I want an american car.. preferably GM. What are good sports cars other the the Camaro? Im not looking to buy a brand new one. Ford or any other american car business works too though.

Answer
are your parents rich? if so, then a sports car would be fine. and just fyi, don't buy GM, they're prolly the worse car makers in the world. if you buy anything with a GM motor in it, it WILL break after 4 months. I have tested this, and it is confirmed.

If you want to not look like a spoiled brat, get an older muscle/sporty car. Like a 1994 camaro, or a 1990 firebird. heck, even a 1976 corvette would do you well. you most likely won't find one of these running, so put a v8 big block in and listen to it purr. If you do end up with one of these, make sure you bring it to races and car shows, or it'll be a waste.

If you want to look like a spoiled brat, get any year 2000+ car you see and like the look of. Don't even ask what motor and parts are in it, since you're not paying for it, why would you care. My personally recomendations for the spoiled brat car is 2010 integra, 2009 ferrario, lambourginis, etc.

good luck

Why are there no cheap sports cars?

vincent_va

I've always wondered. The actual appearance of a sports car comes from the chassis, but that's just plastic and metal, and not particularly expensive. It's the engine and the performance that costs money and makes sports cars so expensive.
But since people seem to like sports cars, why don't car manufacturers just slap a sports car chassis onto a regular car? It would look like a ferrari or lamborghini or whatever you want, but it's really just a Volvo C30.

It's not like it actually matters whether or not the car can go 300 Km/h or not, since no one ever drives that fast anyway.

Answer
>Why are there no cheap sports cars?

Define cheap ? You can find "sports cars" that start around or even under the $20k mark new (and go way up from there).

>...but that's just plastic and metal, and not particularly expensive...

So, by that logic, wouldn't the engine (and everything else) be cheap too? I mean, it's all pretty much just metal? The chassis IS the car. Developing a chassis that is capable of high performance and then manufacturing it is the majority of the cost of a car. The engine and everything else is often the cheap bits (relatively). The cost of the raw materials has little to do with the cost of the final work (the engineering, custom fabrication, etc. is the cost). You could put a Ferrari engine, brakes, etc in that Volvo C30, and it wouldn't come close to the performance of the Ferrari around a track. Those parts are important, but not as important as the chassis itself (it's balance, rigidity, layout, etc); and in a high end sports car, it's designed to work in concert with the other components.

> just slap a sports car chassis onto a regular car?

Manufacturers have, since the earliest days of car production, copied styling elements from race and sports cars on to other cars (do you really think those Honda Civics need those spoilers? Or those brake ducts that don't actually feed air to the brakes on some cars?). That's not the chassis though... just body panels and styling. But since the form of a car often follows it's function, designing a car that is usable for daily commutes and seats four, is available for a low cost (and therefore using off the shelf, not custom made parts) will compromise what is possible.

Best beginner bartending recipe books?

Bartender. Bartender. Bartender. Bartending help needed! Bartending advice needed!

I am new to bartending. I have been doing it for about 3 months total, off and on. I would like to be more acquainted with what people order most of and the drinks that are frequently made. What glasses are which..how to correctly set up a bar and etc. I am looking to buy some books that will help me become more knowledgable in these areas. My main focus is drinks..but the other stuff (getting to know it all) would be an extra bonus.

Answer
I've been bartending for 6yrs and the best knowledge you will get will be through experience. Also there are millions of drinks and millions of variations..so it is best to learn how the bar youre working at likes it done or figure out what u think taste the best if you have that luxury. Bartending For Dummys is cheap and can offer a pretty good starter guide...Another person suggested Mr Boston's guide , its ok but I think there are better out there and while I think it would be worth ur while to read whatever u can and i think this one can be helpful with a variety of info , like glass types as well as recipes and terms you should be cautious not to study too many outdated drink recipes , I find this book holds a lot of older drinks no one ever orders anymore and leaves out a lot of popular drink s or shooters for example that are helpful to know . You should think about purchasing The Worlds Best Bartenders Guide... That would be very useful for you. Also here is some of my advice : You can honestly find soo much information online ! And for free! Google recipes for Cosmopolitan, Old Fashioned, Bloody Mary, Sea Breeze, Bay Breeze, pina colada, strawberry daquiri, mudslide, white russian,Manhattan, Long Island, rob roy, irish coffee, irish car bomb, basic gin martini, vodka martini (also the differences between dry, dirty, perfect , sweet). Cape cod, ice pick, Appletini, gimlet, gibson, lemon drop, dream sicle, Cuba libre, these are some good basic pretty popular drinks, but its really gonna depend on ur clientale(these are all good to know tho) another big deal will be to familiarize urself with liquors , I can't tell u how bad it is when a bartender or server doesn't know what a single malt scotch is or that there is such thing as a Red Zinfandel and not just a white, you will have customers ask what kind of bourbon do you carry or what kind of whiskey you need to be familiar with what's what and what ur working with . It is also important to know the difference between on the rocks, up, neat, etc terms mean.... And honestly these are all things you can research online......As well as any other bar terms or info you might be curious about !!

What is the fastest (0-60) automatic production/stock/unmodified street vehicle in the world at any time AND currently in production.

Answer
currently in production is difficult because exotics like bugatti, koenigsegg, pagani and similar cars are most often made for a specific order.
the bugatti veyron super sport is the fastest production road car ever made however all 30 have been made and many have been sold. you can still buy them however its not really in production. the koenigsegg agera r is currently in production and is faster than a regular veyron however you need to order one, you can't just go into a dealership have one shipped to you and go.

I want to lauch faster with my triptronic car?

I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT automatic with the triptronic(sport mode). With out sport mode the car goes 0-60 in about 6 seconds. In sport mode about 8 seconds. I may be launching bad in sport mode that is why I am here. I want to know any advice on how to launch faster, and reach 60 mph faster while in sport mode?

Answer
Buy a stopwatch.

You'd be lucky to get a GTS auto from 0-60mph in under 7 seconds, let alone a GT. And that is regardless of what "mode" it's in.

Answer
Nissan Pulsar. You probably won't find one though.

look for a Toyota MR2. or a Pontiac Fiero. both are cool sports cars from the 90's.

What kind of car could i get with good gas mileage that i like?

puppycutie

I like cadillac escalades but they have horrible gas mileage and what is a car like that with better mileage..i also like mustangs and sports cars like that

Answer
Hybrid cadi Escalade, it gets 23 hwy and 20 in town! MSRP: $74,135... Which is $10,000 more than the non hybrid version so even though it gets better gas milage you don't save a ton because of the increased cost. But it does get much improved gas milage over the non-hybrid version. Another con is that the hybrid engine parts are expensive to fix! More cost, just my two cents.

I'm getting ready to buy a car. i have three options which are the 2008 Acura TL Type-S, 2009-2010 BMW 5 series which would be either the 530i or 535i, and the last one is the Audi A5 3.2. How reliable are this car that i have in mind? How much of maintenance would it be and coast price? How good are the engines?

Answer
Choice is yours...

The Acura will be more reliable than BMW and Audi.
The Audi is more luxurious than BMW and Acura
The Audi might be more comfortable than Acura and BMW.
The BMW and Acura are both sporty because they both have suspension/chassis tuned for handling and YES even the Acura (since its a Type S) can handle for a FWD.
The Acura and Audi are front wheel drive while the BMW is rear wheel drive.
They all will drink premium fuel.
Acura might be the cheapest in terms of maintenance. After 70K+, I would be afraid to own a German car because you never know what could go wrong.
The Acura might have higher insurance cost because its a Type S, a performance car. Under insurance eyes it is considered as a sports luxury car.

Good Luck!

Why are American cars so great?

Kanye

Just the sound of the engine revving, the style of old muscle cars. Sure Japanese n Italians are faster. But most people can afford around 70k and under for a car. But still, challengers, mustangs, corvettes, camaros. All sexy cars. I would rather have a muscle car than a jdm car that sounds like a over powered lawn mower. Don't get me wrong I love a supra or skyline. But American cars are better. Oh and I love Lexus but that's for luxury mostly. But yea American cars are bad***. And don't say they break down faster they don't. Take care of it and you'll have it for a really long time

Answer
Dude..people have different opinions! some might love the sound of roaring V8, but for me and alot others, wouldn't exchange the sound of a spooling turbo for anything in the world!!! Just listen to a turbo whirring, then the sound of the blow off valve going "tssssssss"! For me personally, i look at V8s as crappy gas wasters...i would never buy an american..they're all crappy (corvettes are an exception). Plus, cars such as Supras, Skylines, RX7s, Evos, STIs will are and will always be legends!! Cant even compare an american to a japanese!

* What is the Fastest but safest Route from Chicago, Illinois to Seattle, Washington...?

Thomas

- I drive a V8 rear wheel drive sports car with low-profile tires that have the worst snow traction known to man.
- Im actually in Rockford Il. which is really close to Chicago and actually going to Everett, Wa. which is really close to Seattle.
- I'm just trying to get a route that gets me there in about 4 days but allows my car to stay on the road... any help or ideas will be greatly appericaited.

Answer
I would suggest just getting on I-90 and going West. That highway goes all the way to Seattle, in more or less a straight line. The interstate will be plowed better than the minor roads, and if you wanted to go farther South to avoid snow, you'd add way, way too much distance to your trip.

Or you could just fly...much faster, and cheaper overall if you include the cost of wear and tear on your vehicle and if you're going alone.

What is a good Car Driving simulator?

John Doe

Is there any car driving simulators that have all these

-Open World like GTA
-Selectable cars ranging from average cars like a Subaru outback or a Hyundai Elantra to sports cars like Lamborghini's and Ferraris
-It's can't have any sort of missions or time limits.

Answer
I recommend Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli; HOWEVER, in games with open worlds, people tend to pay more attention to world instead of car mechanism and dynamism.

In Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli, the car dynamism and handling is simply PERFECT! It is such a hard game that, in tutorial mode, getting an apex accuracy over 80% is the hardest thing in the game.
There is a drawback, though. There are only Ferraris in the game.
No time limits or missions. You choose where to race, what to race with.

Another recommendation goes with GT5: Prologue. It is a GREAT simulation game with GREAT graphics and gameplay.

You can find more info and gameplay videos about them on IGN and YouTube.

I know there are foam block setups for kayaks and canoes and stuff, I just wondering if anyone ever did it with a snowboard and where to buy some of that foam? Can you get it at a hardware store or something?

Answer
Get a car and get started. One place to start is with "Rally Cross". There are more then likely several run in Texas. Your local SCCA section should have classes starting up for drivers. Also consider this sport takes two in the car, so maybe hook up with some one as a navigator.

Good luck!

Which make of cars are cheap to insure?

cactuswolf

I'm planning on getting a new car but which car manufacturers make cars that are cheap on insurance? It seems Honda is on the higher side, but I was looking at Mitsubishi and theirs seems pretty low, and Mitsu is the one I was going to go with to begin with. Any suggestions? Assume it's just a normal non-sports car.

Answer
Most insurance companies rank every make/model of car with a number system and the higher the number rank of the car, the higher the insurance will be. The ranking number can go up depending on things such as how much that make/model is stolen or broken into and how safe they are if a wreck were to occur. your zip code also has a lot to do with the ranking. Also the newer your car is the more expensive the insurance will be. I don't know that there is a specific manufacturer who is cheaper than the other. I think it comes down to model more than make. I hope this helps

Is it true a Jetta requires a lot of repairs?

luxury cars under 60k image

cpuvvada

I'm thinking about buying a Jetta. I really liked the car during the test drive but I was told by a relative that Jettas require a lot of expensive repairs compared to similar cars.

PLEASE DON'T ANSWER UNLESS YOU'VE OWNED A JETTA FOR AT LEAST 15 MONTHS!

Answer
You have to buy the right kind of jetta. I know it sounds odd, but I was dead set on a 2001 - 2004 vr6 manual trans Jetta. Those were the ones that had the fewest problems when I worked at Vw as a tech. I love my car, 136k miles and I have only replaced the drive belt tensioner, the thermostat housing, airflow sensor and a ton of turn signal bulbs. It drives as strong as ever. I live in Florida and climate does have a lot to do with electrical reliability. I suggest you ask around in your area about jetta's reliability.

Rule #1, never buy a German automatic vehicle under $60k - especially fwd. Many 'cheap' german car atx's are recycled GM's and Borg Warners and such that can't take the heat german cars are known to produce causing premature failure. Ever feel the force of an Audi A8 W12 cooling fan? It wants to suck you into the engine bay - all that to cool the engine.

Rule #2, never buy a German turbocharged 4 cylinder vehicle. All turbo cars will meet an early grave. A turbo is a cheap way to boost power and keep fuel efficiency - at the scarifice of engine life and it makes even more damaging heat. The turbo will go right after your warranty runs out - convenient.

Rule #3, Never buy the cheapest model / trim. It is cheap for a reason, Go mid priced on the mechanicals and skimp on the luxuries and you should be pleased with the results.

This is just my opinion based off what I've seen. I also have a 95 4 cylinder 5 spd with 230k miles on it. Original clutch! (no, just kidding) It is starting to become troublesome now, but I love that car still.

You also have to stay on top of the oil changes especially on these aluminum engines. The old iron block engines can throw connection rods for days and still be rebuildable. On an aluminum engine, a few missed oil changes will cause the engine to cannibalize itself (really small oil passages that easily get clogged with sludge hence the 0w40 spec oils and such ) and leave you with an $8000 repair bill. I see it all the time.

is buying a car with a lot of miles bad?

audrey

im 16 and looking to buy a car. i have to get a cheap one (about $10,000 and under) and every car that i look at has a lot of miles
does that really matter? and if so what happens with a car with a lot of miles?
like 90k miles - 150k.

Answer
Not really sure what you're looking for. I was looking a week ago and saw an Audi A4 with 60K miles for 10K listed locally. Great deals like that come along, just watch and jump. I'm sure you'll be able to find something good.
If you're looking for something japanese, look at Nissan and Mitsubishi. They have the same qualities and appeal as Toyota and Honda, but they are less well known so you get a better deal.
Hyundai and Kia make very good, cheap cars.
However, I think the best deals in used cars are from the European luxury makes. You can have an Audi or Mercedes for the same price as a Camry. I think it's a no-brainer.
Cars.com, Autotrader.com, and Craigslist have tons of listing, so use them all

an auto will shift faster and with most sports cars they have sports/race mode on the transition and some kind of manumatic control to shift. a torque converter will also last alot longer than a clutch/flywheel.

i get what u mean about 6 cylinders for most of them (especially NA v6 engines) they are junk performance wise, but on the same hand most v8 have bad fuel economy in comparison and a NA 4 banger wont handle a large car but there are good 6 cylinders like the 3-4L straight 6 from BMW or the eco boost fords

Well, if you don't want a sports car, then you should look at the basics. Try a 2005 and up Mazda 3, 2000 and up Toyota Camry, or even a nice 2004 + up Honda Accord. My pick is the 2007 Hyundai Sonata, because it has a V6, good fuel- efficeincy, and it's in your price range.

My school has current events quizzes, so I need to know 20 news events that happened over the summer. Please no celebrity news. Not to much sports, but some. Political is the best. Both national and international.

Answer
1. Ted Kennedy's death,

2.Michael Jackson's, even though you said no celebrity, that was big news.

3.The fact Jackson's doctor was giving him anesthesia in his house but no surgery, sorry, but news.

4.North Korea was threatening to shoot missiles at the US on the 4th of July, but didn't.

5.Swine flu is still around and has killed a few hundred people and they think it could come back.

6. President Obama's health care plan has not passed, many are for and against it.

7. St. Louis Cardinals are 9 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the National league Central Division (sorry but could not resist that)

8. A girl kidnapped 18 years ago was found today (August 27) and apparently had 2 kids by her kidnapper.

Sorry, that's all I can come up with. Good luck

Look in Wikipedia under 2009. They have a month by month review of the year. See if there is anything you can use. One big one I forgot was

9. the Air France crash in the Atlantic off Brazil

10. The collision of a plane and helicopter over the Hudson River, killing all on board both. Close to where the plane safely went down in January.

11. Protests about President Obama's health care plan, related to #6. Senators and Congressmen and women are being booed at Town Hall meetings.

12. Weird weather all over. Droughts in Texas, too much rain in the Northeast; cool weather in the midwest in July and August, hot, dry weather in normally cool, wet Northwestern US.

13. Wild fires in California

14. Nearly total economic collapse in California's government and in other state, and local governments.

15. Car companies going bankrupt, Chrysler, GM

16. Cash for clunkers, people turn in old, gas guzzlers for new cars with a $4500 or so rebate. Old cars are destroyed completely.

I have Hyperpigmentation on my neck and collarbone area. How?what can I do to reverse this effect?

CJ

I play sports and spend a lot of time in hot rays for a number of area.. and I'm "light skin" so the damage will be done. My neck has certain black areas that are disturbing. What creams can I find that are the best at Walgreen, Rite Aid, Walmart, or K-Mart to help the best?

Answer
Your tan will fade after several months even years, depends how old you are now. I was a vendor outside, sitting only in the shade, until a car parked in front of me, the glass reflecting right @ me, during sunset, caused my chest to tan (not burn) and discolored, for about 3 weeks. Use a wash cloth to exfoliate, allowing new skin to take over, when you take a shower and use bath & body wash.

I've been protecting myself from the sun since I was 9.

1. Because I don't want to look like a farmer.
2. Because I get too hot.
3. I want to look like movie stars & models, they have blemish-free skins.
4. I don't want to look like an old prune or get moles on my neck & face like my aunts.

No matter, I still got Discoid Lupus (Google it), caused from the sun. It took 12 years for them to fade. Tried all kinds of lotions that were prescribed to me, and none of them worked. More & more now I protect myself and I take my wide brim hat everywhere I go, or use an umbrella. Floppy hats are back in style. In Asia, they use umbrella all the time. Here in the States, people started to catch on, and I see people walking w/umbrella, they are used on the beach, and they sell patio umbrellas. It was invented for a reason and also to protect us from getting skin cancer. Wear long jackets, or denim a lot. Even inside a car, the heat alone from the sun can tan anyone.

RE SKIN LIGHTENING:
The FDA have banned 23 more whitening products. Google it. About 17,600,000 results.
The reason cited for the proposed ban is that studies in rodents show "some evidence" that hydroquinone may act as a carcinogen or cancer-causing chemical, although its cancer-causing properties have yet to be proved in humans. Hydroquinone also has been linked with the medical condition known as ochronosis in which the skin becomes dark and thick. Dome-shaped yellowish spots and grayish-brown spots also are observed in ochronosis among black women and men in South Africa, Britain, and the U.S. Ochronosis has been observed in conjunction with hydroquinone use even in persons who have used hydroquinone-containing cosmetics for a short time. Some studies also report abnormal function of the adrenal glands and high levels of mercury in people who have used hydroquinone-containing cosmetics. For these reasons, hydroquinone has already been banned in Japan, the European Union, and Australia. Including BB creams.

Any skin-lightening products containing hydroquinone would be considered new drugs, according to the proposed FDA regulations. The products would require FDA approval before being sold to the public and would only be available with a doctor's prescription.

I am looking at purchasing a '05 Lexus SC430 with only 18k miles from a private dealership that specializes in high-end pre-owned vehicles. I have run a CarFax Report and it seems that everything checks out so far. The factory warranty expired last month (it was 4 years or 50k miles). I have heard horror stories about purchasing 3rd party warranties. What the best way to approach this?

Answer
You couldnât have picked a better time to buy! Car sales are off as much as 60%
in most areas and car dealers are doing whatever it takes to move inventory. This works
heavily in your favor. If you plan on purchasing your car from a franchise dealer I would strongly recommend you purchase your warranty from them. It will be the best product
to meet your needs and the service can be done at that dealership.

But here is the best part! Because dealers are doing whatever it takes to move inventory
they are willing to negotiate on just about anything. I strongly encourage you to start the
negotiation process out by phone. One of the deal breakers for you is for them to
sell you a warranty at cost. Donât give on the price of the car either. A warranty is an aftermarket item and if the dealer has to give it away at cost to get the sale they will
do it 90% of the time. Now to be kind you might offer to pay $150 over cost. This
will ensure that the Finance Manager at least makes something for his/her time.

Although there is no easy way around the hard cost for a warranty on a Lexus, you could
still save well over $1,000. Go for it!

Cheers!

Can you help me choose a car?

Q. Hello everyone. I need your help.

I am imminent to purchase a new car. This time I am looking for something inestimably expensive. While it is true 50K is not all that expensive, it is compared to 10K. Theyâre two specific cars that giving me a complicated time choosing between the both ( Mercedes Benz and BMW)

While many females fancy sport model cars, Iâm an uniquely fashioned individual that enthuses Luxury Model cars. 4 Doors and enormous room space inside. Iâll be souping up the car a little, like add Head-Rest LCDs and music sound system, and certainly 20"s chrome rims. My favorite colors are White and Black.

The Mercedes E 350 is what I am considering and the 535i BMW. Both 2008 year.

Now, can you help me make a decision?

Thank you for participating in my question today. Most appreciated.

Answer
There is nothing quite like the engine of the new 535i. It is so powerful, and sings a great song when you give it gas. While the E class is a very nice car, it won't give you the feeling that the 535i will provide. Go with the BMW you will not be dissapointed.
