I'm 14 and when I'm older, I'm looking into started a luxury / exotic car rental business. I've read about it, there's less people who can afford to rent a luxury car, but there are a lot who do have the money and/ or want to just drive one or impress their friends. If I a rental business in New York City, Miami, and Los Angeles, about how much money would I make after being in business after about 10 years?

Answer

Why is it so expensive to rent a jet ski?

Go with th

Some places charge $60 just for a half hour.
Not even a luxury car could cost that much for an entire day.

Is it that they tear up easily?
Is it that the gas is free - and they use $30 worth of gas?

Answer
Liability insurance added to our litigious society. The renter has no idea of how you're going to use the equipment or whether or not you have a clue on how to control it. If you could see all of the drunks tearing up the lakes around where I live, you'd understand. Plus, they are easy to steal.

Why is it that at higher altitudes, our car can use lower octane gasoline?

luxury cars that use 87 octane gas on ... gas do you use? - Page 4 - Smart Car of America Forums : Smart Car
luxury cars that use 87 octane gas image

MortalGuar

We have a 95 Volvo 850 GLT. The manufacturer recommends using 91 octane gas. But if you are 5000 feet above the level of the sea, you can use 87 octane gas. Why?

Answer
Octane is needed in gasoline to prevent "knock". "Knock" is when the gasoline ignites from compression before the spark fires. Your car runs most smoothly and optimally when the gasoline ignites at the proper moment, not before and not after. Your electronic ignition system chooses the optimal moment and fires the spark plug then. It's less good if the gasoline explodes "accidentally" before the ignition system decides it's the right time.

Gasoline will ignite from compression at a certain pressure that depends on the octane. Higher octane gas will be fine at high pressures where lower octane gas would ignite. An engine compresses the air-gas mixture by compacting it to a smaller volume. That multiplies the atmospheric air pressure by the same as the ratio of the large to the small volume, which is called the compression ratio. If the multiplied pressure is higher than the low octane gas can take, then you get knock. But if you go to higher altitude, the atmospheric pressure starts at a lower pressure, and even when multiplied, it stays below the limit of the low octane gas.

Most "economy cars" have low compression ratios, so that they can use low octane gas even up to sea level atmospheric pressure. They multiply the atmospheric pressure by a smaller amount and it stays under the limit for the low octane gas. But European luxury or sports cars like yours often have high compression ratios.

If you have a supercharger but dont want to use the pricey gas could you take the belt off and drive without?

Zackary

I was contemplating on putting a supercharger into my V6 Mustang 3.8L and I read that they require at least 91 octane gas but I was wondering if maybe you could disconnect the belt to the supercharger and run regular 87 octane gas until you wanted to actually use the supercharger?

Answer
I'm not real familiar with how a supercharger works, but from what I know, it's not possible. Once you add a supercharger you add on alot more potential with the engine. It forces more air into the cylinders for a bigger explosion, meaning more HP.

Running 91 octane isn't bad. Idk where u are, but diesel cost more where I am. All sports cars, especially high-end ones, run on 91 aka premium. Luxury SUVs also run on premium.

If you stay out of the supercharge range(on turbo cars the turbos turn on at about 3000rpm, once they are on more gas is used). I know a guy who can get a good 25mpg out of his supercharged mustang GT. running 87 really only means less power to the engine.

Does the SC say requires premium? Or does it say recommend premium? If it says recommend, you can run 87 with the supercharger on.

Is there any good car cheaper than 18 thousand dollars?

juveroma4e

I'm going to college next year and I want a first car. Of course a first car will not be a luxury or a sports car unless its cheap. So do you know any good car cheaper than 18 thousand dollars?

thanks

Answer
Let me do you a BIG favor by offering my advice, based on hard learned lessons learned. I also just bought a new vehicle and did months of in depth research. I'll bottom line it for you.

First, stop thinking about cheap and small and instead, think SAFETY. Unless you have been involved in a serious accident, you really have no clue how important this is. It is too late once something happens and you are permanently disabled, can't walk or live in pain for the rest of your life- or worse. With texting and distracted driving, drinking and driving, etc., serious accidents are on the rise. With that said, I understand the whole college budget thing and you don't have to spend an arm and a leg but simply make a smart choice.

To be clear, make your decision based on SAFETY as your #1 criteria. The two websites to use to identify safer used (or new) cars include iihs.org and safercar.gov. Look for 4-5 star ratings ONLY. Obviously 5 is better. Rule of thumb, the heavier the vehicle, the safer it usually is. Also look for good visibility all around and especially the rear corners. They make vehicles today that close you in- this does make you more survivable which they can market as "5 start" BUT ironically it also statistically leads to more accidents (see insurance stats online) because you simply cannot see. From there, you can bargain hunt and look for decent MPG. I understand that small, cute cafe style cars (yaris, prius, etc.) seem trendy and cool and they sip gas but how much will your medical bills cost you if you get hit in one? Hint, one MRI is $2, 500- rehab about $20k if you are lucky; meds = $20k a year and much, much more- loss of work= $80k/year, etc. You get the idea. I know about this and know friends who were seriously injured in these "economy cars." Ironically, they are no bargain at all- in the long run.

Make your own decision but trust me, this is very, very good advise.

My Top picks in order based on your criteria + safety...

#1 Subaru Forester 2011 (very safe and 4 wheel drive; great visibility and handling in an SUV)
Not good on gas- burns a little oil and might be slightly over your 18k requirement BUT it's a trade-off. Again, it is VERY safe and in the long run, that could save your life and $$$. Has 5 star roof strength- it's a new safety criteria that means if you flip it, the roof will not crush. The CR-V basically failed this test.
The 2011 Forester also has the latest safety technology e.g., smart and multiple airbags, stability control, traction control, anti lock brakes, emergency brake assist (if you hit them hard, it senses an emergency and automatically multiplies the force to the pedal), daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring, an engine that is designed to drop safely to the ground in the case of an accident.

Chevy Equinox 2010-12 - great and very safe.

Chevy Malibu 2008-12

Subaru Outback 2010-12

Volvo S60 2011-12

Ford Taurus 2010-12

Michael

Coupe, Sedan, SUV, Stationwagon, Hatchback, Convertible, Roadster (two-seaters)?

Which type of car is just meant to drive nice?

Answer
The problem is that the 'classifications' are whatever you want them to be. You can call your eight ton road grader a sports car if you want. Then, there are too many specifics as to 'driving'. Taking six kids to the zoo is driving, a 750 mile cruzz half-way across the country, drag racing on Friday night, a curvy mountain road east of L.A., street cruzzing in Detroit. Define where you are going to drive.. For general everyday driving, which, for me, could be 500 miles a day or bumper-to-bumper grid lock, I love my four door V-8 Fords. Have a Grand Marquis LS-E with the police engine & suspension, plus eight yards of leather, buckets, CD changer with a sub-woofer. I'm at home commuting to work or driving to Denver for vacation...

How many more seasons can the Spurs realistically contend with their current core?

BastionB

The Spurs have been one of the NBA's elite franchises ever since drafting Tim Duncan in 1997. They have won 4 championships and have the best winning percentage of any North American sports franchise since then! They are still currently contenders even now with a core of Duncan, Ginobili and Parker, but how long can they stay contenders now that Duncan is beginning to reach the downside of his career? What can they do to assure that they stay on top even when Duncan's skills start to decline?

Answer
Since Pop plays Duncan vary sparingly with his minutes (He always has for his entire career) Duncan could realistically be a real contender for another 4 to 6 years. Sure he will decline a bit but a declining Duncan is better than 95% of most bigs in the NBA. Keep in mind Duncan is younger than Garnett and has played fewer minutes. He's only one year older than Kobe, and once again has fewer minutes on his body. Minutes on a NBA player is like mileage on a car. After a while the car starts to break down from use, so will the body. Ginobili, even though he's a bit younger than Tim will need a back-up or a replacement soon and that is because of his play style. Manu has one speed and that is all-out. He throws his body around with reckless abandon. That is why the team calls him El-Contusion, they say by the end of the season he's on big bruise. That will catch up to him over time. Parker is still young, only 26. He is the nucleus of the new team when Duncan steps down. The constant chatter about the Spurs being to "OLD" right now just doesn't hold up, when you look at teams like Boston. All of their stars are "OLD" have been injury prone high minute players, yet no one says they are to "OLD". Boston couldn't win if they lost any two of their stars to injury. SA could still be a ELITE contender if they lost anyone but Duncan. The Spurs just played one of the other elite west teams and almost won, with the BIG 3 sitting out for the game plus they also sat Finley their forth leading scorer. I challenge LA to do the same. Sit Kobe, Gasol, Fisher, & Odom, and see how well the team does, the Spurs were in the game until the last 45 seconds on the clock with Denver, I doubt LA would do as well.

The Spurs are still a solid team. Only those who aren't true basketball fans would say or think otherwise. They will continue to be a viable threat to win a title for at least another 4 years. It could be longer, we don't know what may change for the team. Tiago Splitter will be joining the team next season, he has been hailed by EVERY pro scout as the best player in the euro-league. He could give Duncan that added big man punch the team needs. Splitter is a 6-11 big who can shoot the 3, as well a bang inside. If people are impressed with the game of Scola, consider that SA had his rights and gave them up because they knew splitter was better, what does that tell you? Then The team also drafted well with George Hill. those who don't watch Spurs games are only seeing Rose & Mayo, they are missing Hill. he's one of the most overlooked and probably going to be one of the best future PGs and overall players in the current rookie class. Last was the SA's free agent pick-up of Roger Mason jr. Mason has been nothing short of amazing. he has burned everyone from LA to Boston with his 3pt shooting. and he keeps getting better. (Keep in mind he's only 28). Sorry I forgot to mention Matt Bonner, mainly because everyone forgets about him until he drops 20+ points on you and 14 rebounds. he's been doing it all season long. He has developed into one of the most devastating shooters in the league. He should easily be near the top of the short list of players for "Comeback Player of the Year", he's also only 28.

what is a fast car for under 5k?

luxury cars under 5000 on ... for the real world...: Style for The Average Joe, Personal Luxury Cars
luxury cars under 5000 image

Eric

I am looking for a car that is under 5k that is a 1995 or newer. I'm looking for a car that has good speed stock, but can also be easily upgraded to make it faster. I don't really want anything like a civic or integra, but something still reliable. Let me know! Thanks.

Answer
* Audi UrS4 (92-~95) turbo awd 5cyl w/ 227hp
* 1991 Audi 200 20-valve turbo 217hp (awd 5cyl)
* mid 90s BMW 540i 282hp V8
* mid 90s Acura Legend with Series-II 3.2L and 6spd manual - not too moddable
* 97+ Buick Regal GS model (240hp/280tq from 3.8L supercharged V6)
* 95+ Nissan Maxima with 5-speed manual (Award winning 190hp VQ-series V6) moddable
* Buick Roadmaster with the LT1 V8 (heavy but surprising with 260hp and around 330tq) moddable
* 93+ Camaro Z28 with LT1 -- very moddable obviously, but insurance $$, decent mpg w/ T56 6spd
* mid 90s Caprice 9c1 package (police) with 260hp Lt1 -- moddable, but ~odd cop car look
* Fox body 5.0 Mustang. ~85-93 years 205-225hp very moddable of course, insurance $$
* 89-95 Taurus SHO, 5spd preferable, older SHOs were quickest 0-60 ~6.5 seconds
* Mazda RX7 turbo, pre-93 RX7 turbo w/ 200hp turbo rotary
* Mercedes 420E (heavier luxury sedan, but quick and rock solid)
* Oldsmobile 88 LSS with the L67 supercharged V6 (240hp/280tq) sleeper luxo sedan
* Dodge Spirit R/T model only, rare but has 227hp from Lotus-designed 2.2L DOHC turbo 4.
* Dodge Daytona R/T w/ same engine has Spirit R/T -- both fast cars, Spirit is more sleeperish
* Toyota Supra MK3 turbo - 232hp 5spd, very moddable but heavy car
* Toyota Celica All Trac with 2.0 turbo 190-200hp, AWD and moddable.
* 1990+ Toyota MR2 Turbo, same engine has Celica All Trac but MR setup and LSD differential.
* 1990-era Saab 900 SPG, not too quick, but moddable (notorious transmission problems though)
* Saab 9000 with 2.3 Turbo engine, ideally the Aero model with highest horsepower, 5spd.
* Volvo 850 T5, 222+hp, very moddable but all automatics
* Volvo V70, updated 850, but offers a 5spd manual in turbo models. Not sure if you can find for under $5000 though, but check.
* Volkswagen Corrado VR6, awesome handling (rivals Prelude vtec for handling)
* ~1991 Isuzu Impulse RS model only, AWD with 160hp turbo 4, Lotus designed suspension, very rare car.

Just a few of the many cars out there that can be fast as hell with little mods here n there. If you want a fast stock luxury car for cheap, look into the Cadillac Eldorado ECT or Seville STS model because they have the 300hp version of the 4.6 Northstar engine and do 0-60 in well under 7 seconds. Also the Porsche 944 turbo could be a great car for you, but it may be hard to find one under 5k in decent condition (worth the search though) and are known to be one of the best handling Porsches ever made.

what do religious people think about food storage and being self reliant?

falisrm

do you think food storage is a biblical concept? is it taught or encouraged in your church or is it a false and dumb idea to follow?

Answer
I'm LDS (Mormon), but I'm a convert. My desire for food storage goes back to the days of my very earliest childhood, decades before I joined the LDS Church.

I grew up with stores about my Great Grandmother & Great Grandfather who lived near Chicago. They were the first of my family to come to the U.S.A., from Poland. My Great Grandfather worked in the coal mines.

My Great Grandmother ran the farm, and took care of the 8 children their marriage produced. During a two year miner striker, my forefathers ate, and ate well. They had protein from chickens, rabbits, dairy for the cows, and eggs from chickens. They even had a beef to slaughter ever year. They grew all their fruits and vegetables. They only went to grocery stores for items like sugar. Everything else they raised, harvested and preserved themselves.

When the Great Depression rolled around the other miners were showing up with a boiled potato in their lunch box. My Great Grandfather had chicken....every single day. Imagine doing a hard physical job like working in a mine having eaten a boiled potato, or having eaten chicken...! My Great Grandfather ate so much chicken during the Great Depression, he refused to eat chicken when the economy got better.

Since I was a six year old girl, I have known I was going to live on a farm, and do things the natural way. Now that I'm an adult in my 40's, I live on a permaculture farm, where we grow 90% of the food we eat. That includes the livestock we butcher, dairy goats for milk, and chickens for eggs, as well as our ever growing orchard. We even planted 12,000 native trees on our farm, to become our future wood lot, as we do most of our heating with wood.

We FIRMLY believe in being as self sufficient and as prepared as possible. Our pantry currently contains a bit over two years food storage, for three adults. By that, I mean enough food to supply us with a wholesome 5000 calorie a day diet for over two years, should we ever find we need it. So reality is we have more like a four year food storage under current good conditions

Our food storage stems not from the teachings of the LDS Church. It stems from the very history of my family. So after 9/11 happened, and my mother didn't have a sale in real estate for over 9 months, we were able to take all the money we had (just her and I at the time), and apply it to mortgage, gas for the car, phone and the power bill. We purchased virtually no groceries for a year, until money picked up for her. After I married, my horse broke my husband's hand. As the main wage earner, he was down for three months, and in reality more like five months. Yet we ate well, and the money we had was applied to mortgage, power, gas, and phones.

Now all three of us have pooled our resources on one farm. This means the mortgage will be paid off decades earlier. The trees to be our future heat source have been planted. We have taken care of the filtering of our own water, instead of depending on the state to do so (the water in most of our county is contaminated by decades use of chemicals on berry fields).

Hubby is about to start on an addition to this home, which will include solar power, and a composting toilet.

We looked at all of our bills. There are only two we cannot produce ourselves. That is phone and internet. We have to pay for those two luxury service. Everything else, mortgage, water, garbage, food, heat, power, sewer, even fuel for our vehicles is currently, or will be produced by ourselves/our farm.

Being completely independent also means you REALLY are a citizen of this country (U.S.A.) and absolutely free to vote however you want. Since we are not depending on the Government to provide services for us...well that means we are not dependent. The Government/politicians actually hate people like us. It's desperately difficult for them to find a carrot to dangle out to get our vote. They also have to actually do their job, since we pay attention, and we vote.

You cannot promise to lower the price of fuel for us (can you beat .69 cent a gallon?). You cannot offer to add onto the power grid (we'll be completely off grid in a few years). You cannot promise new pipes for clean water (we already took car of the problem for ourselves, and have no interest in paying $15,000 to hook up to their "clean water.").

Food storage is a good thing. It allows families to be independent and care for themselves should a crisis hit them. Do you know what the usual reasons for falling back on food storage are? It's not the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

It's death of a main wage earner, long term illness in the family (like cancer), job loss, job slow down, divorce, bad weather (hurricane, snow storm, ect).

I wonder if there is a single person reading this who has not had at least one of those crisis situations hit their family? I bet they didn't have food storage to fall back on!

Hello. I'm making a research paper for Volvo. Can you guys help me out?

In general, are Volvo cars in high quality last year or this year? If so, why? I'm pretty sure it's related to its safety features but I think there could be more factors that affect its quality - the raw materials, maybe? Speaking of which, where do they get the raw materials. Is there any specific company and do they deliver spare parts (or probably cars) in a unique package too?

Thanks. I asked here because I could not find an answer in its websites (or probably missed them out)

Answer
They build a unique style of car. The interior material meet with oketec approval which mean that its not harmful to pregnant women like a lot of plastics and cheaper leather finishes are even with top brands.
The main components are via a raft of mainstream components suppliers Bosch, Valeo, Siemens, carello, brakes by Jurid or Brembo probably get a more comprehensive list of Volvo cars.
They do an Asthma society approved special edition on request it has extra filters rubber flooring and purge pumps to ensure clean air in the cabin.
The cars are quite luxury but based on Ford line up for running components probably in same league as Audi in most people perception.
Reasonably reliable cars, interesting designs.

Can someone please advise me if it is a good idea to purchase the new Nissan Infiniti SUV?

Monde Sibi

I am a 23 year old South African, my mother is actually looking at buying an SUV at the end of September so she asked me for advise. The reason why I'm asking is because the Infiniti is new to South Africa and I don't know a thing about it. I'm tied between the BMW X6, Mercedes ML350 and the Audi Q5/7

Answer
Infiniti is a well established luxury manufacturer in North America and it is also available in more the 55 countries world wide. It is a Japanese Manufacturer as well as the Luxury arm of Nissan the same way Lexus is to Toyota & Audi is to Volkswagen. The Infiniti competes in the luxury market primarily rivaling BMW, Audi, Lexus & Mercedes Benz. Infiniti was first founded in 1989 and it continues to be a successful luxury manufacturer in the Auto Industry. Internationally, pricing will differ in different countries but more often priced competetively with its rivals. However, even though Infiniti comes from Nissan, Infiniti is now partners with Mercedes Benz which means its next Generation of the Infiniti G will be based off the Mercedes C-class platform with a longer wheel base. Many similar collaborations with Mercedes Benz & Infiniti will begin to show in thier product line by 2013. Over all, Infiniti is the most competitve rival up against the Germans in the Japanese segment which include Lexus as well. Infiniti has been the only manufacturer that has been able to come to par with the excellent driving dynamics of a BMW which is why Infiniti receives more cross shoppers from BMW then any other luxury brand they compete with. Infiniti is a brand with an identity that lies between the sportier offerings of a BMW and the plush indulgence of a Lexus. After all the Infiniti is the main alternative to German engineering. Typically the Infiniti brand attracts a much younger clientele due to its sports oriented background the same way BMW & Audi intend to be all while its competitors like Lexus & Mercedes attract a much older demographic. Infiniti and Lexus have proven themselves to be viable competitors against the Germans. Lexus & Infiniti are the top tier of Japanese Luxury cars in the auto industry. Lexus is a reliable product but admittedly they have no soul when it comes to performance, the Infiniti boast more charisma while the Lexus although a refined car leaves you feeling uninspired. Infiniti is essentially the Japanese BMW the same way Lexus is the Japanese Mercedes Benz. Also in terms of reliability the Infiniti has a huge advatage over the germans, not to mention the Infiniti is less demanding to maintain compared to some of its German rivals. From the options listed below, the BMW X6 competes with the Infiniti FX while the smaller Audi Q3 competes with the smaller Infiniti EX. The Audi Q7 here in America competes with the Infiniti JX however the JX is not available in South Africa as of yet. The only models available to South Africa are the Infiniti G coupe, G convertible, M sedan, EX suv & FX suv.

Here are the competitors for the following Infiniti Models.

1. Infiniti G coupe: Audi A5 coupe, BMW 3 series coupe, Mercedes C-class coupe

2. Infiniti G convertible: Audi A5 convertible, BMW 3 series convertible, Lexus ISc convertible, Mercedes E-class convertible.

3. Infiniti M sedan: Audi A6 sedan, BMW 5 series sedan, Lexus GS sedan, Mercedes E-class sedan, Jaguar XF sedan.

4. Infiniti EX suv: Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus RX, Mercedes GLK-class, Land Rover LR2

5. Infiniti FX suv: Porsche Cayenne, BMW X6, Ranger Rover Evoque

You may have to put it on a consignment lot if you aren't willing to sell it yourself. Selling it directly to any dealership will get you a lower price than doing it yourself. But, in the end, it may be the fastest way if that is a concern.

Bryan

I want to buy this Grand Prix gt sedan that's for sale but I can't afford a sports car car payment it's my first car will insurance consider it a "sports car"

Answer
With most insurance companies, there is actually no such thing as a 'sports car' category. In 15 years as a broker, I've never seen or heard of one company who has a sports car surcharge of any kind. That's one of those myths that everyone knows but nobody can actually say how they know it.

It's true that some cars really are pure sports cars, and they can and do cost more to insure. But think about it for a minute... when looking at sticker prices, is a Camaro or Mustang listed at the same price as a (same year) Corolla or Dakota? No, because sports cars are sexy and sexy is expensive. Sports machines have more powerful motors, upgraded interiors, harder suspensions, sleeker designs, and all that stuff.

More expensive car means more expensive insurance premiums, because a vehicle's cash value is the big factor in how vehicles are rated by the companies. They look at other stuff too, but overall value is the big one for the vehicle.

If you got a quote on a Grand Prix GT and then a Grand Prix not-GT from the same year, they'd be almost identical. And no, red paint doesn't do anything to the premiums either.

and do u think if the sports car is still in good condition, i could sell it more than the price i bought it for? then buy a really nice car when i start a family???

Answer
If you are looking for a sports car for no more than $11,000 it will most likely have to be used. There are alot of nice looking used cars that you can pick up. The most common in Grand Rapids MN is a Mitsubishi Eclipse. As to making a profit on it after you drive it for a few years, not likely. You would have to do some upgrading of the car to sell it for a profit, and even then it wouldn't make you a whole lot more than you pay for everything.
Hope this is a little help for you.

Does anyone know of a race track in Minnesota to do time trials for sport cars?

Q. I am wondering about track days. where you can take your own car and do time on the track.

and disadvantages. Are you satisfied with the car?How about the engine response,Comfort etc. Thanks a lot for your answers.

Answer
I would avoid them due to service costs they have some of the highest cost for your routine maintenance repairs. I had a guy who wanted to trade one in because he said the 30000 mile service was going to cost him $2400 to do and that was a gas model most of the times diesels cost even more to work on.

How much does a race car drifter get paid?

Ben

Answer
Because most drifters are not "Professionals" they pay to enjoy the sport. Many of them have the desire to go pro, but can not. Either they do not have the driving skills, karma or have been in the wrong places to compete. Most often all of the above.
So on the average it costs about 30000 dollars a year to compete and often with little or no return on the investment.

what are some pros and cons for owning a sports car and or a truck?

By sports car I mean a challenger srt8 and a truck an F250. I love to hunt and fish. I like living out in the country back in the woods. I enjoy looking at big trucks and watching them do a pull competition to see who can pull the most weight i also like mud riding and off road trail riding. I enjoy looking at sports cars and tuning them up to make them faster and listening to the roaring of the engines. Which would suit me better and what are some pros and cons?

Answer
I had a Nissan 350Z and a Ford F250 4x4 at the same time. Z car was fun to drive, fast, fuel efficient but noisy on the highway. No good for back roads, pot holes, mudding, or hunting. Ground clearance was zero. F250 is diesel, not fuel efficient, will go about anywhere you want. Quieter on the highway than the Z car but not as much fun to drive. I sold the Z car and bought a Jaguar XJR. Now that's a sports car, quiet, fuel efficient, will outrun the Z car hands down (supercharged v8) , and oh so comfortable to drive. Mine is a 2005. List price was $82 k but i bought it for less than you will spend on the challenger new by a long shot. No comparison in quality of car and with a Jag, you will be one of a few instead of one of many. As far as a truck, I would consider the new Ford F series CNG/LNG coming out soon. You can fuel it (natural gas) for about half the price of diesel or gasoline. It will burn n gas or gasoline. Just remember, a sports car will take you someplaces but a truck will take you just about anywhere you want to go. If you can't have both like me, go for the truck!

What would some good suggestions for owning your first sports car?

Vidal

I'm thinking about buying my first sports car since I want to drive something a bit more flashy and more personal than my SUV that I've had for a pretty long time now. Are there any suggestions on what would be a good first sports car? As obviously stated before, I've own a vehicle. I just had my SUV since I lived in Massachusetts and now that I live in South Carolina, I want something a bit more edgey to drive in the summer when I head to other states and beaches. Thank for the suggestions and serious inquiries only!

Answer
There is a large range of sports cars available to you. I'll mostly deal with new cars because used car markets vary from place to place and its quite difficult to tell what is good and what isn't.
on the entry level range you have cars in the 27-35k price range which include Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, Hyundai Genesis 2.0T, Chevrolet Camaro V6, Ford Mustang V6, Mazda MX-5 Miata.

The Japanese cars (scion/subaru, mazda) don't have much horsepower but have a very low weight and balance that provides great handling.
The American cars have great horsepower but their heavier weights and somewhat aged suspension technology on the mustang mean that they wont be as good on a racetrack but they can be great fun on the road and empty parking lots.
The Hyundai I've found to be a nice split in between the 2 classes with a bit of lean towards the Japanese style preferring low weight and balance rather than brute power.

In the middle of the range you have cars like an upgraded engine Mustang, Camaro, Genesis, Nissan 370Z, Chevrolet Corvette, Porsche Cayman, Porsche Boxter, Audi TT, BMW Z4.

On the high end you have Porsche 911s, Nissan GT-R, Audi R8 4.2L V8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Corvette ZR1, Dodge Viper, Jaguar XKR-S, BMW M3, Mercedes C63 AMG, Audi RS5, Lotus Evora.

on the supercar range (though I doubt you are interested) there is the Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 458 Italia, Mclaren MP4-12C, Mercedes SLS AMG, Aston Martin Vanquish, Lotus Exige S

Above entry level and mid ranges, cars focus more on balance than specs like power or weight as a priority. for example, look at Lotus Exige which uses its low weight to make the most of it's non impressive small and not very powerful engine to accelerate as fast as a much larger engined Audi R8.

Each car in any range has it's unique features and you should examine your lifestyle and what you want from your car to make a choice. If you like to show off or be flashy think about a convertible option.
If you like to just have fun like drag racing or doing donuts in an empty parking lot look for a car that values horsepower over weight. Avoid cars with all wheel drive as they require dangerous speeds to slide around and have fun in.
If you like sporty handling look for a car with a low weight and even weight distribution between the front and rear of the car with a sport tuned suspension. cars with all wheel drive have very good drive balances with little understeer and oversteer for a very good racetrack experience.
Remember that the higher level of sportiness the more uncomfortable the car will be as those cars have extra stiff suspensions to keep the car flat while cornering.
It's always a good idea to test drive every car in the price range you are looking at. Be sure to explore all aspects of a car before making your choice, it would be a shame if you have to get rid of your car because of something you didn't think about when buying.

What is a good looking sports car with good mileage?

Nazar Stel

I am 16 and I am looking to find a car that is fuel efficient, looks nice (sports car sudan), and is affordable. I have looked at a Mazda rx8 but it seems with the rotory engine that would give me more problems than I would like. I have also looked at the ford mustang as well as other types of sports cars but I need better gas mileage.

P.S. Im not a big fan hatchbacks or convertibles. If i had to choose between the two I would choose the convertible though.

Answer
I don't have a lot of knowledge about other cars other than the ones I have owned.

I had a 2006 Mustang GT. It had the tested and true 4.6L V8.

I put over 120k miles on that car with no issues. Reliable and fun. It got 23-24 on the hwy, and about 17 in the city. The new 5.0 mustang 2011-2012 gets even better gas mileage and more power!

I would imagine that the new Camaro is just as solid with its dependable motor. But I am pretty sure its gas mileage is not as good.

What the gas mileage for an 8-cylinder sports car such as this?

Q. A 2002 Camaro Z28 with an 5.7 liter LSI 305 HP engine?

I'm looking to get an 8-cylinder sports car, but I hope that it's gas mileage is not a bad 18 MPG for the highway. I hope it's at least 25 MPG for the highway or so.

Answer
You could get even higher than 30 mpg in that car. At least on a cross country trip with cruise control on.

I got 29 mpg in my 95 Camaro Z28, which has a similar V8 engine that gets worse miles per gallon.

Really depends how you drive it though, how many hills you have, type of tires, general tune up condition and about 99999999999999999999 different things.

Is your faith in capitalism the reason you can't use numbers?

Answer
Their faith in capitalism comes from decades of propaganda telling them that Capitalism is awesome and Socialism is bad.

It's not about maths or the good of the people but just years of brainwashing that makes them think being ripped off is good

@RVP: because American corporations haven't been 'bailed out' by the governement lately. Get your facts right.
" it is the policy of the US government to protect the biggest American companies responsible for transportation (airliners, petrol companies, etc.) from failure through subsidies and low-interest loans. "
Companies that have been bailed out include: Bank of America, General Motors Corporation, Chrysler LLC, Citigroup Inc, American International Group, Inc, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.

Sure Greece screwed up, so did all the companies I just mentioned, same thing!

Ok: He is an example of how the Australian system of Health care works: Everyone puts in some money each year (couple hundred bucks) and they if they get hurt (sport, car accident, stupididty) they can go to the hospital to get fixed up for free.
In America, unless you have health insurance (which is more then a couple hundred bucks mind you, or it's covered by work) you're pretty much stuffed

heres something to consider: Is healthcare a right? or a privlage?
If it's a right, it is the governments job to ensure that everyone has access to it.
If it is a privlage then only those that can afford it can get it.

In Australia and other socialist countries, it's a right. What about you America?

You guys hate socialism so much, but you already take part in it on some level, your taxes fund government spending, the government provides services and bails out big companies.

Here in Australia we have both capialism and socialism. The governement looks after some things and others are left for the capitalist companies. Basically essentials are socialism and luxury goods are capitalism.

Works great for us, and it can for America too, if you stop and think about it.
