Are luxury cars expensive because of price or maintainance?

luxury cars that are cheap on Luxury and Exotic Car Rentals | Cheap Car Rentals
luxury cars that are cheap image

Jason Sant

I agree, brand new cars are expensive but used luxury cars seem to be very cheap and affordable but someone told me you pay for what you get. There is a really nice 2001 Porsche Boxter I want and its selling for around 12,000 USD which is very affordable and the milage is around 117,000. People told me expect to put in $2-3000 more into the car for maintainance in the first year of owning it. I live in Hawaii and my friend who bought a Mercedes told me that some auto shops won't even take in her car and its pretty new from what I heard and for the ones that do take it in, they charge her $500 just to change oil and other simple stuff.

Answer
They may not work on your friend's car because they don't have the equipment to properly maintenance a new vehicle. Some require specialty tools and procedures.

The reason luxury cars are more expensive has to do with options. A Suzuki doesn't have the same options as a Mercedes S Class, hence the added cost. But keep in mind that a similarly equipped VW model doesn't cost as much because you're also paying for the prestige of owning a Mercedes, and in some cases the reliability.

What are some cheap luxury or sport sedan cars?

I'm looking for a cheap luxury car a sporty sedan car, or a car with nice horsepower (like a mustang, camaro, etc.). However I have a price limit. Looking for cars under $20,000. Help me please! Need a nice list!

Answer
Acura TL and the Acura TSX. Both can be get used pretty easy with 20k, and they would be pretty new. Reliable, sporty, and luxury all combined in both.

I heard Car rentals auction out their cars for really low prices. One of the workers told me that they sold a Nissan GT which is worth 79k for 21k and the milage was only 12000 but unfortunately they stopped selling them to the public and now sends them to car dealerships. I want to get the best deal for my luxury car.

Answer
No offense but if you want a cheap luxury car, you probably don't have the money to pay for the maintenance of the car. Insurance is going to be higher and average cost of ownership is $10,000 a year or more for luxury cars.

If you have really bad credit can you get a luxury car like Lexus if you give a good down payment?

Jem

Specifically a 2010 lexus rx350 from a used car dealership also how much would be a recomended down payment?

Answer
Terms vary per lender, depending on the lender. One thing is sure: if you have bad credit, they'll ding you with a higher interest rate (maybe ridiculously high). As for down payment: the more, the better! Cash is "king"! Personally, I don't even like to consider putting down anything less than 25%... But that's just me.

When it comes right down to it, you have to do the math on payments you can afford each month and for how many months. (I wouldn't consider anything more than 60 months, for payments totaling no more than 15% of monthly take-home... But that's just me!) You won't be able to use an online monthly payment calculator (or your own business calculator) until you know all the terms, such as interest rate, term of the loan, etc.

I recommend you not overextend yourself!

Is there a relationship between video games and bad grades?

sports cars racing videos image

fgoal13

I am doing a research paper, and the topic I chose is the relationship between grades and video games. Do you believe that there is a relationship between the two?

Answer
I wouldn't blame it on the video games as much as I would the parenting of the children who excessively play them.
Personally, I have found that certain games actually improve grades with my children.
They are allowed only specific amounts of time to play with rules surrounding those times.
#1 90% of the games my children play are educational
#2 All homework must be completed before games can be played

We use the video game as a reward in our house, the kids need to earn video game time. It is also limited to no more than an hour per week.

The educational games are fun for the kids, plus they are learning while having fun.

If you are focusing your study for an older audience, like high school kids who play "shoot 'um up" games, sports, car theft, car racing, or other such games with no time limits or expectations, then the grades of these people most likely do suffer from it. Again, I would stand by the belief that it isn't the games fault as much as it is the parents for allowing the endless game play to happen.

Help with telling the difference between street bikes?

ccollin13

I'm looking to purchase a street bike soon. Probably a cbr 600 or gsxr 600. I've only rode dirt bikes before and all I know is 4 stroke and 2 stroke. 4 strokes sound deep and 2 strokes are high pitched. When I shop around for bikes on Craigslist, everyone says there bike is a 4 stroke or 4 cylinder. Now when I watch videos on YouTube, people ride there cbr600 and they sound high pitched like a 2 stroke. Do the 4 cylinder bikes sound high pitched? Reason I ask is because if I'm spending so much money on a bike, I definitely want it to sound like one.

It's a rediculous question but I'm 19 and If I'm spending this much money on something, I want it to be exactly what I like. Thanks for the help anyone and everyone!
This is the sound I'm wanting.

http://youtu.be/U9i11rLYiIM

Answer
If you are used to dirt bikes you are used to singles. I ride singles on the streets also. I rode a Suzuki Savage (S40) for over 8 years. On the Interstate, doing 70 mph, the exhaust tone is a low 38Hz. The vibration is similar to one of those massage beds in a cheap motel.

A four cylinder racing motorcycle will be singing 12,000 RPM and the exhaust tone is 400Hz -- a hum quite similar to telephone's dial tone. The vibration is similar to a dentist's drill.

I remember the first four-cylinder Honda in Detroit, I thought it was in '67. Didn't like it. It sounded like a sports car, not a motorcycle. If you want a motorcycle that sounds like a motorcycle you need a Thumper, or, at worst, a twin.

Which is the overall better car, BMW M3 vs Jaguar XF?

luxury cars vs sports cars on Blogs about gifts and presents
luxury cars vs sports cars image

John M4

Which is the better overall car, obviously its BMW but it drinks alot more gas. What is your opinion?
Hop off man, I am fu**ing asking for opinions.

Answer
You're really comparing apples to oranges. The M3 is a purpose-built sports coupe, and the XF is a luxury sedan that just happens to come in Supercharged flavor. The XF is not offered with factory performance options other than big brakes, while the M3 is geared toward the enthusiast with many options and aftermarket performance accessories available. So a better comparison would be the Jaguar XKR against the M3, in which case it's the XKR all the way.

EDIT: Oh, and someone obviously missed the recent JD Power press release in which the Jaguar XF beat out BMW in reliability tests:

is an audi r8 a car you would drive on a daily basis?

CL

the other day i saw a r8, it was a beauty, but i just want to know, are those type of cars a everyday car, or would you just drive it for a night out on the town?

Answer
The R8 is meant to be a daily driver. It was designed to compete directly with the Porsche 911, which was considered the most practical sports cars out there, until Audi made their R8. The Porsche still beats the Audi at seating (4 vs. 2 respectively). Both cars are at the right price point for driving daily. Ferraris and Lamborghinis are too low and expensive to risk going out every day. And cheaper cars such as the Corvette ZR1 are designed to go fast, but sacrifice everything else like comfort, luxury, build quality, and practicality. Most of this is my opinion, but I'll use Clarkson as a confirmation as seen at the link below.

Who is able to afford a luxury car?

luxury cars 60k image

wooball2

I was returning from a vacation a few weeks ago and on the way back I decided to go back through Washington DC instead of Baltimore. All over the Capitol Beltway were luxury cars. Mercedes Benz, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. I know Washington DC is an overall well-off area but my question still remains. Who is able to afford a luxury car? Who are these people? What are their professions? How much money do they make? Just curious.

Answer
Who is able to afford one and who actually has one is not the same thing.

What you're asking is who can afford one. What you're observing on the road is who has one. There are plenty of people with no emergency fund, little saved for retirement and are living paycheck to paycheck that buy stuff they shouldn't. That's a lot of what you see.

Personally, I would never buy a car that exceeds 1/3 of my annual net income.

To me, that means if you're buying a $50K car, you should have a NET of $150K/yr, which means a gross of closer to $200K/yr.

Most people that buy $50K cars don't make that......if you don't care too much about savings, retirement, fiscal responsibility and don't mind a 72 month loan, you can get a $50K car for about $750/mo, which is $9,000/yr. If your priorities are in the wrong place, someone who makes $60K/yr can do that, and plenty of people make $60K/yr.

Why would you pay 30k for a Lexus when you can get the same car- a Toyota for way cheaper?

MisterDG

What is the deal? Toyota and Lexus both use the same cheap quality parts, just because Lexus reputation is so high as a luxury car doesn't make it better than other luxury cars. For example an Infiniti M45 or an Audi's a typically around the same price as Lexus's and they use way better parts.

Answer
I look at it the same way. Also, why would I want to buy a car for 30k when I can buy a decent - in shape house - for the same price, put 30k more into it and turn it around and sell it for 100k? Then use that money to buy a car that is 3 yrs old, 60k miles with 2yrs left on the the warranty for about 5k and walk away with money left over. When cars become the prices of small homes or 6 yrs worth of house payments, it's definitely time to rethink the economy in which we live.
Sorry for the ramblings, but I hope you see what I am getting at.

How can you possibly win while a blue smoke coming out of his car? Did he put something in the gas to make it go faster? That night at Richmond. Seeing a car with a blue smoke to win is disturbing, I want NASCAR to investigate!

Answer
Yea I saw that. And I believe you are right. In fact that is about the only thing I saw in that race was the blue smoke coming out of the car.

If you haven't been able to tell by now, NASCAR targets people they don't like and people they do like they give an advantage.

Look at Jeremy Mayfield. He gets caught with a false positive for a drug test and he's still not racing.

Then look at the France's family (J.C. France) who gets busted with a bag of cocaine. He gets out of the ticket on a technicality and NASCAR allows him race again.

I really hate NASCAR to be honest with you. The more I learn about the France family, the more it ruins the sport.

They (the France's) are absolutely the sorriest group of people I can say I have met.

How to market a vacation rental right outside of Paris, France?

sevbv

I am planning to buy a one bedroom, 600sqf, to turn it into a short-term lease or vacation rentals in october 2007. Since it is located outside of Paris (Sèvres) a 10 mn walk to the nearest subway station, how can I entice people to come and stay at this place. They have so many offers in Paris. What would be more interesting? I am remodeling it entirely (brand new appliances, new mattress, new floorings, paint, wiring, and everything) and will furnish with antiques, or located next to French Open, sport and event arena, Versailles, Seine banks, or since it is a ground floor and I live next door, it would be perfect for elderly people or women traveling alone? I cannot rent it for more than 300 $ a week for 4 people so the price could be a real plus. Can anyone help me write a short enticing text to hook people to stay with me since I have mortgage to pay on it? I have no experience in marketing and selling rentals by owners...Has anyone any leads? Thank you!!!

Is Scion FR-S 2013 Consider a sport car, or a sport sedan? and How much will it raise my car insurance?

luxury cars texas on Houston Car Rental - Luxury Car Rentals in Houston
luxury cars texas image

George

Like I heard that a 2 door sedan is when it has more than 33 cubic feet of rear interior volume...
How much will it increase my insurance by? (In texas) Currently have a 2002 Toyota Sequoia I'm 17 so the insurance will be higher if I'm below 25.

Answer
It is a sports car. And it is a coupe.

Classifications:
Sports car.
Economy car
Luxury car
Super car
Muscle Car

Sub-Classifications:
Sedan is a 4 door car.
Coupe is a 2 door car.
Hatchback is a car that has a trunk that opens with the rear window.
Station Wagon is a hatchback with a longer wheelbase.
SUV
Pick up
Van
MiniVan

Insurance should be higher. The newer the car, the higher it is. Plus, it is RWD, 2 doors, and sporty. I don't know how much your insurance is now, but expect to pay an additional $50 per month.

Hold old do you need to be to rent an apartment in texas?

Blossom

also how old do you need to be to lease a luxury car?
what if my mom did it for me, but it would under my name? would that work?

Answer
Minors cannot enter into legal contracts such as apartment leases and car rental agreements. You would need to be at least 18.

That said, companies can set their own criteria. Most apartments will rent to 18 year olds; most car rental agencies won't rent luxury cars to anyone under 25.

But then you want to spend the thousands and thousands of dollars it will take to supercharge it?

Hi, Im a 19 year old guy and was offered a 1995 red ford mustang 2 door 6 cylinder. I know insurance is gonna sky rocket because its a sports car and because of my age but i was told there is a way to have the car labeled as a classic or something and that can help lower insurance. If anyone has any info to help me out with this it would be awesome.

Answer
On a car that old, you don't need collision so just buy PL & PD the minimum..and I think the 6 cyl is lots cheaper that a v8..so it may not be as bad as you think...call a broker for a estimate..

Should a twelve year old own a sports car?

bradiousit

My pal (who is a reckless speed demon)just bought a high performance convertible sports car for her twelve year old daughter on the pretext that she will teach her car safety first, and monitor her driving carefully when she begins to drive. In the meantime she will take her down remote country roads to teach her how to drive. Both parents are speed demons and have scared me with their driving. Am I too cautious? I worry for the child's safety. Perhaps I'm a prude. I was seriously maimed in a major car accident when I was twelve and went through hell as a child.

Your friend just bought herself a convertible because she wanted one and justified it by saying it will be for her daughter in 5 years.

how much does an average teacher win in NYC?

luxury cars rental nyc on Exotic Car Rental & Luxury Car Rental - Gotham Dream Cars
luxury cars rental nyc image

MrQuestion

That's my question? Is there like an average wage for Teachers or it depends on your experience, education, etc.

Also I heard that if you don't win at least $125.000dollars you wont make a good living in NYC.

Answer
Salaries are not ' won '. They are earned. A teacher's salary is based on her educational attainment. The starting salary for a New York City teacher is about $48,000 per annum. Without becoming a supervisor , a teacher can make up to $100,000 per annum. In NYC, making that range of salary is okay if you live in the low to middle income areas. However, if you live in the upper echelon, it is almost impossible to live comfortably based on the cost of living I.e. luxury rental, car, garage rental, groceries and etc.

Could I afford to live comfortably in New York City with this occupation and income?

PER92

I am hoping to become an Urban Planner. According to PayScale.com, the average salary for those with 20 years of experience is US$97,250. How far out from New York City would I have to be to live comfortably on that income? Could I live comfortably in Manhattan, or Brooklyn or Queens?

Also, is it common for people to start out living maybe an hour away from NYC somewhere in the metropolitan area and then as their income rises move closer in over time?

Answer
To Gertrud - you've clearly never been to Brooklyn or Queens, and maybe not to Manhattan. He could live comfortably in ALL of these boroughs on that salary - very easily. Particularly easily in Brooklyn and Queens.

The nicest, more expensive areas of Brooklyn are Williamsburg, Greenpoint, the Heights and Park Slope - the average rental prices for a one bedroom in these areas are $1800 - $2200. On $97K a year, you could VERY comfortably afford this - you could probably comfortably afford a two bedroom on that salary, as long as you don't have a drug problem or gambling addiction that you're not telling us.

In Queens, the nicest areas, in my opinion (however, my opinion may be less informed than Brooklyn, since I didn't grow up in Queens and never lived there, only visit frequently) are the areas of Bayside, Forest Hills, and maybe Astoria (Astoria mostly nice, though, because it's so close to Manhattan). In Forest Hills, I have friends who have a one bedroom for $1500 - others who have two bedrooms (and share the apartment) for $2200. In Astoria, it may be a little more, but you get the picture - it's really cheap to live in Brooklyn and Queens.

Living in Brooklyn now, in Sheepshead Bay with a roommate, my share of rent is $600. I'm a grad student, with only a part time job, and I live well - I'm able to splurge, go shopping, have a gym membership, keep a car and insure it, have all those luxuries. It's a nice area, full of Russians and Hasidic Jews, it's unfortunately a hike to Manhattan (though I'm not complaining) - you can find a large, well lit one bedroom here for $1200. Great deals - but it's about 40 minutes away from Manhattan. If the commute doesn't bother you, and you're looking to save as much money as possible on rent, look into Bay Ridge, Brighton Beach, Bensonhurst, Midwood and Sheepshead Bay - great, safe, family friendly areas with half of the rent that you would pay in Brooklyn North.

You could even live in Manhattan on that - the average rental price for a one bedroom in downtown Manhattan is $3000. That's $36000 a year - leaving you $60K a year (before taxes) to play with, save, pay for bills, etc. Don't listen to these people who have clearly never lived in the city, or are under the impression that it's more expensive and unlivable than it actually is. Come and visit for a few days and get the idea yourself. You'll be fine.

As for your last question - actually, most of the people I know start out in the city, and then move farther out as their incomes increase and they can afford to buy houses. I'm only 23, so there aren't a LOT of people in my age group doing this, but my friends' parents or older siblings tend to do this - after graduating, working a few years, and getting a good savings account set up, they move to Westchester, Connecticut or Jersey.

Will I have to pay emissions fee, if my car fails? This question applies to colorado only?

manin_char

I'm about to go get my emissions done so i can renew my plates. I'm pretty sure you can test your cars emission for free, if i fails, but you would have to pay if it passed, is this correct?

Answer
In certain counties of the state, in order to register and title a vehicle you need to show proof your vehicle successfully passed an emissions test or a basic check.

A complete test, or "enhanced test" is required in Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson as well as parts of Adams and Arapahoe counties. Even if you happen to live in a county that does not test, or only has the basic test, yet you commute into these areas, then you also need to pass the enhanced test.

A basic test is required in parts of Larimer, Weld, and El Paso counties. The area boundaries can get confusing, so if you are unclear as to your county's requirements just give the local title and registration office a call.

Enhanced Testing
Envirotest Inc., sporting the name Air Care Colorado, runs the enhanced testing program in the seven areas named above. The company operates 14 centers, open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday.

The enhanced or I/M240 test is necessary for all gas-powered cars produced in 1982 and after and is valid for two years. When you receive your registration renewal card in the mail it will specify whether you are due for the test. The fee is $25 payable by cash or check.

What about internal control weaknesses for businesses and accounting?

I am studying internal control and internal control weaknesses and I do not understand the concepts at all. Here is the question being asked, and I would appreciate and explanation if you know such, I really would like to actually learn about this idea.

Are there internal control weaknesses in these situations? How can these people hurt their companies?

John Munson works as a security guard at VALID parking in Denver. Munson has a master key to the cash box where customers pay for parking. Each night, Munson prepares the cash reports that shows (a) the number of cars that parked on the lot and (b) the day's cash receipts. Lilly Cruise, the VALID treasurer, checks Munson's figures by multiplying the number of cars by the parking fee per car. Cruise then deposits the cash into the bank.

B. Eloise Fulton is the purchasing agent for Milton Sport's Equipment. Fulton prepares purchase orders based on requests from division manager of the company. Fulton faxes the purchase order to suppliers who then ship the goods to Milton. Fulton receives each incoming shipment and checks it for agreement with the purchase order and the related invoice. She then routes to the respective division managers and sends the receiving report and the invoice to the accounting department for payment

Answer
A. There is no way described to verify that the count of cars is correct. Thus, the security guard could skim cash and underreport the number of cars parked.

B. Fulton proveides the internal control by checking the goods received vs payments.

How do I protect my assets in times of recession?

I have no faith in the dollar. The economy is going down the drain. I don't want to put my money in the bank because the dollar is just going to depreciate. The only thing that seems to raise in value are gold and food. Is it too early to give up on the economy now and invest my money in things that have more value? What advice can you give me?

Answer
It all depends on how much cash you have and how long you can miss it for investment purposes.

I put about half of my money in mutual funds (tax friendly assets because I won't have to pay estate tax over their value) and half in savings accounts (part of it tied up for 10 years to nail down a 4.25% interest rate). The reason I put some of my money in savings is I plan to buy a house in about 5 years and I do not want to have the risk of waiting for a down stocks market to rise again.

I trust stocks but you need to have the luxury of waiting for the right moment to cash in. My mutual funds investment are for retirement purposes so I have all the time in the world.

I only lost money in gold so I would never advise that for anyone. Of course for me it is different because I take a double risk (gold price in itself and USD vs EUR currency risk).

It is important to ask yourself. Why am I saving this? Is it for retirement, or for buying a car in a few years or something else? The amound and timeframe will dictate what options are most feasible.

do women in general like to drive luxury cars?

A

or do they like economy cars? or, if not, cars with leather seats.

Answer
Well atleast with my wife. When we were first dating she was driving a neon i had a dakota 4X4 V-8 she was scared to even drive it. I got her used to it and before i knew it whenever we would go someone she would take my keys and drive my dakota. When my lease was up we were married at that point. We decided to buy something. She shocked me the first thing she said was durango. I was all for it i leased one before and loved it. Now she has a durango with a hemi. Now i have a hell of a time just getting her to take my car just for the day vs driving the durango. So i think atleast with my wife she prefers sitting up higher, having a good amount of power under the hood (350 horses) and yeah heated leather seats are nice in michigan.

Answer
Nissan Pulsar. You probably won't find one though.

look for a Toyota MR2. or a Pontiac Fiero. both are cool sports cars from the 90's.

What kind of car could i get with good gas mileage that i like?

I like cadillac escalades but they have horrible gas mileage and what is a car like that with better mileage..i also like mustangs and sports cars like that

Answer
Hybrid cadi Escalade, it gets 23 hwy and 20 in town! MSRP: $74,135... Which is $10,000 more than the non hybrid version so even though it gets better gas milage you don't save a ton because of the increased cost. But it does get much improved gas milage over the non-hybrid version. Another con is that the hybrid engine parts are expensive to fix! More cost, just my two cents.

So here's the a scenario. My dad owns a business and decides to buy himself a two sports car that cost from 100k-200k within a three year time span. Now a neighbor who just happens to see these cars parked out on our driveway ask himself how does this man afford these. And he just happens to call the IRS for tax fraud or whatever. Will the IRS take a look into this, and will owning two sports car be valid as evidence?
Okay. I don't know how much my dad makes, but I know his business income is 300k.

Answer
YES any one can do so BUT they really do need some good hard proof for this purpose and time when they do so in order for the IRS to get involved with it at that time in your life.
Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 04/23/2013

I have 6000 (preferebly under) to spend on a used car. What are some of the most reliable/fuel efficient cars?

cheeky

I just sold my sports car due to gas milage and being a struggling college student insurance kind of stunk. I have 6000 (but prefer to spend 3500-5000) on a car. It has to be fuel efficient, reliable (i replaced a transmission in my previous car, and know there will be bills with a used vehicle, but it'd be nice if it had a low maintenance reputation), and under 100k miles. A manual is preferred as well.

Some cars i've looked at

cobalts 05-08 (although reviews were scattered and claim all types of problems)

Civics (seem to be overpriced as people ask well over kbb)

Vw jetta tdis (high high miles.)

I'm asking if anyone has any suggested years or models to help me out if possible, thanks for your time.
I forgot to mention slight details. It will need a clean title, and hopefully have decent resale. I don't plan on keeping this car over 2 years before i give it to my girlfriend.

thanks again!
-response to brent.

Appreciate the response, unfortunately 18mpg is what i previously got. I know crown vics run forever, but they're boats in their own way.

I plan on paying off the vehicle in full, and i can do the required tb change at 100/140k every car requires for parts cost in my garage.

I believe 5-6000 is a very reasonable budget for a basic model car 50-90k miles, i don't expect a new off the lot vehicle but considering it's a buyers market i don't see any reason why i shouldn't be able to meet my expectations!

here are some links i picked up just browsing local craigslist. I just need to know what's the best bang for the buck in terms of pairing fuel economy and reliability.

Answer
Go get yourself a late 90s (or younger if you can budget it) Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis (without airbag suspension), pay it in full and get liability insurance with uninsured motorist and enough PIP to get you buy.

Problem solved.

Not the most fuel efficient car, but I'd trust it a lot more than an overpriced POS econobox. Besides, beggars (you) can't be choosy. You need a car that works before anything else and those Ford Panther cars do just that. Your requirements are out of your budget and most econo cars (like any VW and many Hondas) under 100k miles have timing belts and you're going to be forking out over $1000 just to deal with that pretty soon as most of those cars have (tah dah!) a 100k timing belt change interval.

Glad to help.
