the 90s, you can buy a Mercury Grand Marquis LS or a Dodge Caravan. Just an opinion.

Who else likes early 90's sports cars?

Saji82NO

Im not some hipster kid who was born in 1990 expressing some unfounded nostalgia for cars older than me just because we were "made" in the same year. Although I am young, I can remember when these cars were new. In my area one could shoe horn into a drivers license at 14 if your parents had the money to insure a 14 year old. So even in junior high I was eye balling cars. I also remember being able to buy VW bugs (before these garbage new versions) for like $250 in running condition when I finally got my license. Now you can barely find them. Of course my family didn't have the means so I didn't get my first car of my own until I was out of high school and saved enough from working in construction. Even since Ive been through my share of used POS cars and have yet to get a really awesome car that I can be proud of. I haven't really made any money since, and finally find myself well employed so Ive been dreaming and surfing the internet looking at all the cars Ive ever wanted to buy over the past 16 years while I save. Im disappointed though, nothing new compares in looks to say early 90s Acura NSX, Ferrari 348, Nissan Z32, Mitsubishi 300GT/dodge stealth(I remember the first commercial I saw for that car), Toyota Supra, Dodge Viper(remember the television show?), and the RX-7 oh and we cant forget the R32 Skyline(hell throw in the R33 too even though late 90's). I know its a wide range of prices but man those cars just look awesome to me and had performance to boot. Now a days "sports" cars are 5 door econo-hatches, inflated "compacts" larger than full size vehicles of the early 90's, or sorry attempts at recreating the 60's styles with modern plastics and 20" rimzz... I remember when 16" wheels were upgrades and 17" was ridiculous and excessive.

bah! maybe I can find one of those cars and rebuild it. That would be awesome. I guess some of those models extended into early 2000's but by now they have been so dramatically changed I dont even care to follow up with the new "improvements"

Answer
I get what you are saying i love the 90's cars, myself i was born in the 70's and saw many great cars through those years and when the R32 Skyline came out in 1989 i feel in love and wanted one,but only being sold in Japan and the cost it was a no go but i had fun with other Japanese cars and owned some rubbish non Japanese cars over those years, but luckily i have since owned a good few great 90's Japanese cars from the R32 Skyline atm i drive an R33 Spec 2 Skyline and before the Skylines an 200/180sx s13 and my friends also drive some great 90's classics from RX7'S Supra's integra's 300zx and gto/3000gt models and so on and on.

I could buy a new shaped car but yet apart from a small amount and a really small amount i love the 90's models better and those tuner engines might drink fuel but they are great fun to drive.

My Skyline parked with one friends Supra.

Cheapest insurance rates?

I'm begining to look for a "new" car. To help narrow down my choices, I would like to know what kinds of cars would have the cheapest rates. I know there are many factors involved, I'm in my late 30's, male, never had an accident or ticket, married with a 3 year old daughter. I do not want a mini-van, sports car, SUV or pick up truck. The vehicle I am interested in would be a car that gets good gas milage, cheap insurance, is fairly cheap to repair and has a good reliabilty record. Any suggestions that would get me what I'm looking for?

Answer
At your age, insurance is not going to differ a whole lot from vehicle to vehicle. Short of living in a very high cost insurance area (NY, NJ, Metro CA), the car you drive probably will not effect your rates all that much. Once you are over 30, age will not affect your rates til you are about 65 years old (then they tend to go up).

Safety is not a huge ratings factor. Insurance mostly covers your car and the damage you do to another car or person. Short of your state having some awful Personal Injury Protection requirements, safety ratings do almost nothing.

Don't bother with alarms from an insurance point of view. It is usually a 10% discount off of comprehensive only.

Generally cars that you do not see a lot of young drivers driving are cheaper to insure. Honda Civics and Chevy Cobalt are surprisingly expensive to insure. The younger drivers crashing them has "wrecked curve" shall we say. I have seen people trade in clunker Hyundais and buy $40000 Tahoes, and their rates go down.

A Toyota Camry of Honda Accord would be an excellent choice. They are more reliable, refined and have a much better resale record than any of the Domestics (GM/Ford/Chrysler). The only downside is that they are usually a little bit more to insure. Get an idea of what you want, then call your agent for quotes or do it online if they have that set up.

I would also advise reviewing your insurance as whole. You should be carrying at least 100/300/50 liability (if not higher, 300/500/100 will not cost much more). I would say do the highest deductibles you are comfortable with. Just bear in mind a $500 comprehensive deductible means you are likely replacing that cracked windshield yourself (unless your state has seperate window/glass coverage).

A truck is 250 mi due east of a sports car and is traveling west at a constant speed of 60 mph . Meanwhile, the sports car is going north at 80 mph . When will the truck and the car be closest to each other? What is the minimum distance between them?

HINT: First minimize the square of the distance between them.

Time they are closest t=?

Answer
after t hours, the truck would be (250 - 60t) miles away from the original location of the sports car

after t hours, the sports car had moved 80t miles

getting the distance-squared .. . . (we square this to remove radicals)

f(t) = (250 - 60t)^2 + (80t)^2

then
f'(t) = 2(250 - 60t)(-60) + 2(80t)(80) = 0
(250 - 60t)(-60) + (80t)(80) = 0
-15000 + 3600t + 6400t = 0
t = 1.5 hours

f(1.5) = 160^2 + 120^2 = 40000
minimum distance = 200 miles
.. . .. .

What are the different types of astronomy and how do I choose?

Mary Monro

Recently I have been very interested in the universe and I want to be a type of astronomist. I have lots of questions to ask and I need them all answered.

What type of astronomist studies life on other planets and the milky way?

How much do they ^ make?

What are the best schools in the U.S. that provide that type of schooling?

How many years of schooling would i have to go through to get the right education?

What would it be like in that type of career?

Thanks:)

Answer
First off, any profession in this type of field is very math intensive. You must be ok doing a lot of math to have a serious career.
Astronomer, Astrophysicist, Cosmologist study planets/galaxies/universe as a whole. Some people get steered into Physics, Applied Physics, Theoretical Physics and Quantum Physics if you want to know details of how/why the universe is on an atomic/subatomic scale (Really interesting books on those subjects in laymen's terms listed below).
I've had a big interest in astronomy since I took Astronomy 101 in community college, but didn't major in it due to all the math. As an alternative, you can do as I did by joining an astronomical society, a group of amateur astronomers who share the interest. Anyone can join. I'm now training to be a docent on a 24" telescope at a nearby observatory the society has access to. No math involved.
If you are serious, good in math, a couple of Universities near me have very strong astronomy/astrophysics departments: UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz, California.
As for the pay, these people are so passionate about their work they don't care if it dosn 't buy them a fancy sports car. Astronomy-based careers are a beloved life-style on their own.
Hope that helps.

Why do people watch Nascar and not Formula 1?

Rob

I find it boring watching cars go in circles for 500 laps, they should seriously rename it Driving In Circles 101.

Answer
Is it OK that I love both. Both sports are very different. What people love about F1 is not present in Nascar. What people love about Nascar is not present in F1. But listen to what people of each complain about and you'll see that often the other has. Each could learn something from the other. This is a subject I could write about for an hour. But it's lunch time.
