A good/luxury car you'd want?

Lindsay

I'm awesome friends with my crush, because our dads work together in a car company or something. Were both interested in cars, and like a few hours ago I was at his house and he asked me if I could wish any car in the world for my 16th birthday what would be? I told him, I'll think about it and text him later. The funny thing is...I hardly know anything about car brands! I know what cars are made of and how do they work, but nothing about that topic. What is your favorite car?

Answer
Well if you are wishing for anything, there are numerous sports cars. You could go obvious with the Ferrari or Lamborgini, but I personally prefer lesser known brands like Massarati, Bugatti, or Austin Martin. You could also go even more exotic with the Coneseg CCX or cars of the like. Simply search google images for any of the brands listed and you will see quite a few, really nice looking cars.

Under $10k my favorite car is the Mitsubishi Spyder GT. Under $30k its the BMW Z4. Under $100k its the BMW M3 Convertible. Under $200k its the Corvette ZR1 (750+ horsepower). Under $500k, there are so many like the Austin Martin DB9 or Ferrari California. For $2mil, its gotta be the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport which holds the worlds fastest production car record of 268 mph.

Are Car Dealerships allowed to sell cars with oil leaks?

TheRealCP1

I'm going to an infiniti dealership today to check out a 2007 Scion TC with 85,000 miles. I was just wondering, are car dealerships allowed to sell cars with oil leaks or do they have to fix them? The reason I'm asking is because a few weeks ago, my parents traded in their 1997 Mitsubishi Montero (106,000 Miles) for a New 2012 Toyota Rav4. They got $3,000 trade in value for the Mitsubishi. We had no accidents or anything but my parents did mention to the salesman that there was a leak and the oil had to be refilled every 2 weeks. To my parents surprise, the salesman said "Don't worry about it. I'm not even going to mention it." Now my mom and I are both skeptical that we're going to buy a Scion TC with an oil leak. We don't have the luxury of a mechanic coming with us to check out the car.
To Rob R - You wanna know who wants to buy a 97 Montero? The guy who went to buy it a week after we sold it to them. They priced it at $3500 and was gone in a week. That thing was clean and taken care of well so kiss my ass. Any car can have an oil leak, that's why I'm asking the question. That was a stupid answer. My know multiple people who would buy a car from 1997 especially if they need it.

Answer
well... I actually work as a mechanic for a B.M.W. dealership and when we have a car with a leak that is traded in, if it is easily fixed then it will be fixed and sold. If it is a car that needs more work that it is worth and the dealer wont recuperate the money for the repairs, they sell it at auction. You may not have a luxury of having a mechanic with you, but just look around in the engine area for wet spots, also spots that are dirty that dust or debris have attached to the surface because of oil residue.

Can anyone test drive luxury cars?

Shawn S

Are there requirments you have to meet to be able to test drive a luxury car from a dealership?

Answer
It depends on the dealership and their rules. Your age may play a factor, but that's because it can mess up the insurance coverage if you get into an accident while test driving. In addition, they might pre-qualify you depending on which car you are looking to buy. Don't expect to be able to drive a BMW M5 or a 2009 CTS-V without getting a bank approval.

The economy has hurt the car business just has it to millions of other people, so if you are serious about buying, then they will be serious about selling. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Used sports car for under 30k?

Scott

I am looking for an insane used sports car to buy with my own money and my budget is $30,000. I am looking for very sporty cars that also contain some luxury. Im talking about BMW M3s, BMW M5s and Mercedes CL55 AMG. Those are some of the cars on my list already along with a 2008 Shelby GT500. Anyone with ideas for cars that fit that criteria please suggest them! Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Just keep in mind- I do not want a Subaru Impreza WRX or something like that that offers "good performance for a fair price". As I said before I'm talking about cars that are filled with HP and look cool inside and out. I have lots of money to spend on repairs and maintenance so that stuff is not relative. Thank you everyone!

Go for Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercedes or Infinity.

Lexus needs to be placed somewhere below a Yugo.

what cars will fit downtown chicago?

bia bia

Im moving to chicago for college and looking to get a new car. I want something along the lines with horsepower and speed. Im used to driving a 06 charger srt8. I would prefer a 2 door sports car, (infiniti, bmw, lancer, honda, challenger, 2011charger) Would the challengers be able to fit in tight parking spots too?

Answer
You are going to need a small car. There parking spots are barley hitiing each other. Don't get a manual becaise there is a lot of trafic. Don't get anything that is tooo attractive because the gangmember will mess with it and steal things of it or even jack it.

Affordable car?

FGT

I'll be turning 16 in a few weeks and my parents agreed to buy me a car as long as it's under $5500. Where can I find a decent car? Any good websites?

I live in the Chicago land area, if that helps.

Answer
Well since it's going to be a sed car, i would suggest that you get a Japanese car like a Honda, Acura or Nissan. They last almost forever and are very reliable.

Get a Honda Accord or a Civic because they have great gas mileage, runs great even if on high miles.

Or get an Acura Integra (LS, GS, GS-R) because they look really good, and the 98-01 models are the best. Acura is made by Honda so the engine will last almost forever if you take good care of it. They're good in miles, and the GS and GS-R models have leather.

Nissans are great cars, but they're kind of expensive. I would get the Nissan 300ZX because it's a sports car that you can afford. It looks awesome, and it's known as the Devil Z. Great car if you like speed and all that. Not so great if you can't afford gas because it runs on premium.

Overall, i would get the acura integra, so consider one as your car.

was the atlanta race deja vu for junior?

know it al

did juniors' run at atlanta remind anyone else of daytona? he was 27th at the start of the first green/white/checkered, and 20th at the white flag.

now i've already been reading on YA today how hater nation is saying "he got lucky" because everyone in front of him crashed, but yet he passed 5 cars on the last lap that were NOT involved in crashes, including jeff gordon and jeff burton.

this was just eerily similar to daytona, when he was 16th at the start of the first green/white/ checkered and finished 2nd.

oh, but of course he wouldn't have been able to do this if NASCAR hadn't cheated for him.
i also love how hater nation has been saying "he sucked all day", when actually he ran in the top 5 for the first hundred laps of the race before an unscheduled pit stop trapped him 2 laps down.
where'd kyle finish again, johnf?

BRAIN: if a 15th place finish is typical for junior, how could it be way above his average, you're contradicting yourself moron.

Answer
I can relate how he passed some car's and 'got lucky' by other car's crashing in front of him, but...there's no *astericks* in the Nascar record books like other sports. He finished 15th. Period. Maybe those guy's shouldn't have crashed! If Junior was in the crash the haters would be like ha ha he crashed he sux! No matters what happens, haters will always have an angle.

I'm going to Atlanta for the NASCAR race on Labor Day weekend. Where are the best bars and restaurants in Atl?

Tom H

Any good NASCAR sports bars? And/or happening neighborhoods in the city and surrounding areas?

Answer
Well, I am guessing it is at the Atlanta Motor Speedway which is about 20 miles South of Atlanta....

So unless you want to drive all the way to Atlanta, here is a good place

Finish Line Cafeâ - Atmosphere is good and so is the food. Geared toward Nascar fans and just a fun place to have a good meal and talk to fellow race car fans

What is a good sports car around 10k?

Jacob Mart

I'm 17 and I'll be leaving for college after this year and I drive a 1999 ford ranger... I'm going to be getting a new car for college and I really want a sports car. I really like the Subaru WRX but I think it will cost too much. What about camarro mustang 350z? What is a good alternative sports car for around 10k?

Answer
Like the above person said those aren't really sports cars. But 10K can get you a lot of much more interesting real sports cars.
Such as these
The second generation toyota mr2 1989-1999
An early 1980s to 90s Lotus esprit s2 or s3
A pontiac fiero
A chevy corvette c4 1984-1989
An older honda s2000 1999 to 2003
A mitsubishi 3000 gt
A dodge stealth
or even a early 2000s porsche boxster

Of these the lotus is the most exotic, to people who don't know cars it could pass for a lamborghini. And with a top speed of 170 and a 0-60 time of 4.5 or so it drives almost like one too.
Also the more exotic cars on this list, the corvette the lotus etc, were likely somebodys second car, so most for sale will have under 50,000 miles.

looking for a good fast sports car?

Xaviar Man

under 6k? no earlier than 1980 used under 75k miles. any suggestions?

Answer
The Porsche 944 is a decent to good older sports car. The 944 varies from 2.7 L to 3.0 L and range from 167 HP to 247 HP depending on the model and make (S, Turbo, Turbo S). You can definitely find one for under 6k. I am not to sure about the mileage, since these cars are from the late 80s to early 90s. Most probably have a considerable amount of mileage, but due to your specifications most of the cars you find will have a good amount of mileage (otherwise they wont be below 6K). Overall the 944 is a great car, and plus its a Porsche and they make reliable cars (I'm not a fan-boy, its a true fact). Hope this helps.

Answer
$25K your looking at $600/month car payments. Insurance on a sports car for a young driver will add another $150 - $300/month.

You should be more concerned with getting to where you need to get safely and economically.

Economical and reliable car?

Contemplat

Subaru, Honda or Toyota or ???? Thanks for your input!
Mostly I would drive it and mostly city and some highway miles.
Also has to be good in snow.

Answer
Honda receives the highest ranking among non-luxury brands in our firm's latest Initial Quality Study, which measures new-vehicle quality after the first 90 days of ownership. Models that are tops in initial quality at the segment level include subcompacts such as the Honda Fit, the Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent. The compact quality leader this year is the Honda Civic, followed by the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra. Among compact crossovers and utilities, which may do well in snowy weather conditions, the Honda CR-V earns the highest ranking followed by the Nissan Xterra and the Hyundai Tucson.

All three of the brands that you mention rank among the top 10 nameplates in terms of dependability on our latest J.D. Power and Associates Vehicle Dependability Study, which measures customer satisfaction with the reliability or dependability of 3-year-old models. Honda in fact ranks in the top five along with two other non-premium brandsâBuick and Mercury. Toyota ranks No. 6 and Subaru, No. 9.

Models that rank at the top of their segments in dependability after three years of ownership include the subcompact Scion xA. The Hyundai Accent and Chevrolet Aveo also rank among the three best compact models in terms of reliability. The three models with the fewest problems in the compact category are the Honda Civic, Toyota Prius Hybrid and Toyota Corolla. If you prefer crossovers or utility vehicles that may be good choices in snow, the most reliable compact models after three years of ownership are the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CR-V and the Honda Element.

Do luxury cars depreciate faster than average cars?

Jason Sant

I am planning to buy a car. Being a business major and being the thrifty person that I am I would never buy a brand new car because once you drive it out the dealership it already depreciated. A one to two year old car is an ideal buy. My economics professor brought up a good point that luxury cars are cheaper to maintain than normal cars. I live in Hawaii which was ranked the worst state to own a car because maintainance is so expensive.

Answer
I would suggest that you use a shopping tool like Yahoo Autos. Just because it is a luxury car does not mean it depreciates less. Some drop in value faster then a lead ball in a clear sky.
I just pulled up a Ford Taurus and a BMW 5 series. Now the 5 series may not be a true luxury car but it is an up scale car. The BMW depreciates almost 30000 dollars (63%) in the first five years, while the Ford only 15000 dollars (48%). Now there may be cars that break this trend'.With the Ford only costing 26600 dollars to begin with is seems that the total cost of the car is almost free when compared to owning a BMW which looses more in depreciation then the Ford costs new.
So do some study, my gut feeling is that it takes a lot of money to buy a car that will keep its resale value up and then it will only be a percentage think. Lets face it, if a car costs 100000 dollars and it only depreciates 10% of its value in a given year, that is still a lot of money!
Sorry, I miss read the question, even if BMW throws in maintanance for free, it takes a lot of maintanance to make up for the extra 15000 dollars worth of loss on depreciation.

How much do you usually spend on buying a new car?

415*

I'm 22 and going to start studying for my license, tired of the muni and spending money on bart. also since I have a toddler it's harder to travle with a stroller and everything else. So, I'm asking how much do people usually spend on a new car? or at least at a place where they sell used cars, that are still good, and worth it?
Of course since I'm a mother I need a safe car, with good air bags, and saftey features. but I'm also into small cars that can at least fit 4 to 5 people, like for example; my favorite types of cars would be between: Toyota Yaris, Ford Focus, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta.. and well, yeah. Those type of small cars, there's others that I was more interested in, but I can't remember the names..

Whenever I see a car commercial, I see the amount you'd pay monthly, plus the amount you need Due at Signing in the fine print of the commercial.. what is the amount you'd pay monthly for? if you pay around $3,000 at signing??

I know a new car is expensive! Would it be cheaper to buy a car from a friend, or someone selling them and have a michanic look at the car to make sure everything is Ok?

- leave tips on buying new car from suspicious dealers, things to look out for, and anything you'd think I should keep an eye out for, and how to make a better deal to fit my budget, money is a bit tight, but I'm able to save $100 a month till I'm at a ok price to get a car..

so, thanks :)

Answer
I have been in your shoes....okay....you are asking a very simple question that has about a billion different answers. first, how is your credit? If you dont have any, you will need a co-signer. A down payment on a car is generally about 10-15% of the sale price. Oh, and those offers on TV----don't listen to them. they DO NOT apply to you. A car payment should be no more than 20% of what you bring in per month. If you make $2000 per month, your payment should not be above $400. Just remember that.

Do your research. Ask family. Do not ask friends, they are just as unknowing as you. Mechanics want you to buy the least reliable car so that they can make money on you later. Maybe a family mechanic would be okay.

Don't buy a car from a mom/pop shop. They will ruin your life. go with a bigger name, like a new car dealer that sells used cars, or Carmax. Don't go to "Jim's Used Car Depot" for instance.

If you go used, invest in Carfax. It is about 30 bucks a month, but it allows you to search VIN's, which is pretty much a car's SSN. Carfax registers accidents, major fixes, smog repairs, insurance claims, owners. All that.

Avoid "prior rentals." As Jeff Foxworthy says, " Buying a rental car is like going to a house of ill-repute lookin for a wife. If something has been driven that hard, for that long, by that many people.....you dont want to be stickin your key in it."

Dont EVER trust a car salesman. If you are not a good negotiator, stay away from the dealership, or bring your dad with you. I was a car salesman, I know. They are up there with Lawyers and thieves.

What I would do is get approved for financing before you go to a dealership. this will prevent you from having to have credit when on the dealership. Talk to banks, and get approved before you step on the dealership. If you step on the lot with "a cash offer", so to speak, it has a very big advantage in getting a lower price for more of a car. It means the dealer won't have to finance you, and credit will not be an issue. If credit IS an issue, they will not make anything available to you until they see your credit. Any questions on that, talk to your folks.

Check fuel mileage, and insurance rates, so there is no surprise. Sports cars cost more in insurance than subcompacts, for instance.

Lastly....test drive everything you are interested in, and use it on the freeway, as well as the city, to make sure you will be comfortable in it. check the safety rating for the back seats of cars (this can be found on IIHS website). Searching for a car is fun, as long as you dont get sucked in.

P.S.----and this is important-----If you buy a car from a private seller, like out of Auto Trader or off of Craigslist, you are buyin the car AS IS. IF THE CAR BLOWS UP 10 MINUTES AFTER YOU BUY, SELLER IS NOT RESPONSIBLE. Dont buy a car that cant pass smog. If you do decide on a car, pay a mechanic 60 bucks to look it over before you sign the pink slip or bill of sale.

Good luck!

What is the average weight of a car?

i need to know what the average weight of a car is, but i don't want any answers that say it differs greatly. there is an average weight to every car on the road.

Answer
Average U.S. Car Is Tipping Scales at 4,000 Pounds
The E.P.A.'s weight statistics show that the average weight of a 2003 car or light-duty truck, like a pickup, sport utility, van or minivan, was heavier than in any model year since 1976, when the average peaked at 4,079 pounds. Just five years later, after the oil shocks of the 1970's, the average had fallen by more than 20 percent, to 3,202 pounds. The figures take into account the sales volumes of different models.

What's a daihatsu sirion 2010 max mileage?

Jonathan

I have a daihatsu sirion from 2010 and I drove about 155000, now im selling it but people ignore because of the high mileage.
What should I tell to the people so they wont be concered of the mileage?

SO WHAT IS THE MAX. MILAGE FOR THIS CAR ???

Answer
Last I heard ( in America anyways ) was the "average miles put on a vehicle per year was about 12 -14,000 a year. You have a car with less then 4 years on it but simple match says 4 times 14,000 = 56,000 for a 4 year old car. Yours is almost 3 times that amount! If you have all the records for the car that show regular oil changes and maintenance that'll help but it still seems high to me and that's what other people are thinking too! Here's a typical list of "averages" but you can call your insurance agent and ask THEM what THEY consider average miles per year.
AgeMaleFemaleTotal
16-198,2066,8737,624
20-3417,97612,00415,098
35-5418,85811,46415,291
55-6415,8597,78011,972
65+10,3044,7857,646
Average16,55010,14213,476
Lastly, I did some research ( and math conversions from Km to miles ) and here's an ad for a car like yours with LESS then 52,000 miles on it for a 2010. Daihatsu Sirion for sale - Cars.co.za (page 2,sorted by price)
www.cars.co.za/searchVehicle.php?make=Daihatsu&model=Sirion...P=1
Daihatsu Sirion for sale ... View Car; Wishlist ; 2010 Daihatsu Sirion 1.5i Sport . 83000 Km, Manual, Petrol, Power Steering., Aircon., Airbag., Manual.
People LOVE low mileage cars. You can either lower the price or trade it IN in something newer. People will always be leary of high mileage cars!! In the old days the odometer could be turned back. I don't recommend that either as it's illegal. Time to trade it in on something newer at a Dealer's. They'll probably take it in as a trade in. Those are your options I'm afraid. Good luck!

Is an acura tsx considered a sports car?

Joseph

i would like to know if it will raise my insurance if it is a sports car.
Year: 2004

Answer
NO

ITs considered as a entry level sports car.

Sports car are Honda Civic Si, Nissan Sentra SER Spec V, Subaru Impreza WRX Sti, Mitsubishi EVO.

thats an entry level sports car along with BMW 3, Audi A4, Merc C class, Lexus IS, Infiniti G.

Now for insurance, Acura TSX insurance will be low among those but high (depending upon where you live)

BMW, Infiniti any with a 6 cylinder engine has high insurance, that also includes Lexus IS300, if you didn't know the IS300 has high er insurance than IS250 (Because IS300 has the supra engine without turbo)

Acura with 2004 should be fine, Acura TSX is a "white man's car" along with BMW.

oh if its a manual then probably yes, (not sure but ask insurance company)

It doesnt have V6 or RWD so it has the lowest insurance but pretty high because its considered as a Luxury car.

An average person 40 years of age would pay almost 1000 for just his car insurance but with a tsx he would pay about 1300+. "Extra Luxury Charge"

Which a a better sports luxary car? Audi a4, Acura tl or Lexus is?

willie

Hey I'm a 25 year manger at a store, I also attend college I live in San diego. I want to know opinions on which car is best suited for luxary and sport out of Audi a4, acura tl an Lexus is models. I want something quick still luxary they you can be proud to drive downtown with. I don't want to do alot of Maintence. Which is better for a kid about to finsh school wants to have luxary sports car?

Answer
Lexus isn't much into performance, sure its a RWD but its not that much of a handler. (I am not abusing lexus but just being factual)

from the three list you gave me, its a good start, but you have to remember that reliability, insurance, tax and fuel cost will change if you get a sports luxury car.

Audi A4, try not to get the turbo ones especially if they're over 60K, turbo will be expensive, normal ones are hard to find. Insurance tax fuel cost and even simple maintenance cost like oil change (synthetic on turbo) will cost you. so be ready for that! Audi has the best interior and is one of the best looking cars on the road today, especially the B7. Their interiors are worth being in one. Audi is overall the fastest one here.

Acura TL, good car but has single cams, not much of a performer and surprisingly the Acura TSX handles better than the TL, (I can imagine because its a midsize thats probably why). Its a honda so everything on this car is cheap. (will cost a bit because Acura is a luxury name)

Lexus IS is a very good car, it rides brilliantly but not much of a handler because of its chassis, its not tuned properly. it is however a RWD so you'll get better handling unlike audi and acura. Again its a toyota, its suppose to be cheap in every way. Lexus is a good looking car, I don't see anything wrong with it and have no complains about it. Don't listen to recalls, they're just discouraging customers to buy GM instead of Japanese cars.

Where can I drive fast with my car legally in Atlanta?

MACBOOK

I got a new fast sport car and just wanted to test it out and see how it feels to go fast with it legally in Georgia? (+130)
I've had some experiences with fast cars and going really fast before but I don't know any public places which I can take my car to go fast with.
Maybe a cheap public race track?
I live in Marietta so please suggest somewhere which is perhaps close to me.
Thank you

Convertible sports cars that I could buy used for a decent price?

BenJammin

I'm look for a good sports convertible that I could buy used for $15,000 or less (give or take, but I'd like to cap it at around that).

So far, the best options I've found have been the Honda S2000, Porsche Boxter S, Toyota MR2, and Nissan 350Z Roadster.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, I live in the Atlanta Georgia area, so if anyone knows of any specific dealers (in the Southeast) that are currently selling what I'm looking for, I would much appreciate the info.

Answer
I would get the 350z or S2000. Both cars have lots of potential and looks very sporty. If you can shell out a bit more, go for an M3 Convertible.

where to find cheap firebird parts?

abinventor

where is the cheapest place to find a rear hatch motor cover and nylon slides for a 1988 firebird formula.

im tryin to fix the rear hatch motor in my car, and i need the clear cover that goes over the gears (the reinforced one if its cheap enough) and the nylon slides that allow the entire thing to move

Answer
The motor will fit a Cadillac or even a lincoln. So I think you'll find that the luxury cars so equipped are scattered all over the junkyard.

Do junkyards ever pay something (or tow for free) non-running cars for the parts?

plattersby

I have a 1984 Lincoln Town Car that hasn't been running for years. The body is good and the interior is somewhat luxury and undamaged. I tried to donate it but charities don't want it because it was always something of a lemon mechanically and is too hard to fix.

Do junkyards ever pay for non-running cars in order to have parts? Or do they ever tow a car at no charge in order to have the parts?

Answer
Try to check out how much the parts cost. Usually old cars are worthless though.

What are some cheap luxury or sport sedan cars for $15k?

lolkitteh

I'm looking for a cheap luxury car a sporty sedan car, or a car with nice horsepower (like a mustang, camaro, etc.). However I have a price limit. Looking for cars that cost $15,000 and under. Help me please! Need a nice list!

Answer
GM Certified has excellent pre-owned vehicles that come with a manufacture warranty, maintenance plan, and other owner benefits. There are a wide range of vehicles available from small cars to larger SUVs. Suggested options are the Buick Lucerne, Chevrolet Cobalt SS, Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Malibu V6. There are Camaros available as well but you would likely have to up your stated price point somewhat. Test drives available. Also check the Spark and Sonic if you're interested in new vehicles. Good luck with your search!

Renting a nice luxury car vs. limo for wedding.....Opinions?

Q. I read in a bridal mag here in Atlanta that you could and will save more money if you rented a nice luxury car as opposed to renting an limo for just a few hours.

By the way, our ceremony and reception will be held at same place.
I was thinking maybe rent a limo to take bridal party to location and rent a nice car to carry my fiance and I away.

I dont know, just give me your opinion on what you have done or thinking about doing. I think my step-dad my rent us a classic rolls royce, which they had at their wedding, but I am thinking where could we all save money. HELP!!
I think that my parents may front the RR rental.. they keep asking me about it. And I think that they have a nice relationship with the company

Answer
if your reception and wedding are at the same place then dont get a limo!! where are you getting ready? if everyone is getting ready at a house and then going to the church then maybe a limo is a nice idea but how is everyone going to get back to their cars??

Answer
For a girl, both cars are fine. But I'm sure you can find nicer cars in your price range. By my observation you live in Georgia so Ive found some luxury cars that you might be paying the same for as the Mustang or the Solara. I'm assuming your price range is $16,000- 17,000 by the price tag of the cars you have shown us so here's a few, hope this helps or at least gives you new ideas.

opinions on the best sports car for under 100K?

Answer
The best sports car under 100k would be a nissan gtr. Its an AWD car which means more grip and faster launches. Its also a nissan. So reliability isnt a concern. Best track car in my opinion. If you want an all around car. Then it would be the Mitsubishi lancer evolution X. Although heavier than previous models, it does handle better and record better times. It is also AWD but is aslo a rally car. It is the best at wat it does. Gravel, Tarmac and Snow. It handles best in different terrains.

Affordable car?

Comparing Seoul with Chicago?

Bluemoon

Hi, I'm a university student and a lifelong Seoul resident.
I'm going to Chicago as an international student next year and I'll be staying there for a year.
Before going there, I want to know general information about Chicago.
These are the things that I would like to hear about Chicago:
1. Safety and Crime rate
2. Environment and Pollution(esp. air pollution)
3. Public Transportation System
4. Living Expenses (except for housing)
5. Friendliness of People(Residents)
6. Weather and Climate
7. Cultural Activities (Clubbing, Parties, Gay Culture)

Is there anyone who has lived in both Seoul and Chicago?
Since I am from Seoul, it would be great if you compare Chicago with Seoul.

Answer
1)
As far as traffic goes, I hate to say this, but I think Chicagoans tend to be slightly more sane than Seoulites when it comes to driving and pedestrian traffic. This is probably due to the fact that Chicago is not as densely populated and does not have the problem of six lanes of traffic.

Regarding crime, Seoul is a relatively safer city than Chicago in terms of crime. But as in any major city, you just have to be aware of your surroundings. Neighborhoods that are under greater socioeconomic stress (and therefore typically linked with higher crime rates) are on the south and west sides of Chicago. Even in those specific areas, I don't think it would be a cause for alarm during the day and near main streets; just be more cautious where you are at night. But there's no guarantee even in the "nicest" neighborhoods. If you are going to be a student, you'll have the added security of the campus community.

2)
Chicago is a relatively cleaner city than Seoul both in air quality and littering. Again, at least part of this has to do with population density.

3)
Chicago does have a subway and bus system. Unfortunately, its subway system is not as extensive as Seoul's or New York City (where I now live). There are some neighborhoods in the Chicago metropolitan area that are more easily accessible by car, e.g., Koreatown, a lot of "young" neighborhoods with hip bars and restaurants north of downtown Chicago, etc. If you can manage the expense of a car, I would recommend it.

4)
In a 2005 CNNmoney.com report, CNN ranked Seoul as the 5th most expensive city in the world whereas Chicago ranked 52. You also have the advantage of a decent exchange rate. 1000 Won = 1.07 USD last I checked.

http://money.cnn.com/2005/06/21/pf/costliest_cities/

5)
It's hard to generalize about an entire city of people, given its diversity, but I would say that Chicagoans are less frantic in nature than New Yorkers or Seoulites. Obviously, depending on the level of education of the person you meet, their knowledge (and acceptance) of foreign cultures will vary. But overall it is a cosmopolitan city, although it doesn't get as much notoriety as other US cities like LA or New York. However, you will find that Chicagoans are very proud of their city.

6)
Chicago has a temperate climate similar to Seoul's except for two major differences. It does not have a monsoon season and it can get much colder in the winter compared to Seoul. The reason is that Chicago is next to Lake Michigan, a freshwater lake, which unlike an ocean or sea, does not provide a warming affect. Wind chill factors make temperatures feel much colder. Incidentally, Chicago's nickname is the "Windy City," although the source of that nickname is under debate, since some say it is a reference to the weather while others say it comes from a historically political context. Bring a hat to protect your ears, and wear layers (coming inside from the cold, some buildings can be very warm). For the summer, don't forget to bring a swimsuit. Chicago's beach front on Lake Michigan is all open to the public and a gorgeous place to exercise or just sun bathe.

7)
Chicago has great parks, great museums, a world class symphony orchestra, a public (free!) zoo within Chicago itself, great theater, great restaurants, great sports teams, great bars and clubs (unfortunately, you'd need a car to get to most, especially for the late hours). Chicago also has Oprah!

Here's a link to check out:
http://www.chicagotraveler.com/guide-to-chicago-things-to-do-summer-1.htm

Chicago has an annual gay pride parade day, but I'm not sure what date it falls. As far as gay culture goes, there is one neighborhood enclave that is specifically gay friendly nicknamed "Boystown" located within the formally named neighborhood of Lakeview. I don't know too much about available activities, but I found this website with gay interest themes relating to Boystown and the rest of Chicago

http://www.boystownchicago.com/

As with any place in the world, depending on whom you meet, people's attitude toward gay culture varies, but from my understanding of Seoul, it is STILL quite difficult to be openly gay there. In that regard, Chicago is probably more progressive.

Anyway, Chicago is a great city, and I think if you keep an open mind and get over the initial culture shock of being in a new country, you'll have a great time.

Do any older muscle/sports/nice cars get good gas mileage?

Spook

Answer
there are several ways to improve the fuel economy of a classic muscle car. if you own one with a manuel trans, switch over to a 5 or 6 speed. or you could slap a gearvendors unit on it. now if you muscle car came with an auto. switch over to an overdrive unit ie(700r4 2004-r) you can also install a gearvendors unit on the manual. also carbs with vacuum secondaries tend to get better MPG. I had a 67 lemans with a 68 pontiac 350 and a 2speed trans with a 3:08 rear end. it got around 14-18 on the high way. had i installed an overdrive trans and a carb with vaccuum secondaries it probabally would have gotten around 20 MPG or more on the highway.

why do people name their kids?

j.cat2122

why do parents name their kids after cars or states?
well poopie kitty--- im glad u picked felix and leah lol. it could have been worse.haha j/k

Answer
Well there's certain states and places worldwide which are also peoples' names or were actually originally named after people to begin with. Georgia (King George), Alexandria (Alexander), Lincoln (Abraham Lincoln), Raleigh I believe is a person's name, as is Charlotte. Athens is named for the goddess Athena, and while Athena makes a good name, Athens, not so much. I agree with you on names like Nashville or California though, those names have no business on babies.

Cars I'm all with you there too. Little boys named Royce and little girls named Mercedes (or better yet, Mersaedeys!) are going to be a total jerk and a stripper, respectively. I generally try not to stereotype peoples' future based on their name, after all I'm a total disproof that names determine what you'll be, but there are only a hand full of people who are douchy enough to name their child after a luxury car, and douchiness is usually passed on. I think they do it in the desperate attempt to make them look like they're upper class, which usually has the opposite effect, because I've never seen or heard of any kid from real wealth called anything like Mercedes, or Benz, or Royce.

Tammy Wynette, who was famous for "Stand by Your Man," had how many husbands?

Austin W

Answer
not as many as Liz Taylor

Aside from her music, Wynette's private life was as tumultuous as many of her songs. Over the course of her life, she had five husbands: Euple Byrd (married 1959âdivorced 1966); Don Chapel (married 1967âannulled 1968); George Jones (married 1969âdivorced 1975); Michael Tomlin (married 1976âannulled 1976); and George Richey (married 1978âher death 1998).

She and Byrd had three children, Gwendolyn Lee ("Gwen") Byrd (born 1961), Jacquelyn Faye ("Jackie") Byrd (born 1962) and Tina Denise Byrd (born 1965), and she and Jones had one child, Tamala Georgette Jones (born 1970).

Tammy had a publicized relationship with actor Burt Reynolds in the 1970s. Her fourth marriage, to Michael Tomlin, lasted only six weeks. She then married George Richey, who became her manager. In 1978, she was mysteriously abducted by a masked man at a Nashville shopping center, driven 80 miles south in her luxury car, beaten and released. No one was ever arrested or identified. Initially, that was the story told to the press by Tammy. Years later, Tammy's daughter, Jackie Daly, alleges that Tammy told her that the kidnapping was a fabricated incident to disguise the fact that George Richey was beating her.

She also had a number of serious physical ailments beginning in the 1970s, including operations on her gall bladder, kidney and on the nodules on her throat.

What's a good car under 25K or 30K for a teen girl going to college? (preferably sports car)?

GlamGurl

A used car or a new car....don't matter as long as it is under 25K or in rare cases where car is exceptionally nice looking i can spend upto 30K...
Rex: Uh.. I am a hard working girl. I get straight A's and I have earned some scholarships. My mom who is a teacher agreed to buy me a 25K or a 30K car seeing that I have enough scholarships and will probably get more from the college I choose to go to. Instead of spending money on college, she decided to get me a car. NOW TO GO TO COLLEGE I HAVE SAVED MONEY (which is not enough but good for personal spending for about 5 months) AND HAVE SCHOLARSHIPS AND EXPECT TO GET MORE WHEN I DECIDE TO SETTLE ON A COLLEGE!
Oh and my dad is a bank manager. We have money but just not to blow away...

Answer
If you are somewhere that gets snow then the Subaru Impreza WRX is a good idea, I don't think the 300 hp Sti is a particularly good idea for most drivers, it also makes it a target for being ripped off. I could buy one myself, but I don't think the additional insurance and attention is worthwhile. A regular WRX is on my shopping list.

The VW GTi (what used to be a Golf GTi) is a good car, they are built in Germany unlike most small VWs now, the 200hp engine is a lot for a small car and their DSG transmission gives you paddle shift gear changes if you don't just want to drive in automatic mode, it's great fun and much better on twisty roads. They'll seat four in comfort and also take a good amount of cargo if you fold the back seats down. 200hp is a lot to put through the front wheels on a wet or icy day.

So that's two fast and practical cars, I think the Gti is built better but the Subaru has more practicality in poor weather. How about a somewhat impractical car?

The Nissan 350Z Enthusiast could be had in my area for $28k, they stick to the road like glue and are ridiculously fast., on the down side they aren't big on practicality. I rent them from Hertz a few times a year.

$30k for a good used sports car? How old? You could get a decent old Porsche for that sort of money. Limiting it to a few years old and under 30,000 miles.

You should be able to get a BMW Z4 roadster or a G35 coupe, two fine examples of the type, the older G35s were a bit less rigid than they should be, for 2007 they doubled the number of welds. The 350Z and the G35 are he same body but the G35 has four seats and flexes a lot more, the 350Z is lighter and much more rigid but has almost no luggage space and what there is has the rear strut brace over the top of it, they helpfully provide instructions on how to get two golf bags in... if I was a golfer I'm sure I'd be delighted.

The Honda S2000 should be possible too, they list for near $35k but should be available used.

Personally I prefer the security of a hard top, convertibles and student life don't seem to go together.

I wouldn't recomend the Ford Mustang, poor handling, poor brakes and poor reliability don't make a great combination.

You could also try the BMW 325Ci, though it looks and drives like a regular 325, it is a coupe. I find they handle well but their medium term reliability isn't what you might hope (window regulators, 'final stage resistor' and cam position sensors are failures many 3-series owners know well). Pleasant cars to own though and they won't fall to pieces.

Good luck.

What is the some good sports cars for under 30k?

Benm550

Needs to have at least 4 seats. I've been looking around at Supras, RX-7s, and mustang GTs. Just want to know of some other good options.
More details? lets see. New or used. Needs to be manual. Prefer something from at least the 1990's to now, nothing too old. Like i said, i've been looking at Toyota Supra's, Mazda RX-7s and Mustang gt's(most likely a 1999-04 cobra) so that should give you an idea of what i am looking for.
just noticed i messed up the first part of the question. Obviously i meant "What are some good..."
Thanks for the advice Chief. I didn't really take into account repair costs on an older import, though i definitely should have. I have also been looking at the new 5.0 mustangs, but at this time it is a bit out of my price range, but you're right about the price going down. I'll definitely look into that in a little while as i am not planning on making a purchase right now, but around spring 2011 anyway.

Answer
Seriously, buy a Mustang and don't was anymore time on the others. This is going to sound biased, but don't buy foreign ride- if you want a sports car just stick with American Muscle, cant beat it so why try. If you are looking for a nice GT around 30K, wait until April or May of 2011 and buy a 2011 Ford Mustang GT coupe (by this time the incentives should be enough to drop it down to around 30K). This car will have the 5.0L V8 engine and you can't touch that on the street. Also, if (on the off chance it will need it) you need to have this vehicle worked on in the future you wont have to stroke a giant check for the repair work unlike foriegn makes which parts come from way over seas. Another good point, unless you are goin to tune up the foreign rides and sell them out right at a later date, you don't want to sink your money into something that wont add trade value to a car (aftermarket rims, supercharger, turbo, nitrous, or other tuning components) if you plan on trading it in down the road.

Just giving you straight up honest advice- although its your money, so do as you please!

help--Car seat??

Momma_of_2

I would like to buy the eddie bauer 3-in-1 car seat for my car. But I don't know If it will fit. I have a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta and I can not seem to fit any place ONLINE OR IN TOWN to check. (b4 I buy it) I live in a very small town, we don't even have a Wal-mart ( 75 miles away). Any info as to where I can find Info would be great!!! THANKS!!!

Answer
Run as far as you can AWAY from the Eddie Bauer 3-in-1, Cosco Alpha Omega, and all the other clones of the same seat. (Cosco/Eddie Bauer/Dorel/Safety1st all the same company, just different covers on the seats). Not a good seat - it is NOT the only car seat you will ever need, it is usually outgrown before a child reaches 3 years old, and then you have to buy another one. Fit in your car actually would be the only thing about the seat I wouldn't worry about. You do need to check and see if your car has ELR seatbelts, switchable retractor (ALR/ELR) seatbelts, or seatbelts with locking latchplates. It makes a difference in the seat you purchase. If your car does not have seat belts that lock (either switchable or locking latchplat) I would get the Marathon - its the only one with built-in locking clips so you don't have to use one of those pain in the rear locking clips that come separate. They're awful!

When getting a convertible seat, you want 3 things:
1)high rear facing limit - all go to at least 30lbs, but many go higher
2)high forward facing limit - all go to at least 40lbs, but many go higher
3)tall top harness slots - so it fits older kids, and low bottom slots if you need it to fit a newborn
The 3-in-1/Alpha Omega fails the on the last 2 - low top harness slots and low forward facing limit.

Remember these rules:
1)the BEST seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and will be used correctly 100% of the time. (This is why convenience features DO make a difference and ARE worth the money! If its easy to use, you're more likely to use it correctly.
2)Children should stay rear facing AS LNOG AS POSSIBLE!!!! The 20lbs/1 year rule is outdated and provides a bare minimum for turning kids forward facing. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration both recommend keeping kids rear facing as long as possible, up to the limits of their seat, preferably until at least 2 years of age. For good reason: A forward-facing child under 2 years old is 4 times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a crash than a rear-facing child of the same age. A child's vertabrae do not fully fuse until 3-6 years old, before then, she is at great risk for internal decapitation. The spinal column can stretch up to 2 inches in a crash BUT the spinal cord can only stretch up to 1/4 inch before it snaps and baby is gone. In other countries, rear facing 2 - 3 - 4 year olds is standard, they understand that its safer. Here, we turn them as soon as we get to, seeing it as a right of passage thing or something. Ridiculous. Most convertible seats have a 30lbs rear facing limit, Cosco/Dorel/Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seats rear face to 35lbs, Britax rear faces to 33lbs.
3)Once you do turn them forward facing, they need to stay in a 5 point harness as long as possible. 4 years/40lbs is the minimum for riding in a booster, and most 4 year olds have no business using one yet. If they can't sit upright for an entire trip, they need the harness of a car seat still. And, even if they do sit properly, a 5 point harness is safer, so you want to keep them in one as long as possible. This is important to consider b/c most car seats only forward face to 40lbs. My son just turned 3, and is in the 95th% for height and weight - 40" tall and weighs 41lbs. He outgrew the 40lbs seats shortly after his 2nd birthday. It was a total waste of money. He now has a Britax Marathon, which goes to 65lbs, and will be able to fit it for some time yet. If I'd have bought it when he was born, I could have had one car seat this whole time instead of the 3 I wasted money on. They are more expensive for many reasons, this is one.

So...knowing all that, here's some about specific seats. Please don't get a Graco Comfort Sport. Car seat techs call it the 'crappysport'. LOL Its a crappy seat that won't last your child very long b/c it has a really short shell. The straps twist all the time, and if they're twisted they won't support your child in a wreck properly. They're hard to install. There's nothing good about these seats except perhaps they're cheap sometimes. Ditto the Safety1st 3-in-1/Cosco Alpha Omega/Eddie Bauer 3-in1 seats. These are all the same company - same seat, just different covers. They stink. Hard to install, b/c of narrow belt paths. Ever tried to wash a skinny cup by hand? Now imagine that skinny cup with pointy edges. That's what putting your hand through these to install them is like. AND they have too short a shell to really go to 40lbs. And they do not make good boosters. Also, most kids have to use boosters until they're at least 8 years old. Car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture, so no matter what they say it is NOT the last seat you'll ever need to buy.

The Britax Marathon/Boulevard/Decathalon (These 3 are the same seat, just different variances of luxury additions, with the Marathon being the cheapest base model) can be found for regular price of $269, and on sale at Albee Baby online for $209-$219. The Marathon a wide open easy to route belt path, which makes using it correctly a lot easier, as do the built in lockoffs, which mean you never again have to use a locking clip. I can get it into 4 different vehicles in under 2 minutes. Because of the way the base is made, it fits in most cars. And, it is worth the money, b/c it lasts usually twice as long as most other car seats (all car seats expire 6 years after the date of manufacture) lasting a baby till they are 5-6 years old, where most at Walmart will only last till 2-4 years old. Rear faces to 33lbs, then forward to 65lbs. and top slots 17inches tall, lasts most kids to ages 5-6 years old.

The Evenflo Triumph Advance (not the original Triumph, make sure it says Advance) is a great seat. $150 version at Babies R Us has padding similar to Britax seats, top slots of 17", harnesses to 35lbs rear facing, and 50lbs forward facing. $120 Walmart version just has little less plush padding. Wide open belt path, easy to install, though it doesn't have built in lockoffs. The harness adjusts at the front of the car seat, you don't have to take the car seat out of the car just to raise/lower the straps. It's one of only 2 seats that does this (The Britax Boulevard is the other, I believE), and it has infinite harness adjustment so the harness always fits perfectly until its outgrown. No more tugging straps to tighten them either. You tighten and loosen the harness using knobs on the side of the seat. As a major bonus, it can be used in a recline position even in forward facing mode. Awesome for kids who still sleep in the car. I LOVE THIS SEAT! LOL My son, who is too big for every other car seat at Walmart has the same amount of room in this as the Britax Marathon.

The Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe Convertible seat is great, it is made by Britax, without all the frills. It's the same shell as a Marathon, but for less than half the price. $130 at Albee Baby online with free shipping, or at their eBay name, babysurplus. Rear faces to 33lbs, forward to 55lbs. Easy to use, fits in most cars.

These are the best you can buy that will give you the most bang for your buck. As a single parent I'm always watching the budget - I have no money to speak of, and these are what I would buy. (My son has a marathon and is soon getting a Britax Regent). They will last the longest. I only wish someone would've told me all this before I had him, I coulda saved some money for the extra seats I started out with!

All seats in the US must meet the same safety criteria to sell, so technically they all are safe, however, if its hard to install, then it won't be used correctly and that makes it unsafe. Also, they only must meet the guidelines, some seats barely pass, some exceed them. Britax exceeds the guidelines and is easy to use.

what are the type of Cadillac car models in the 1960s and 1970s?

bobbbyyy

i recently realized im into these cars but there are so many kinds!
its also pretty difficult to discover the models on such old cars

what decade do you think had the best appearance of these cars?

Answer
Cadillac was at it's stylish peak in the mid to late 50 through the late 60s. By the 70's Cadillac was still the top of the line luxury car brand in the USA but there mid 70s cars were not nearly as stylish as they were back when they where huge chromed out land barges.

Cadillac models in the 60s went by numbers. The Series 62, 63, 64, and 75. They were eventually renamed the Deville which came in Coupe and Sedan versions and the Fleetwood which was the largest four door sedan. The Eldorado was the "sporty" 2 door model that also came as a convertivle version. The Cadillac Eldorado was the first front wheel drive car manufactured in America.

Why did we have all these technological advances during a recession?

Iliketomak

Smartphones, tablets, better gas mileage on cars. I understand that technology advances quickly, but why did all these advances have to happen during and after the economic downturn of '07?

Answer
Not everybody suffered. Many basic manufacturing businesses never felt anything except maybe fewer sales, because of less of a demand. Luxury items suffered, however. Yachts and private planes dropped a lot, for example. So, time marches on and they (basic manufacturers) continued research and development of their products. It was the banks and insurance companies and real estate that suffered the most. Little people like me, part time inventors, who were involved with securities sold by the banks, lost money on the investments, but that did not bankrupt me, since I was diversified. I only lost 40% of what I had invested. Investment is like gambling, but what you are betting on is different. You can bet on the toss of a coin or bet on the skills and products of a company. Either way, over time, you win or you lose.

Where are Lada cars made?

Q.

Answer
Lada cars are made in Russia. Lada is the trademark of a Russian car manufacturer AutoVAZ which was set up in the late 1960s .The Lada name was used for exports only. Original Lada is often thought of as a 'rugged' car, lacking in most modern luxuries expected in modern cars.It is also envisaged as a "people's car".It became a victim of the political and economic problems of Russia in the late 80s and early 90s resulting to withdrawal from Britain and most other European markets in 1997.

Is it stupid to buy a used luxury car?

Alex

If its really cheap comparing to a new one ?

Answer
DO NOT buy a used luxury car . I've made this mistake before .its a total waste of money. I bought a 2009 Lamborghini Murcielago for $220k with a broken gearbox , messed up breaks and a spoiled ESP controller . it cost me $280K at the end to fork over it .replaced a dual clutch gearbox and the front breaks and fixed the ESP. of course it works well now . but its not worth the money . I still have to pay $80000 . and its due to November. see ? its not fun to spend on the toy of a rich kid.
If you don't have enough , go for a new but cheaper one . you won't regret it .

Everyone says no . maybe I've made a stupid purchase ? Idk . I love driving my car but the amount of money I have spent on it is driving me crazy.

Are there andy sport cars that aren't rear wheel drive?

Q. If not what is a nice looking car for a 16 year old

Answer
The Audi TT, Mitsubishi GTO, Dodge SRT-4, Chevy Cobalt SS, Volvo C30, Volkswagen Scirocco, and the Scion tC are all available in front-wheel drive.

Are front wheel sports cars more fun to drive than rear wheel drive sports cars?

Q. Yeah, but the take off in a front wheel sports car is like getting on a roller coaster. You can feel that pull.

Answer
First, there have been very (very!) few FWD cars where you could even have a debate about "is it a sports car." So in order to have this question in the first place you would have to assume the existance of the FWD sports car. There are certainly some possible examples and pretenders, but real sports cars?

Let's pass on that for a moment and look at why sports cars bypass FWD: sports cars are, by definition, about sport, And motorsport is about performance. From an engineering perspective there is one reason and one reason only to make a car FWD - and that is, assuming the engine is in the front of the car, it is much cheaper to make it FWD. Every other reason about drive wheels are reasons not to have FWD (though, you can almost make an argument that FWD is more forgiving of panic induced resonses by unskilled drivers... so maybe two reasons for FWD if you include that).

The more you accelerate in a FWD car the less grip you have to your drive wheels. Given limits of grip and what a tire can do, you will experience understeer on corner exit when applying the power. These two issues alone mean that FWD is simply slower than other configurations... and as for pulling? I suppose if you were to add a bunch of trailers behind it that it would be somewhat similar experience to a rollercoaster, but still not really.

So, with all of that said: while you can find a particular FWD car that might be "more fun" than certain RWD cars, as a generalization, the gap between them is so great it's simple to just say "no, FWD 'sports' cars are not more fun than RWD sports cars." I've had fun driving a number of Mini Coopers before, and think Mazda has some decent FWD packages out there (though again, not sure any of these are actually sports cars)... but compared to a Porsche 911? A Ferrari 430 Scud? Not close. But you don't even have to go to those exptremes, they do not measure up to a Mazda Miata.

So again, in short: No.

rear wheel drive cars?

~MEEEOW~

what are some of the benefits of having rear wheel drive, especially in sports cars? Thanks in advance!!
What is torque steer and over steer?

Answer
Rear wheel drive cars are known to have better power distribution to the wheels and better traction on road surfaces.

Especially in sports cars, which are designed for performance, factors such as stability of the car under any road condition are essential.

Unlike a front wheel drive car, in which the engine delivers power to the front wheels alone. The rear wheels are simply being 'dragged' along with the rest of the vehicle. The function of the rear wheels in a front wheel drive car is simply to support the structure of the vehicle and nothing more than that. There is no traction in the rear of the car.

In a rear wheel drive car, all the power and traction is supplied to the rear wheels, while the front wheels are used to steer the car.

Over Steer - Suppose you are driving a nose heavy car (a car which has got a heavier front than the rear), going fast around a curve could result in the car losing traction (grip) from the rear end and having its back being flung outside the curve. Over Steer can also result from bad aerodynamics which fail to equalize downforce on the front and rear of the car, i.e. higher down force at the front and no or very low downforce at the rear.

Traction in the rear wheels is preferable as power delive

why is the delorean a sports car?

Oku24

What details make the delorean a sports car???

Answer
A sports car is a term used to describe a class of automobile. The exact definition varies, but generally it is used to refer to a low to ground, light weight vehicle with a powerful engine. Most vehicles referred to as sports cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for more precise handling, acceleration, and aesthetics. A sports car's dominant considerations can be superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.

We have to keep in mind when the original Delorean was manufactured. This was in 1981-1982. During that time, there was very little performance in any car. Fuel economy laws and environmental impact laws never mind a gas crisis made it hard for any manufacturer to have performance in their cars. The Corvette in 1981 had only 190 horsepower. The 1981 Porsche 911SC had only 204 horsepower. The 200hp Delorean (Euro-spec) was right in the mix with some of the best sportscars of the time. (US cars were delivered with 170hp due to catalytic converters that the Euro cars did not require). It's handling was also on par with the better sportscars of the era as well.

The Delorean was considered a sportscar because it was low to the ground, it was a two seater and it had considerable performance for cars at that time. And the Gull wing doors were really really cool for a car built in the 80's.

The 80's sucked for sports cars.
