What to do in Puerto Rico?

Antonio

I want to travel to Puerto Rico and need some advice on where to stay, eat, things to do and see...let me know. Price ranges for a 5-day trip would be nice

Answer
Puerto Rico is extremely diverse. We have beaches, dry forests, rain forests, mountains and small islands. There is eco type tourism, luxury hotels and the in between local paradores, also vacation home rentals. So depending on what you love to do, what you want to do and what you can afford to do there are many different answers to your question.

If you love to shop, gamble, eat out and go out then San Juan is the obvious choice. You can stay in Condado, Old San Juan or Isla Verde. The hotels are pricey in these areas, but there are also vacation rentals for a lot less if a resort is out of your budget. While here you can visit many of the tourist attractions like Old San Juan, EL Yunque (rain forest), take day trips out to the Camuey Caverns and go south to Guavate where the famous Lechon (whole roasted pig) is made.

IF you are more into a small Intimate setting and are a lover of nature you can stay right in the rain forest, which is only a 30 min drive from San Juan. For this you do need a rental car. But I believe that anyone who wants to really see PR needs a car anyway. There are a few options for accommodations in the rain forest. http://villasevilla.net/ http://www.rainforestinn.com/ http://www.coquishideaway.com/

If you like a big beach resort with all the accommodations, including a water park and access to a ferry that takes you to a private beach for world class snorkeling then El Conquistador is your place to go. http://www.elconresort.com/

Surfing and diving your thing, then out west is where you should be in Rincon. Stay at the Rincon Beach resort http://www.rinconbeach.com/ http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/dive-desecheo-island/

Things to do in PR
Old San Juan historical sites
Bacardi rum factory tour
El Yunque Rain Forest
Camuey Caverns
Caja de Muerto
Gilligan's Island
Hiking in Toro Negrro
Cueva Ventana in Utuado
Dos Bocas, lunch on the lake
Vieques Bio Bay
BEACHES!!

Here is a great site to find ideas about day trips in Puerto Rico. http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/

What sports car is under 35000 dollars and is front or all wheel drive?

angel

Answer
Mits. Evo
Subaru WRX
Cobalt SS
Saturn ION Redline
Saturn SKY - rear wheel drive, but under 35, well worth it
Pontiac Solstice GXP - same as Saturn SKY, but looks aren't up to par.
Dodge Neon SRT4
Honda Civic SI
A used Pontiac Grand Prix GXP - 8 cylinders, front wheel drive. Bad motha jammer.
A used Chevy Monte Carlo SS - same as Grand Prix GXP

Just about every single one of those will put your head in to the back of your seat. Most of those can carry 4 passengers at neck breaking speeds.

Which car make is a better one, Lamborghini, Porsche or Ferrari?

rbkgolfsho

Which sports car is better than the others?

Answer
Personally, I prefer Lamborghini because they do their cars with much love, they have that will to make cars and are not as pretentious as Enzel Ferrari was. Yes, Ford wanted to buy ferrari, but Enzel didn't want to sell it and so, Ford designed a car called the Ford GT. No ferraris since that day was able to beat that car on track, that was humiliation for ferrari. Now second time, ferrucio lamborghini who earlier was making tractors instead of supercars wanted to work or change something about ferrari cars, but enzel...the result...HUMILIATION once against! We all know that lambos are more expensive and flashier than ferraris! After lamborghini, i prefer porsche. Why? Cos I can afford it!!! FYI porsche is a german car company. Porsche is also very beautiful car. Depends on much you spend on it. E.G if you buy a boxster for £35000, its not as nice as a £100 000 porsche! 3rd then comes ferrari.

To "Spammer"...Why is Lexus your FAVORITE car?...and why do you spend so much time in the Lexus Area?

EL "W"

Lexus is a well Made car and the leading Luxury vehicle in the US for the last 9 years running. according to "spammer" They are Re Badged Toyotas because that is the parent company, He is Ignorant and if his theory held true then..

If you Drove an Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, or Porsche, You would be Driving a... VOLKSWAGEN. so enjoy your V-Dub Gallardo

If you Drove a Jaguar, Landrover or Volvo, you would be driving a...FORD. Tell THAT to the guy that payed $115,000 for a Supercharged Range Rover.

All of you dodge Neon guys can hold your heads high because if you had one between 1999-2007 Guess what you were driving?... A Brand New Mercedes Benz!!

If you Are driving a Dodge Charger your Suspension actually came from the Mercedes E Class , and The Pacifica takes its suspension from the E Class as well. The Crossfire is a Rebadged SLK.

There are no BAD cars in the Luxury Segment. Just Different ones. I sell Lexus But I've owned BMW's and Mercedes in the Past.

Answer
At work we were debating that people marry brands like been fanatics of Sports Teams and such. We search around the web and end up with the Urban Dictionary. The word Lexsucks is there, so we found it quiet funny and we gave it a try. So we picked on Lexsucks.

Part of the debate was that people does not realize that technology comes from all over the places and is applied to every vehicle in the market and cars are no more that just Products. How the physiological impact of just pure image versus what are you really buying. For example, self parking came in 1992 on a VW Concept Vehicle called Futura, Toyota was selling a Prius with that type of technology in England back in 2003. So is not really new this around. Is true, a lot of Chryslers has DB components on them and people says, that Chrysler is a bad car, DB no.

Also, how people forget easy the stuff from the past. The Oldsmobile Aerotech made big news, broke many speed records between 1987-92. The engine was a 4 Cly called the Quad4. For people that knows cars and history of them, it resemblance an Offenhauser Formula engine. Pretty advance for its time. Now its later reincarnation is the Ecotech on the Cobalt SS it will have VVT (that sounds like Toyota?). Still the same Quad4 but with changes and added technology in GM Delta Platform that was designed in Germany (sounds Autobahn build?). But since is badge as Chevrolet people thinks is crap. Any domestic car people says it sucks, well Honda and Toyota, Hyundai has plants here and they are build here, so I guess they are domestics too? No wonder Toyota is in NASCAR now, duh !

Ford had on the Taurus SHO a set of intake and heads build by Yamaha, impressive sedan. I raced one with a 91 Camaro RS that I was driving, no the top of the line (just a 305), sure hung with me, did not got me but it was right just next to my quarter panel.

Another good example is the Toyota Matrix and rebadge as Pontiac Vibe with different body panels and cosmetics. I heard many times over that Pontiac Vibe sucks and do not dare to compare it with a Toyota Matrix... is quiet amusing.

Is all based about presentation and how you target your audience. A lot of people wait and eat the latest Car and Driver / Motor Trend latest reviews. I used to do that until I started learning that components that make every car comes from so many places in the world see what are the intentions of the manufacturers, how is designed, where all came from, what technologies are involved, and the best, I test drive it and I make the choice, nobody chooses for me. There is a saying among techs "Use the right tool for the right job" Most people do not use the full potential of their vehicle, but one thing is true, they abuse the living hell of them.

I have been traveling a lot, from Korea to Japan, Spain, Germany even Kenya. Seen the world pretty good. I need to go to Aussie land... Will love to drive a Holden just to add it to my list of cars. Oh wait ! The Sigma platform is the one in the Caddy??? I guess I do not have to flight to down under. One thing is true, the Autobahn does not have a speed limit, but has a recommended limit of 80MPH / 130KPH. We sustained 100MPH / 160MPH for about 10 mins before we had to slow down.

Like this ( see link below ) sure they had a lot of room on this one. Look at the trucks on the right side, the Autobahn is not all 3 or 4 lanes, is also 2 lanes and is dangerous to drive with all you can get out of your car. Not because your car can not handle it, is other cars that are going at 80MPH. The Autobahn is pretty congested too.

BWM HQs has a nice building in München also the DB dealer over there is awesome it looks like glass matchbox set. Multifloors with these windows that displays all their cars. Never seen a dealer that way.

Anyway, we had good laughs at work with Big Carp and Mr Sergei (BTW, where is he? Or is a rebadge Big Carp?). One piece of advice, who angers you, owns you.

And yes, I choose to drive an 03 Chevy, so far is a well maintain, paid off, trouble free car. Drove a 94 Grand Prix for 160,000 trouble free and just got rid of it or lets say, gave it away to a relative as a second car.

What we came to conclusion is that people do Marry Brands, like to take sides even if is a rebadge product and they do not know what is made of. That goes with appliances, computers, etc... Most people that drive a Lexus (for example) does not know for sure what they buy, just wants an image. Some to say I can afford this and you do not. Vanity is the biggest seller ever! And most people that knows what really is under the hood to the nuts and bolts can not afford it. Is not that funny?

My dad always said, a well advertised product with the right price to target certain clientèle will sell well. He proved that one day. He sold 25, $15 pad locks at $75 a piece. he said if he sold them at $15 people will say that is an expensive pad lock. At $75, it has to be a hell of a pad lock, well designed and bullet proof........ At the end, they sold in one day !!! I laugh hard on that one =))

BTW, my fiance has an 07 VW Bettle with an Audi engine, well engineer little car, does not cost a fortune and sure is a fun car to drive. Very underestimated car. Beside, the 1st car I ever bought was a 72 Beetle, my dad bought a 64 Bettle brand new and an 85 Audi 5000S, my 2 best friends bought Beetles (one was a Super Beetle), my fiance is her 3rd Beetle. So I am not new to German cars. Also worked on my friends Daimler Benz Diesel to convert it to run with Veggie oil. Interesting project. I am truly sold on Diesel engines, watch the TDIs they are light years ahead in performance and fuel efficiency with the ability of been multi fuel.

I learned to drive on a 75 Monte Carlo and had my driver's license on it, even parallel park, no need for a Lexus auto park feature :-) The worst car I ever drove was a Prelude that was the biggest POS ever! I have license for semi trailers and motorcycles. So I drove from 2 wheels to 18 and taught people how to drive semi trailers. So mechanics does runs on me. I learn Automotives when I was just a kid with a 68 Camaro SS. Will love to get one in Hugger Orange, just for sentimental value. Worked on Aircrafts and now on Computer Networks (Linux and Windows). So a techie yes I am !

I guess is time to leave Yahoo Questions it was interesting playing around here, or just drop from time to time if I have the time again.

Note...
Hey Carppie you sure like to pop here and there too. Keep them coming fella we have fun with you and your cussing =))

Is Marco Andretti going to Formula 1?

Q. I think he will do great if he goes and drives for a good team and will finally attact the american audience to the sport. however, i hear hes testing with honda that has not had the best set ups with the last few years.
That and is Honda going to have a sponser?

Answer
Honda Racing F1 announced in December, 2006 that Marco would be presented with an opportunity to test their Formula One car. On December 15, Andretti made his debut in a Formula One car at Jerez in Spain. Honda sporting director Gil de Ferran commented that he had done a good job.

Marco said that he had greatly enjoyed the test but also told reporters that he wishes to enter Formula One only after he has won the Indy 500. So, probably not right now. But I think that he would do quite well. We'll see.

I'm Buying a Car and need advice?

Sheebs

Hello,

I'm buying a car for the first time. and have some questions if you can answer any of them please respond

New or Used?

If used what year should I not buy before? (i.e. 89, 99, 09)?

What Make and Model:
Most dependable?
Best MPG?
Easy Maintinance I could do most of?

And any other questions I was too stupid to ask.
Also, what else should I ask?

Thank You

Answer
First narrow down to what type of car you want and can afford. Then find the model and year you want and can afford. Research the car on Edmunds.com and kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book). These sites will give you the value of the car and any reported issues with the car you're looking at. Some cars are lemons (cars that break down frequently) so it's vital that you research your car on Edmunds.com

Cars have what's called "packages". Basically they're add-ons to what the car comes with standard. Examples are: Premium Package-Adds a moon roof, more luxury options, etc. Sound Package-Updated sound system, better speakers, multi-disc changer, iPhone connector, etc. Every car is different in this respect. Features that a package offers will differ between cars.

If the car is new, there will be 0 millage. During this period, this is called the break in period. Do NOT excessively wear your car down during this period or you may damage it and shorten the life span of the car.

If the car is used, it REALLY depends on the age, brand, and if the previous owner(s) took care of it. If the maintenance was hardly done, the car is bound to have severe problems that you will have to fix. Buying a car with low millage is better than one with high millage. High millage can be considered 90,000+. Anything over 100,000+ miles you need to be VERY careful about. Most cars will develop issues over this millage.

Borrowing money is based on several things. The banks determine what the requirements are. One, you must have a job and at least have held it for a year. You must present your W2 tax form (it states how much you made in that tax year) and you're two most recent pay stubs. The bank uses this to determine if you can pay back your loan in a timely manner and that you aren't asking for excessive money. A bank will not lend you money for a Mercedes if you make minimum wage for example. If you make $7000 in a year. The bank will typically not lend you anything higher than that amount. Banks look at what's called a debt to income ratio. You want this percent to be as low as possible.

If you have no credit history or a limited one, you will be charged with a high interest rate because you are considered a "possible high risk" borrower. If you pay the loan back on time, your credit score will greatly improve.

Assuming you are pre-approved. If you're buying it from a dealer, so have to get a form stating the final costs of the car (car, taxes, document fee, etc.). If you're buying the car from someone (e.g. Craigslist, private party, etc.) you need to bring the owner of the car, the car, registration, title and safety check to the bank, the loan officer will review everything and insure that the title is properly transferred to you. They will be listed as the lien holder (those who financially own the car).

IMPORTANT: Auto loans are also subject to car requirements set by the bank. Meaning that a bank may not approve the auto loan if the car is too old (usually a car older than 10 years will not be approved), if the car has any problems (engine check light is on, etc.), and/or if the car is in poor condition.

If you have to borrow money, the lien holder (the one who lend you the money to buy the car) will require you to buy purchase total coverage insurance. Basically this will cover any and all incidents if you get into an accident.

Maintenance on any car is required if you don't want it to break down quickly. Maintenance is not just changing the oil, but maintaining everything. Examples are power steering fluid, breaking fluid, transmission fluid, clutch fluid (if it's a manual), tires, etc. Japanese cars are usually cheap to maintain. My Honda Accord Coupe costs $40 to do an oil change. European cars are more expensive to maintain and repair. I also own a Mercedes C240 and an oil change costs about $200. If you're just starting off and don't have a high income, get a Japanese car, like a Honda or Toyota.

Changing oil isn't that hard in Japanese and American cars. It's a PAIN in European cars. You can do this yourself if you know what you're doing. DO NOT use the incorrect oil or you will damaged the engine. If you're not sure, take it to the dealership. It will cost more, but they'll know what they're doing. You can find this out be reading the owner's manual (all cars come with one).

Different cars use different grades of gasoline. Make sure you are using the correct one or else it will damage the engine. My Honda uses Regular gas, the cheapest option. My Mercedes uses Super, which is the most expensive.

Overview of Owning a Car (what you'll be paying for and should consider before buying a car)
-the loan amount
-insurance on the car
-gas
-maintenance
-repairs

Luxury cars are more expensive to maintain and repair. I don't suggest buying one if it's your first car and if you have a low income.

If you do decide to buy used, get a Japanese car, if possible a Honda Accord. They're known to be one of the most reliable cars to buy. If buying used, try to get it directly from the owner. An owner will know the car better than a dealer, who's primary concern is to make money. I wouldn't buy a car that's older than 10 years old and/or with high millage.

In general, Japanese cars are cheap to maintain and fix. European cars are more expensive to maintain and fix.

why do luxury cars get bad gas milage?

Johnny

my dad has a 91 lexus LS400, and it gets 21 miles per gallon, which is even worse because you have to fill high octane gas in it, while our corolla gets 28 mpg, I checked the weight of the lexus and it is 200 pounds less than a toyota highlander, so why must they make luxury cars so heavy, does it make an impact on the performance, or handling

Answer
Luxury cars are pretty big, for more seating comfort. They have many features, for entertainment and convenience. For example, the 2007 LS460L has power rear seats! All of this adds weight, so engines need to be more powerful to haul it around, so down goes the mileage. To increase power, many companies increase the compression ratio of the engine, so the gasoline is squeezed smaller before igniting. To ensure that the gasoline doesn't ignite at the wrong time due to all this pressure, high-octane fuel is needed.

35 mpg will kill an entire car market.?

twisterx11

Do you feel that the new bill that will make all new cars have to get 35 mpg will kill a whole demographic of people. The large SUVs will be gone, the sport cars will be gone, atleast the big engine ones. Many luxury cars will be gone. I know im buying a car that gets 16 mpg during the last week of december in 2011. This is gonna suck.

Answer
The large SUVs won't be gone. They'll just be fewer. It isn't that EVERY car has to get 35 mpg. It's that the AVERAGE of all cars sold will have to be that.

In practical terms, little will have to change. People who don't actually NEED large SUVs will have to stop buying them...the SUV market would have to go back to what it was in the 1980s and earlier.

The ASTONISHING gains in horsepower without corresponding drops in fuel economy that we've seen since the early 90s will probably start to pay off. If companies start making more 100 horsepower economy cars with the same thermal efficiency they have now, and bring mid-sized cars back down to around 130-150 or so, that would be a lot of the MPG gains they need right there. And most drivers would never notice, in anything but the advertisements.

Hybrids are making inroads into SUVs and luxury vehicles, where the cost increase matters the least. That will also have an impact. Also, since quietness is valued in luxury cars, hybrid powertrains will have an added benefit.

Sports cars won't be gone. You'll probably see several changes: More hybrids (which could offer BOTH increased fuel efficiency in regular driving, AND increased performance on demand), more tall cruising gears like in the Corvette, and more cars like the Miata and MR2, which emphasize(d) handling over power.

Also, more diesels.

Look at it this way: If VW were to sell just 10,000 60MPG Lupo Diesels in the US, that would, AFAIK, make up for EVERY SINGLE LAMBORGHINI sold, something like 3 times over.

This doesn't mean the cars you like are all going away. It means a lot of little changes. The only big changes that HAVE to happen is the "GOBS of never-used power in commuter cars" thing, and SUVs as suburban daily drivers.

Is a Lincoln a nice car?

Q. Are lincolns like BMW's or Mercedes? Like people are really proud of owning those luxury cars(BMW's and Mercedes), is it okay to be proud of owning a Lincoln, like a Lincoln LS

Answer
I have always liked Lincolns since I was a kid. It was always my favorite luxury car. From the 1960s until the 1980s Lincolns were Presidential cars used by several of our Presidents(ex. JFK's limo, George Bush's 1989 Lincoln Town Car stretch). Of course it is subject to preference as some people will like the luxury imports or prefer a Cadillac. But I always thought that Lincolns were the best built, most reliable, least expensive to maintain, and best looking American luxury cars. Of course you can be proud of owning an LS, Town Car, or whatever model you choose. It is your preference. But Lincolns are a great choice and have a great luxury history. As for comparing Lincolns to BMW, Mercedes, or whatever, the Town Car is old school American luxury (the way American luxury cars were in the 1960s through the 1980s--which are my preference) and the other Lincoln models like LS, MKZ, MKS are more new style American luxury (like luxury sport sedans) which compete against the luxury imports. I hope this helps. Regards.

Looking for a 4x4 sports car?

Kat

I want a fast car preferably a manual but it has to be 4x4!! I can't afford an evo though... Just some suggestions so j can start doing my research!! Thanks

Answer
Check out the Infiniti G35X. the AWD (x) version only comes in the sedan version but it has lower insurance costs and is actually lighter than the coupe. the engine is a 3.5L V6. unfortunately, the AWD version means you have to use an automatic gearbox. if you get the RWD version you have a manual option.

if you meant that you couldnt afford a used evo (rather than a new one) then you can't afford a sports car period.

if you want you can also look at older, turbocharged Audi A4s. these are fairly popular among tuners and is quite easy to get more engine power out of them. the maintenance costs wont be as low as a mitsubishi but it will offer a luxury interior, AWD, a manual option (though rare in north america) and a hugely depreciated price.

is a toyota highlander v6 4wd considerd a luxury or expensive suv?

$$RICHYRIC

is it good in the snow and accessories.i want opinions rather than sending me to a site or just information.

Answer
It is not considered a luxury SUV. It is relatively expensive and can go up to the $40,000's. One reason for the extra cost is because it has a hybrid system (probably the only reason). It also has luxury options such as navagation (that's prabably it). For the snow question, it depends. If you are traveling on snow covered government highways and roads, almost any automobile with All Wheel Drive (or 4x4's) is good in snow. If you are planning to go off road, you should choose an SUV with a higher ground clearance, eg. Toyota 4 Runner, Fj Cruiser,Land Cruiser or Sequoia. The Highlander is lower because it is a SUV based on a car, just like the Lexus RX and therefore it provides a smoother and more comfortable ride than the other SUV's mentioned above. If you are just planning to go over snow covered roads, than the Highlander is good on snow (to get even more traction, get snow tires). If you like the Highlander but want more luxury, opt for the more expensive Lexus RX350 or the hybrid Lexus RX450h. The Highlander and RX are considered crossover SUV's because they are not true off road vehicles. They are derived from cars and provide a more comfortable ride in normal situations. Also, when traveling on snow covered roads, having an SUV doesn't mean you could go faster. A 4 wheel drive vehicle gives you better traction than cars when accelerating, but are just as vulnerable as cars when it comes to braking.

is there any 4door, 5 passenger sport (type) cars?

Timz

I'm not looking for overly expensive car just around $20000- $45000

Answer
Depends on what you mean by "sport"...

There's the Hyundai Genesis R... it's RWD and you can get it with a V8 for somewhere between 40-50k...

The Kia Optima is pretty sporty too... The SX or SX-L trims come with a 2.0L turbo4 that puts out around 275HP and also has great mileage. It's FWD though, so it's not going to be as performance oriented as a RWD vehicle. It's also pretty affordable...you can get a fully loaded EX for like 25k after the dealer knocks the price down, and it goes up into the mid-30s for the SX-L. The Optima is a really nice car though.

A BMW 3-Series is kind of sporty and within your price range, but if you start tacking on options, it can get pretty pricy.

Another option at the higher end of your price range would be a completely stripped BMW 5 Series.

I hope this helped a little! Good luck! :)

What is the best sporty car under or around 25k?

Joshua R

Im a teen that is going to have a around 25k budget when shopping for a new car soon. I want the style and look of a sports car, inside and out, but not something that will break the bank. Any suggestions? Ive been looking at the Mistubishi Eclipse, Mini Cooper, Volkswagen Jetta so far...
Just fyi, I do live in the reletive NE of the US, so a convertible is out of the question. Any car w/4WD is definatly a plus...
I like the larger car suggestions, but i dont want an SUV. So between 2-seats, 5 max. keep the suggestions coming, im already liking a few of them

Answer
I would go with the Subaru WRX. All wheel drive, sporty yet still good on gas.

Car shipping Nigeria?

xyzed23

how much would it cost to ship a 2007 BMW 7-Series to Nigeria from the DC area??

Answer
Some of the responses to this simple question are plain absurd and downright idiotic. The individual simply asked how much it costs to ship the vehicle and not your opinion.

For luxury vehicles of that category, I am not sure especially with import duty charges at Apapa or Tin Can Island ports. but I have noticed on many Nigerian forums some suggestions (especially from the DC Metro where many reside)

I could suggest some but for information integrity purposes, try and do an online search, focusing on the main companies before asking around. Word of mouth is usually the way to go.

I found this link for you to try and have an idea what others are paying (or suggesting) http://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-22497.0.html

A friend did suggest that it could cost almost $2000 to clear customs in Lagos. Whew...sounds a lot but as I said, you might get better information by asking people who ship cars to Nigeria.

Best of luck.

PS. If you do not have full information on the buyer, be cautious and do a detailed check due to incidences of fraud in Nigeria. If you are simply shipping to a family member or for your personal use, I guess you are covered.

What is a safe and reliable car?

Missy

Under $10,000. Volvo is fairly "safe", but Toyota is "reliable". I was thinking about getting a Toyota Avalon. Are these good cars?

Answer
Buick ties with Toyota's luxury Lexus brand in the rankings on our firm's latest Vehicle Dependability Study that evaluates problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles (2004 models).. As expected, among non-luxury brands Honda and Toyota receive some of the best scores.Another brand that ranks above industry average is Mercury.

At the model level, the 3-year-old Buick Century and Buick Regal midsize cars rank best in the midsize car segment. In the compact car segment, the most reliable models are the Honda Civic, Toyota Prius and Toyota Corolla. In our 2006 study, the same brand models (2003 model year) are most dependable. Results from the 2005 study, which evaluates owner problems with 2002 models find that the Toyota Avalon is one of the 3 most dependable models in the premium midsize car segment, along with the 2002 Buick Century and Regal. In that year's study, the entry midsize category top performers were the 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Alero and Hyundai Sonata.

If you are considering models that are less than $10,000, one of our associates said she purchased an older Honda Accord station wagon for her college-age son. It was about $8,000 and has high mileage but runs perfectly. For more information, photos, articles and quality ratings on new- and used-cars, please visit JDPower.com.

Best Luxury Car Brand?

Air-Jordan

Which is the best in these categories?

1) German Brands - Audi, Mercedes Benz, BMW or Porshe?

2) British Brands - Aston Martin or Jaguar?

3) Ultra-Luxury - Rolls Royce, Bentley or Maybach?

4) Is Lexus any good?
I forgot Cadillac and Infiniti

Answer
Cadillac!
JD Powers rates it in quality just behind Lexus. Business Week rates it #4 behind ALL luxury items ( Cadillac was the only car in top 10!) Based on Customer Service. Cadillac was the first car with electric start, traction control, stability control, anti lock brakes, available air bags (1950s), magnetic ride control (magnetic particle filled shocks), Night vision system, and many, many more firsts (I could go on and on :)).

The SRX Crossover has received SUV of the year award twice from Car & Driver. The Escalade is an American Icon, Cadillac is the US Presidents choice for the presidential limo, Consumer Guide calls the CTS a best buy, The CTS-V whipped everyone's a** on the track (Porsche, Viper, Vettes..) at the SCCA races the first time they ever raced!

All cars in the luxury and ultra luxury class are extremely nice cars. Cadillac is an American Icon, costs less than most of the other cars listed, invented most of the innovative and safety features other manufactures use, less costly to maintain, one of the best warranty's you can get, and are totally in style!

But to answer your other questions;
1. Mercedes Benz
2. Aston Martin
3. Bentley
4. Yes

What are the best sports car do you recommend for cute little women?

What do you think drives women to get fast cars?
how about A BMW Z4?

Answer
What's your budget?

I think the Saturn Sky and the Pontiac Solstice are about equal in that area, and are both pretty sporty. The still-new mustangs are alright, but a bit too...common. If you're gonna spend a LOT of money, nothing is hotter than a girl driving a Corvette Z06! I haven't seen it yet, but a woman driving the new Camaro would be equally incredible!

I come from a place in the US where women get fast cars because they like racing and stuff like that. Women here in the south tend to enjoy the same sort of rush that men do - big engines, loud exhaust, fast and flashy cars... I can't really speak for women everywhere, although I would assume that they get cars like that to be flashy and grab some attention.

BMW Z4 - - -
I'm not sure how it compares to the BMW z3, but would only hope that it's faster and cooler. At 255 Horsepower, you're not going to be winning a lot of those stop-light drag races, and at $45,750 MSRP, you're not getting much "bang for your buck." While I will have to admit, the Z4 coupe (hard top) looks freakin sweet, I'm affraid you'd be buying a $45,000 Miata.

What do Men think about women in Sports Cars?

Beezy

Hi. I'm 26, really nice looking and have always had a car fetish. My first car was a Camero, then I got a Monte Carlo SS and now I have a Dodge Charger. I know these aren't "expensive" cars, but I can't help but notice whenever I'm at lights or cruising through my city. Men and women stare. And I've even had guys make snarky comments like, "You can't handle all that horse-power" Just wondering, what do men or anyone think about women in high-powered vehicles?

Answer
i think they think its hot, iv always had a thing for sport cars too.. guys just "say its too much power" but they're just jealous they dont have that car. if you show them up they'll shut thier mouth. iv done it before lol.. feels good.

2008 honda civc si or 2006 ford mustang v6?

Chris G

Im 17 and im looking for my first car and im looking for a sports car and ive been looking at alot of 2006-2008 honda si's and alot of 2006-2009 ford mustangs and im paying for it and my parents are paying insurance and everything is set were just looking for a car i will be buying within the next month and i want a car i can add mods to and just make it faster and nicer which car would be better to get?

Answer
Honestly for your first car you want something that if you accidentally hit something or someone hits you (especially since you are starting to get the hang of driving on your own) you'll want something that is practical yet still has a sporty-er look to it.

You'll preferably want a car that has a smaller engine (it's better on the gas and when you get your first job (or you have a job I don't know all the details here) it'll be easier to maintain on your own when you take the responsibility off of your parents) so that you get better gas milage (although smaller engine does not always equal better gas, that's usually the case)

Since both cars are presumably used (either that or you are really lucky) you'll want the one that is better taken care of, look at the little details such as how the car handles, how the brakes handle, how the engine sounds, and how the car shifts (clutch!) (if you are buying from a dealer most of this won't be an issue but you'll want to check anyways)

The Mustang is a beautiful car but it's not really practical unless you live in an area where there is almost no bad weather since they are rear wheel drive. While the Si isn't as practical as the regular civic, it's going to be a little bit better in the bad weather since it is a front wheel drive vehicle (front wheel drive is actually very good for your first car in my opinion).

You also wand to look at how many miles are on each vehicle and find out whether they are highway or city miles. When a car has more highway miles than higher city miles, it usually means that their life expectancy will be a little long.

The Si is newer than the Mustang as well, so the newer car might last you a little longer as well (again depending on the miles)

Also, the Si gets 21/29MPG while the Mustang only gets 15/23MPG, so there you go with the whole gas situation.

Again, while the Mustang may look a little better, a car is ultimately what you NEED and what you WANT. You don't have to settle for one or the other unless you are in a bad pinch. So again, the Si will be something you can definitely "add mods" to while still maintaining a reliable aspect.

And as racinngfan3 stated, the insurance rates are going to be hard to cover too. If you happen to take the car out of your parents' names before you are 25 your insurance will likely be extremely expensive. The Civic will definitely be lower than the mustang though. The other thing to is avoid the color red, that will actually make your prices raise as well (since red cars are the most stolen cars). However, if the Civic is red, it shouldn't be nearly as big of a deal or as bad as if the Mustang was.

I'm just saying make sure that when you choose your car you're responsible with it as well as one you can have some fun with. You want your car to be your freedom, not your trap.

Hope you find the perfect car and congrats on getting your first! It's always very exciting to pick it up and drive it off the lot (or out of the driveway if you are buying privately)!

Hope my answer was informative enough. If you want more details on the cars themselves you can check the links below!

P.S. I've seen kids die because they want to speed. They ended up crashing and it didn't end well (the actually went partially through your house). I am a car fan myself (albeit not a very enthused fan since it's a "newer" passion but I do love cars) so I know what it's like to want a nice car. However, as long as you are responsible and just want to take some pride in your car, there is nothing wrong with that. Just don't do anything stupid you know?

sports car under 20k?

Q.

Answer
If you are looking for true sports cars, look at Mustang or Camaro, around the year 1998 should get you in that price area. If you like a little bit of luxury and yet sporty as well, go with a Monte Carlo a 2000-2005 will bring in budget. Going 2006-2007 will be pretty close to being right at or just over budget. If you have something to trade in this will help. If you are still paying on a car this will hurt you. You will then add the price of the new car to what you are still paying.

Best Used Luxury Convertibles Under 20k?

Bradley

What are the best convertibles out there right now that are under 20k? And when I say luxury I'm talking about Mercedes-Benz, BMW, etc. I know someone will say "Ford Mustang" but that isn't what I'm looking for. What I want is something like the Mercedes-Benz SLK 280, something that definitely has a hardtop, isn't all "box shaped" (like a muscle car) and is luxury. I don't care if it goes 200mph or if it even goes 500mph. Primarily I'm concerned with what features the car has (navigation system/cost to add one?), reliability (how many miles can be put onto the car?) and its outside and inside appearance. I don't care totally if it has a backseat or not, but even just a small cramped one would be nice so if you know any convertibles that have one I would appreciate you telling me.

Answer
What about a Chrysler Crossfire? it is actually just a MB, actually based on the SLK that you want, check specs and maybe you like it.

You can use a car performance simulator[1] to virtually compare the car vs other options, even if you dont care performance, you should care how the extra weight of luxuries affect the car.

Are repairs a lot on BMW's?

Kevin M

Im about to get this car for 14000
http://albany.craigslist.org/ctd/1702578637.html

It has 98,000 miles on it. Do you think its going to break down a lot? What kind of common problems are there with this car? How much to to repair it? I know oil changes are a lot but its that pretty much it?

Answer
(Read it, trust me, if not read the END!)

I use to have the same car except it was a 2007 328i sedan, it was brand new so i didnt have a problem with it, I traded it in after 2 1/2 years and I bought a 2009 G37 sedan. Over all the ownership experience of a new BMW was great, the car was vey fun to drive, and best off all i paid $0.00 out of pocket for routine maintenance, anyone who buys a brand new BMW gets free maintenance on their BMW for the first 50K miles/ first 4 years of ownership........ A friend of mine use to have the same car aswell except it was a used 2007 328xi sedan with 45,000 miles on it, after putting 8,000 miles on it the car ended up shutting off on him in the middle of the road, when the car started up again he took it to BMW and they told him it was a vacuum hose in the engine that was broken which connected to a whole other bunch of mechanical pieces in engine, the initial estimate was $2,600 but the guy brought it down to $2,300 for purchasing the car from BMW. Remember his car was out of warranty! So he ended up fixing it and putting the car up for sale and he baught a 2008 Mercedes C300. I think an oil change on a 3 series is about $125.00 at the dealer but im not 100% sure?? There are always Lemons in every car manufacturer regardless if its a Luxury or conventional vehicle. Honda has some cars that deploy airbags when you hit a pothole or slam the doors to hard. Audi has oil leak and electrical problems, but BMW for some reason is always a lemon, it seems that 5 out of every 10 of their cars always have electrical problems, pump problems, major tire ware etc etc. BMWs are still great cars but just be ready to have money in your pocket if the car begins to ask for something. If your going to buy a BMW with High mileage you migth as well get a better deal, these cars are loaded----------->

I found a better deal for you, this one is even in your location. The car is being sold in Astoria, NY, and it has 60K miles and its fully loaded, it even comes with factory xenon headlights, I would even buy it cause it so cheap for the package!

Cars for sale in New York State?

CadiGirl

I Live in Lake Placid New York and im 16.
Im really looking for a newer year car that is in good condition.
Also under 10 thousand or less.

Are there any good used dealerships around hereeee?

Answer
When your in search for a CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) vehicle you can start looking for them at any dealer near you. Your everyday Toyota Dealer down the street can CPO some cars from the same manufacturer or even a car like a Range Rover or Mercedes which was probably traded in and now being sold as a "Used" car on the lot. Since your price range is $10,000 I would highly recommend you search for a car through a Private seller which can be found on some websites such as http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites . Advantages in buying a car from a private seller include buying a car with a cheaper Price tag, you have more room to negotiate opposed to buying a car from a dealer whos goal is to make a greedy profit. Some newer used cars in this price range usually consist of economical sedans or coupes like a Ford mustang, Scion TC, Mazda RX-8, Mazda 3, Toyota Corrolla or a Nissan Altima etc etc. If your in search of a luxury coupe or sedan you will probably be looking at an older model probably an 02-03 BMW 3 series, Infiniti G35 sedan, Audi A4 or Mercedes C-class, the cons in purchasing an older luxury car is the possibility for extensive maintenance repairs in the future and older cars tend to have alot more miles packed into them opposed to the newer more economical 05-07 models of a Nissan, Toyota, Kia at the same price point. Since you have not narrowed down what you are looking for exactly such as a Coupe? SUV? Sedan? Hybrid? Luxury? I have taken the liberty to list some cars that are up for sale in your area (NY). But my god you live far, your actually in UP STATE NY!! You might aswell move to Vermont your no where near "Newyork" hahaha. These cars are being sold across Buffalo NY, NY city, Albany and other citys. Hope this helps.

(Economical Sedans, coupes and SUV's under or a little above $10,000)

Not sure what kind of car I should get?!?

Renato

I'm looking to get another car , but not really sure on what to get?? I'm open to any suggestive and my budget is around 20k . Thanks :)

Answer
You could get a good deal on a new (2013) Accord LX for around $21k. If you're looking for something sportier, you could get a used Subaru WRX STI. If you'd like a youthful luxury car, a used Lexus IS is nice. If you are looking for reliability, make it a Honda, Toyota, or Lexus. If the car is new though and you don't plan to keep it more than a few years, any car will be under warranty. Make sure before you buy anything you look up the going rate on www.kbb.com, and don't pay more than the "very good" rating on a car with an average of 12k miles a year private party value. You could tweek the price a little up or down depending on the mileage, but use that as a guide. Also, don't buy it if the mileage is over 12k a year... lower resale, higher maintenance costs.

What's an amazing Lexus sport car?

Your Mom

Alright. So im 13 going on 14 in July...
And my Mom is letting me pick my car and I just want a Lexus car because my name is Lexus :p haha but she just wants a couple of years to help me save up for a car that I want because it'll probably be cheaper in a year or so. Hopefully :p but I probably wont change my mind so don't give me shit about that please. Because I am into cars from the past also, so it would kinda be good for me in a couple years to get a 2011, 2012, 2013, in 2015 or whatever :p not much of a difference anyways...
So I'm into fast, nice looking cars c; omg...!<3
I've been looking into some but I know Lexus probably has more, but the ones I've seen are alright but kinda shitty. My #1 choice right now is the GS F. But I'm not like.. "omg I love this car!"
So can you help me haha?
What's a nice, Lexus sports car?!(:
Or even.. maybe just a nice Lexus car!?(:
I sound dumb.. but yeah Cx
Shaannkkss ;D

Answer
An amazing Lexus sports car is the LFA - but that costs $375K, so unless your mom is Oprah Winfrey, you can pretty much forget about that one.

Beyond that, anything with an "F" in it. The IS-F if you can afford it (runs about $60K), or if that's too much, the F sport accessory package on the IS250, IS350 or GS. None of those are cheap either ($40K+). It's nothing you're going to save up for with babysitting or lawn mowing money.

An older SC 430 convertible is pretty cool, but a 7 or 8 year old one will still run you over $20K.

Good luck!

Things to know about living in Canada?

Darrel

I have gotten a job in Canada as a Electrical Maintenance Tech at a Factory in Brampton. I am going next week to star the immigration process (they told me it would take two months).

I dont know anything about living in Canada. They are putting me up in company housing for a few months while I find living arrangements. I work 3 days of 12 hour shifts and three off at 27.50/hr (Canadian). What are somethings I should be aware of when moving? Crime? Areas to live in? Things to do? The housing building (Really just a longhouse style building with 8 rooms for the folks they bring in from the states) is in Mississauga.

thank you!

Answer
Well I'll start by suggesting I live in Canada and I was floored when I read a box of chocolates costs $75. The box must have been made of gold or platinum.
Rest assured you can buy chocolates packaged in boxes made of cardboard that cost about $3 also.
Granted tournaments may not always 'pay out' but that's what casinos and lotteries and office pools are for; quite often Canadians play games and sports not for monitary reward but for the mere fun or challenge and sportsmanship of it.

"Things to know about living in Canada?"

Generally speaking things are slightly costlier than they are in the USA; the Canadian climate for example doesn't lend itself to year-round agriculture so we import fruits and vegetables, imports are always pricier than domestic.
Conversely Canadians tend to earn a higher wages than their US counterparts so often things balance... a US dollar internationally [todays quotes] is worth .99c compared to a Canadian dollar - that makes a difference also even if just cents.

"Canada at top five in world economic freedom ranking, US sinks to 18th"
http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/09/18/canada-rises-to-top-five-in-world-economic-freedom-ranking-as-u-s-plummets-to-18th/

Culturally... Canada is big on multiculturalism and always has been. It's where black slaves came to escape the US, it's where Native Americans came to escape Manifest Destiny, it's where the Brit United Empire Loyalists fled to, it's where US civilians trying to escape the US Vietnam War draft came to seeking sanctuary.
It is socially unacceptable to disparage anyone based on skin tone, country of origin, what God or Prophet they worship, what gender they are, what their sexual orientation is [unless it involves children]. People ideally aren't judged, period - but if so it's personal merit that we measure - only.

Much is made of Canada having gun control. Fact is the same weapon used in the Colorado theatre shootings is available for sale in Canada. We don't hate guns, we hate violence against our fellow human beings. If you're into weapons keep this in mind, and if you wish to bring any weapons across the border ensure you know what is allowed lest the weapons be seized at the border.
Don't try to sneak any in, that's attempted often and the Border Guards are wise to it.

Canada is a Parliamentary Democracy with Queen Elizabeth II as our Head of State.
She is the Queen of Canada, a Canadian citizen - a right granted to her by Canadians... there is zero British connection in any way shape or form.
In her role as Head of State our Queen follows Canadian law passed down by the Canadian Parliament, the country ruled by the Prime-Minister - put there, or in lieu of voted out of office by Canadians.
If you are one of those US people who think Canada is somehow subservient to Britain, rest easy lol.

Crime...
Los Angeles advertises itself as one of the USAs safest big cities; only 300 murders last year.
Vancouver, where I live - a city of millions had 14 murders last year; 9 the year prior. All Canadians cities have stats like that... random street violence definitely more the exception than the rule.
If you experience crime it'll be property crime, some lowlife smashing into your car and stealing your stereo or valuables type thing.
We save our violence for hockey and lacrosse games.

"Canada's overall police-reported crime rate dropped six per cent in 2011 from the previous year, reflecting the lowest crime figures recorded since 1972. Statistics compiled by the Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics (CCJS) and released Tuesday by Statistics Canada showed that the crime rate in 2011 was at its lowest level in 39 years. The decline continues a downward trend that began in the 1990s"
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/07/24/crime-stats-canada.html

The beer is excellent.
The people are fun and social.
That said every village has an idiot regardless of what country you live it, we're not perfect.
Climate is extreme - summer is very very hot and winters literally deadly cold (but we're masochists, we still go outside)

You'll see lots of spelling mistakes up here. That's because we use a different form of the English language than the US does:
color = colour
favor = favour
center = centre
theater = theatre
Ticks me off when spell-check tells me I'm messing up words I'm actually spelling correctly.

You'll have a blast I figure, your wage a half decent one, and everywhere is a good place to live be it in the heart of a city to totally rural - good, just for different reasons.
Best of luck to you while here.

My pleasure!

Is this a good prologue for a thriller novel?

This is the prologue of my new thriller project - 'ZERO HOUR'

July 20, 1996
Ain Sokhna Hilton Resort, Suez, Egypt

He decided to come in the evening.
Hassan Abbas pulled his Mercedes SL-600 into a tight turn, before accelerating into the courtyard of the resort, the suspension expertly absorbing the cobblestones. He glided to a halt just beside the reception block, where he switched off the ignition, snatched up his jacket, and climbed out of the low convertible sports-car.
Walking round to the back, he used the remote locking system to electronically open the boot. The hydraulic arms lifted the carbon-fibre shell, allowing Abbas to pull out his leather attaché briefcase.
The resort just happened to be one of his favourites in Egypt, and the location â just off the Suez canal â could be stunning. He wondered who had recommended the hotel to the man he was here to visit â a man who Abbas knew was a complete sand Arab.
Walking briskly, he made his way across the courtyard, heading for the area where the swimming pool and bar were situated. The heels of his shoes snapped gently on the cobble-stones, giving a steady beat for Abbas to walk against. Walking around the entrance gate, he walked down the brightly illuminated path that led around the swimming and onto the bar that was atop and island in the middle of the water.
He wiped his forehead from the heat â twenty-five degrees Celsius. Even for an Egyptian night, that was very warm. Even he â a man who had lived in Egypt nearly all his life, didnât like this type of heat. Surprisingly, he preferred the British climate.
He walked along the bridge over the pool, and glanced around as he did so, looking for the person he had arranged to meet tonight. Sitting at one of the straw tables, was him.
The man definitely look like an Arab. More of a tradi-tional Englishman than a traditional Saudi. The immaculate grey suit was a direct contrast to Abbasâs relaxed polo-shirt and cream trousers. The shoes the Arab was wearing too, where obviously English leather.
Abbas stopped for a moment and looked around at the location where he was sitting, checking whether there were any other people in the proximity. After assuring himself that no-one would be listening on their conversation, he walked towards the man sitting at the table.
âAh, Hassan.â The man said warmly, standing up from his comfortable seat. He outstretched his hand, and Abbas shook it gratefully.
âSadoun Khamil, old friend, itâs good to see you.â Abbas replied in greeting, as both of them sat down at the small table.
Abbas placed his briefcase onto the ground, leaning it against one of the table legs. He glanced at the table itself. There was all the usual things that one would expect to find on a bar table, joined by an exotic looking cocktail.
âHassan, may I offer you a drink?â Khamil asked, his tanned face stretching into a grin.
âGratefully.â Abbas replied, wiping his forehead again. âPreferably something ice cold.â
Khamil clicked his fingers, and instantly a waiter strolled over to them.
âMojito?â Khamil cocked his head towards Abbas. âWhite rum, sugar, sparkling water, and spearmint. Original Cuban, and all ice cold.â Khamil gestured towards his own cocktail.
âYeah, that will be good.â
The waiter nodded, bowed, and walked away towards the bar, where three other men were sitting.
âAnyway, Hassan, we need to talk.â
âIndeed.â Abbas agreed, leaning down to reach for his briefcase. He picked it up, pushed himself away from the table, and clicked it open. Inside was a Apple laptop computer, a set of pens, and two identical files, each one marked with a simple phrase in Arabic.
Abbas took them both out, placing one on his side, and handing the other to Khamil, before snapping the briefcase shut, and placing it back on the ground.
Khamil had opened the file, and was flicking through the pages. âIâm guessing this is the research you told me about two nights ago?â
âYes.â Abbas nodded, opening his own file.
Khamil nodded too. âIâll tell you now, Iâm not happy about it. Even now, before we have made any contact with them, Iâm not comfortable about it.â He paused for a moment. âIt just seems so, unusual.â
Abbas sat back, taking in what he had just heard. âI too, am unhappy at the implications of working so closely with them, Sadoun, but we must face the facts. We cannot develop this technology for ourselves, at least not within the foreseeable future, and if even if we buy what we need we are still faced with the very difficult and important problem of delivery. My analysis in this report suggests that co-operation is the only option which offers us even a slight chance of success.â
Abbas stopped and waited. The two men were best friends, but Abbas worked for Khamil, and just there he had staked not only his career, but also his life on that single mo-ment. Despite his western appearance, Khamil was a ruthless, barbarian person, and he had extreme powe

Answer
As one thriller writer to another. It's my opinion but I think you overdo the product placement, the adjectives and the adverbs. This is basically good stuff but over-embellished. Setting a scene is necessary but should be done with an economy of words. A good edit's in order.
Talking of words heels usually clip or tap but not snap.
I guess this is a first draft so you won't have picked up the obvious mistake in the passage about the arab who looked like an arab but was dressed like an Englishman.
I find it hard to believe that two Muslims would drink alcohol together. I know they serve it in hotels in Egypt but mainly for the tourists.
I'm not worried about it being a prologue if, as you hint, it takes place some years before the actual happenings in the novel.
I can see where this is going. I can't see them doing a deal on WMDs with the Israelis so it will have to be either the Russian Mafia, the North Koreans or the Iranians. It would be interesting to find out.

My budget is 9000 and im getting my first car. I want something reliable that looks beautiful and classical. Name me some cars that look nice, and are from the late 90s I could get as my first car. Something thats different! Nothing too sporty, not like a corvette, because I need some space to fit people. SUV, car, crossover. Just name something you like and ill take a look at it! Thanks a bunch

Answer
Have you considered a Lexus LS400? It is the ultimate 90's luxury barge. Quiet, smooth, refined with minimal issues. It can sprint up to 60 faster than the 740iL and will hand most sporty cars their own head on a plate. Look up the old Top Gear video with Quentin Wilson test driving one. They last forever and repairs are few and far between. The shape is timeless - classic with straight lines and pleasing curves, the leather is superb and the wood make a even a brand new Cadillac look like a civic. I have one as my weekend toy and don't see myself ever selling it

Old Luxury Car Question?

Luke

I want to buy a old 1980's - early 1990's BMW or Mercedes, because I really like the way those cars look. I wanted to know if I got one in good condition how much it would cost to upkeep such a car?

My parents had a 2002 BMW 545 and it had lots of problems and I want to know if I should expect the same? I don't have a lot of money to keep sinking into a car.
I like 80's Mercedes better like the D series and then second I like the early 90's BMWs.

Answer
Well taking care and keeping a car that model is always a challenge. Money and ideas are always present. But the fulfillment of restoring it and keeping it running is unexplainable. I have both Mercedes Benz and BMW between 80's and 90's model and its in good running condition. I will give you some pictures of it and i hope you will like it.

chris

Okay so I wanna buy my first car I've been looking for a while and would love to get a 2 door
im kinda stuck on 4 cars just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience with them
1. 2002/3 Toyota celica
2. 2006 hyundai tiburon
3. 2006 accurate rsx
4. 2008 scion tc
ultimately I want to pay under 10k, but find a car with around 70k miles max or less
also I am open to learning to drive manual (both my parents know how) , and I am about 6 feet tall so the scion was a bit short w/ the headroom

Answer
As a massive car enthusiast who also has looked around, I can tell you that many better choices are availible for under 10k
heres a few things you may like
if you are into luxury cars, you can easily find a nice 03-04 lincoln or possibly 01-03 Cadillac
on a side note, I'm in the market now and i've found a very nice Cadillac STS for a small amount of money
If you are into performance, you are well catered for in American sports cars, imports are more expensive and harder to find under 10k but they exist
For if you want an economical car for under 10k, you can buy a chevy cavalier with low miles for less than 2k
Hope this helps
P.S.
i would recommend looking at craigslist ads but just to look for something, if you do decide to buy make sure the ad is not a scam.

Can anyone help me find the best things to do in Honolulu. I am looking for stuff to do w/out guides.?

adalberto

I'm going to Honolulu in July. I was wondering if anyone can help me find stuff to do without guides or without tours. I am looking for cultural stuff and things that the local would do /places they would visit rather than tourist places. I was thinking maybe some places to swim some sightseeing. I don't really care for luxury and want to experience the true local culture, none of the turist stuff. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

Answer
Here are some good hikes that are easily accessible w/ a rental car & some also by bus. You can google the hikes for specific info.
1) Diamond Head - small fee for parking, access from Kaimuki side of DH. Some climbing, but still fairly easy hike. Hot - Bring water. Great views of Waikiki & east Oahu.
2) Makapuu - past Hawaii Kai, east Oahu. Some climbing, but still fairly easy hike. Hot - Bring water. Great views of Windward side & east Oahu.
3) Judd/Jackass Ginger - off Old Pali Road in Nuuanu. Easy hike, cross small stream on stones. Ends at small watering hole w/ small waterfall. Bring bug repellant. May be muddy.
4) Manoa Falls - back of Manoa valley. A little climbing, ends at waterfall with small pool. May be muddy. Bring bug repellant.

Art on the fence - on the weekends, local artists display their work for sale on the fence outside the zoo at Kapiolani Park.

Iolani Palace - built by the Kalakauas, home of the last reigning monarchs. Small entry fee. Stunningly beautiful. Knowledgeable docents. Great history. Tip: check out the gift store in the armory building for incredible Christmas ornaments.

Not so touristy beaches - try Kailua Beach or Lanikai. Very beautiful, medium waves, mountain backdrops. Google images of these beaches to check out pictures.

Lunch at the culinary institute at Kapiolani Community College. Good food, great prices. (link below)

Check out the Farmer's Market at the same college on Sat ams. (link below)

Enjoy your visit & don't be afraid to try some of the "touristy stuff", like Hanauma Bay, for instance, there is great snorkeling there. Small entrance & entry fees. Rent snaorkle equipment.

Is she trying to sell me a leased vehicle?

El Gringo

It says the first and second owner registered it as a leased vehicle (I'm just listing the second owners details due to space). Is she trying to scam me or is there a way she legally owns the vehicle and is trying to sell it? I've already physically seen the vehicle and it looks nice but CARFAX has made me a little cautious about this sale as well as she has a lien on it currently.

Avoid financial headaches. Make sure the loan has been paid off if you're buying from a private seller.

Answer
people who lease new vehicles from a dealership are allowed to try and sell the vehicle before they have to turn it back in.

Usually the ones who try to sell are the ones who drove over their allotted miles or who didn't put down any deposit down on the car or who didn't take good care of the car & have to pay to have it detailed or minor cosmetic repairs made for it or for whatever reason will owe the dealership additional money when they turn the vehicle back in. If they can sell the vehicle for more money than they owe the dealership then the sale is allowed.

Most leases are for 2 or 3 years max. Based on the info you have provided: it looks like Owner 1 leased a new car in 2002 and released their lease in 2005. (only new cars are allowed to be leased). It looks like it was at the dealership for about 2 weeks before it was purchased as a used car by Owner 2. Owner 2 still has an outstanding loan on the car.

take the advice of your carfax and make sure that the bank is OK w/ them selling the car to you if they are a private seller because according to the carfax as of August 7, they still owe the bank and whomever they owe is who has the title.

in cases where they need to sell the car to pay off the car, you should be working w/ their bank as well as them. Ask questions about who has possession of the title and how the title will be transfered to you and your lender (if you're using one).

edit: I did want to point out that the seller may have paid off the car because they purchased in August of 2005 and it's now September 2010 and most people who buy used luxury cars won't finance them longer than 5 years. (I'm not even sure the bank will finance a used car longer than 5 years--it really depends on the age of the car when the loan is made)

Good sports car?

Scott

Im looking for a car that has real good racing performance and i was thinking about buying a 2003 nissan 35 oz. So far someone said that it is too heavy and im afraid that that will affect its speed. But im looking for something with style and speed and something that would be good on a straight away track. If anyone has any advice please let me know.

Answer
It's really going to depend on what your budget is at the moment. That's going to be your biggest concearn.

As for cars to choose from, there could be lots out there for you.

Nissan has the 350Z as you already know, and also, don't forget about the Infiniti G35/G37 coupes. Yes, they may be more expensive than the Z, but are pretty comparable to the Z as they run the same engine and drive train.

Both cars are proven to be good on a track, and the engines respond extremely well to simple bolt on upgrades.

Also mentioned was the S2000. Also a very good car and lot's of fun to drive. Unlike the 350Z, this car looks hot with the convertible (sorry, the Z roadster just looks funky to m) and the engine just seems to pull forever, clear into it's 9K redline, then begs for more.

Also, don't count out the EVO or the WRX. These cars, although designed for different types of racing, are very capable due to their AWD systems. (Subaru has a FR mounted set up as opposed to Mitsu's FF layout)

Any of the above listed cars would be good, as well as many others.

I don't know, but do the new Mustangs have a better suspension setup for track racing and corner carving?

i'm looking to buy a nice sports car. my budget is around $28,000 max?

me baby me

i'm looking for something with good acceleration and handeling. its gotta be fast too.
a friend of mine has a 06 mustang v6 and i wanna be able to blow him off the road if at all possible
right now i'm looking at the 06/07 eclipse gt coupe with the 263 hp manual tran.
i'm also looking at an older (02-04) nissan 350z there is a 02 around here for 22,000
umm also i've looked into a miata mx-5, a rx-8 (both mazdas); a chrysler crossfire; i've seen some 04 GTOs that i liked and some dodge chargers i liked in my range too; and i guess the mustangs too v6 and i saw a v8 in my price range but the only thing with the 'stang is i don't wanna be rippin of my buddy but if its the best deal then i have no problem with it
so any suggestions you all have on what to get off of what i listed or any others you know would be extremely helpful. o and ple

Answer
I used to be a Lot Manager for a Ford dealership. Is his car a gt or a regular mustang. Ford now offers a new car called the Fusion it is really nice. The V6 model offers a lot of great stuff. for example it has a 3.0L, 221 horsepower, 6 speed attomatic transmittion. when i test drove that car when it hit the market i could still feel it jump gears after i hit 110 miles per hour. if you were to add some goodies to this car it would look amazing along with the speed it would have the new 07 model now offers all-wheel drive. which will help out when taking corners. The SEL model is priced at 20,000-24,000. which can leave with some money to play with.
