What do you consider a satisfied living financially speaking?

GMRCompany

By satisfied i mean you own a home, you have 2 cars, you take your 2 or so vacations every year, you're able to feed your family, you're capable of affording necessities and certain luxuries. Also name the state where you currently reside because financial stability differs from state to state for example living in NYC maybe making $100,000 is not even stable but in Georgia it may means you're living in upper class. What yearly income would you consider stable in accordance with the above terms?

Answer

Trust me I am not moving out there to try to act or anything like that, my husband got a great job offer and I will be back in school, but we were wanting to make some informed descisions about our move and trying to get used to the expenses

Answer
It really depends on where you live and what type of air conditioner you have. If you need to use your air conditioner quite a bit, and you have central air in a small house, it will cost you from about $200 to $500+ a month during the summer. (And later if it's hot like it is now, 112' in downtown LA yesterday!!) If you live in an apartment and don't use your window air conditioner that much, maybe $100 a month during the summer. If you leave it on all the time, it will cost more. I know guys who leave their central air on in a small one bedroom apartment in a hot area (the valley) and end up with $500+ a month electric bills during the summer.

You can usually expect your gas or electric heating bill during the winter to be similar to what your electricity bill was during the summer. Water may be included in apartment rent, or for a small apartment you could expect to pay maybe $20, depending on your water company. For a house, water can run from $50 to $500+ a month depending on water company, on the high side if you have a lot of lawn and plants to water, etc.

Everything is going to cost you quite a bit more, consider an additional 10 - 15+% for your basics, like food. Car insurance is expensive, and because LA is so spread out, you will likely drive more, so gas will cost more than you're used to. Housing will be much more. A small single apartment without many amenities in an OK area will start at $900. In a desirable area that same apartment could run $1100 - $1500+. A one bedroom of the same type might start at $1200, but you could pay $1700+ in a desirable area. A luxury one bedroom will start at $1200. A small condo in an OK area will start at around $350,000, a tiny house will cost you $500,000. But your basic 1500+ sq ft house in a nice neighborhood (but not Beverly HIlls or Santa Monica nice) will start at around $700,000 and can easily cost a million $ in a desirable area like La Canada-Flintridge or South Pasadena. Double that for the most desirable westside of LA areas.

You want to live as close to work or school as you can. Our traffic sucks and it takes much longer than you might think to commute. It's very stressful.

Is it true that Midwestern States are extremely safe?

Ahmed H

I was talking to an American friend of mine who lives in San Marcos, California (near San Diego) when he mentioned that the Midwestern states are known for its friendly people. He also added that the small towns there are very very safe because everyone in these towns is familiar with the rest of his town's people. He added that these places are so safe that people usually sleep without unlocking their doors at night!

Is this true? If so, does anyone know of places such as these? In which states do such towns exist?

Now speaking about big cities and their affluent areas, I think safety would be the greatest luxury someone could enjoy; along with cleanliness and friendliness of course.
Yeah! But what about the small towns? Are they "extremely" safe? Or are they as safe as for eample: Palo Alto and Los Altos, California??

Answer
The Midwestern United States refers to the north-central states of the United States of America, specifically Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Of these states, I feel ALL are safe but Illinois (Chicago BIG crime area!) I have been to all of them (live in one) and always treated as 'one of their own'. Very friendly, caring people...and you mention small towns..they are the BEST! Your friend is right! We leave doors unlocked, keys in car, expensive toys and bikes left out..nothing has ever been vandalized or stolen any place I've lived or visited. Police even stop unfamiliar cars (out of state plates), just to see their purpose for being there..as small towns ARE the safest places to live. Everyone is treated as an individual and not just a number. Traffic is the best too! NO RUSH HOURS! People from the East and West Coast move here just for that! True, when enough do, I imagine things will change, as they will bring their bad habits with them, but for the last 40+ years, they're the best way to go! Schools are small, so students get better attention. Safety, cleanliness, friendliness and cost of living are the best! Try it!! You'll definitely like it!!

Which car should I buy under 10k?

gtm18

I'll be turning 18 on october and thats when I will be taking my road test. As of right now my family doesn't have a car and my dad will be buying me one under $10,000. I really want an Escalade or a Tahoe, but i've only found used Escalade in my area. The first is a 2004 Escalade ESV with 144K miles for $9,900. The second one is a 2004 Escalade with 161K miles for $5,900. Which would should I get? Ive driven a ford f150 truck for the last 2 years so i'm sue to driving big trucks. Since the Escalade ESV is longer then the regular Escalade would I have a problem driving it? I plan on using the car for school and job. I'm hoping that it'll last me at least 4-6 years. Thanks in advanced

Answer
You need to also think about insurance and repair costs. Tahoes are very cheap to work on. Escalades are more expensive, but still cheaper than luxury imports. If it were me I would spend $5-7000 on the car then leave the rest for repairs, insurance, gas, etc.

car advice 2002 ford taurus?

VSangel

i need to know if buying a 2002 ford taurus in utah is good or bad and why and if not whats another good car under $7000

Answer
I bought a ford taurus. And at only 99xxx miles the heat went out, the head gasket went out ($1300 repair) the shocks in the back need replaced relgiously, the engine lights on. And its a sensor replaced directly in the engine tht effects my miles per gallon ration and ohh its only a $800 repair... The wheel wells are rusted to hell. The car overheats and the engine coolant resevoir wants to blow after driving in the city. Im scrapping my 99 taurus and idc if urs is a 07 its the same platform and engine different body... Iv heard the same from those tauruses. Truth is these cars are horribly engineered and ruined fords rep in my eyes. I did nothing to this car to deserve this. Take ur 7 grand and buy someee gm products. Chevy has versions of taurses to like luminas, but buicks are solid. Cadillacs oldsmobile pontiac to. But if ur really looking for a dependable car and not horsepower and luxury and style, go with asian car maker like toyota honda nissan there great but idk. I like the tough look. Idk.

03 Volkswagen passat or a 97 acura?

luxury 4x4 cars uk image

Nick S

So my friend and I have a little gripe. Both of our cars are clean and are in good shape. He has a 4 door 03 passat with a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine with turbo and its manual. My car is a 97 (yes old but taken care of well) acura cl coupe with a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder vtech engine and its an automatic. As far as speed goes which would you rather have? Luxury? And practicality? And just in general?

Answer
Acura any day! I work for Honda in the uk. I bought a 11 year old Landcruiser (101k for £7000) to to my wife's horses rather than a a newer 4x4. I could have got an 06 Kia sorento or 04 Tuareg for the same money.

Why does Nissan have 3 sports models for JDM?

Baby Boy

Silvia, Skyline, and Z. All were different models and have been produced along side each other for their entire lives. Yeah, Japan has a huge car culture, sweet, but then why is Nissan the only company to do so? The 300zx, S13, and R32/33 were all concurrently available as 4 seaters, so there's no coupe appeal reasoning. Was there a huge difference in price? I'm just confused about the huge opportunity for sales cannibalization, even though it seems to have never been an issue.
My point is these three models are all extremely similar and comparatively priced.

Honda has an S2000 and a Prelude. Prelude is not available as a 2 seater. Accords & Civics are not sold as sport models, just modded to sports, and therefore don't really strike me as being similar in make.

Toyota has a Soarer, Supra, Celica, and an MR2/S. MR2 is only a 2-seater, so it has the coupe appeal, and since the Supra and Celica are very dissimilar in price, they are hard to compare. Soarer is even more expensive.
JDM only means Japanese Domestic Market, which was my way of specifying that I was talking about older R32s/R33s/R34s, etc.
2 out of 3 of the cars I specified are still produced and are available in the US. Considering my new information, and considering these three cars are similarly priced (unless you take a GT-R and TT Fairlady, obviously) and similarly styled, my question remains the same. Can anyone give me exact MSRPs for each in comparable makes? That might clarify.
Also the fact that accords, civics, and celicas are all front wheel drive further distances them from their sportier counterparts. I guess what I need clarified is how much of a price difference there is between a base S13 and a base R33, because I have been assuming that they are very similar. If they are quite different then this would immediately answer my question, though it would still leave the debate about the skyline and the 300zx.....

Answer
As said many makers have a range of cars which they keep ie the accord , supra ,gto,Civic etc etc.

Most makers including Nissan have a range from mpv to coupe to 4x4 Nissan has a mix of models and with variations on room IE 300zx 2 seater and a 4 seater skyline range GTR 4 seater GTS 5 seater. And on the coupe side each model differs in style engines and room the 300zx was a luxury model and offered an exotic style to the exec. The sx/Silvia range was to compete against the Celica a small sporty car with class and a sporty feel. The Skyline range was only ever offered abroad in very very small numbers and from 1957 when it first came out it offered a luxury drive and again a sporty engine but later models where to be in competition with the Porsche so this more hardcore model was made needed but variations ie th non turbo and single turbo versions kept fans happy. But the hardcore GTR version would take the car to modern races.
Again prices in its day would differ between models ie turbo non turbo 3 door 5 door etc etc.
So each model also would have catered for a different taste on the market so it wouldnt have affected its sales.

World sales not every country had certain models and some countries didnt want them, yes the safety aspect did make a difference but major factors was was the car going to sell well
IE turbo models sell well nowdays but the 180sx flopped so the 240sx was made as at the time turbo's where a no no in the US,In the UK which still isnt far off now ,they stick to familier models so adding a new car wouldnt have paid .
This is a major reason why the Skyline was never sold worldwide as the demand at the time was never that great.
to promote or alter emissions etc .

prices when new in 1993

$16600
base model R33 skyline GTS

$23900
R33 Skyline GTS-T

$43800
GTR model R33 Skyline

$33,000
Turbo 300zx model

$16,000
Turbo s13

Difference of the 300ZX and the Skyline was the zx was to appeal as an exotic car like the Ferrari whilst the Skyline wanted to appeal as a family sports car which offered the thrill of speed and looks but practical also hence a Diesel model non turbo model estate model and to the turbo models and different engines sizes from a 1.8 2.0 2.5 2.6 and with single and twin can and Limited edition variations..

Why are Americans buying and driving gas guzzlers, and then complaining about the gas prices?

Happy Gues

Seriously, it seems to me that the people complaining the most, are the one's abusing the gas supply/demand the most! But maybe people don't agree with me on this? Is this just my personal bias?

This might also be a "class" issue, because I live in a lower-middle class and working class community and I see so many SUVs and big trucks driving around. I was told that closer to colleges there are more hybrids and economy cars than luxury and SUVs. But I personally don't know if this is true.

Long and well thought-out answers are valued more here. Take your time, I can't even pick an answer until tomorrow.

Answer
i love the "all we can afford is a huge gas guzzling SUV" argument! oh yes, those people who are out buying freakin' escalades are definitely too poor to buy a hybrid.

the problem here? EGOTISM. people are so obsessed with status. they work this crap job but need to feel good about themselves so they buy the biggest hunk of metal they can find. in addition, americans feel they are entitled to whatever the hell they want, damn the consequences. and then they're entitled to complain about the consequences that are their own fault anyway.

so let's look at some base prices here and you tell me what's more expensive.
american suv's-
chevy avalanche: 32k
equinox: 22k
suburban: 37k
tahoe: 34k
trailblazer: 35k
ford exploder: 27k
sport trac: 25k
expedition: 34k
freestyle: 26k
and we're not even going to count luxury brands like caddy and lincoln.

now, let's compare to hybrids.
prius: 22k
camry hybrid: 26k
civic hybrid: 21k
insight: 19k

and what's that about lifetime cost? ha! okay, you have fun replacing your alternator every other year and sticking hundreds of dollars of gas into your massive beast. meanwhile, i'll quietly drop thirty bucks into my gas tank every month or so. and change my oil every now and then. that BS about hybrids having a total cost of ownership that's soooo high is so ignorant. lifetime gas costs alone over an SUV purchase should but your TCO in half.

the first three hybrids i named are perfectly suitable for families. the civic might be a little small but the camry is the same size and the regular camry, the quintessential family car, and the prius is almost as big inside.

working class does NOT equal SUV drivers based solely on financial situation. if it were solely financial, we'd all be driving 1999 honda civics. in fact, the class issue you mention seems almost backward. if you have an suv, chances are you spent much more on it than you would have spent on a regular car.

college students are working class people. probably poorer. many state university professors make 30k a year, which is certainly NOT upper class. however, there tends to be more forward thinking at places of higher education which may play a part in choice of car purchase. we all know this current political and geological situation will not sustain SUVs, so why buy one? choice. not financial or any other circumstance.

anyone who as an SUV needs to shut up about gas prices, because they're contributing to the demand increases that dictate prices.

What a good first used car to buy for commuting college student?

luxury cars that use regular gas image

Anna

I'm 22 years old college student and i need a used car for campus when i start clinicals for nursing next semester, im currently working partime 8.25/hr mon, wed, fri and weekend. I just started so I won't be on fulltime for awhile. I'd like to get an Honda civic but what are some other lst time buyer cars. I've looked at carmax, but theres no way I could make that kind of money in a few months. I don't want something too old, its already 2013, I need this car to last me through 2016 when i graduate from school. I don't have any credit, I plan to buy the car outright and the only money I have saved is from the job I have on campus that I just started Monday. I need this car before mid-Jan of next year. Any car suggestions or ideas would be apprecitated!!! Thanks :)

Answer
I highly recommend a Honda Accord. They are not only rated as the most reliable car, but are typically the safest to buy used as well. Japanese cars in general are cheap to maintain, insure, and repair. They are also known to be very reliable. You can easily find a Honda Accord maybe 2003-2005 for about $6000 or less.

Honda Accords use Regular-grade gas and they are also cheap to insure.

Don't get anything lower than on 03. Honda Accord 2002 and lower had transmission issues due to over heating. I would not buy a Nissan as they are not very reliable in comparison to Honda and Toyota. Civics are supposedly the "greener" version of Accords, but tend to have more problems as they get older.

Visit Edmunds.com This site will tell you what problems (if any) a specific car, model, and year has. It's a really good way to avoid accidentally buying a lemon (a car that breaks down frequently).

Since you have limited funds, getting a not so old car is probably going to be impossible. After a 2005 Accord, they jump pretty marginally in price. Hondas are really reliable from my experience with them given that the previous owner(s) took care of it. I've seen Hondas go for 15+ years without breaking down.

Don't buy a luxury car. Even if it's a used cheap one, it will expensive to maintain and repair.

What kind of new car technology means - hybrid, crossover, diesel, etc?

thomasthef

There are so many different cars out there now. I don''t plan to buy one soon but I'm having curiosity about things like hybrid, electric, hydrogen - as well as smart cars, crossovers - as well as diesel, unleaded, premium gasoline. What's with all these choices? Couldn't they agree on one! Thanks!!! Cheers!

Answer
Hybrid cars are cars that run on two sources of energy.
The first Hybrid was the Honda Insight in 2001 in America. It was a gas-electric hybrid. This means it used an electric motor when driving slow and a gas engine when driving fast. It got 60mpg city and 66mpg highway. The most popular Hybrid right now is the ugliest. The Toyota Prius.

Crossover is an SUV sitting on car chassis. The Honda CR-V is an AWD, higher, bigger Honda Civic. The Toyota Rav4 is sitting on Toyota Corolla chassis. The new Toyota Venza is a taller Toyota Camry, and so on.Crossovers hae been around for at least 2 years, but they are not getting more popular because of gas mileage.

Diesel is a different type of engine. This has been around for over 100 years. It is just starting to become popular in America, but just about every car sold in Europe has a Diesel engine option. Diesel engines work different than gas engines. They are much better on gas/petrol and they are used for towing heavy things. That is why Semi trucks and Lori's have Diesel engines. They are very reliable too. But they are slow cars and Diesel costs more than gas these days.

Electric cars are cars that run on just electricity. They use thousands of laptop computer batteries that would make the car last 40-200 miles before needing a recharge. Recharging is just plugging them into the wall and waiting 10-15 hours.

Hydrogen cars are cars that are powered by Hydrogen gas. This is highly compressed water. Right now, the only Hydrogen powered car in production is the Honda FCX Clarity. It is only sold in California because California is the only place with Hydrogen filling stations. Hydrogen cars make no pollution. All that comes out of the exhaust system is water that you could drink. They are very clean cars, but expensive to make. Hydrogen cars are also known as Fuel Cell cars.

Unleaded gas is gas that most cars use. When a car says to use unleaded fuel, they mean do NOT use Diesel. If you put Diesel in a gas car, you will break your car. There are many type if unleaded fuel. Regular(80-86 octane), Midgrade(88-89), Premium(90-93), Super(95-96) and Race(100+ octane). Cars with Turbochargers, superchargers, or powerful engines require premium fuel. All luxury cars like Acura's, Lexus, Infiniti, Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercedes, and others all require premium fuel. Honda Civic Si and VW GTI and Nissan 350z and almost all sports cars require premium fuel. Higher octane basically means beter quality. Putting Premium fuel in a car that just needs regular fuel does NOT make it more reliable or get better fuel economy. All it does is add about 5HP more to cars that recommend regular fuel.

Air powered cars are cars that run on compressed air. The compressed air is what moves the cylinders in the engine to make the car move. They could travel about 200 miles before needing more air. These cars are only sold in India so far. They have been around a few years.

Smart is a company made by Mercedes Benz. They make 3 cars. The Smart Fortwo, Smart Forfour, and Smart Roadster. In America, we only have the Smart Fortwo, which actually came out in 1998 in Europe. It is an old design. It is a regular gas powered car with a small 3 cylinder engine. It only has 70HP and is now the slowest new car in America. With its lightweight and small engine, you would expect it to be great on gas, but it is NOT. It gets 41 miles per gallon at best. A Honda Civic almost gets that. And the Smart Fortwo only seats 2 people. They are very unreliable and break down a lot. They use Premium gas. They are expensive to maintain. They are very bad cars. Old technology.

I am researching development of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle and I am trying to determine if power provided by an alternator from an electric motor to the battery or wiring harness will cause the dash lights to go off as it would normally when the engine is started. I want to turn the ignition to the on position and have the dash lights go off, instead of remaining on and hearing a chime. What is the actually electronic action that terminates the lamps and chime from working when a vehicle is started?

Answer
I'm having a little trouble figuring out what you want to do.

When the ignition key is set to ON various systems perform a self test. Part of the self test is to light the idiot lights on the dash make sure they are working and not burned out.

The oil pressure light comes on because the engine is not running causing no oil pressure. Once the engine is started the oil pressure comes up and when it reaches a set point the light goes off. If the pressure is below or falls below the set point the light will come on. The alternator light comes on because the alternator is not spinning generating electricity. The air bag light comes on during the self test and goes out if the test passes, the service engine light is the same way.

As for the chime it usually sounds because the seat belt isn't fastened. I've never owned a luxury car so I don't know about any other sounds that are made.

If you just want to listen to the radio you set the key to the ACCessory position. This leaves the engine and driving systems off conserving power.

luxury cars under 20k image

Brad

I don't want to borrow money so I can only spend about 25k on a car. I do a lot with clients so I want it to be nice and impressive looking, but I also want it to get decent gas mileage. I put a lot of mileage on my truck and it gets about 14 MPH (2011 Ram). The new car needs to hold 4 adults. I know how to work on cars so I'm willing to take something with higher mileage if necessary, and it can be older, I just don't want it to look "old". 2wd is fine because I have the 4x4 truck as well I can drive if the weather gets bad or if I need to haul things, but I've had a few people tell me its not the most professional vehicle for the type of clients I work with.

I've never owned a "luxury" vehicle before.

I don't know luxury cars very well and I've tried to research them but it I can't find any good information on reliability of higher mileage luxury cars (60-80k). Is like a 2006-2010 Audi A4 (15 to 20k) ok if it has 78k-90k miles on it, or is that going to cause me trouble in a few years? are those reliable motors? an 08ish 3-5 series BMW ok?

Should I get an Audi S4 or a Mach 1 Mustang?

John F

I have been swaying between getting these two cars and they both have thier pros and cons. Audi is more luxury on the inside, and way more tunable with the TT, but is going to be very expensive to maintain in the future. Mach 1 is good old american muscle and i can get one with under 20k miles, and my brother is a ford mechanic, so cheap parts.

Answer
Depends on what you expect from the car. If I had a long commute everyday I would go with the Audi. If I didn't care about gas mileage and wanted some tire roasting fun, I would go Mach 1.

Do I still have plenty of time to get an 8-cylinder sports car and get a good deal on it?

sports cars good on gas on Its 1994 All Over Again: Aaron Hernadezs White SUV Trailed By ...
sports cars good on gas image
Q. Unfortunately, it's looking like SUVs and sports cars and other vehicles with guzzle gas are going to stop being made and no one's gonna buy them anymore. I would much rather have an 8-cylinder like a Camaro Z28 or a Firebird TransAM. Everyone else might be switching to tiny, unsafe, wimpy Hybrid cars that can't take a hit in a collison and take all day to go from 0 to 60.
I wouldn't wanna be caught dead in one of those degrading, ugly vehicles that I find to be a joke. I would much have that 300+ HP from a Firebird or a Camaro. They look more cool, are much faster, and are a little safer in case of an accident.

I hope the decreased sales will mean lower prices, not the other way around.

Answer
There will always be room for the 8cylinder car. the same motors your granddad worked on are still on the road in one version or another. To really save you some dough, look for an older (late 80's early 90's) monte carlo, or buick regal, buy a crate v8 (350s are a dime a dozen) drop it in, put some good shocks on and have ahoot. The F bodies( camaro firebird bodies) and Mustangs will always have a higher demand so think a little outside the norms.

What are other sports cars/coupes that are along the lines of a mustang?

i messed u

Maybe i can clarify better here: I would like something that looks very nice (I love the way coupes look and most sports cars are coupes so..). I love the way the 99-04 mustangs look so right now thats my leader. Alot of my friends have camaros which are cheap but i personally don't like them. But i want to know what some other options are.

Answer
if you have money, want speed, and dont care for looks, go for a honda. if you're for looks then go for a 3.8 mustang from 99-04. then mod it. itll be lighter than the 4.6's and can move pretty well. if you want the v8, itll be heavier, but it WILL move a lot more with mods, but gas will kill your wallet. the 3.8 camaro is okay, just about the same as the 3.8 mustang. the 8 cylinders, I don't follow as well, I'm a 6 cylinder man. good luck!

What is the name and site of the 100% electric car being assembled at Lotus?

sports cars electric image

John S. R

I have lost the site on a reformat. This auto (sports car) forecast for delivery 2007, 250 miles on charge, estimated running cost 1c per mile, first on CA market. Same type of batteries as cell etc. They have a site here but it appears to be WELL hidden - I wonder WHY? - and by WHOM? The above information by memory from site.

Answer
--------
Ah, you are thinking about Tesla Motors, an American electric car company, in an alliance with Lotus.
*
http://www.teslamotors.com
*
The Tesla Roadster electric sportscar does 0-60 in 4 seconds. It can hit 130mph. It gets 250 miles to the charge. And it can recharge in 3-1/2 hours. The secret is the AC drivetrain technology perfected for GM's killed EV1 electric car. And Lithium-Ion battery technology.
*
Even better battery technology is in the research pipeline.
*
The Tesla is not the only electric sportscar either.
check out the T-Zero:
*
http://www.acpropulsion.com/ACP_FAQs/FAQ_cars.htm
*
and the Venturi Fetish:
*
http://www.venturi.fr/us/fetish/fetish_spirit/fetish_spirit.php3
*
And the Wrightspeed:

http://www.wrightspeed.com/
*
And just for fun, here's the electric Hummer:
*
http://www.military.com/soldiertech/0,14632,Soldiertech_Shadow,,00.html
------

Who is excited about the Tesla Roadster?

Q. All electric sports car. 137mph. 0-60 in 4 secs. 250 miles on a full charge that takes 3 hours. That is soooo much better than going to the pump so often. I can't wait for the next ones they make under $50k.

Answer
------------
People may not realize it quite yet, but this is the beginning of a revolution in transportation. It has been in our local newspapers here in Detroit, that Tesla is coming here to hire engineering talent for their upcoming electric family sedan.
*
The Tesla is not alone, either. Look at this car:
*
http://phoenixmotorcars.com/models/fleet.html
*
The Phoenix electric pickup truck - using new, advanced Altairnano batteries (based on research from MIT) - can:

-Travel up to 250 miles per charge
-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.
-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.
-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)
*
Plus, I have been following, over the past year, news of at least two other emerging battery technologies that are as good or better than the Altairnanos above.
*
Incidentally, in response to one of the other posters, new Li-Ion battery designs are not hazardous - the Altairnano design has been tested by crushing and puncturing, with no fire or explosion resulting (which makes it safer than gasoline.)
*
Likewise, other negative speculations you may see about EV batteries are usually based on the assumption that battery technology has not evolved in the past 30 years.
*
Technology does not stand still.

Once you have insurance can you drive any car that you own?

sports cars cheap on insurance on All About Sports: How to buy the cheapest sports car insurance policy
sports cars cheap on insurance image

Ok lets say you owned like a 90 honda accord or something, and you had cheap insurance for it. since its also an economic car, you use it most of the time you drive. but if you owned two other cars, such as a big v8 4x4 or a sports car v6 would you need to have separate insurance for those? or are you able to drive anything you own since you have insurance? does it matter as long as you dont get into any accidents?

Answer
The insurance you get is for that car only. You have to get insurance for each vehicle. Also, If your friend lets you drive their car ask for proof of insurance before you drive it. You will get the ticket if you drive their car without insurance.

What one would be cheaper for insurance and do you own a sports car if so how much on insurance is it for yo?

Wingwing

I want to rent a car to drive from Seattle to Portland, OR. It takes about three hours. After stay in Portland one night, I will drive back to Seattle with three other passengers & two big suitcases.

I would like to know which kind of car should choose to have better comfort during the journey. As my parents are old and they aren't used to have long-hour ride.

What are the differences among Premium, Luxury, Minivan & SUV? I am not familiar with cars. They just seem the same to me.

By the way, are there any differences to rent the same car type from different car rental company? It seems "Budget" is much cheaper than "Alamo" or "Hertz".

Thank you very much for your attention to my question~

Answer
For the ultimate comfort for your parents, I think an SUV or mini van would be your best option. Especially if you can get one where the seats adjust back and forth so they have plenty of room. Another great car as far as comfort is the Licoln Towncar, they are very roomy and have plenty of room for luggage. I think this would provide room for the luggage and your parents. The larger cars are not going to get as good of mileage, but they are more comfortable for longer trips. The towncar is especially nice because they have large seats and they are extra "cushiony" so they are very comfortable. If you would go with something like a Chrysler van that has Stow and Go seating, your parents would have more leg room because you could put the middle section of seats down, but they would have to sit in the back seat and that isn't easy to get in. So, I think the Towncar would be your best option, roomy, comfortable and better gas mileage than an SUV or Van.

As far as companies. The prices are going to be different from one company to the next, just as you may find the exact sames size room and hotel quality but one company charges more than the other. It is just their pricing. I know there are two hotels right across the street in my hometown, the one is ten dollars more per night and they are the exact same room, basically. You need to look at the services that are offered by each company, which one is more convienent for you, does on include one that another doesn't. Are there any charges involved that you are not aware of, etc. You just need to do a side-by-side comparison to determine which one is best for you. Budget does tend to be less. Usually the main difference is the extra services they include, how much benefit they offer you, different car companies, etc. Also, Hertz claims to be better to deal with as far as friendliness and such, but in my experience they have all been about the same, not too friendly, so that really doesn't matter either. As long as the company is offering what you want, you should be good to go.

You can also find deals for most companies. It may be a free-upgrade to a different car or something similar. But sometimes they have restrictions and it must be rented for 5 days or something. Check around and they will often list them on their site. You may even want to call the companies, sometimes they offer discounts that you wouldn't think about.

Sorry about all the typing, I didn't mean for it to be this long :-)

Hope this helps

Does the math make sense for young people?

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/health-care-laws-success-rests-040100677.html

"For Mr. Meiffren, the cheapest available insurance plan he could buy with the subsidies would cost him $116 a month, with a $6,350 annual deductible. His subsidy would total $14 a month, based on his $25,000 annual income.

"I'm healthy, so it's not in the budget," Mr. Meiffren said after the lunch rush. He lost a full-time jobâand his insuranceâlast fall. He said he moved to Portland from Los Angeles in March, looking for "a better vibe" and a lower cost of living.

Nationwide, there are 11.6 million people ages 18 to 34 who are uninsured, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. The federal government's challenge this fall will be getting them to buy health-care coverage, which many consider a luxury they can do without. Hospitals already must treat all emergencies, and uninsured patients are responsible for the bills."

Answer
It doesn't make sense for anybody who knows how to do math.

The problem is that "medical" insurance became "health" insurance, and we expect it to things that no other type of insurance does.

If car insurance was structured so that people never had to pay more than a $10 copay for gas, and a repair never cost more than $20 out of pocket, they'd love it. But they'd bitch about their car insurance being $500 a month at a minimum.

The whole idea behind insurance to to keep you from being wiped out of something happens--not to see how little money you can possibly pay out of pocket for day to day expenses.

For a number of years, I've had an HSA plan where the deductible was quite high, but I could put money away to cover all or part of that. But if I understand the ACA, at 48 I'm "too old" for that kind of a plan (even though I'm in good health, and my yearly medical bills right now run about $100), so I'll have to go with something more expensive to "protect" me. If I'm forced to do it, you can be damned sure I'm going to get my money's worth out of the health care system.

A lot of people don't realize that the whole idea of your employer providing health insurance only dates back the WW2. Because of wage freezes, companies couldn't pay more salary to workers they really wanted to keep, so they began offering perks--like medical insurance

How to store fur coats at home?

luxury cars that hold value on home car news Volkswagen news Volkswagen Touareg news Volkswagen ...
luxury cars that hold value image

Just curio

First off, don't make comments about how cruel fur is because I agree, but these have been in my family for many decades. What is the best way to store them at home so they hold up?

Answer
1. Insure your fur on your homeowner's policy for its replacement value, so you won't be heartbroken in case of theft. Furriers usually offer nominal insurance coverage while your coat is in storage and sometimes make further coverage available for a small fee.

2. Give it a good home. Be sure you put it in a coat closet that is not exposed to light (which will fade your fur) or heat. Check for hot water or steam pipes in the wall. Then be sure it has room to breathe and isn't being crushed by other garments.

3. Hang your fur on a broad-shouldered or padded hanger with a long neck. No wire hangers. Ideally, ask your furrier for a professional hanger.

4. Don't cover it in a garment bag. Your fur prefers air circulation, to prevent its leather side from drying. If you absolutely must keep it in a bag for a short period of time, be sure it is in a loosely woven cloth bag.

5. Accessorize wisely. Don't pin jewellery on your fur, and avoid sharp necklaces or bracelets that could snag your fur. Don't use your shoulder bag on a consistent basis, since it will wear the hairs off and give your coat a bald spot. Consider wearing a scarf around your neck to protect the collar, which can be quickly matted.

6. Avoid insecticides, mothproofing and other chemicals around on your fur, including perfume or hairspray directly on your fur. Perfume contains alcohol, which can dry your pelts. Once a perfume gets into your fur -- including cedar from a cedar chest -- it could be there to stay. Oils in the leather of your fur can become rancid and smell.

7. If your fur gets wet, don't panic. Most furs handle snow and a light rain with ease. Shake it out and hang it to dry in a well-ventilated room, at home or office. Resist the temptation to speed the drying process by using a hair dryer or hanging it near a heat source. Fur does not like heat. After it dries, shake it again. Do not comb or brush it. If its hairs are a little bristly, simply smooth them with your hand. If your fur has been soaked through, however, take it immediately to your fur retailer for proper treatment.

8. Your fur coat and your car, best friends? Probably not. Furs don't do well with friction or crushing, both of which they experience in your car. Use common sense when sliding into the seat, so you're not too hard on your fur. To avoid a telltale flattened bottom print on your fur, don't sit on it if possible, or at least not on the same spot consistently. Shake out any spots like that on your fur when you exit your vehicle. On long drives, take off your fur and wear it over you like a blanket, if you need to keep warm.

9. Keep your fur in mind when you're on the move. Double-check your insurance policy to make sure you're covered in case of loss at a restaurant or while travelling. At a restaurant, if the cloak room looks suspicious or overcrowded, don't check your coat. Don't hang it on a hook or coat tree. Fold it neatly on a chair at your table and cover with a napkin.
On a plane, the closet for hanging luggage is not the best place for your fur. When you get to your destination, you might find your fur too crushed to wear. Instead, leave it lightly on your lap for a super-luxury, cosy blanket or fold it loosely, lining out, and place it at the top of an overhead bin very near you. But find a bin that is already nearly full, and put your coat on top of other luggage. Don't tempt anyone to place luggage on top of your coat.

10. Always send your coat on summer vacation. Nothing shortens the longevity of your fur like keeping it in your closet during a long, hot summer. Send it to your furrier for professional storage. This is important every year, for a fur, a shearling, a fur-trimmed garment and even a fur hat or scarf. Unless you don't intend to wear your fur for very long, take it in for cold storage. It's not very expensive, and this is the single best thing you can do to care for your fur. It definitely is necessary.

11. Have your fur cleaned regularly by a fur specialist, not a dry cleaner. Furs must be cleaned by a special process. Your fur should be cleaned every year, unless it hasn't been worn hardly at all. In that case, have it cleaned at least every other year. Besides just cleaning, this conditions your fur, makes it look better and is good for your fur. When you take your fur in for cleaning, this is also the time when your furrier gives it a check-up for any necessary repairs. Always have repairs done immediately, before little problems turn into big headaches.

What kind of car should I get big enough for 5 people?

Lisa E.

I am married, and have a 3 year old daughter, a 9 year old step-son, and am 5 months pregnant with another baby. I only hve a Ford Focus now, and I am going to have to get something bigger when the baby comes because it is too small to fit 2 car seats and a 10 year old in the back seat. I ABSOLUTELY do not want a truck, van, or SUV. Good gas milege is critical. I have to drive my own vehicle for work, and sometimes it can be about 100 miles per day. What is a good car big enough for my husband, me, and 3 kids that won't cost alot to purchase???

Answer
Unlike what was just said above, you should look into other makes. Mercury is the #2 most reliable car maker in the world as rated by JD Powers. Just behind Lexus, and above all the rest.

They make a GREAT full size car called the Montego. I call it a full size car in a midsize body. You won't feel like you're driving a big car, but it is going to have TONS more room than your Focus and other comparable vehicles. PLUS, the trunk is HUGE, the LARGEST in its class, by far! This will be important with a baby stroller and various kids gear.

These cars come standard with High Intensity Discharge headlamps. They are the blueish tinted lights you see coming at you on high end luxury cars. They make a huge difference in lighting, adding a lot of safety. They also come standard with LED taillamps. Much greater visibility from the rear for greater safety.

And when you talk room, you'll be AMAZED at the room in the rear seat. You'll feel like you can't even touch the seat in front of you with your feet! Adults and kids will have more than enough room.

Gas mileage; 29MPG. And, unlike most other manufacturer's Ford/Lincoln/Mercury usually are conservative on their mpg estimates. With it's six speed transmission, it will get every bit of 29mpg on the highway!

Safety; this car was voted the safest in it's class by the International Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), in 2006. That is critical when hauling family around.

Dependability; as mentioned, Mercury is #2, ahead of Toyota and Honda and all others besides Lexus. And the Montego is powered by the Duratec 3.0L V-6. This is a proven motor that has been in the line for years. Very reliable!

Don't make the mistake of believing the myth that only imports make good vehicles. You need to look at this car, or its Ford counterpart, the Five Hundred. The Five Hundred won't have the HID headlights or LED taillamps, but they'll have some nice features to offer. If you buy pre-owned or factory program vehicles, go for the Mercury. It won't cost you much more if any than the Five Hundred, and it will hold more of its resale value. If you're a new car buyer on a tight budget, You can get a more basic Five Hundred with less equipment that might save you a few bucks. If you want the nice equipment, leather, moonroof, etc. then go with the Mercury again. When you load these two units up, the price is not that big of a difference.

FYI, the Five Hundred will be changing its name to the Taurus. The Montego will go to the Sable. Don't ask me why.

Also, you can pick up a program 2005 Five Hundred SE for around $15,000-16000 retail, and Montego Luxury for about the same money, maybe a little more. Both should have factory warranty.

I own an Audi A6 and a Volvo, but what about the rest? I don't want to buy one that doesn't have good resale value or that has lots of problems right out of the gate.

Answer
Lexus, Infiniti, Acura - Not even worth the time it took to type their names. Think of their counter parts;

Lexus is Toyota - Infiniti is Nissan - Acura is Honda

Now we move onto BMW and Mercedes-Benz

BMW is Bentley - Mercedes-Benz is Maybach

There is a huge difference between a Bentley and a Honda!

BMW is the best in class, It holds it's value better than any other car on the market.

I have owned a BMW since 2003 and it has never had a problem with the exception of a speaker that likes to crackle. I own a Mercedes-Benz ML500 SUV and it is a beautiful car, but has had it's share of minor problems. I own a Volkswagen Passat, The Audi's counterpart and I have had a few problems with battery related issues.

My Family owns several Mercedes-Benz, a BMW, 2 Audi's and a Volkswagen Touareg. The cars that have seen the repair shop the most are those by Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

However, despite our combined problems, I have ordered an E Class Mercedes, 2008.

Mercedes-Benz was recently acquired by General Motors, Hence their maintinence issues. But the way that they drive, keeps me coming back for more.

Those of Asian descent may have the best repair records, but nothing looks or performs like a German car. German cars also have a better resale value and a higher price tag because they use higher quality materials, better engineering and have a reputable name behind them.

If you want a worry free car, your best bet is a BMW of any series.

What is the government of Asturias doing to develop tourism in Asturias?

Answer
Well, yes, Asturias is one of the greenest points in Spain (together with Galicia), but not only green hills and wood will expect you there:
Asturias is clean, well kempt and very friendly fellows.
Oviedo is a typical city in Northern Spain, where visitors can enjoy Spanish traditions as well as typical food and drinks (Cidra = cider).
Gijon is the biggest and very nice city with a beautiful medieval city centre, many shops and also situated next to the Cantabrian Sea, forms the Bay of Gijón or San Lorenzo Bay, where during summer time people come from all over Spain to relax on the beach (as temperatures donât go as high as in Costa Brava or Andalusia).
The coast of Asturias, 345 km. long, presents a splendid and varied collection of beaches, coves and cliffs, like Estaño Beach, La Ãora Beach, Poniente / Natahoyo Beach, Peñarrubia Beach and many more.
There are also nudist beaches there.
There are also well known festivals in many locations in Asturias during the whole year, as the Jazz festival in Gijon, the well known Black Week (Film Festival), several gastronomy exhibitions, local festivals, etc.
Well, and of course the excellent food, as the region is a natural provider of fish, sea-food, meat, vegetables, fruit and cheese, all of excellent quality, fantastic hand made cheeses and of course, the cider and the excellent white wines.
Sports and active tourism is very popular in Asturias as well, you will find such a big offer: Golf, fishing, rock climbing, trekking, walking routs, horse riding, canoeing... itâs because Asturias is a natural paradise,
Guests will find many modern and luxurious hotels in the cities and on the beaches and as well high quality rural allocations in the countryside, such as country houses and country apartments, as well as the so-called hotels of the Paradores chain, which are excellent rural accommodations.
Who comes to visit Asturias?
Well, people who have a great taste for fantastic nature and prefer active holidays to just beach & hotel resorts holidays, people who want to try something new and enjoy great authentic Spanish dishes and wines. People who want to visit real Spanish medieval cities and culture.
Independent people who rent a car and go around on their own as well as these who prefer a classic coach tour come to Asturias.
Asturias offers something for everybody and its beauty usually astonishes people.
By the way, itâs not true, that itâs always wet and raining!
I would recommend this web site: www.infoasturias.com
I hope you will visit Asturias soon!! Enjoy it!!!

Americans, do you think soccer is boring because of the announcer?

coffeeagen

Because I was watching it in Fox and GolTV and the announcer sucks. I love soccer and that announcer made me hate the sport. lol

But I watch it in Spanish and the guy puts heart into it and you really get into the game.

So I'm just wondering.

Answer
the Announcers don't help really and I have a couple announcers that I want to see get fired, mainly every american and that Nigerian guy who commentated on the South Africa opener. For me its because they at many times over the world cup were wrong and very wrong on a lot of things throughout the tournament when talking about what is going on even when looking at replays that are 100 percent contradicting what they are saying. I was happy to see that Tommy Smyth never get time on the TV because I can't stand his accent. Give me Derek Rae any day of the week and I am a happy man.

There are other reasons people think it is boring. For the most part we are new to the sport and if you are new to the sport it can be rather hard to pick up when a goal is about to be scored. In baseball its rather obvious you can hear the bat and tell if it has a chance or you can see that the runners going around, in basketball with the shot clock there is shooting going on a lot, football they are pushing up the field and everyone can tune in when a team reaches the red zone.

With football there is no way you can do that flip the channels between games watching the team in the red zones, goals come like that and even the announcers are surprised to see them go in.

When you watch enough games you can see commonalities like that Spain attack that got them a goal was a good one or that the USA goal against Algeria was also a great counter attack, and there are certain things that you can pick up on that let you know when a goal is likely to happen or not. Most Americans see a bunch of people running up and down, the games we watch involve a lot of strategies and decisions made my the coach/manager. Running the pick and role this time up the court, running a certain pass play, or having the hitting coach tell you to hit a pop fly deep to give players a chance to tag and advance a base. There are breaks where we can talk about what we would call in this situation. There are none of that in soccer always moving always flowing, and during free kicks is the one point of soccer that I think Americans like. They can talk about I'd go for goal from there, or I'd lay it off and cross it, or I'd try a trick play we tried on the practice field.

Outside of free kicks the rest of the game seems rather foreign to us and the rest of the things we call sports, Even in race car driving we can talk about if we would have changed 2 tires or all 4 at that pit stop.

I'm planning a Vegas trip for June and I am lost in a sea of all very fabulous-sounding hotels!

In your opinion, what is the best hotel to stay at in Vegas, and why?

Here are the top things I'm looking for:
- On the strip! I like to be right in the action
- Easy access to shopping areas (without a car)
- Good deal (nothing seedy, but I'm not going for 5 star luxury here - a bargain would be nice!)

Any other Vegas tips, suggestions, advice? Thanks!

NO THEME PARKS!!! So Disney and places like that are out of the question.
I have already explored Las Vegas. Which includes Grand Canyon and other attractions in that area.
I am looking for something that we may not have thought of or overlooked.

Answer
Visit the entire California. Go to San Diego and check out the beaches an shopping and nightlife. Same with los Angeles. There's Beverly hills and the walk of fame and nice stores. Try counting all the luxury cars
you can find. Then you can travel up to San Francisco to check out the golden gate bridge and stuff and downtown. If you drop your wallet though make sure to kick it to your hotel. Whenever we go to sf we visit the worlds most crooked street.

I am looking for a reputable site that sells nice sports cars like Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, nice BMW's, etc. I don't car where the auctions are located I just want to find more about prices and conditions. Any sites that you can recommend would be appreciated.

Answer
The first answer is spam.

There are indeed auctions for exotic vehicles, but you're not going to go out and find a bargain... if that is your motive. Young kids come on here all the time and ask if they can find some magic auction where they sell exotics for $10,000. Doesn't happen.

Usually, these cars are paid for with cash. Most folks that own them do not finance them, so they're hardly ever repo'd in the literal sense, they are usually taken when a lender or court seizes assets. If the car is auctioned off to pay for whatever debt is owed, they usually don't go for bargain-basement prices. And, the folks that purchase these cars in this manner know what they're doing. These folks then turn around and sell these vehicles at market prices.

So, sorry... sites like you want do not exist.

If you're serious, find yourself an auto broker that attends these auctions, tell them what you want and your reserve price... they'll try like heck to locate one or get one at auction. But if you walk in there and tell them you want a new Lambo for $50K, they'll laugh at you and wish you a good day.

Hopefully (and based by your other questions, you haven't done this) you've researched everything involved with owning an exotic. Maintenance costs on exotics are extremely expensive. Insurance is outrageous (and you don't call Geico for that). If you enjoy spending $350 on an oil change, have at it. Need new brakes? Cough up $4000.

I will give you credit, though... unlike the kids who come on here asking this same question over and over, at least you spelled "repossessed" correctly.

What would some good suggestions for owning your first sports car?

Vidal

I'm thinking about buying my first sports car since I want to drive something a bit more flashy and more personal than my SUV that I've had for a pretty long time now. Are there any suggestions on what would be a good first sports car? As obviously stated before, I've own a vehicle. I just had my SUV since I lived in Massachusetts and now that I live in South Carolina, I want something a bit more edgey to drive in the summer when I head to other states and beaches. Thank for the suggestions and serious inquiries only!

Answer
There is a large range of sports cars available to you. I'll mostly deal with new cars because used car markets vary from place to place and its quite difficult to tell what is good and what isn't.
on the entry level range you have cars in the 27-35k price range which include Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, Hyundai Genesis 2.0T, Chevrolet Camaro V6, Ford Mustang V6, Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The Japanese cars (scion/subaru, mazda) don't have much horsepower but have a very low weight and balance that provides great handling.
The American cars have great horsepower but their heavier weights and somewhat aged suspension technology on the mustang mean that they wont be as good on a racetrack but they can be great fun on the road and empty parking lots.
The Hyundai I've found to be a nice split in between the 2 classes with a bit of lean towards the Japanese style preferring low weight and balance rather than brute power.

In the middle of the range you have cars like an upgraded engine Mustang, Camaro, Genesis, Nissan 370Z, Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Cayman, Porsche Boxter, Audi TT, BMW Z4.

On the high end you have Porsche 911s, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 4.2L V8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper, Jaguar XKR-S, BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi RS5, Lotus Evora.

on the supercar range (though I doubt you are interested) there is the Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mclaren MP4-12C, Mercedes SLS AMG, Aston Martin Vanquish, Lotus Exige S

Above entry level and mid ranges, cars focus more on balance than specs like power or weight as a priority. for example, look at Lotus Exige which uses its low weight to make the most of it's non impressive small and not very powerful engine to accelerate as fast as a much larger engined Audi R8.

Each car in any range has it's unique features and you should examine your lifestyle and what you want from your car to make a choice. If you like to show off or be flashy think about a convertible option.
If you like to just have fun like drag racing or doing donuts in an empty parking lot look for a car that values horsepower over weight. Avoid cars with all wheel drive as they require dangerous speeds to slide around and have fun in.
If you like sporty handling look for a car with a low weight and even weight distribution between the front and rear of the car with a sport tuned suspension. cars with all wheel drive have very good drive balances with little understeer and oversteer for a very good racetrack experience.
Remember that the higher level of sportiness the more uncomfortable the car will be as those cars have extra stiff suspensions to keep the car flat while cornering.
It's always a good idea to test drive every car in the price range you are looking at. Be sure to explore all aspects of a car before making your choice, it would be a shame if you have to get rid of your car because of something you didn't think about when buying.

generally, what brand is better? i hear alot of people say ford stands for found on road dead, but also i hear people say ford is a little bit better, so what do you all think

Answer
I think Ford is a lot better in a few areas. For one, they have much more stylish cars with precise and sharp lines. Compare any of their cars to one in the same segment, and theirs is better looking. The Focus sedan and Fiesta sedan are a little unfortunate-looking, but the hatchbacks versions look much better. Look at the new Chevy Spark supermini. It just has sharp headlights, but super weird proportions and pushed-in taillights. Somehow it seems Chevy doesn't know how to style the tail end of a car. Example: Spark, Sonic, Cobalt, Equinox, Traverse, Volt, Malibu, etc. Recently, Fords have been making more fuel-efficient cars with their EcoBoost technology to have a smaller engine but more horsepower like in their SHO Taurus V6 and EcoBoost 4-cylinder. Their hatches are said to drive as well as German cars since they were developed for Europe, and noticeably most of their cars handle particularly well. I don't know a lot about reliability, but I have heard Ford is improving and might have a slight edge over Chevy. One thing Chevy has that Ford doesn't is a true sports car: the Corvette. Ford did make the GT in 2005-2006, but that was limited production and an expensive supercar, unlike the around $50,000 'Vette. I know people prefer the Camaro for it's styling, but the Mustang is lighter, less expensive, has a better interior, and is said to have better driving dynamics. ZL1? Nothin' special...Just a huge 6.2 V8 with a supercharger...it's been said that a real great tuner can get enough power from an engine without "cheating" by using turbos. Inefficient, gargantuan engines are inefficient and gargantuan. So, as you can probably tell, I prefer Ford. How about you?

What supercar should I buy?

Super Hams

Okay so I thought I should get some outside opinion about this.
I am going to buy a nice car.
Now my price range is upto a 200,000 dollar ceiling.
The car will be used.
I am leaning towards a Mercedes SLS right now for 160,000.
I also like the mclaren but it's a little over my budget and there are no used ones in my area. (toronto)
Anyways just want opinions on different sports cars in that range.
This will also be a day to day car so I have to be able to live with it.
Thanks

Check out a Dupont Registry, its a mag that advertises used super cars. I too love the Mclaren. Carrera Gt? Porsche Gt2? TVR Cerebra speed 6? Austin Martin. Noble? Top Gear did an article on super cars and featured the noble vs. A newer competitor and liked the Nobel better. The Zonda is a beauty.. designed to be as sexy as it is fast.200,000 to spend you should have no problem. Don't forget aftermarket guys like Salleen, they make a mean Mustang or the Salleen S7. The new Dodge Viper is off the hook. RUF remakes porches into monsters. You could buy something sweet and supe it up, like an N.S.X. I once knew a guy with an N.S.X. and a ferrari and he preferred the N.S.X. Don't buy anything unless you have to have it. If you could picture your life without it.. don't. Ford Gt. Veyron, nah, too spendy. Dodge Vipers go for 90,000 new and you could sweeten it up a lot with a hundred grand. Personalization is cooler to me than meh, that's the car they made and I bought.. you could too if you had 200,000. Lol. Custom paint, rims, sound system.. not to mention making it roar under the hood and smoke the competition.. the SLS is great but.. well its a Mercedes. Like a Grandpa sports car. It looks like a Mercedes. Get a car with some balls. Plenty of Italian cars that are fast and works of art for the same price. Austin Martins are way classy if that's your thing and not as common. Mazeratis have made a comeback and they're well within your range. Lotus makes a lot of cars that handle nicely and get up and go. I don't know how much the Lambo Aventador is going for but its sweet.. get something that fits you.
