how to deal with new car dealers?

bumble_bee

Answer
Hi Bumble,

Visit edmunds.com or kbb.com for pricing if you've already determined what type of vehcile you want.

Sales people are savvy to the the fact that consumers can now obtain invoice pricing, msrp etc from sites such as Edmunds and others as well. They expect you to know this information, it's not a hindrance to them at all, actually a benefit, of course to consumers well.

Supply and demand still rules pricing, especially with high line luxury cars, depending on what type of vehicle you are considering, if it's a hard to get vehicle, your bargaining power will be reduced.

You should be forthcoming, in a diplomatic way of course, let them know what you've found as far as pricing. This should be stated as soon as possible, or as soon as the conversation allows. By letting them know, they will at least not start so high with an original offer.

Don't appear to be so eager, if this is really the car you want, don't show it. This will allow leverage on their part and reduce your bargaining power once again.

Of course it's not just the bottom line price of the car that consumers pay for. It's add ons, such as paint sealants, undercoatings, window etching, PREP Fees and other items they may approcah you into buying. My personal and professional opinion is that these items are very seldom needed, if at all.

Extended warranties are another issue as well, depending on your usage of the vehicle, this may or may not be a good option for you. I'm a firm beleiver that they are valuable under the right circumstances, but they are not always a good idea for every circumstance.

If you consider a warranty, you can always purchase before the original factory warranty expires. If you purchase when you buy the car, and it's included with financing, you'll be paying finance charges for something that you aren't useing.

Financing is another source of income for dealers, if you finance thru a credit union or bank, you will most likely get a better interest rate, but if you finance outside the dealer, they may not be willing to negotaite with bottom line pricing.

You should compare the options and use an online comparison calculator once you have the details. These can be found on most sites that offer auto loans.

Another small rule of thumb is the best time to buy, most people will tell you at the end of the month, this does have some value, but dealers will often ROLL the 1st day or 2 of sales into the previous month.

Manufactuers will offer incentives to dealers for number of cars sold, so if they are short, they may roll these couple of days to earn their incentives.

Also, be wary of a salesperson asking you how much you want your monthly payments to be. Don't divulge this info, just negotiate the price and then the financing terms,

Be careful as well if you are trading in a car or truck with a lien, if they claim they will pay this off it often times ends up back in your contract, they simply add this amount to the new financing arrangements.

Know your credit score before you start shopping, a common scam is an original agreement based on your score, then they call you back and say you weren't approved based on your score and attempt to get you financed with a higher rate.

Read the contract carefully before signing, look for "Arbitration Clause" that states if you are dis-satsified you waive your right to sue.

As with any business, sales people and dealerships are in business to make a profit, and so they should, but there is a big difference between making a profit and being taken advantage of.

Also consider the quality of the service dept, do they offer loaner cars? Do they have a good reputation?

My suggestion here is to meet with the service manager and have a list of questions that may be of concern to you, such as the examples listed above. Explain that you are perhaps buying a car from the dealer but you would like to know about their service first.

There's a saying in the industry, Sales departments sell the first car to a consumer but the service dept sells the second or more to the consumer. Meaning the quality of the service dept will keep a consumer coming back when he/she is in the market for another vehicle.

Also visit the links for more information that may help, especially if you are buying a used or certified used car.

Need advice for first time buying a car?

poopio

I basically have three options right now. I plan on buying a car this upcoming tax season, I should have around 2,000 between savings and tax return for a down payment. I'm confused as to whether I should buy a cheapo car under 2000 for my first car, buy from a used dealership for around 5-6,000 and risk getting scammed, or buy a new, or new used car in the 10,000 range. I currently am a student and live at home with minimal bills. I could afford to buy a newer car, and it would give me peace of mind knowing I won't have to fuss with mechanical problems, but it'll make money pretty tight. Any advice for a first time buyer?

Answer
First narrow down to what type of car you want and can afford. Then find the model and year you want and can afford. Research the car on Edmunds.com and kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book). These sites will give you the value of the car and any reported issues with the car you're looking at. Some cars are lemons (cars that break down frequently) so it's vital that you research your car on Edmunds.com

Cars have what's called "packages". Basically they're add-ons to what the car comes with standard. Examples are: Premium Package-Adds a moon roof, more luxury options, etc. Sound Package-Updated sound system, better speakers, multi-disc changer, iPhone connector, etc. Every car is different in this respect. Features that a package offers will differ between cars.

If the car is new, they're will be 0 millage. During this period, this is called the break in period. Do NOT excessively wear your car down during this period or you may damage it and shorten the life span of the car.

If the car is used, it REALLY depends on the age, brand, and if the previous owner(s) took care of it. If the maintenance was hardly done, the car is bound to have severe problems that you will have to fix. Buying a car with low millage is better than one with high millage. High millage can be considered 90,000+. Anything over 100,000+ miles you need to be VERY careful about. Most cars will develop issues over this millage.

Borrowing money is based on several things. The banks determine what the requirements are. One, you must have a job and at least have held it for a year. You must present your W2 tax form (it states how much you made in that tax year) and you're two most recent pay stubs. The bank uses this to determine if you can pay back your loan in a timely manner and that you aren't asking for excessive money. A bank will not lend you money for a Mercedes if you make minimum wage for example. If you make $7000 in a year. The bank will typically not lend you anything higher than that amount.

If you have no credit history or a limited one, you will be charged with a high interest rate.

Also, in most states, you are legally required to purchase insurance. If you have to borrow money, the lien holder (the one who lend you the money to buy the car) will require you buy purchase total coverage insurance. Basically this will cover any and all incidents if you get into an accident. This is a monthly payment on top of your loan.

The insurance amount you own will be determined by several things. If you're an 18 year old that's buying a sports car, you will be hit with high insurance rates. Why? Because insurance companies know that younger adults are more dangerous drivers statistically. However, if you took drivers ed and have a clean record, you may get these rates reduced.

Maintenance on any car is required if you don't want it to break down quickly. Maintenance is not just changing the oil, but maintaining everything. Examples are power steering fluid, breaking fluid, transmission fluid, clutch fluid (if it's a manual), tires, etc. Japanese cars are usually cheap to maintain. My Honda Accord Coupe costs $40 to do an oil change. European cars are more expensive to maintain and repair. I also own a Mercedes C240 and an oil change costs about $200. If you're just starting off and don't have a high income, get a Japanese car, like a Honda or Toyota.

Changing oil isn't that hard in Japanese and American cars. It's a PAIN in European cars. You can do this yourself if you know what you're doing. DO NOT use the incorrect oil or you will damaged the engine. If you're not sure, take it to the dealership. It will cost more, but they'll know what they're doing. You can find this out be reading the owner's manual (all cars come with one).

Different cars use different grades of gasoline. Make sure you are using the correct one or else it will damage the engine. My Honda uses Regular gas, the cheapest option. My Mercedes uses Super, which is the most expensive.

Overview of Owning a Car (what you'll be paying for and should consider before buying a car)
-the loan amount
-insurance on the car
-gas
-maintenance
-repairs

Luxury cars are more expensive to maintain and repair. I don't suggest buying one if it's your first car and if you have a low income.

If you do decide to buy used, get a Japanese car, if possible a Honda Accord. They're known to be one of the most reliable cars to buy. If buying used, try to get it directly from the owner. An owner will know the car better than a dealer, who's primary concern is to make money. I wouldn't buy a car that's older than 10 years old and/or with high millage.

Lincoln town car L? Specs Plz?

andric

So im helping my dad find a replacement family car. And he considered getting a used lincoln town car L. Although it has a V8, i figured the cheaper price would makeup for the gas. What is the reliabity of his car? And the mpg? All the specs wud be nice thank you

Answer
the L has another 6 inches of rear legroom. the mpg is the same. lincoln town cars are very reliable because its a rich mans crown victoria they all ride same chassis/ same engine/trans, the town car gets 20 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. its rear wheel drive, and is the luxury version of grand marquis. i would really go for the lincoln town car because they last longer than its main rival, the cadillac deville. dont buy these brand new because by the time its a year old its worth 30k instead of 50k brand new. this car has more passenger and cargo room than the cadillac dts and town cars can last as long as a toyota or honda.

MERCURY MARAUDER,,, why did gm stop making this beautiful car?

GUY G

it is me or dose gm and ford take all the great cars off the market for new crap..

i mean to me the maurader is a true classic,, why would they discontinue it,,,

and take crwon vics,, they are beutiful cars,, but have looked the same for years,, why not udate the look a lil

Answer
It's quite simple, really. GM never made the car in the first place. The Mercury Grand Marquis Marauder is a Ford product, based off of the same platform as the Ford Crown Victoria Interceptor.

The answer to your second question is: Yes, it seems like GM and Ford, as well as other companies, do take great cars off of the market. The reason is because they're not selling well. The great cars of yesteryear, like the musclecars of the 1960s, and even newer, lamented models like the Mazda RX-7, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Pontiac Firebird and GTO, and Toyota Supra have all been removed from the market because they simply weren't selling in numbers to justify the price of producing them. Some, though, like the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro, and possibly the Pontiac Firebird, are coming back because enough people missed them to tell Chrysler and GM that they'd be buying them once they appeared on the market again.

The Marauder was discontinued because Mercury only sold approximately half of the 2004 Marauders by years' end, and less than half of what it had sold in 2003. That's pretty bad.

The answer to your last question is this: Ford might be updating the Crown Victoria. Originally, the next Crown Victoria was going to be built on the Ford Interceptor concept, but Ford decided that was too expensive. For sure, Ford is going to be redesigning the Lincoln Town Car, which shares its' platform with the Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis, so it makes sense to also release a Ford and Mercury version to take up cost. What would keep this from happening is two things: One is the fact that the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are now fullsize cars, with more room in them than the old Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis, better gas mileage, more power, and All-Wheel Drive. Two is if, to keep the Lincoln Town Car competitive in today's luxury car market, Ford decides to build the Town Car with a very high-tech platform to compete with the likes of very expensive luxury cars like the Audi A8, BMW 7-Series, Cadillac DTS and STS replacement, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which it rivals in size, particularly with the long-wheelbase L version.

I hope this has answered your questions. If you have any more, please feel free to ask.

new car sales disclosures in washington state?

sky

I have bought a new car in 2009 in Washington state, its a luxury sedan that has given me problems eversince I bought it.
I had lots of warranty repair done, 6 times for the same problem! Now I accidently been handed a vehicle report by the car repair shop that shows the history of my cars repair.
In it I read that my new car had the entire steering wheel column replaced before it was sold to me . That was not diclosed by the dealership when I bought the car ? Should it have been ? They also fixed a recall on that car before I bought it , also not disclosed!
Is that grounds enough to ask the dealership to buy back my car ? I am tired of , its a sweet ride, but not sweet enough to have it fixed every other month , especially not since warranty will run out one day!
What are my legal options, does anybody know????
Yes, I am the only owner of this car , and it was brand new when I bought it !
However Lemon Law usually covers only defects that prohibit the safe operation of the vehicle. I have electrical problems with my car , including the electrical power steering did not work as soon as it was delivered to the dealership. That is what caused them to replace the entire steering column. However the question remains, should that not have been disclosed to me before I bought the car. That is not a minor cosmetic repair that was done!?

Answer
If this car is NEW - if you are the ONLY registered owner, and you bought the car BRAND NEW - then you may have cause for a Lemon Law claim. But I stress - ONLY if the car was bought brand new. If you bought it used, then you own the car and its problems. They have no obligation to you, or that car, outside of the written warranties.

ADD: I am pretty sure I could make the case that, in today's cars, electrical system malfunctions are indeed related to safe operation. The dealer is not going to buy it back, so forget that. Get to the service maanger and tell him you need to speak to the area representative.

As to the items replaced and recalls performed, no, they are not required to inform you.

What is worse; driving lowrider or sports car in snow?

Parris

Answer
TRICK QUESTION ! ! !

Sports car is worse. Although I did drive an MGB Roadster through 5 Canadian Winters.

You can put snow tires on a lowrider - push a button - and you have ample ground clearance. A sports car's ride height is fixed and cannot be altered.

whats an american made sports car that will handle descently in the snow?

luddrums

?

Answer
Um...nothing?!? It would have to be at least fwd and the only fwd sports car I know of is a chevy cobalt ss turbo (or the cobalt ss supercharged/ion redline). Even then it has lot's of torque so you'll need dedicated snow tires in the winter. I believe the cobalt ss turbo is made in the US. I know the redline (not sure about the cobalt ss super) was physically constructed in kentucky...but a lot of the parts aren't US origin (like all american cars). Other than that...possibly a dodge srt-4 neon (or possibly caliber).

The Civic Si might be constructed in the US as well...Honda and Toyota build almost all of their US market cars in North America...some in Mexico/central america though.

But yeah...when I was living in the mid-atlantic I ran my car (stage 2+) in the snow and it drove well even uphill with snow tires (Dunlop graspic). Actually, I can honestly say it was fun. But with regular tires...no...you will die (I drove through a colorado blizzard on regular tires) and can't shift into 2nd gear without fishtailing.

Other than that...any RWD car will be HORRIBLE in the snow...and mustangs, gto, camaro, challenger, etc...are all RWD. Even with snow tires it's going to be miserable driving on a rwd car.

Definition of sport car body?

I want to know about the best sport car in the world and why it is the best.

Answer
Your sports car.Muahahaha!

The best sports car is actually the Chevrolet Corvette.Simply because it offers the best of both worlds: Power and handling that are usually reserved for luxury sports cars, and a price tag that doesn't suck the breath from one's chest. Reviewers from all corners of the world love its sleek looks and the way the Corvette moves. Its performance is on par with sports cars costing nearly three times as much, making it ideal for those who thrive on the open roads but also like to have money left to spend on other things. The Corvette is the car that all others are hoping to beat in 2007.

Is a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LS coupe a sports car?

Anonymous

Im just curious. Also, would it still cost as much in insurance as a mustang if it is?

Answer
It would not be considered a sports car. It would be considered a compact (or subcompact) coupe. The insurance premium should not be as much on a Cobalt as it would be on a Mustang. Insurance companies also consider your age, driving record (accidents and/or moving violations), daily driving distance, vehicle's age and limits of liability.

Opinions on best luxury car?

Seb

2010 Acura TL vs 2010 Infiniti G37 vs 2010 Lexus ES350.

In no specific order, I'm looking for a car with overall best luxury, performance, reliability, prestige, head turning design, etc. Thanks for your opinions. Detailed answers would be appreciated.

Answer
An Infiniti is always better then an Acura and on par with its cross country rival the Lexus. Lexus and Infiniti dominate the luxury market among the Japanese manufactures. The driving dynamics of the Infiniti are far more superior then that of the Acura & Lexus and on par with its German competitor the BMW. Acura is a good brand but when its come to Luxury & Performance Infiniti has always dominated the title for being the best performing luxury Japanese manufacturer in the segment. The G37 has a sportier exterior and more powerful engine then the Acura TL. The aesthetic design of the G37 is also more appealing in my opinion, its both elegant and sporty and over all its more refined then the TL. Also Acura has never been taken seriously in the performance segment let alone in the Luxury market, they offer a great product but its not enough to sway buyers from the German market let alone buyers who have owned Lexus and Infiniti. Acura is reliable and long lasting not to mention very affordable but they simply fail to compare with their rivals in terms of design language, prestige, luxury & comfort, refinement and over all performance. Keep in mind that both Lexus and Infiniti are global brands, which means they are marketed as Luxury brands Intentionally with the exception of Japan while Acura is known as a rebadged Honda world wide. Acura only exist in the North American market which gives them no sense of pedigree at all. The Lexus ES is a comfortable sedan but it screams OLD HAG, its not a performance car and it doesn't drive any where near as well as the Infiniti not to mention the ES has a less powerful engine. Nevertheless the Lexus does feel more plush and refined to the touch. The G37 has a 3.7 liter V6 328 HP engine which makes it the most powerful entry level sedan in the market competing against the BMW 3 series, Audi A4, Lexus IS & Mercedes C-class. The G37 is basically the closest Japanese rival to the BMW 3 series. The Lexus ES is a refined and comfortable ride but its boring to drive not to mention boring to look at. The prime difference between Lexus & Infiniti is that Lexus is a Luxury sport "appearance" car while the Infiniti is a Luxury sport "performance" car. Infiniti is a brand with an identity that lies between the sportier offerings of a BMW and the plush indulgence of a Lexus. After all the Infiniti is the main alternative to German engineering. Typically the Infiniti brand attracts a much younger clientele due to its sports oriented background the same way BMW & Audi intend to be all while its competitors like Lexus & Mercedes attract a much older demographic. Infiniti and Lexus have proven themselves to be viable competitors against the Germans. Infiniti has been the only manufacturer that has been able to come to par with the excellent driving dynamics of a BMW which is why Infiniti receives more cross shoppers from BMW then any other luxury brand they compete with. Lexus & Infiniti are the top tier of Japanese Luxury cars in the auto industry. Lexus is a reliable product but admittedly they have no soul when it comes to performance, the Infiniti boast more charisma while the Lexus although a refined car leaves you feeling uninspired. Infiniti is essentially the Japanese BMW the same way Lexus is the Japanese Mercedes Benz. The G37 is basically the equivelant to a BMW 3 series with a Japanese aesthetic, it performs impeccably and its also the class leader of standard horsepower among any of its rivals. When it comes to performance in the entry level luxury segment the BMW 3 series & Infiniti G37 are the class leaders among all their rivals. The G37 is the most logical choice of the three.

What class are BMW cars?

joey

Tuner Cars
Muscle Cars
Exotic Cars

Answer
luxury cars.
they are not muscly by nature (not american, lacks engine size and weight). they are not exotic cars as they lack the rarity of a ferrari or lamborghini. and tuner cars refer to regular cars that have been modified by the owner. typically these are japanese cars for their low price and ease of customization but are not limited to just being japanese.

if you modify a BMW it can become a tuner car but right out of the factory a BMW is a luxury car.

Which Luxury Car Is Better?

.*()*.

am looking for, fun to drive, reliability, and the most bang for the buck for under 30k. Which of these is a better pick & why ? past experiences would help. Both 2010! *Acura TSX Or Volvo S40? am 19.

Answer
I would suggest you span your options. Although the most obvious choice in terms of performance within the two would most likely be Acura although when compared to its rivals its not so fast. The Volvo S40 is known for being one of the safest cars and manufacturer in the auto Industry, despite volvo being a good car, "luxury" is not so much an area that volvo benefits from, the Volvo is more of an economical safe affordable vehicle when compared to other luxury brands. Volvo is a brand that focuses on saftey and comfort but they are deprived in the design and performance department. Many will say "to each his own" but Volvo is never really compared to BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Audi & MB despite being a very good car. If I where you I would go the extra mile for an Audi A4 or an Infiniti G37 sedan. The Infiniti G37 sedan is known for having class leading horspower at 328 HP standard for an entry class G37 sedan opposed to its rivals with trims that begin at 204-230 HP which include BMW, Lexus, Acura, Mercedes and Audi. The 2010 G37 starts at $33,250 and it is very well equipped standard. The 2010 Audi A4 starts at $31,000 it bost 211 HP and the interior is deffinetly a step up from Acura and Volvo. If your caught dead between these two I would then say go for the TSX, youll get more bang for your buck in the Acura. All Acuras come standard with bi-xenon headlights which you would have to opt for in the Volvo. The interior is modernized in the Acura oppsed to the classical bland design of the Volvo. The Acura produces 201 Hp while the Volvo produces 168 HP. So basically the Acura is the better choice.

New Car for me!????????

Xing

I'm purchasing my first car

What do you guys recommend?

I'd want something new that cost under 30k.

I don't need a big car since I'm a young guy even a 2 seater would do.

I want something sporty I've been looking into ford mustangs...

I don't want a toyota or something boring?

Are there any luxury brands like infiniti lexus etc that i can get new for under 30k?

Well what do you guys suggest?

Answer
mustangs' a good solid choice.

i'm just gonna shooot some out and you can check them out yourself as car preference is a matter of opinion.

nissan 370z
honda s2000 (if this is the one you want, hurry and get one because production ended this year)
dodge challenger
chevrolet camaro
ford mustang
mazda miata
honda civic si
scion tc
cheverolet cobalt SS
mitsubishi lancer ralliart
subaru wrx

as for luxury brands,
you can get a bmw 1 series, but.... personally u might as well save a couple more thousand, and get a proper 3 series. otherwise i cant think of a new luxury car under 30k

if you dont mind getting a used car, you have a lot more options

18 year old Moving To NYC?

Lou_Fresh

Hello, i am a recent High School Graduate From Miami,Florida. I graduated with a 3.1 GPA and am looking forward to attend Boroughs of Manhattan Community College for two years, then on too Brooklyn College and hopefully grad school for Journalism. My parents split with a bitter divorce, so i have little income from my mother, I have 2 Years Job Experience At Starbucks. And i have $20,000 in savings. My tuition will be payed with other money. I am wondering if i can survive in the city, with a 1 Bedroom apartment and minimal luxuries. The apartment can be in close proximity of Manhattan but Brooklyn,Queens, etc. is fine. Anyone can spot me the cost of living (apartments) cost of food etc. Also as an extra note, i will not have a car, but use public transportation.
Thanks
Will CHOOSE BEST ANSWER!

Answer
Oh wow.. i just thought about doing the same thing a couple months ago.. well I still am except I am moving to San Francisco instead of NYC. I am a high school senior and am moving out of Florida ASAP when I graduate.. I don't want to go to college here and I am going to be paying for college myself. Ive actually lived in NYC though and can tell you about this plan of yours.

First of all.. you WILL need roommates. You can live in a good apartment with 3 other people in a nice neighborhood in brooklyn or queens for about 650-700 including utilities (your share) a month. You wont be able to live in Manhattan... MAYBE, and I mean MAYBE you could afford a roommate situation in Harlem or Washington Heights for the same price but they wont be as good of quality as in Queens or BK. But if you want to go to Brooklyn College you must live in BK because the commute from anywhere else would be too much. Plus, Washington heights is somewhat far away from midtown and downtown but it is close to City College, if you want to go there (cheap 4 year school).

Monthly MTA card is 76, its great.. works for subways and buses and has unlimited uses for the month. Food will be maybe in the 200 range if you are single and eat normally. Food in NYC is normally priced in the boroughs, but is outrageous in manhattan.. actually, everything is overpriced in manhattan. You will also need to budget for new clothes because the weather in NYC is in two extremes, very hot in the summer (like miami, and yes, I believe there is humidity), and very cold in the winter. I would budget 50 a month for clothes for at least the first year. You will also need to budget for savings to use on health related things.. like saving 50 bucks a month to use on your yearly dentist visit or your yearly eye exam. You also will need to budget in at least 100 for other expenses and money you spend on extra stuff. You need to be realistic.. you may say you wont spend any extra cash but you always will. Going to McDonalds, vending machines, buying a magazine, or anything like that is considered extra. Also budget in 80 bucks a year for a PO box.

I believe all-in-all you will need to be making at least 500 a month along with your rent in order to survive minimally, so about 1200 a month after taxes.

A couple tips:

Dont live in new jersey. Establish a residence in NYC and keep your rental receipts and pay stubs. If you live in NY for a year you can pay instate tuition at colleges there.

Support yourself and take minimum amounts of $$ from your mom. If you can prove you pay all your own expenses you qualify for instate tuition and possibly financial aid.

Stay away from some of the east neighborhoods in BK. East New York, Brownsville, Flatbush, and Bed-Stuy are cheap to live in but are ghettoes! Queens and Manhattan are safe, Bronx is so-so, but BK has some of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the whole city.

Be careful in what ethnic enclave you live. Some neighborhoods are so ethnic that every sign except the street signs are in Chinese/Korean/Greek/Spanish. You might be familiar with this though, coming from Miami.

Dont blow your savings if you are trying to go to school.. you have enough saved up for tuition at a college in NYC. Work as little as you need to in order to pay the bills. No more than 25-30 hours a week. It would be foolish to try to live on your own (without roommates) just because you have so much saved up.

Try finding a job as server or busser and gain experience in the serving industry. It is VERY lucrative in manhattan. 2 years experience can land you a good job at a restaurant where you can make good tips.

BTW.. I've heard that Brooklyn College (gorgeous campus btw), while somewhat easy to get into, has a hard curriculum so make sure you can balance work and school efficiently.

Foreign/sports/Luxury auto rentals in upstate NY?

Josh

Anyone know where I can rent a luxury/sports/ or foreign auto in the Albany NY/Saratoga NY area for a wedding this upcoming september? I have contacted the local rental car agencies and the best I can do through them is a mustang convertible.

Answer
I've lived in the area for years, and I can tell you your choices are limited. Hertz has the best selection, but the best you'll do is a Volvo S60 or maybe a Dodge Charger. If you really want to go whole hog, Gotham Dream Cars in NYC will deliver things like Ferraris, Porsches and Aston Martins to Albany for you, but the 911 Turbo is their cheapest, at $795/day + a $65 "membership fee", although they do give 10% off for two months' advance booking, and they might deliver free to Albany.

NYC has a number of those outfits...good luck! If there's a particular vehicle for which you're looking, try posting your request on a club bulletin board. Many people have success doing that.

What is your favorite sports car?

seeking kn

Answer
almost none of these cars are "sports" cars except for the Lambo and the M3. Well I guess the Ferrari's are considered sports cars. The Cuda is a muscle car. the Vspec MIGHT be considered a sports car. It's the only real thing Japan has contributed to the real sports car world-that and the new GT-R that just came out this year. but in any case my fave sports car would be the McLaren F1. It's the fastest natrually aspired car on the market. Naturally aspired means that it doesn't have any turbos or superchargers. It's just run like a regular car.

Why does Japan gives America watered down version of theirs sports cars?

Examples Evo didint have ay of the computerized differentials until years later.
why are they so stingy with their Nissan Gtrs? They finally sell them here. i'm sure they could have sold the previous versions here but too lazy to modify the car to meet our standards

Answer
Needing to meet strict California emission regulations, and trying to keep the price down to sell cars.

Most Honda engines here in the US have slightly lower compression ratios than over in Japan, which often results in a 8-10hp different. That is purely done to meet the emission regulations of California.

As for the missing electronics and such, it is due to the lower sale prices. I have a Best Motoring video about the Tokyo Auto Salon from years ago, where the representative from Mitsubishi states this as the reason. They wanted to keep their price tag down, so they could sell more, and also to better compete with their biggest rival... the Subaru STI.

The Nissan GT-R's are a very strange thing though. While they claim 480hp, this is known to not be the case. Each engine is hand built, so power varies between each engine. Nissan is also simply a big fat lair :) . 480hp is well below what the cars really make, especially when you realize that this rating isn't even supposed to be taken as 480hp at the wheels. They've been dyno'd to right around 480 WHEEL horsepower! This is the US model by the way.

Edit: For "Steven G". All horsepower specs given by ANY car manufacturer is the horsepower in brake horsepower, which is the horsepower at the flywheel/crank. This is common knowledge for any automotive enthusiast. On the site that YOU linked to, they even state that it's 480hp, not 480whp or 405hp at the crank, but 480hp.
http://www.gtrnissan.com/specs.en.us.html - Official site linked off of Nissan's official site.

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2009/nissan/gt_r/specifications/index.html

For my claim of 480whp, here are some links of tests done:

So who needs to do some research?

Hello, I come from a wealthy family in Virginia Beach and I am about to get my first car. Please give me some options as to what you think i should get. Note: I am into luxury!!! No chargers or F-150's or stuff like that.
I am not spoiled. I work hard everyday and my parents reward me. I don't if this changes any thing or not, but we currently have an 08 escalade , an 07 range rover, an 05 expidition, and a 08 mercedes sl 55 amg. And we have lots of problems with the SUVs
I currently have a 4gpa and plan on being a doctor or take the family business. I work hard.

whats the best 2009 car under $50,000?

cb24

into more sport cars, coupes are preferred.

Answer
Definitely Nissan's killer 370Z. Fast, nimble, great looker, and the best bang for buck of 2009 so far for sure. A close second would be BMW's twin-turbo'd V6 135i, but the 370Z's faster and more nimble. The 135i would have more luxury though.

Is buying a sports car from NJ a bad thing b/c of potential rust?

MKR

I'm looking for a used sports car. One car that has all the options I want happens to be located on the east coast, where it snows. I live in California. This particular car is very rare, only 200 on autotrader.com in the entire nation. Is buying a car from NJ a really bad idea because of potential rust/salt problems? As a California guy I really don't know but a buddy of mine said to stay away from all east coast and Florida cars. The thing is, this car has all the options i want, has only 20k miles, and the pics of the car look flawless, like it had only been driven in summer months. Also, is there a way to tell if the car has rust, some kind of inspection? Is it easy to spot? Thanks for your help!!
details of car: mercedes, 2003, sl500
correction: sl55, not sl500 ...thanks

Answer
True. New Jersey is in what is called the 'rust belt', and is bad for collector cars. However, it depends on the type of car and it's age. If you're wanting a brand new cobra mustang, then you're probably ok. However, if it's a 1966 Shelby Mustang, then I would have it checked out by a Mustang specialist, first. Could be that it is a Florida car and stored in the winter. Do you research before you plunk down your money.

What is your Jersey Number?

Have family cars almost caught up to sports cars when it comes to acceleration from 0-60?

Fufu

There used to be a big difference between the two 30 years ago, but today they're almost equal.

Answer
Kinda but not really. Some everyday cars do have as much horsepower and torque as sports cars these days but they don't perform the same. For example the Cadillac Escalade has more horsepower than the BMW X6 50i. And they have similar dimensions. But the Escalade can not perform like the X6. So today sports cars outperform everyday cars more than having stronger engines.

P.s. all real sports cars are terrible on gas. Not a single one gets over 20mpg

Can you help me out?:

I need help in buying a new car?

Why?

I am planning to buy a "new" car this month. Here are my options.

1) Acura TL
2) Acura TSX
3) BMW 335i
4) BMW 328i

Which one do you think is the best option? In terms of budget, I researched the price of each, and I think I can afford it. Also, I have an old car - which I don't plan on trading.

Is it cheaper to buy a car in NJ, PA or someplace else (within drivable distance - I live in NJ)? Are sales people in PA a lot nicer than in NJ (i.e. are they gullible)?

How about the APR/Interest Rates? How much does it usually cost? 2%, 4%,etc? Is it negotiable?

Lease terms - can I go greater than 60 months? say, 72 months or more?

Usually, dealers have MSRP, can I negotiate a price lower than the MSRP?

What is an "invoice price" and MSRP?

What are the things I need to take into consideration while in the dealer (warranties, etc)?

I know they are going to sell a lot more nuisance than I actually need - any idea what are those?

Thanks for all your help! =)
Also, In terms of negotiating the right price - things I need to take into consideration?
Yep, this is my first time to buy a new car at all. =)
EDIT: ***Lease*** Terms - can I go greater than 60 months? say, 72 months or more? - I meant, Finance Terms... Sorry for the confusion.
Where can I find the invoice price for a car?

Answer
You've never bought a new car have you? All of those cars are great luxury sports sedans. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

Buy the car in the jurisdiction that has the lowest sales taxes. On a $35,000 purchase 1 or 2 % difference in sales tax can mean a lot in terms of added costs.

There is no such thing as a gullible car salesman. They are a lot smarter than you are. They know their business and they have the upper hand in any and all negotiations.

Interest rates are based on your credit score and credit worthiness. Secure your financing through an independent service before walking into the dealership. Don't let the dealer finance you. It's just another way for him to make a profit off of you.

Leasing a car for 60 or 72 months is just a stupid idea. Forget it. Leasing is a short term financial decision not a long term one. If you are going to keep a car for 72 months you need to buy the car, not lease it. Leases generally go for 24 to 36 months. Car leases are notoriously bad financial transactions. Avoid car leases. If you can't afford to purchase the car using a traditional loan, you are looking at a car that is too expensive to own.

You can and should negotiate for less than MSRP. MSRP is the highest point on the price scale. You want to pay close to or under Invoice. MSRP is Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price. It represents the most the dealer can charge for that car unless they add aftermarket premiums to the car. Invoice is the price that the dealer pays for the car. Of course there are several hold back and incentive programs that reduce this cost for the dealer that you never see but on paper the invoice cost represents what the dealer pays for the car.

Forget extended warranties. The manufacturers warranty is all you need.

Any item the dealer tries to add to the price, forget it. All they do is represent profit for the dealership and are not things you need to have. Any accessories, added options, warranties, paint protectors and fabric conditioners are all pure profit for the dealer. Don't discuss them, reject them all, tell them you are uninterested and don't buy any of them. Any additional charges added to the price after the manufacturers price on the window sticker is pure profit. They call these addendum stickers "Sucker Stickers" for a reason. Because if you agree to purchase these items you are a sucker. Make them give them to you free or ask them to be removed from the car. Or find a car without a sucker sticker.

Answer
2000 and up Nissan Maxima offered more than 200 HP and can be had in your price range. Check these for an idea what's out there.

Here's the next thing I'd consider. The 1998-2002 Accord had 200 HP in V6 trim, coupe or sedan. Here's a few.

Last on my list, something American. Never sold here with less than 200 HP.

You have a nice budget and a nice range of vehicles to choose from. I'm a little on the practical side, so I chose cars that are either sedans or large coupes. There are plenty of other options, so happy hunting!

Bugatti Veyron Super Sports... i have a car project to do and i would greatly appreciate it
:)

Answer
Bugatti Veyron Super Sport ($2.2 mil)
However, we might as well go all the way to the top with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, starting around $2.2 million. The buyer still has to come up with a $360,000 down payment, endure a rigorous back ground check, and shell out the delivery costs from France. With taxes and all the other hidden fees out of the way, you could be looking at $2.6 mil just to get it out the door. But who has that kind of money lying around, so you decide to finance it.

A five year loan with a 10% APR will cost you around $42,000 a month, practically twice the price of admission for the 16.4. On top of this, expect around $20,000 for routine maintenance, $7000 for gas, and $10,000 for auto detailing every year. Every 10,000 miles Bugatti recommends the wheels and tires should be replaced at $50,000 a set. A climate controlled, high security garage is also recommended, bringing maintenance costs up to as much as $300,000 a year.

With insurance premiums over $3,000 for the Super Sport, your final price with everything said and done would be a minimum of $3.3 million. And thatâs just for the first five years.

Better shake that piggy bank just a little bit harder!

Are 2 doors almost always sport/sporty cars?

L

i'm not talking about trucks here..but sedans or whatever you call it. Are they almost always sports car? Are there regular cars that have only 2 doors?

Answer
The short answer is YES, mostly.
The full answer is NO, there are/were MANY 2-door cars (especially in the past) in which having two doors was a necessity, not a choice, such as the very small cars (Goggomobil), very cheap cars (Trabant).
There were even 1-door cars (BMW Isetta), opening in front only.
Today we have the Smart Car, the Toyota iQ and similar small cars where there is no room for the 3rd and 4th door.
Those are all BUT sports cars - the common feature is minimalism of weight, space and use.
Then there's the entire coupé family of cars, essentially a short-cab, two-door version of sedans, even big ones. There were popular in the past (1950s, mostly) and may enter the sports/leisure group.
In some countries you could buy just 4-door cars - the 2-doors were not even produced (France), in others there were both (Germany), with many 2-door non-sport cars (sedans, even sw's).
Most of these are situations from the past, the current trend is towards customized bodies and versions with either 2- or 4-door, the choice in the same model is becoming rare. So the industry can charge a sports model more than a 4-door one.

What luxury cars get great gas mileage?

Ara

Looking for 2010, 2011 or 2012 luxury car for around 30,000 with close to 40 mpg. My wife and I don't want to settle for a Prius or Civic, but we do want good MPG because we drive so much. Is this possible without spending too much more?

Answer
If you take a closer look at the Prius, you'll see that you aren't "settling". It has many of features only found in luxury cars. It's a mid-sized car, not a compact like the Civic, so room is not a problem.

Note that decent luxury cars start at about $45,000.

My 2004 Prius has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 120,000 trouble-free miles I've driven it so far.

My 2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles
2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles
2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16174 miles
2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18384 miles
2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles
2009 -- 61.4 mpg 16177 miles
2010 -- 65.2 mpg 12134 miles

Are your chances of buying/leasing a luxury car ($45,000) affected after a short sale?

My wife and I make a combined $130,000 per year. We bought a new house in 2006 while leaving the old one for rent. The tennant left and now i was forced to go through a short sale with the bank. Does this affect our credit? Will this affect me buying car? Our monthly payments on our house are $5000. Will I be able to buy my dream BMW or Mercedes Benz? We are both in our mid 40s

Answer
You already spend almost 50% of your gross income on a house, when average should be generally 28-32%.

Buying or leasing a depreciating asset like a $45K vehicle while you are having money issues is beyond moronic.
You are already having issues with your debt. The answer is not to take on more debt.

A short sale does affect your credit, but not as much as a foreclosure would.
You would probably not qualify for a lease in financial your situation and considering the debt/income ratio on the house.

Best sports car for under 30,000?

justdontkn

In everyones opinion whats the best car (preferably a sports car/2 door)to make an investment in that will be fast, have low maintinence, nice looking exterior AND interior etc. ? Im looking for something under $30,000.

Answer
No sports car is low maintenance. If you don't like the idea that dumping $1000 worth of tires into it every two years (or less, depending on your driving style) is considered basic upkeep, move along. However, if you don't mind expensive brakes, RWD (most likely), and the expensive service these cars require, you should have plenty of options. Granted, they're mostly going to be used cars, but to varying degrees.

Almost any slightly used (2003-2008) Mercedes AMG will destroy its BMW counterpart. BMWs are also notoriously unreliable and are simply not as well-built or powerful as Mercedes.

I personally do not care for the Audi lineup one bit but the TT is a sporty and inexpensive little coupe (or convertible). You can find a 2006-2007 for under $30,000. The 2008s are going for about $32,000 which can be haggled down with no problem. They are leftover stock and dealers just need to clear the lots at this point. They'll practically give them away.

The Mercedes SLK is not expensive either and a 2006 SLK55 AMG will run about $27,000 (search autotrader.com to see for yourself). Just keep in mind that the non-AMG version of the SLK isn't worth buying.

For under $30,000 you should also consider:
2007-2008 (maybe) Nissan 350Z
2008 Infiniti G37 coupe (not recommended)
2003-2004 Lexus SC430 (very sexy)
2006-2007 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible
2006-2007 BMW Z4
2003 Maserati Cambiocorsa (though it will not have inexpensive maintenance by any stretch of the imagination)
2005-2006 Cadillac XLR

Buying a sports car?

SImokin

Hello,

I have decided to purchase a sports car many months ago. After doing large amounts of research I have narrowed it down to the following cars.

Honda S2000
Nismo 350z
Evo 10 GSR

If someone has had experience with any of these cars please tell me:
1. how fun it is to drive
2. performace.
3. Reliability

Thanks

BTW

I am buying a new car.

Answer
They are all good cars, but if I were you I'd avoid the Mitsubishi. They have a bad resale value and are no where near as reliable as the Honda or Nissan. Also JD Power shows Mitsubishi dealer service satisfaction is among the worst. I looked at the cars you did, and ended up with a new Mazda Miata GT. I liked the handling better than any of the others. It's very comfortable, plenty fast, and I get just under 30mpg average. Just something to think about.

Going to be getting a new sport car.?

I have about a 10000 budget, and ive been looking at the following, 300zx tt, An eclipse( if i can find one for a bufget), a 1995-2004 mustang gt, A skyline (again if i can find a decent one in budget, A Mazda rx7. Those are a few ive looked at, any opiinions? how are they for speed and performance? what one would you sugest? and any other sugestions on othe cars are apreciated.
what one would be the fastest in a stop light race? what one on turns, and which ones are best for drifting?

Answer
The 300ZX is a wonderful car, but is a huge pain to do work on it.

An Eclipse would be ok, but make sure you have the transmission looked at before buying, they do have transmission problems.

A Mustang wouldn't be so bad, but since you are only going to pay 10K it will probably be high mileage.

If you live in the USA, then Skylines are not sold here. GT-Rs have only been sold in the USA. I've never personally seen a Skyline outside of the USA.

A RX-7, those are pretty old, you could probably buy a RX-8 with that money. The main problem with the RX's is that they are not fuel efficient, not by any means, ans the RX-7 is know for also burning oil, they are truly amazing cars. I just test drove a RX-8 and the handling was just amazing, but the rotary engine was keeping me back from buying it. I personally liked the 9K RPM redline in the RX-8, but again not worth the money.

If I were you, I would also look into a 240SX and really fix it up, those can be made into hella fast cars.

Good luck man

What makes these car brands diffrent from eachother?

CatsForeve

Hi I am working a project about Germany's car brands, and I was wondering: "What makes these car brands different from one and another?" These are the brands that I'm working on:
Audi
Mercedes Benz
BMW
Opel
Volkswagen
Porsche
What makes these car brands different from each other in: Gas Millage Wise, Eco-Friendly Wise, Popular-Wise, and Efficient wise. I don't need to know the prices, of the brands. What makes each and individual of these brands special in their own way? Which one of these car brands do you prefer the most and why? Which one of these brands are the most popular in: Germany, the USA, or World Wide? If you could list the TOP 3 Out of the 6 brands that are given, which 3 would you pick?

Answer
Porsche is obvious. It started out making race cars only, then they made sports cars for production for the next 50+ years until they decided to make the Porsche Cayenne SUV out of nowehere and now the Panamera sedan.

Porsche makes the best German sports cars and some of the best sports cars in the world. Ignition keys are traditionally on the left side of the steering wheel because in the old days, car races started off on foot. The racers ran to their cars, got in, started the car and drove away. With the key on the left side, they were able to use their right hands to shift into 1st gear, saving them 1-2 seconds of time in the start of the race. Also, they typically use a lighter orange color for the interior lights.

Volkswagen. VW was created under order of Adolf Hitler, who wanted a peoples car to be used for everyone and everything including war. Volkswagen translates to peoples car. He ordered Ferdinand Porsche(later to create his own brand Porsche) to design a car that can float in water, is efficient, cheap, reliable, and light weight, therefore the Volkswagen Beetle, or Bug, was born. VW made the Beetle for at least 30 years with virtually an unchanged design, much like Jeep did with the Wrangler. The 1970's made them more popular because of certain cars. The VW Van or bus, which was popular with hippies, and the VW Rabbit and Rabbit GTI(now known as Golf GTI). The Rabbit/Golf came to be known as one of the worlds best selling cars and Europes top selling car in the 2000's. The GTI is considered the original hot hatch. Because of it, cars like the Honda Civic Si, Mazdaspeed 3, Nissan Sentra SE-R, and Lancer Ralliart exist today. During a time of the oil crises, the Rabbit GTI was the solution for muslce cars. Lightweight, nimble handling, small engine, good speed. Today, Volkswagen is one of the most modified cars in the world with the largest fanbase. Most modified Volkswagens are Golfs and Golf GTI's. VW later bought Audi, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Seat, and some of Porsche. At this time, Volkswagen is #2 as the largest car company in the world. In the U.S., they are not as popular. But in Europe and Germany, they are very popular.

BMW uses dark orange interior lights. BMW was a motorcycle company and made smaller cars like the BMW Isetta. Later on, they started getting involved in racing and created more luxurious premium cars and the BMW M division of high performance cars. They are well known for being some of the sportiest luxury cars with their renowned hanlding and steering feel. Every BMW car ever made has the same lima beans front grill, their trademark design. The M division of BMW is what really made them famous.

Audi is well known for the Quattro. The Quattro is the first All Wheel Drive car and the first AWD car used in Rally races. The AWD system was named after the car so now it is called Quattro AWD. Because of Audi, cars like the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo exist. Audi is famous for having the best AWD systems and best interiors in terms of ergonomics. Everything is in the right place. All of their cars are luxury cars with engines developed for some performance and speed.

Mercedes Benz. Karl Benz is the founder of Mercedes Benz and the inventor of the gasoline engine. He created the first gas powered car. At that time in the 1800's, cars were powered by steam engines. Ever since then, Mercedes have been cars offered with the latest and newest technology. Being the first German brand and the most luxurious and expensive brand for many years made it a popular well known brand.

I don't know much about Opel except that is it owned by GM, an American company, and that Opel do not sell many cars. They do not sell any cars at all in the U.S. But the Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice is a copy of the Opel GT.

For me:
1. Porsche
2. VW
3. Audi
4. BMW
5. Mercedes
6. Opel

To "Spammer"...Why is Lexus your FAVORITE car?...and why do you spend so much time in the Lexus Area?

EL "W"

Lexus is a well Made car and the leading Luxury vehicle in the US for the last 9 years running. according to "spammer" They are Re Badged Toyotas because that is the parent company, He is Ignorant and if his theory held true then..

If you Drove an Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, or Porsche, You would be Driving a... VOLKSWAGEN. so enjoy your V-Dub Gallardo

If you Drove a Jaguar, Landrover or Volvo, you would be driving a...FORD. Tell THAT to the guy that payed $115,000 for a Supercharged Range Rover.

All of you dodge Neon guys can hold your heads high because if you had one between 1999-2007 Guess what you were driving?... A Brand New Mercedes Benz!!

If you Are driving a Dodge Charger your Suspension actually came from the Mercedes E Class , and The Pacifica takes its suspension from the E Class as well. The Crossfire is a Rebadged SLK.

There are no BAD cars in the Luxury Segment. Just Different ones. I sell Lexus But I've owned BMW's and Mercedes in the Past.

Answer
At work we were debating that people marry brands like been fanatics of Sports Teams and such. We search around the web and end up with the Urban Dictionary. The word Lexsucks is there, so we found it quiet funny and we gave it a try. So we picked on Lexsucks.

Part of the debate was that people does not realize that technology comes from all over the places and is applied to every vehicle in the market and cars are no more that just Products. How the physiological impact of just pure image versus what are you really buying. For example, self parking came in 1992 on a VW Concept Vehicle called Futura, Toyota was selling a Prius with that type of technology in England back in 2003. So is not really new this around. Is true, a lot of Chryslers has DB components on them and people says, that Chrysler is a bad car, DB no.

Also, how people forget easy the stuff from the past. The Oldsmobile Aerotech made big news, broke many speed records between 1987-92. The engine was a 4 Cly called the Quad4. For people that knows cars and history of them, it resemblance an Offenhauser Formula engine. Pretty advance for its time. Now its later reincarnation is the Ecotech on the Cobalt SS it will have VVT (that sounds like Toyota?). Still the same Quad4 but with changes and added technology in GM Delta Platform that was designed in Germany (sounds Autobahn build?). But since is badge as Chevrolet people thinks is crap. Any domestic car people says it sucks, well Honda and Toyota, Hyundai has plants here and they are build here, so I guess they are domestics too? No wonder Toyota is in NASCAR now, duh !

Ford had on the Taurus SHO a set of intake and heads build by Yamaha, impressive sedan. I raced one with a 91 Camaro RS that I was driving, no the top of the line (just a 305), sure hung with me, did not got me but it was right just next to my quarter panel.

Another good example is the Toyota Matrix and rebadge as Pontiac Vibe with different body panels and cosmetics. I heard many times over that Pontiac Vibe sucks and do not dare to compare it with a Toyota Matrix... is quiet amusing.

Is all based about presentation and how you target your audience. A lot of people wait and eat the latest Car and Driver / Motor Trend latest reviews. I used to do that until I started learning that components that make every car comes from so many places in the world see what are the intentions of the manufacturers, how is designed, where all came from, what technologies are involved, and the best, I test drive it and I make the choice, nobody chooses for me. There is a saying among techs "Use the right tool for the right job" Most people do not use the full potential of their vehicle, but one thing is true, they abuse the living hell of them.

I have been traveling a lot, from Korea to Japan, Spain, Germany even Kenya. Seen the world pretty good. I need to go to Aussie land... Will love to drive a Holden just to add it to my list of cars. Oh wait ! The Sigma platform is the one in the Caddy??? I guess I do not have to flight to down under. One thing is true, the Autobahn does not have a speed limit, but has a recommended limit of 80MPH / 130KPH. We sustained 100MPH / 160MPH for about 10 mins before we had to slow down.

Like this ( see link below ) sure they had a lot of room on this one. Look at the trucks on the right side, the Autobahn is not all 3 or 4 lanes, is also 2 lanes and is dangerous to drive with all you can get out of your car. Not because your car can not handle it, is other cars that are going at 80MPH. The Autobahn is pretty congested too.

BWM HQs has a nice building in München also the DB dealer over there is awesome it looks like glass matchbox set. Multifloors with these windows that displays all their cars. Never seen a dealer that way.

Anyway, we had good laughs at work with Big Carp and Mr Sergei (BTW, where is he? Or is a rebadge Big Carp?). One piece of advice, who angers you, owns you.

And yes, I choose to drive an 03 Chevy, so far is a well maintain, paid off, trouble free car. Drove a 94 Grand Prix for 160,000 trouble free and just got rid of it or lets say, gave it away to a relative as a second car.

What we came to conclusion is that people do Marry Brands, like to take sides even if is a rebadge product and they do not know what is made of. That goes with appliances, computers, etc... Most people that drive a Lexus (for example) does not know for sure what they buy, just wants an image. Some to say I can afford this and you do not. Vanity is the biggest seller ever! And most people that knows what really is under the hood to the nuts and bolts can not afford it. Is not that funny?

My dad always said, a well advertised product with the right price to target certain clientèle will sell well. He proved that one day. He sold 25, $15 pad locks at $75 a piece. he said if he sold them at $15 people will say that is an expensive pad lock. At $75, it has to be a hell of a pad lock, well designed and bullet proof........ At the end, they sold in one day !!! I laugh hard on that one =))

BTW, my fiance has an 07 VW Bettle with an Audi engine, well engineer little car, does not cost a fortune and sure is a fun car to drive. Very underestimated car. Beside, the 1st car I ever bought was a 72 Beetle, my dad bought a 64 Bettle brand new and an 85 Audi 5000S, my 2 best friends bought Beetles (one was a Super Beetle), my fiance is her 3rd Beetle. So I am not new to German cars. Also worked on my friends Daimler Benz Diesel to convert it to run with Veggie oil. Interesting project. I am truly sold on Diesel engines, watch the TDIs they are light years ahead in performance and fuel efficiency with the ability of been multi fuel.

I learned to drive on a 75 Monte Carlo and had my driver's license on it, even parallel park, no need for a Lexus auto park feature :-) The worst car I ever drove was a Prelude that was the biggest POS ever! I have license for semi trailers and motorcycles. So I drove from 2 wheels to 18 and taught people how to drive semi trailers. So mechanics does runs on me. I learn Automotives when I was just a kid with a 68 Camaro SS. Will love to get one in Hugger Orange, just for sentimental value. Worked on Aircrafts and now on Computer Networks (Linux and Windows). So a techie yes I am !

I guess is time to leave Yahoo Questions it was interesting playing around here, or just drop from time to time if I have the time again.

Note...
Hey Carppie you sure like to pop here and there too. Keep them coming fella we have fun with you and your cussing =))

Answer
1. Hope the minor will act through a guardian. A minor can do a business, but generally banks and creditors do not give credit to them.

2. Another factor which has to be taken into consideration is the level of investment. Further, whether the investment is to be made directly in business units or through acquisition of shares of companies.

3. It the minor's money is modest, one of the way will, perhaps, be to establish a grocery shop.

4. If the business is on a large scale, naturally the business has to be as per aptitude and expertise of the guardian.
