Where is a good place to buy a cheap luxury car?

Jason Sant

I heard Car rentals auction out their cars for really low prices. One of the workers told me that they sold a Nissan GT which is worth 79k for 21k and the milage was only 12000 but unfortunately they stopped selling them to the public and now sends them to car dealerships. I want to get the best deal for my luxury car.

Answer
No offense but if you want a cheap luxury car, you probably don't have the money to pay for the maintenance of the car. Insurance is going to be higher and average cost of ownership is $10,000 a year or more for luxury cars.

whats the fascination with luxury cars, and why do ppl lease them, to keep swtichng, isnt that loosing money?

Answer
you can get many luxury cars used, I've seen Bentleys for less than 10000 but the problem is when something goes wrong, how much will it cost? Will it cost 8000 to fix the brakes?

Which luxury cars are cheaper when it comes to maintainance?

Jason Sant

I am looking for a luxury car and the ones on sale are pretty affordable. I live in Honolulu so the milage on these cars are not so bad. Around 50-70,000 miles used. There are 3 cars I am looking at The first car is a Jaguar X-type 3.0 sedan 2007 and is selling for $15,000. The second one is a BMW 325i 2006 and is selling for 16,0000 and the last one is a Lexus ES350 2007 and is selling for $17,500. Lexus seems to be the most expensive one but I need to know which one will be worth keeping in the long run. This includes gas, insurance and maintainance. I know BMW is below the list but I have my eyes on the Jaguar.

Answer
For reliability, #1 would be Lexus, #2 would be BMW, #3 would be Jaguar (ugh).

The Jag X-type sedan is based on the same "wonderful" platform as the ill-fated Mercury Mistique and Ford Contour. It's a real pile and difficult to repair.

3 series bimmers are great road cars and pretty reliable, but when they break, simply the cost of parts is more than double a regular car.

Your clear choice here, if the decision is based soley on reliability and maintenance costs, is the Lexus. Personally I'd have a hard time not picking the BMW as it is much more of a sporting machine than the Lexus, but that sport comes at a high price should something go wrong.
Stay away from the Jag. X-types are the worst turds of an entire car line of turds. :)

Edit: the Jag will also be the worst of the three in fuel economy due to it being all wheel drive.

Las Vegas, it seems, at the Exotic Cars dealership at Caeser's Palace.

They only have one, though. No official dealerships in the USA, unfortunately.

How to convince my Dad to buy me a Prius?

My dad is a Prius hater, however I think it would be a great car with the combined mpg of 50. I keep making those points that the Prius gets good gas mileage, it's very safe, and it has easy maintenance but he keeps making the point the Prius is ugly, he also makes the point that it will take much longer to pay off the extra cost it is to buy a hybrid vs a internal combustion engine car. I need some good points that might make him change his mind about the Prius. I also say that he wouldn't drive it so he wouldn't have to deal with the "bad" looks. Please help me get some good rebuttals to his statements and make him want to get a Prius. Thanks :)

Answer
There are two views on what should be a first car:

A. Get a cheap used car because new drivers often get into accidents due to lack of driving experience. A cheap used car cost less when it gets wrecked.

- There is not much to say about this veiw. It's pretty self explanatory. It's also what most people do.

B. Get the safest car you can find because you can always replace a car but you can't replace the driver.

One of the safest cars out there is the Prius, and here's why:

1. There are four braking systems on the Prius:

- Regenerative brakes
- Friction brakes
- Engine brakes
- Parking brakes

2. Vehicle stability control:

- A system that prevents doughnuts during slippery conditions if you are going anything like a reasonable speed. Studies from Europe and Japan indicate that VSC reduces head-on collisions by over 30%.

4. Brake assist:

- A system that applies extra force to the brake pedal when it senses an emergency stop. Studies by Mercedes indicate that people press the brakes quickly but not hard enough. Brake assist compensates for this tendency.

5. Brake override:

- A system that stops the acceleration when the brake pedal is pressed firmly.

6. The smooth acceleration of the Prius (there are no gears that shift) helps prevent you rear-ending someone if they slow down right after stopping. (An old fashioned economy car typically has a very low first gear to disguise the fact the engine is small--this creates rapid acceleration up to about 10 mph after which the acceleration bogs down. The Prius smoothly accelerates up to it's maximum speed of about 105 mph which is controlled by the system.)

7. Optionally in the 2010 Prius:

- Radar pre-collision

- Lane keep

Many of these systems prevent the accident in the first place. The best accident is one you don't have.

Besides the safety aspects, the Prius is a mid-size car so there is more room for friends and equipment. It has low maintenance requirements and a very high owner satisfaction rating. I purchased my first Prius (a 2001) for my wife (who was also a new driver at the time). It was so good that I got a 2004 for myself. It's been one of the most exciting and fun-to-drive cars I've ever driven. The 2001 now has 100,000 trouble-free miles and the 2004 has 145,000.

I'd stay away from any SUVs or sports cars because beginning drivers just don't have the experience to handle them.

Note that the Prius C is not more than an old fashioned car. Even for the standard Prius, the hybrid components add about $500 to the price of the car, the rest is because it's a mid-sized car, not a subcompact and has a lot more amenities standard than does an econobox. As far as looks go, aerodynamic styling where form follows function make the car look as if it belongs in the 21st century rather than the 19th.

My 2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles
2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles
2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16,174 miles
2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18,384 miles
2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21,755 miles
2009 -- 61.4 mpg 16,177 miles
2010 -- 65.2 mpg 12,134 miles
2011 -- 66.9 mpg 11,272 miles
2012 -- 69.2 mpg 16,212 miles

Can I put regular 87 gasoline in my 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan?

luxury cars that use 87 octane gas on ... Envision Auto - Calgary Highline Luxury Sports Cars & SUV Specialists
luxury cars that use 87 octane gas image

Gurpreet

So I just bought a 2007 G35 sedan a day ago and I forgot to ask them if it is required that I put 91 gasoline in it. Does anyone know if I can put 87 gasoline in it and there will be no problems. Serious answers only, thanks.

Answer
I have a 2009 G37 sedan and I highly recommend that you not put a lower octane fuel such as 87 into your G sedan. First off the G35 sedan was built to offer Luxury & performance hence the fact why its engine outputs 306 HP, the G sedan continues to be class leading in horsepower among its rivals so as to ruining the performance of your vehicle for the savings of $5 lousy dollars is not worth it, otherwise you should have opted for an economical sedan like a Toyota Camry and not a luxury performance vehicle. The 2007 G35 sedan requires premium gas but it will also accept Midgrade fuel without sacrificing the driving dynamics or performance of your G sedan. Octane 89 is acceptable but thats as low as I would go. I have been putting 89 into my G37 for the past 5 months and it performs just as well as the first day I drove it off the Infiniti lot. Putting Regular gas will take a toll on the performance of your vehicle in the long run, acceleration will feel delayed, the ride will feel alot more sluggish, fuel economy will worsen and basically it will no longer hold the true meaning of its prompted badge G35 if it doesnt perform like one. You can put 87 in your car, I mean its not like it will break down on you but its not going to perform nor behave the way a G sedan should, and if you worried about saving a couple bucks the consequence of putting regular gas in your G35 will only worsen your cars fuel economy. I pay $3.29 a gallon where I live for 89 (Midgrade) and Regular is $3.09, im not going to ruin a perfectly good car for the sake of saving $3 to $5 dollars. You dont have to put Premium if you dont want to, you can opt for Midgrade, just dont put Regular.

What is the octane rating on gasoline products for?

amazingant

no no no, i want to know what it's for, not what it is. i can see the numbers on any standard gas pump at chevron or BP.
actually, for viet_imagery, it comes in much higher octane ratings than 100, but not many people use Jet Fuel in their cars.

Answer
Octane ratings measure a gasoline's ability to resist engine knock, a rattling or pinging sound that results from premature ignition of the compressed fuel-air mixture in one or more cylinders. Most gas stations offer three octane grades: regular (usually 87 octane), mid-grade (usually 89 octane) and premium (usually 92 or 93). The ratings must be posted on bright yellow stickers on each gasoline pump.

What's the right octane level for your car?
Check your owner's manual to determine the right octane level for your car. Regular octane is recommended for most cars. However, some cars with high compression engines, like sports cars and certain luxury cars, need mid-grade or premium gasoline to prevent knock.

How can you tell if you're using the right octane level? Listen to your car's engine. If it doesn't knock when you use the recommended octane, you're using the right grade of gasoline.

Will higher octane gasoline clean your engine better?
As a rule, high octane gasoline does not outperform regular octane in preventing engine deposits from forming, in removing them, or in cleaning your car's engine. In fact, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires that all octane grades of all brands of gasoline contain engine cleaning detergent additives to protect against the build-up of harmful levels of engine deposits during the expected life of your car.

Should you ever switch to a higher octane gasoline?
A few car engines may knock or ping - even if you use the recommended octane. If this happens, try switching to the next highest octane grade. In many cases, switching to the mid-grade or premium-grade gasoline will eliminate the knock. If the knocking or pinging continues after one or two fill-ups, you may need a tune-up or some other repair. After that work is done, go back to the lowest octane grade at which your engine runs without knocking.

Is knocking harmful?
Occasional light knocking or pinging won't harm your engine, and doesn't indicate a need for higher octane. But don't ignore severe knocking. A heavy or persistent knock can lead to engine damage.

Why are there less Volkswagen models available in US than other countries?

luxury cars made in usa on Luxury Caravans Interiors
luxury cars made in usa image

furthermor

They currently only sell 10 models in US (Jetta, Passat, New Beetle, Rabbit, Eos, GLI, GTI, R32, Tiguan, & Toureg). But they sell 13 models in South Africa, 20 in South America, 22 in Asia/Pacific, and 20 in Europe. What gives?

Answer
A lot of issues are in play here; however, its fair to say that some of the models are not well suited to the US market. The Polo, as popular as it is, is probably too small for US tastes and low horsepower motors its equipped with won't make many converts here. In addition, until just recently, VW was attempting to move the product line upscale to the near luxury area, a entry level car like the Polo would work against that.

VW also has assembly plants in various countries around the world; Brazil, Argentina, China, Spain, Russia and other places where they can make models suited to the local market. VW hasn't had an assembly plant in the US market since 1983? or so; most of the vehicles sold in the US market are made in Mexico, which also has to build vehicles for the local market.

One of the other issues the powertrain; it takes many millions of dollars to certify a vehicle to meet the emissions and safety standards that the US has (not to menion the California emissions standards that are the strictest in the world), so because of the number vehicles that VW currently sells in the US, they have a limited number of powertrain choices, which in turn limits the type and kind of vehicles that they can sell here.

Finally, since they have no assembly plant in the US, models that aren't assembled in Mexico are very expenisve to import. With the Euro now trading at close at or near 1.60 US dollars to a single Euro, VW is close to taking a loss on some vehicles sold in the US. A Passat is actually slightly cheaper in the USA, than at home with compariable equipment levels.

Having once owning stock in a now departed auto maker; I can remember them once telling us poor shareholders how they saved millions of dollars in tooling for the body shell by modifying the existing body dies for the "new car." Ford, it was reported, spent over 1 billion dollars in development and tooling costs to develop the 1986 Mercury Sable and Ford Tarus models: if it had failed in the market placed Ford wouldn't be with us today.

Hope this gives you some insight into why the US market doesn't get some models sold overseas.

Do Chinese people know what their life is like compared to other countries?

Q. I remember learning somewhere that in Communist countries like China, they are not allowed to learn about other countries, which seems ridiculous with the internet and whatnot. Maybe this is the way it used to be or maybe I misunderstood. Either way, would it be possible for the people of one country to be entirely ignorant of their stance in the world among other countries?

Answer
Hello,

Yes they do:

1) I have trained Chinese and Eastern Europeans who lived under communism in geotechnical work in our oil patch in Western Canada. Now for a time they did not have much accesses to some of the technology we had over here but they were well aware of it, had read and studied about it and once they were here they caught on extremely fast.

2) They are very sharp educationally wise. Now I'm an average guy and graduated university though not as a Rhodes Scholar. To be honest with you myself and my family and friends would never have made it into an institution of much higher learning in these countries.True that sort of education is free but it is as hard to qualify to get into as as medical or prestigious law schools are here. If your not in the top 5% of academic excellence, forget it!

3) They studied all about history of the USA, Canada and the rest of the world. Many had a big interest in that American Civil War era. Even though they did not have all luxuries we did, they were all in the same boat having apartments and nice parties and little stress at work. If they didn't show up on time, so what? There job was always there. Now the exception to the ruler were high ranking communist members who had big homes, villas abroad and several lovely cars et al.

4) Finally they live, want to have good life and health, fall in love have children ( mind you only 1 in China) be social and enjoy things like everyone else in the world.

5) Movies from Star Wars to Jaws were shown there; a lot of Westerns as these movies show the greed of empires and capitalists. Of course Pork Chop Hill through to Animal Farm would not be allowed.

Cheers,

Michael Kelly

How high of a status do you want to achieve in life?

luxury cars quotes on 2010 10Best Cars - 10Best Cars - Car and Driver
luxury cars quotes image

Manchester

Do you want to climb all the way to the top of where you're extremely wealthy, owning a few sports and luxury cars, and a 50,000 square foot home. Wearing the latest fashion clothing and jewelry. Going to the hottest clubs and restaurants. Eating the finest food and drinking the finest wine.

How high do you want to climb?

Answer
It is always the simplest things that elude even the smartest of people. How many times have we heard those little quotes that very few of us truly appreciate.
"Money doesn't buy happiness"
"You get what you give"
We only have one life to live so why would I want to submerge myself in wealth, knowing that such superficial things don't truly attribute to ones happiness.
It isn't the car you drive, it is where you're driving to.
It isn't the house you live in, it is who shares it with you that counts.
People usually compensate for their inner emptiness with superficial things that you mentioned and it becomes their measure of happiness.
Men who spend their whole life counting money become so consumed by it that it becomes them. They connect to the world through their money. People are attracted to them for their money of course, because it is their one tool of connection. And then, as is often inevitable in business, they succumb to Karma, and become bankrupt, they find that they have lost not only all of their possessions but also all of their 'friends'! This happened to someone I knew, and once they had lost all of their superficial things, the very things that they used to connect with the world, then they had nothing left because they were defined by these objects and they subsequently blew their brains out. Why?
Because they were weak.
You only have one life to live so why live it in misery. Life is primarily about connection. A connection with someone that is based on love and respect is indestrucible. But a connection that is based on wealth is very weak.
Falling in love with a person who I know loves me for my personality as opposed to my money and fame is much more pleasurable than attracting someone who loves the position I have in society and who lives vicariously through my success.
Love and connection is the most rewarding experience of all and I actually feel sorry for people like my former friend, who never really knew what 'True Love' was all about.

Whats a good cheeper sports car to get?

Johnny

hey, im want to get a sporty looking car, it doesn't necessarily have to be really fast for anything. and i dont have that much money to spend. can you guys tell me some sporty cars that are on the cheeper side?

Answer
dude it depends what year, and what your def of cheap means. If your talking 4k, an early to mid 90s stang. I think their shetty lookin though. I like the new style of stangs or years 1999-2004, more bulky and aggressive looking. If your talking 5-6k. You maybe could land a gt of the 99 mustang. However, a trans am would work...............Now if your talking 2-3k cheap, it gets hard. Chrysler sebrings are not sporty, they are okay converts though. Oh, for 2-3k you could go with a early 90s camaro, probably an R.S.

Now with the RS you are getting a v6, unless they threw a 350 in there. A 1991-1992 camaro are aggressive looking, esp. with hood scoops. The inside of them are very basic. Very basic. However, nowadays just do what I do, throw in a flip out cd/dvd player. You can always mess with things. If you are thinking about a lebaron GTC, I will just slap you now! Just b/c it says GT doesn't mean it's sporty. They are a crappy car. Atleast with a sebring you get a little luxury. If buying a sebring, don't go higher than a 2000. In 2001 they introduced the 2.7 engine. A very crappy and expensive engine. My mother has a 2004, and at 80k the motor went. Stay with a 2.5 L engine.

Let's recap cheap:

Upper cheap 5-6k: Mid 90s trans am, 90s mustang gt, different year camaros. Even an eclipse.
Lower cheap( couple grand ): Camaro( like early 90s better ), an old firebird.
Not sporty, but it's a car that has leather and the top comes down: 1998-2000 Sebring convertible.

Personally, if money was an issue, the early 90s camaro. Yes it's an RS V6, but it's not bad. Maybe even with t-tops. Or I would go with the sebring vert. Don't get a girly color. I'd go silver on black leather, black on black leather,ect....

If you have 5k- trans am. They have a corvette engine. T-tops. Also, more HP than a mustang gt in the 90s. It will cost less to buy than a mustang gt. Also, it has double dual exhaust. Most owners put magna flows or flowmasters on the trans am. Things to watch for on trans ams.....some leak oil b/c the amount of pressure that is put on the car. Also if the car was hot-rodded, rod bearings, piston rings can be issues.

how much do i need to make to be happy and comfortable in los angeles?

manwomen23

I don't need to live in beverly hills, but no ghetto either
I enjoy kiteboarding, surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking
I like going to get a bite to eat at a small shop or coffee shop often, I will drive a regular car, most likely fuel efficient like a toyota prius, i don't need a big apartment because i am single, I like attending sports games and stuff, I like working out lots.

Does a sport car have anything to do with sport?

sports cars convertible on Red Convertible Icon, PNG ClipArt Image | IconBug.com

heartlessv

When we were younger, we hear adults talk about sports cars. Old Camaros and Firebirds parked on the driveway chipping dried paint and spewing brown rust. Some were ragtop convertibles from the 1970's. Why is a sport car called a sport car when it has nothing to do with sports?

Answer
Back in the day, lots of privately owned Sports Cars were actively involved in racing. It was quite common for a racing enthusiast to buy a little MG or Triumph roadster straight off the dealer's car lot, race it on Sunday and drive it to work on Monday. Even the Trans-Am series back in the 1970's was based on modified production cars like Mustangs and Camaros that started life as factory-built street cars.

Now days with all the commercialization and advanced technology that goes into motorsports, that's no longer practical. The average NASCAR or Formula 1 racer is custom built from the ground up to do one thing, and you would never see one driving on the street.

I'm not sure we have gone in the right direction, but that seems to be where the money is these days... Oh well.

What is the hottest car these days?

Lauriemmm

I love sports cars and convertibles. I'll never own one but I love thinking about them and looking at them. What is the latest and greatest that I should be checking out? (Yeah, yeah, I know, I know - A Honda Accord is great for driving and when I open the sunroof I pretend it is my convertible!)

Answer
Chevy Corvette of course, the only true American sports car. Any year will do.

I need help! Should I get MW3 OR SAINTS ROW THE THIRD? help I love both but can't decide and I will be able to get one another day so thanks 4 ur help no dumb answers.

Answer
Wow, toughest question ever. Do you like shooters or free roam RPGs. Do you like cod? Because for some, it is to fast paced. Do you like beating people up with dildos? Running over people with cars? Personally. I would want to go with saints because you have more fun and gametime. But in the end I would go cod because they're the best shooters out there no doubt. Fuck EA trying to make shooters. Stick to your shitty sports games.

Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, Saints Row The Third?

manuel lar

Can u explain y one is better than the others too.

Answer
Personally it's like comparing 3 different cars in three different classes. Mass effect is story driven with great voice acting and life altering decisions (so I'm told), Max Payne is a well rounded game. Awesome shoot em up story and even better multiplayer. You light fools up with your gun in style while jumping In the air while time slows around you and you are always fighting to survive. It's a classic even though it came out just a few months ago. Saints Row is gta on some serious crack. Fun story but sorry you have to start a new game to play through it again, fun to play first time but then it gets boring the second and third time around...unless you bring along a friend.

Moral of the story, all great games, just find which one makes you feel at home. Look up reviews, rent them, borrow them, whatever. Just know that these games hold almost no similarity towards each other. Kinda like asking me if a camero can out run a viper. OF COURSE NOT!!! The viper is a sports car. Camero is muscle, but I digress. 3 different games, 3 different levels of enjoyment.

Orlando airport transportation to Disney World?

USAFret

We will be staying at the Shades of Green Resort at Disney World but this property is not serviced by Disney's Magical Express.

What is the cheapest way to get from the airport to the Shades of Green for a group of 7 people?

Answer
Mears Shuttle is not the best deal for large groups because you pay per person.

Honestly, your best deal will be to rent a mini-van one way. There is a Hertz desk right there at Shades of Green but they don't allow one-way drop offs.

You can rent through Alamo, which usually has better prices anyway, and drop everyone & luggage off at the resort. One person can then drop the car off at the Alamo location at the Disney Car Care Center and their shuttle will bring you back to Shades of Green. Then do a one-way from Alamo for your return trip and drop the car at the Orlando International Airport.

If you don't want to drive, a van service that charges by the trip - rather than by the person - will be a better deal for your group. Here's a link that lists some orlando area services - I don't know how recently it was updated:

American Luxury Transportation provides good service at a good price but everyone I ever spoken to speaks English as a second language so be absolutely sure that everyone is perfectly clear about the travel dates and times.

Happy Limo & Tiffany Town Car always get great reviews but their prices are higher. I do have a discount code that will save a little on Happy Limo.

Cheap way to travel to Gainesville FL from Los Angeles CA?

Natz

So my brother just moved in to Gainesville FL and my parents are over there with him and with my baby sister, we celebrate mothers day the 27th of May and I'd just love to go over and visit them from the 23rd at afternoon until the 27th, which would be great because of the Memorial Day weekend.

But here's the problem, the plain tickets I've been checking on http://www.cheapflights.com/book-flights-online/ , http://www.travelocity.com/Flights and everywhere else is over my budget, at around 650 USD. I figure traveling by car is nearly the triple but train perhaps?

I really want to go so I can see them again, please help me.

Answer
You can only try going by plane since you do not have the luxury of time. As far as 20 hours on Grayhound from CA to FL is false. I driven several times from Houston Tx almost non stop except for gas food batroom, averaging 18 hours a trip or more to Orlando 1125 miles.
Anyways try to book a flight way ahead of your travel thats where you can get the best price available. Bookingbuddy, Kayak search engines.
