I have lost the site on a reformat. This auto (sports car) forecast for delivery 2007, 250 miles on charge, estimated running cost 1c per mile, first on CA market. Same type of batteries as cell etc. They have a site here but it appears to be WELL hidden - I wonder WHY? - and by WHOM? The above information by memory from site.

Ah, you are thinking about Tesla Motors, an American electric car company, in an alliance with Lotus.

The Tesla Roadster electric sportscar does 0-60 in 4 seconds. It can hit 130mph. It gets 250 miles to the charge. And it can recharge in 3-1/2 hours. The secret is the AC drivetrain technology perfected for GM's killed EV1 electric car. And Lithium-Ion battery technology.
*
Even better battery technology is in the research pipeline.
*
The Tesla is not the only electric sportscar either.
check out the T-Zero:

and the Venturi Fetish:

And the Wrightspeed:

And just for fun, here's the electric Hummer:

Who is excited about the Tesla Roadster?

Q. All electric sports car. 137mph. 0-60 in 4 secs. 250 miles on a full charge that takes 3 hours. That is soooo much better than going to the pump so often. I can't wait for the next ones they make under $50k.

People may not realize it quite yet, but this is the beginning of a revolution in transportation. It has been in our local newspapers here in Detroit, that Tesla is coming here to hire engineering talent for their upcoming electric family sedan.
*
The Tesla is not alone, either. Look at this car:

*
The Phoenix electric pickup truck - using new, advanced Altairnano batteries (based on research from MIT) - can:

-Travel up to 250 miles per charge
-Carry 5 passengers plus cargo at 95mph.
-Charges batteries in as little as TEN MINUTES.
-Has batteries that last 250,000 miles (never need replacement.)
*
Plus, I have been following, over the past year, news of at least two other emerging battery technologies that are as good or better than the Altairnanos above.
*
Incidentally, in response to one of the other posters, new Li-Ion battery designs are not hazardous - the Altairnano design has been tested by crushing and puncturing, with no fire or explosion resulting (which makes it safer than gasoline.)
*
Likewise, other negative speculations you may see about EV batteries are usually based on the assumption that battery technology has not evolved in the past 30 years.
*
Technology does not stand still.
