What is a good looking sports car with good mileage?

sports cars types on Bugatti-Sports-Car-Type-57-Evoluzione-Concept-Car-3.jpg
sports cars types image

Nazar Stel

I am 16 and I am looking to find a car that is fuel efficient, looks nice (sports car sudan), and is affordable. I have looked at a Mazda rx8 but it seems with the rotory engine that would give me more problems than I would like. I have also looked at the ford mustang as well as other types of sports cars but I need better gas mileage.

P.S. Im not a big fan hatchbacks or convertibles. If i had to choose between the two I would choose the convertible though.

Answer
I don't have a lot of knowledge about other cars other than the ones I have owned.

I had a 2006 Mustang GT. It had the tested and true 4.6L V8.

I put over 120k miles on that car with no issues. Reliable and fun. It got 23-24 on the hwy, and about 17 in the city. The new 5.0 mustang 2011-2012 gets even better gas mileage and more power!

I would imagine that the new Camaro is just as solid with its dependable motor. But I am pretty sure its gas mileage is not as good.

What are some old, cheap, sports cars available?

skjbf.f

I'm looking for a first car but I dont want a normal car or truck or anything typical. i was thinking about a vw 70's beetle, then i saw the karmann ghia. But although reviews are good for the karmann, they have some disadvantages. I still want it though. So are there any sports car types that i can get fairly cheap? $4 or $5 thousand. Or should i go with the Karmann?
Thanks :]

Answer
70's sports cars:
Triumph Spitfire,TR6, TR7
MG Midget, MGB
Fiat 850, 124 (cheap, and unreliable)
Datsun 240z (not sure on the numbers of the z's)
Mazda RX2 RX3 (hard to find replacement engine parts)
Toyota Celica
Austin Sprite
There were others, these are the low end models. Some nice street worthy ones can be found in this price range. They are referred to as "thirty footers" meaning they look good at a distance but are not show quality. All require more then average maintenance, some are easy to find parts for and others almost impossible to find parts for. Some had a sedan counter part that handles very well, such as the 510 Datsun.

I wish to know about Monaco; is it worth paying a visit?

luxury cars zurich on research jobs that require travel
luxury cars zurich image

Simon

Answer
Easiest way to get to Monaco is throught the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport. It is then a 60-100 Euro Taxi Ride to Monaco.

Monaco is lots of fun. Besides the Famous Place du Casino (with the Casino, Opera House, Cafe de Paris and Hotel de Paris), there are many other things to check out:

- The Rocher (Old village) holds the citadel, the Palace, the Cathedral, the Courthouse, the Minsetry, Cuity hall and the Musee Oxcenographique.
- Musee Oceanographique (founded by Cousteau, has many fish aqauriums), just by the Palace.
- Several small museums featuring the Prince's Personal Auto Collection, Stamps, Coins, Princess Grace's Personal Barby Collection.
- Many souvenir stores, luxury stores (Gucci, YSL, Chanel), popular brands (Zara, Benetton)
- The Stade Louis II is the stadium, it host the As Monaco Football Team and other events.
- Formula 1 Racing end of may of each year: the craziest time of the year, but very difficult to get hotel rooms..
- ATP Masters Series Tournament every year in March (The main Clay event before the French Open)
- Many Italian restaurants and Local Monegasque restaurants (good food, and very affordable - 20-30 Euros for a 3-course meal)
-

Around Monaco (all along the coast, within 90 minute drive):
- Menton: World capital of Lemon
- Nice: Nice city which is undergoing a revival (new museums, new tramway system, old district...)
- Cannes: Famous for the Cannes Film Festival. Architecture very typical of the 1960-70s.
- Juans-les-Pins and Antibes: Beaches, Nightclubs, Youngster party scene
- Grasse: Capital of Perfumes
- Eze, Baulieu, St Jean Cap Ferrat, Roquebrune Cap Martin: All within 10-15 Minutes driving and worth seeing - Old Castles, Citadels, Casinos, Restaurants, Landscapes
- St Tropez: Famous or Show Offs and Celebrities
- Ventimiglia (Italy): Famous for fakes market
- San Remo (Italy) Cute Italian City.

If travelling to Monaco, definitely rent a car. Taxis are expensive, but parking is not. A full day of parking in public parking lots is about 15-20 Euros, but if you stay less, you only pay for the time: (1st Hour is Free, 2nd Hours is 1-2 Euros... so very cheap compared to US Cities).

From the US, you can fly to Nice directly from NY-JFK (Delta) or through Paris (Air France), Zurich (Swiss), Frankfort/Munich(Lufthansa), London (British and BMI), Madrid/Barcelona (Iberia), Roma/Milan(Alitalia).

Visiting monaco won't require more than 3-4 days. Maybe adding 2-4 additional days to visit the surrounding cities. Just keep in mind, Monaco does not have any nice beaches, and neither do the surroundings. This area isvery mountanous, so the nicest sand beaches are in St Tropez (and they're not that great anyway).

There is a lot more to say, but I'm not sure what you're intersted in..

exchange student in Switzerland help please...?

bliss

I want to go to Switzerland next year as an exchange student. I know a little bit German. Do people speak English well there? And how much money will i need for a month?
switzerland is a really rich country, can you give examples of the food and clothing prices there?

Answer
Yes, most people speak very good English in Switzerland, especially University students, but your life will be easier if you also know some German - and people will appreciate it if you put some effort into learning their language :)

University students would normally need up to 1800 frs per month to live well, but it depends on the place in live in. Geneva is very expensive, so is Zurich, whereas smaller cities like Bern are less expensive.

You can expect to pay as much as 900 frs per month in rent (you can halve that if you're living with someone else), another 400 frs per month in insurance (it's compulsory, your university counsellor will advise you about this). University cafeterias are normally very cheap - you can have a good lunch for maybe 5 or 7 frs, but in restaurants you will normally spend 20 or 30 frs. The best thing to do, as everywhere, is cook. By shopping at farmers' markets and supermarkets, you will need about 150-200 frs per month, unless you're planning to live on white rice. :)

Clothes...it really varies, obviosuly, between luxury shops and normal shops. Most supermarkets also sell good quality clothes - think trousers for 30 frs and shirts for 20 frs and up. You will need good, comfy shoes and a warm coat!

You should also factor in buses and tram - it's almost impossible to live in the big cities without a travel card. Monthly, they cost around 90 frs, but it's a good investment. In some cities you can move around on a bike if you're good with it (Zurich has so many trams and stuff, I wouldn't like to cycle there), but others are hilly, and cycling in the winter is a miserable experience anyway. And forget about cars - we have narrow streets and closed city centres, so parking is impossible and very expensive. If you're planning to move around a lot and you have some cash, you can buy a 'general pass' valid on every transportation - very handy, but it costs about 3000 frs...

If you're short on cash, remember that Switzerland is expensive but salaries are high - half-time as a supermarket cashier will earn you 1500 frs per month, so if you need the cash, go for it.

Welcome and have a good time!

Which luxury car makers have the best user friendly factory navigation systems for model years 07-08?

luxury cars 2008 image

chanoey91

I'm looking into buying a luxury car from the 2007 to 2008 model year, I want one with built in factory navigation but with all the choices out there it's hard to decide. Between these makes and models, Acura MDX, Audi Q7, Cadillac SRX, Lexus RX 350, Mercedes benz M Class and Infiniti FX Class which of them have the most user friendly navigation systems. Thanks in advance.

Answer
This is obviously personal preference, but I can speak to the SRX, Q7, FX, and M. Of these only the M still allowed in motion destination entry, BUT the database is rather restrictive. The Q7 had almost Garmin like flexibility, but the '08 would not allow inmotion destination entry. The SRX looked great but was about useless for me. OnStar worked a lot better. The FX felt like a toy but worked well. Note that ALL of these are DVD based and only the FX had a traffic module (I think that was an '09).

Can you tell me something about this car?

Q. I'm planning to purchase a new 2008 Mercedes CL600. I like it because it looks nice and sleek but I have no idea about cars. Is this car worth the price? Can you tell me about it? Money isn't an option here so if you have another nice luxury car recommendation, please do so.

Answer
Absolutely not!!!! That car is rediculously expensive. It's just the coupe of the flagship sedan. For that price you can get something extremely flashy and sexy like an Aston Martin vantage or even a bentley contiental GT! If price isn't an issue at all I would suggest the Bentley since it a similar to the Cl except much more desireable! Rolls Royce came out with a nice looking Coupe convertible. The Cl is a nice car for sure but it's just not that special. There are many other more desireable cars in the 100 thousand dollar plus range.
my picks
-Any Aston Martin
-Audi R8
-bentley continental (top pick since it is a similar to what you are looking at)
-Mercedes SLR Mclaren
-Porsche 911 Turbo

How do I become an engineer for performance cars?

Fish addic

I'm a high school senior and I intend on getting a mechanical engineering degree in college. I plan on going to Indiana my freshman year in college (hopefully Purdue). What steps do I need to take so I can design (mechanically and visually) for example Corvettes, mustangs, camaros,911, m3,C63 ,GTR or any sport or performance variant car. I'm open to any automaker I just want to bring my knowledge of cars to college and build my skills to the fullest so I can make the fastest and best performing cars in the world! I will do anything it takes, even if it means transferring colleges, changing degrees, or even moving across the world.

Answer
You have posted the same question at least 3 times! Don't be goofy - post once.

Mechanical Engineering would probably be a good choice, but find out whether Purdue offers courses/majors in industrial design. If so, be sure to take a few.

There are a few midwestern universities that offer specific degrees in automotive engineering:

Michigan State U
U of Michigan
Kettering U (Flint MI)
Michigan Technological University (Houghton MI)
IUPUI (Indiana U/Purdue U - Indianapolis)

There are several other good ones, too.

You can go to www.edmunds.com for more information on colleges offering automotive engineering programs.

What are some basic information i should know before buying a used car?

Q. I'm interested in buying my first car. Unfortunately I know little to nothing about cars. I do know that when buying a used car that it should have good milage. That's all i know. If you could tell me what type of cars would be good for a new owner or some helpful hints in what to look for so I don't show how obvious it is that I know nothing to the seller I would really apperciate it.

Answer
I may ramble so stay with me.

The best way to know if someone is a rube is if they don't know or incorrectly use the "lingo".
This is as true of cars as almost anything.

The second best indicator is they seem uncertain what they want.
The choices they make are wildly different. Sports car,the SUV,then family sedan, you get the idea.

Finally the "deer in the headlights" glazed look that's says "take my money, just don't hurt me".

Fortunately, the solution to all three is the same, it's free, anybody can do it and it can be loads of fun.

Still with me ? Good.
Im going to give you some tips and you are going to go out on a nice day have lunch out and go car shopping.

Not buying, shopping.

Get educated.
What kind of car do you need ? What will you be using it for most of the time ? How many people will it have to serve ? How many different needs ?

2.The lingo.
Car types
A Sedan has 4 doors and a trunk.
A Coupe has 2 doors and a trunk.
A Hatchback has 2 doors and the whole back opens.
A SUV is a truck with an enclosed body, unlike a pick up which has an open box in the back.

Engines and transmissions.
Most engines are either 4,6 or 8 cylinder. 4 is the most economical, 8 the most powerful, 6 is a good compromise for must sedans and coupes.
Transmissions are either automatic or manual. Automatic is simpler to operate and very common but costly to repair.

What to look for.
The mileage you describe is how far the car has traveled. 12K miles a year is average.
Typically a car will last well past 100k miles before expensive repairs will be needed.
Everything should work. Every switch and lever should function.
Under the hood, have someone "check the fluids". Oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, typically they should appear opaque and not have a burnt smell and be full to the limit.
The car should track straight, not pull to either side on a flat road either under braking or
just going foward.
The tires should match for brand and size (brand should be at least 3 of 4).
Measure tread with a penny. If the tread covers the top of Lincolns head it's OK.
It should recover quickly when it hits a bump.
Fluid stains under a car could indicate a leak or at a dealership that cars are moved to hide leaks.
A musty smell in the trunk or carpet indicates water damage.
A small magnet from your fridge and help you find rot and body repairs to metal parts as it wont stick to body filler or fiberglass. The place to check is around the wheel arches on the sides or anywhere the paint doesnt match.A lot of cars have plastic or fiberglas body panels these days so keep that in mind,

Try this out at a delaership where you know you won't buy a car.
Makes it easier to resist sales pressure. Be prepared to tell a dealer NO and mean it.

Last thing, check out Edmunds.com, Kelly Blue Book.com and E Bay motors to see what you like and about what it costs.
Good luck, now wasn't that a lot ? Hope it helps.

is the chicago mafia responsible for starting gambling and "las vegas as we know it"?

Q. i know in the movie casino and also in a simpsons episode they referenced "the chicago outfit" as running las vegas and making it the gambling and sports betting destination that its known as today back in the 50's and 60's. any truth to this ?

Answer
Good morning Derek,

I hope you are enjoying the first few days of the New Year. I am heading for Pechanga Casino later today.

http://www.pechanga.com/

I love history. Your question hit home because I parked cars on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood as a teenager in 1958â. I was still in high school. I saw a lot of movie stars and ganger types. Boy did they tip well. Busey Siegel is given credit for starting Las Vegas as we know it today. Las Vegas was his dream but he never saw his dream come true. I strongly suggest you read a book called âthe Green Felt Jungleâ. It is one of the very first books about Las Vegas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Green_Felt_Jungle

The New York mob was during very well in California with the opening of Santa Ana Race track in 1934. The New York mob sent Busby Siegel and Meyer Lansky to California in 1937 to start up and develop more gambling operations on the west coast. They met up with another well known Hollywood mob figure named Mickey Cohen. Their first real venture was the Flamingo Casino in 1946.

With the help of mob and Mormon money, Busby went crazy. He went on a spending spree as he envisioned this high class Flamingo Casino in the middle of Las Vegas. The Flamingo Casino opened and lost thousands of dollars. I think it only stayed open for a few months. Busby Siegel was shot and killed in Beverly Hills the following year. He never saw his dream come true. I am only outlining what happen. This is why I encourage you to read the book.

As you note I put down Mormon money. This part is not in the book, but it is true. I hope you enjoy the history part. I will start from the beginning.

The greatest military march in the history of the United States was made by the Mormon Battalion in 1846. The march was made to save California from Mexico, and give the Mormons their own state. They did save California. Los Angeles and many west coast cities still have monuments and historic sites honoring their march.

http://www.mormonwiki.com/Mormon_Battalion

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_Battalion

What does this have to do with Las Vegas? After the march a few Mormons stayed to wait out the winter. They got a job building a mill. After they finished Sutterâs Mill, they stopped off to collect and cash in some gold. They had bags of gold. The rest is history. Gold discovered at Sutter Mill. This was the cause of the gold rush to California. The Mormons collected their share of gold weeks before. On their way back home, they purchased thousands of acres of land for the Mormon Church while crossing Nevada.

After the death of Busey Siegel, many New York mobsters saw the potential of Busby Siegelâs dream of gambling in Las Vegas. From 1952 to 1957, through money and institutional lending provided by the Teamsters Union now under the control of mobsters and Mormon bankers they built the Sahara, the Sands, the New Frontier, the Showboat, The Riviera, The Fremont, The Horseshoe, and The Tropicana.

The casinos are owned and operated by a joint combine of Mormon elders who provided political and business legitimacy, and people involved with organized crime provided unreported income and street muscle, such as Meyer Lansky, Buseyâs original partner. These crime hotels are regarded as the modern day Las Vegas of gambling and entertainment which we know today.

Well Derek, I hope you enjoyed the little known history of Las Vegas. One other thing, Mickey Cohen, who was Busbyâs enforcer, sold me my first car. He offered me his 57â Chevy right on the spot because he just got the first introduced 58â Chevrolet Impala.

http://www.oldride.com/library/1957_chevrolet_bel_air.html

Good luck Derek. You and your family have a beautiful year. Peace, from Los Angeles.

I am looking for a comfartable/luxury car which is good off road as well as on the road and is quiete economic, which costs up to 20 grand. something like volkswagen toureg or range rover but a bit more economic. any suggestions?

Answer
Honda Pilot or Toyota 4Runner. Avoid Range Rover (unreliable and expensive to fix) and VW (very expensive to fix, and Touaregs are overpriced).

How come this world is dominated by only three Car groups..?

Wade 550 (

Volskwagen Group, FIAT and Chrysler.

These 3 groups own nearly 93% of all family, sports, gran tourers, luxury cars sold in 2011.

Mercedes Benz is not even there.

How is this possible..?

Answer
they buy out smaller car companies.

e.g. fiat bought ferrari. volkswagen bought audi, lambourghini, porsche etc.

volkswagen are huge.

your figures must just be for europe right?

I can't imagine that these stats hold true for east asia e.g. japan, china

toyota would surely have to be there

Why do people say that European sport cars have better fuel economy?

sports cars best mpg on 2013 Ford Fusion Nascar | Autos News - New Cars Reviews
sports cars best mpg image

Steven

The general consensus is that European cars, including their sport cars, have better fuel economy than their competitors (this especially the case when compared to American automobiles). Almost every "Car with the Worst MPG" list (or one with a similar title) almost every sport car on those list are either models of wither Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, and other European models. If these different lists all have these same models in their count then there must be something to these similarities (in this case that these European sports cars have worse fuel economy than those from non-European manufacturers).

So why do people keep stating the opposite of what appears to be the truth in this case? Can someone explain this clearly to mean?

Btw this question is only about sport cars.

Answer
I never heard of people saying that Euro cars are more efficient.

But anyways, look at Porsche. They have some of the cleanest running engines. In big cities, the city air going into the intake is dirtier than the air coming out of the exhaust. So it is like a vacuum cleaner.

And the 480HP+ Porsche 911 Turbo that reaches 193mph and goes from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds gets 25mpg highway and 18mpg city. There is no competing supercar that comes close to those figures.

What is a good sports car that have good fuel economy?

Imran

I wanna buy a nice sports car that looks cool and also have a good fuel economy. Like 25 MPG.

Answer
Depending on how much you want to spend, I'd say that you should look at www.porsche.com and look at whatever suits your taste. Most of the models get between 24 and 27 MPG. But they are quite expensive, so like I said before, it all depends on how much you are willing you spend.

Here are some specs for the basic model of the Porsche Boxter: 255 hp @ 6,400 rpm; 0-60 mph: 5.6 seconds; Top Speed: 163 mph; Fuel Consumption (Highway): 27 mpg (Manual Transmission).

MSRP $ 48,100.00

Porsche also makes a kind of Automatic Transmission that they call "Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)", which can be purchased for $ 51,520.00

What are high paying jobs in the automotive field?

sports cars under 50k on Best 2013 cars / Sports cars under $50k
sports cars under 50k image

991

I love working on cars. And I also love high end exotics like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus(LFA), etc.
What kind of jobs give good pay or atleast enough in the automotive field to afford a exotic plus a decent life. I mean I don't want to drive a Ferrari and live under a bridge.

I know how to fix basic things on cars(I'm a freshman in highschool) and I love upkeeping/detailing cars. I'll eventually learn the bigger things like engine repair, transmission rebuild, collision repair etc.

I mean can owning a dealership that sells around 6-10 cars a month with $500-2000 profit make around $100k or more a year? I live for cars and just don't have the mindset of being a doctor or something. I can't spend a day without seeing atleast 1 car of any sort. Picture form or in person.

Answer
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the guys that drive exotics aren't in the automotive field. They are investment bankers, sports stars, CEOs or celebrities.

The math just doesn't work. First, owning a car dealership involves several hundred thousand dollars (minimum) start-up capital - and that's cash (you need to borrow more than that). Guessing you don't have that. Also, when you say $2000 profit on a car (which is a reasonable assumption), you're forgetting you've got to pay overheard on the dealership, staff and just everyday expenses. You'd go bankrupt in a hurry at 10 cars a month with $2000 profit each. More like 10 cars per day........but there is still that problem of rounding up a few hundred thousand in cash in upfront capital, plus having the credit for loans for the rest of it. Even assuming you had your own dealership, while it can provide a good life, it still won't be Ferrari good.

For a $250K exotic (which is on the low end for your list - maybe a Lambo Gallardo, but that's about it), you better have income of at least half a mil a year. Same ratio as a guy making $50K buying a "regular" $25K car. There is no job in the auto industry short of CEO or other top exec that provides that kind of coin. You'll need to set your sites higher.

Good luck!

Is the Ford GT one of the best American sports cars?

A p

I watched the Top Gear review, and found out that though American cars typically are not as good as foriegn cars, that the Ford GT is an exception to that, partially because it handles turns rather well.
Just curious what those of you on Y!A think

Answer
The Corvette is still the best American sports car. In production continuously since 1953, and you can still buy one for under $50K. The Ford GT was an extremely limited production copy of an exotic race car, and hugely expensive to buy and maintain. If it were better than Corvette, you could still buy a new one.

What are some nice first cars for a teen driver?

luxury cars 2010 on ... , quiet car you can buy without stepping into ultra-luxury territory
luxury cars 2010 image

Christophe

I have about $6 - 8,000 to spend on this car. Since I mainly would like to have a car with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) I know that my year range may have to move up to about 2001-2008. I really like the styling of the Volvo sedans (preferably the S40) but I also know that they aren't recommended as first cars because of their maintenance costs, reliability issues, etc. I also understand that with a price point like mine, my mileage on the car will be about or over 100,000.

What I'm trying to say is that I wouldn't like a high end luxury car like a BMW, but a vehicle with decent gas mileage, creature comforts like leather seating and power seats, and is all around a nice car to look at. Coming from driving my mom's fully loaded 2010 ES 350, some of those features would be nice to have.

As far as power and performance would go, I really would be fine with a 4 banger, but added horses would be nice, too. I don't really have a lead foot, and I'm not a speed demon either.

Here are some of the car choices that I've considered.
2004 Acura TSX
2006 - 2007 Honda Accord
2001 Lexus ES 300
2004 - 2007 Mazda 3
2003 - 2007 Mazda 6
2005 - 2006 Nissan Altima
2001 - 2007 Nissan Maxima
2007 Toyota Camry (XLE Trim Preferably)
2004.5 - 2007 Volvo S40
2001 - 2007 Volvo S60

*NOTE: Please don't mention a Civic or a Corolla. I know that they are great cars, but I personally would like something that offers a little more in a car.

Answer
I like the Volvos because they are safe. Since you are not a speed demon, which is a relief, I think you can handle any of the above mentioned cars. But, remember, even though you are a conscientious driver doesn't mean everyone else is. If you end up in an accident, the Volvo probably is the safest. Volvo prides themselves on developing safe cars. This way you can get something zippy, attractive and safe.

Have fun with your new wheels.

I am think about buying a G37 and people are telling me that its a gas guzzler. I checked many websites (including the EPA fuel economy) and everyone states the car gets 19 city/27hwy. In my opinion that is pretty good gas milage for a sports luxury sedan. A lot of other luxury cars have the same exact gas mileage...

Answer
cuz it is, its a huge gas guzzler when you compare it with the Toyota prius doing 40 kph......

its because these idiots who claim that either dont fill up premium or dont do an oil change...... and its true! i had a friend (shes very stupid and tired of how stupid she was) she bought a toyota echo back in 2007 and i must say it saves alot of fuel but she never did one single oil change, that fucked up the engine and guess what, before that she was doing 3 mpg!

sports cars 10 000 image
Q. I am 15 years old and when i turn 16 in early march next year i would like to buy a nice used car. (about $10,000 give or take) I want to know my options about saving/investing and how to maximize the potential of my money in 12 months. I am willing to invest and take a marginal risk in the stockmarket and have a job that will gie me about $4,000 by march next year. thankyou for your help!

Answer
work as much as you can, and SAVE YOUR MONEY! try to avoid spending money on things you want, so that you can save as much as possible. start a budget, with an amount each week for fun, savings, other expenses, etc. the other answer was right, don't get a sports car or anything stupid like that, it will kill you on insurance. before you buy, call you insurance company, and get a quote, so you won't be surprised by the insurance. Good Luck

Can anyone give me good car suggestions?

Gorilla R

I;m looking for a sports car that is a coupe, low to the ground, hatch back ( the back seats and trunk attached), has back seats that could fit 2-3 people. I don't want any thing older than 1990 and one that's in a decent condition should be around $10,000, bit more is okay. It should also have some body parts in the market because i want to customize it as I get more money.

Answer
Dodge Stealth or Mitsubishi 3000GT, the high end models are great performers. As far as back seat, they have them, depends on how big the people you are hauling are as to how comfy they will be.

sports cars that are cheap to insure image

Frankie

Im 17 yrs old, and about to move out.. My mother is not to happy with this so she is keeping my car. Now I have to buy my own car and pay the insurance as well, what kind of cars should I start looking at? Used of course, but what types of cars would be cheapest to insure?

Answer
The best (i.e. cheapest) to insure would be the smaler, "dependable transportation" type cars: toyota corollas, honda civics, hyundai accents, etc. All sports cars would be tremendously expensive.
Good luck!

Which make of cars are cheap to insure?

cactuswolf

I'm planning on getting a new car but which car manufacturers make cars that are cheap on insurance? It seems Honda is on the higher side, but I was looking at Mitsubishi and theirs seems pretty low, and Mitsu is the one I was going to go with to begin with. Any suggestions? Assume it's just a normal non-sports car.

Answer
Most insurance companies rank every make/model of car with a number system and the higher the number rank of the car, the higher the insurance will be. The ranking number can go up depending on things such as how much that make/model is stolen or broken into and how safe they are if a wreck were to occur. your zip code also has a lot to do with the ranking. Also the newer your car is the more expensive the insurance will be. I don't know that there is a specific manufacturer who is cheaper than the other. I think it comes down to model more than make. I hope this helps

What is the fastest stock V6 import tuner and what is it's 0-60 time?

rwd sports cars 90's image

Josh

I want to get a V6 tuner and tweak it for street racing purposes. The only thing is, I want one that looks good and drives excellent as well.

Answer
This depends on a couple of factors. 1st, what is your price range? Because the fastest import for under $10,000 is going to be a totally different car than the fastest import that is under $40,000.
Also, new or used? And before I list a few cars, I would make 1 suggestion. I wouldnt necesarilly rule out 4 cylinder cars. Some come stock faster than many V-6 cars in the same class, and most of hte 4 cylinder imports are going to be easiert to modify. For example, I own a 2005 Honda Accord EX V-6 6MT coupe. I love my car, it is fast enough to be a blast to drive, (0-60mph in 5.9 seconds) but I know its FWD and not a sports car. But, if I did happen to be interested in tuning it, I would find out that there arent many performance products out there for the V-6 Accord, but there are a TON for the 4 cylinder Accord. So although while stock the 6 cylinder is faster, it would be easier to modify the 4 cylinder, if thats what route you are going to take.
So basically, I wouldn't rule out anything just because its not a V-6. I also would not recommend a FWD car. Even though there are some fast ones (Acura Integra GSR, Honda Civic Si, Honda Accord V-6 coupe, Mazda Speed3, Dodge SRT-4, Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T), and some that handle pretty good, there still is no comparing them to RWD or AWD....

So, saying all that, here is a short list of both older and newer RWD import cars that are either fast to begin with, or are easily modifiable. I will list a few of the 0-60 mph times, but the others will be easy to look up, and will also vary depending on which model, or what modifications are done...
Acurs NSX (0-60 mph 4.7 seconds)
Toyota MR-2 (late 90's)
Toyota Supra (0-60 mph: 4.8 seconds)
Nissan Skyline (0-60 mph: 4.7 seconds)
Nissan 240SX
Nissan 300Z (0-60 mph: 5.5 seconds)
Nissan 350Z or 370ZX (0-60mph; 5.2 seconds)
Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX / Eagle Talon TSi (0-60 mph: 6.3 seconds)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (0-60 mph: 4.8 seconds)
BMW M3 (0-60 mph: 4.8 seconds)
Mazda Miata
Mazda RX-7 (0-60 mph: 5.3 seconds)
Mazda RX-8 (0-60 mph: 6.5 seconds)
Subaru WRX STi (0-60mph: 4.8 seconds)
VW R32
Honda S2000 (0-60 mph: 5.5 seconds)

I would say that brand new, for now price budget the Nissan GT-R is by far the best choice. For a medium budget I would suggest the Nissan 370Z, although the STi and Evo are great AWD choices.

For used with no budget I would suggest either an Acura NSX or Nissan Skyline. Both would be extremely rare, and extremely fast.
For used with a medium budget I would suggest a used Sti, M3 or Supra twin turbo for stock performance.
For a good purchase price to leave room for lots of modifications, you cant go wrong with: Nissan 240SX, Toyota MR2, Mazda Miata.

Is the Scion FRS AT a good car for everyday driving?

RichardC

So I'm about to turn 16 and get my first car, and lets be honest, I'm in Highschool, I want a car that impresses, and I also want a car my dad will agree to get me (he said he'd get me the FRS)
I'm a responsible (for my age, probably not overall) person so I'm not gonna bring my new FRS to backroads or do other crazy stuff with it, and I know people are gonna be all like, "OMG! If you get a sportscar you gotta do that!" but lets just leave that fact aside for a second. Would this car be good for everyday driving such as to/from school, getting food, all that other stuff? I do plan on getting the automatic if that makes any difference.

Answer
Preface: I'm 23, just ordered an FR-S.

First, I'm going to recommend that a high schooler NOT get a new car. Source: I was in high school. Reasons: you're just learning to drive, so it's VERY likely you'll have some minor fender benders, especially in the school parking lot. Insurance will be VERY VERY expensive for a 16-year-old in a new car. Also, new cars don't make much sense financially at all.

There are other intangible benefits to getting an older car: You learn to work on them. This is what drove me to a career in engineering: fixing my old Chevy with my Dad when it broke; everything from simple routine maintenance (oil changes, brakes, etc) to tearing apart the engine looking for a leaky gasket. This isn't for everyone, but it's an excellent life skill to learn, like cooking or home repair.

Buying a reliable old car is definitely a better choice, ESPECIALLY for a new driver. You can even get a fun car!

As for the FR-S specifically: First, safety. It's rear-wheel-drive, and on the stock summer tires it will be a HANDFUL in the winter. I recommend learning to drive RWD in the winter, but I wouldn't do it for the first time in a shiny new sports car. It has TCS and ESC and ABS, but these are little substitute for proper driving skill (and SNOW TIRES in the winter).

Second, practicality. The FR-S is TINY! Your parents may like that you can't haul 6 other loud teenagers, but when it comes time to move out or buy any furniture you will be hurting.

Third, Why Automatic Transmission? For a focused driver's car like the FR-S that brings a high level of communication and handling to the table, why wouldn't you get a manual? I recommend everyone learn; it's WAY more fun and not fatiguing at all to me. However, I've heard that the AT in the FR-S is pretty decent - so it's not a terrible option.

The positives of the FR-S: It's cool, it will be tons of fun to drive, it isn't overpowered (I see teenagers in Mustang GTs and I worry about them wrapping it around a tree; it's different if they have more training/experience). It's also reasonably priced, which is why I'm getting one as my first car out of college.

In conclusion, if you really are set on it, it's not a terrible option, but: GET SNOW TIRES in the winter!
I'd recommend a 16-year-old get an older used car (fun options: 2.5RS, AE86 corolla (fix it), Protege5, Miata, Probe GT, Celica GT, old small truck, Civic, Mazda3, 3rd gen Camaro, E30, GTI, Jetta, B5 A4, all of the above with manual trans). Other not-as-fun-but-still-OK options: late 90's chevy/buick, 90's-2000s Civic/Accord/Camry/Corolla.

I really want a muscle car, but many are way to expensive. I heard making clones are really cheap and good. I have no idea about where to go or what to do. I was wondering what the steps are to do. This will help me out a lot. Thanks

Answer
Your alittle mixed up there man.

You cant make a fake or clone chevelle..

Clones are plan jane base model cars, they are made to look like Super sports, Z28's, Ralley sprots, etc etc

Like a chevelle SS clone.. Which is a base model chevlle with parts installed on body, interior, engine that GM used on the SS's.

It now looks like a chevelle SS but it wasnt a factory made one so it's a clone

Which used cars should I avoid buying as a young teenager?

BugattiVey

No, I'm not the same person posting this same question. I'm doing this just so that everyone can answer quickly. I have to go to sleep now because I have school tomorrow, so answer this question and then I'll take a took at them by tomorrow.

Here are the top 10 used cars to avoid. Avoid and do not fall in love with used cars that is unreliable to use, high fuel consumption, and high maintenance. You can buy one of these cars in a real cheap price but you may end up spend more on gas, maintenance, and pay a lot for labor. Therefore, choose properly before you made your decision to buy any new or used cars.

10. Used cars without a certificate
There are a lot of used cars that will not pass smog, but that's only for people who only know a little bit about cars, not for those who sell cars for a living.

9. Brand new cars
Avoid any 2012 or a 2013 vehicle because you might pay the right value plus tax to purchase the car, and then sell at at a very high or very low price. It would be better to buy a lightweight, Japanese family car made in the early 90's, since they're more reliable than a newer one.

8. Vehicles 25 years or older that have been driven at extremely high miles
A vintage or antique vehicle that is driven everyday with extremely high miles should be avoided.

7. Exotic or fast cars
There are some Aston Martins, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Porsche, Corvettes, and other cute sports cars always garaged and covered by personal collector, and driven while the weather is clear. These cars may not meet emission and safety standards and should be avoided, with the exception of older Bentley and Rolls-Royce.

6. Avoid a Smart car because it is too small and ugly

5. Avoid race cars
Stock cars, Formula 1 cars, and Go-karts aren't legal for driving on the roads, even if it's legally modified to do so. These cars still have trouble passing emission and safety standards as well.

4. Police cars, taxi cabs, fleet cars, buses, etc.
Police cars, taxi cabs, fleet cars, buses, or some cars that you know it has been heavily used and been driven for long hours over thousands of miles. It is not worth to take the risk to buy these cars although the price may be very attractive.

3. Avoid used commercial cars
Commercial cars, trucks, and minibus that have been driven a lot everyday need to be avoid. This is because these cars are usually driven by people who do not own them and they will not care the car.

2. Uber-low-price fake cars
Never ever buy a used, clean, pretty car (often a new or exotic car) that's unbelievably priced too low. These owners want you to email them instead of call. Well, what happens if you try email him/her? They'll email back to you and tell you thanks for being interested in their car, and the shipping process to Canada or Latin America will take about 3-4 days. But still, the car will never be shipped over there, so it's a scam.

1. Avoid Hummers
These trucks are even worse on gas than the Bugatti Veyron, Range Rover, Porsche Cayenne, Chevy Suburban, and the Ford Econoline. No Hummers in our house, please! Thank you!

This truck should be avoided: http://i48.tinypic.com/2lv0it4.jpg

Last, but NOT least... avoid cheap, small and ugly cars that were imported to the U.S. or Canada from another country by non-professional, such as a Daewoo, a Ford Festiva, a Ford Ka, a Peugeot 106, an AMC Pacer, and the Geo Metro:
http://i46.tinypic.com/6oncw7.jpg

If you want a really small and slow car, then go for a Fiat 500 or a Mini Cooper, not a Smart car or other slow, small and ugly cars!

Answer
The price of gas is high, but that car...you just...can't...get it...out of...your head! THE MADNESS! If visions of your own ride are just too overpowering, take a peek at your bank account before looking at available cars. Gas. Insurance. Maintenance. Cleaning. And oh, those fender benders⦠Texting while driving is just way expensive. Before stepping foot on a dealer's lot, make absolutely sure that you know exactly how much you can pay for a car, whether your parents will help you with the purchase (and by how much), when and where you'll be able to drive the car and who will pay for gas, insurance, repairs and maintenance. Whenever a young buyer doesn't know the absolute max they can spend, a car salesman gets his wings... and too much of that buyerâs cash. Being fuzzy on your real budget gives the seller the opportunity to jack up the price, hoping that you'll reach deeper into your pockets. They are sharks. You are salmon. Get the picture.
