i was just watching some police videos with good old Sheriff john bunnell, and the people running usually have crappy cars, but what would the police do if they have no air support, and they were chasing a lambo or ferrari or some exotic sports car?

Answer
Spike strips.

Most of those high end sports cars also have automatic shutoffs via phone. Assuming they know the owner, they can call a code and the engine will shut off.

When learning how to drive should I learn manual or automatic?

Tyler

I am 15 and about to start studying for my drivers permit. I have always dreamt about owning a sports car and would my consider myself a car enthusiast. I have spent countless hours watching youtube videos of cars, obsessing over car pictures and dealer websites, reading and watching tv shows like topgear bbc. I want to learn how to drive stick because it looks like fun, a great experience and because I would have to generalize that most sports cars are manual or it would just be a shame to buy them in automatic and not get as pleasurable as an experience. I have seen videos showing how to drive stick but I have never actually had an opportunity to do so.
A couple problems I have are:
1) nobody in my immediate family drives stick shift.
2) my folks think that buying a manual transmission car decreases the value
3) I have to admit that as much as I would love to drive stick, I am somewhat intimidated by how it looks driving with the clutch and the gear changes and just the overwhelming complications to get started.

So would it benefit for me to take my license test and learn with an automatic car, and then learn stick on the side or what?

Answer
I learned to drive on a manual back in the 1960s. Partly because they were cheaper in those days, they got better gas mileage, required less maintenance, and because my dad wanted my sister and me to learn to handle any kind of car. (Some cars in those days came only with manual transmissions!) I have always had manuals, except these days I do a lot of rush-hour stop-and-go driving and an automatic is better for that so my current car is an automatic.

These days, though, it's not even easy to find a car with a manual transmission unless it's one of those super-expensive toys they play around with on Top Gear (and even those often have automatic clutches, so you just pick a gear). These days I'm not sure you could even find a driving instructor who uses a manual! Automatics get the same fuel efficiency, they don't cost more, they have probably LESS maintenance because there's no clutch to wear out.

Back in the 90s I got into an argument with my GF. We were looking for a new car for her and she wanted a 4 on the floor (actually they're 5 on the floor now but nobody says that 'cos it doesn't rhyme!) We were going to a Chevy dealership to look at cars, and I bet her that most Corvettes were sold with automatic transmissions. They're more about status and image than sportiness, I thought. She thought most would have manuals because they're 'sports cars'. So we made a bet. I asked the salesman and he said maybe 90% were automatics, in fact if you wanted a manual you had to order it special. I would bet on today's Corvette you can't even get a manual!

And the funny thing is, EVERY motorcycle is manual! There are never more than one or two models of automatic motorcycles, and they don't sell well. Go figure! Yet motorscooters are all automatic!

You're not going to be getting that Porsche or Maserati or Aston Martin for your first car. 8^) If you learn to drive automatic, you get all that stuff out of the way, and if you got a manual later, you'd only need to learn how to work the shift and clutch. It looks complicated but it's really not that hard once you get a feel for the clutch.

is it possible to have PAKlSTANI passport and be rich in UAE?

Hello,
I really do feel sad when I see those South Asian construction workers working out in firey heat. Are they all poor? Is it possible to have an Pakistani passport and live in luxury in Dubai with nice cars and a large house?

Answer
If a Pakistani is well educated and working in a higher position or own a well running business, of course it's possible to become wealthy in the UAE even as a Pakistani.
I don't know what you consider being rich but be assured that managers of e.g. Union Bank don't live in misery even when holding a Pakistani passport.

Why do you feel sorry for South Asians working out in the heat? Isn't it hot in their home country? Do they get a mid day brak there to avoid working during the hottest time of the day? Do they have provided health care? If yes, then why coming to the UAE? These blue collar workers come to the UAE to make a living which their own country can't provide. These workers are poor going by western standard but on the other hand they are able to support their families back home where living cost are one of the cheapest worldwide.

Everybody can become rich regardless of passport. But you need to have some knowledge/being sucsessful jobwise, have a great idea business wise of hit the lottery to become "rich".

People who never had the chance to receive proper education can be happy to end up as an unskilled worker in a foreign country to support his family.

Btw: there are rich Pakistanis in Pakistan itself who didn't need to leave Pakistan to get wealthy. http://www.theworldtoptens.com/top-10-richest-people-of-pakistan-2013/

If you have a supercharger but dont want to use the pricey gas could you take the belt off and drive without?

luxury cars that use 87 octane on LUXURY FAST CARS WALLPAPERS: March 2010
luxury cars that use 87 octane image

Zackary

I was contemplating on putting a supercharger into my V6 Mustang 3.8L and I read that they require at least 91 octane gas but I was wondering if maybe you could disconnect the belt to the supercharger and run regular 87 octane gas until you wanted to actually use the supercharger?

Answer
I'm not real familiar with how a supercharger works, but from what I know, it's not possible. Once you add a supercharger you add on alot more potential with the engine. It forces more air into the cylinders for a bigger explosion, meaning more HP.

Running 91 octane isn't bad. Idk where u are, but diesel cost more where I am. All sports cars, especially high-end ones, run on 91 aka premium. Luxury SUVs also run on premium.

If you stay out of the supercharge range(on turbo cars the turbos turn on at about 3000rpm, once they are on more gas is used). I know a guy who can get a good 25mpg out of his supercharged mustang GT. running 87 really only means less power to the engine.

Does the SC say requires premium? Or does it say recommend premium? If it says recommend, you can run 87 with the supercharger on.

What type of gasoline to put in an Audi A6?

I'm looking at cars and I'm really looking at this nice 1999 Audi A6.The only thing is that I know with some of the Audi's you have to put 93 octane in it and I'm a college student. I could justify putting in mid-grade fuel if it really makes a difference, but I don't want to have to spend a ton of money on gas for a car. Granted it does get pretty good mpg, but still. I would rather pay for gas that's 10 cents cheaper or more a gallon if I could get away with it.

Answer
You put whatever gas into the manufacturer recommends, which really changes depending on the engine. No, German cars do not require "premium gas", high compression motors - including ones made by Honda - require premium gas because of how the octane rating measures how much compression the fuel can take before it self ignites. And if a car was not starting it was not JUST because it had cheap gas in it...

That said, let's look at the math a quick second: So you save 10 cents a gallon? If a fuel tank is 15 gallons that's... a $1.50 per fillup. You're saving $1.50. You honestly can't spend an extra $1.50 to fill up the tank with the proper gas that won't eventually destroy the motor? Even if you fill up once a week that's still (roughly) only $75.00 a year. Yeah, it's not a tiny amount of money, but is it really THAT much? If it's really that big a deal to you, WHY IN THE WORLD are you considering buying a German luxury car?

"Running it on 87 octane isn't necessarily bad for the car,"

Yes, it is, actually. I know, I know "But there's knock sensors in the motor to retard the timing in case of pinging!", and that's true, but they are there to prevent a catastrophic failure. Their intended purpose is NOT to permanently adjust the timing to use a different type of gas, because here's the thing, even WITH the timing retarded you STILL have slight detonation and pinging happening, it's just not as bad. So now not only are you destroying your pistons and heads over time, you've also lost performance because of it!

Are 2 door cars higher insurance? even if it is a hatchback?

imhannah

the car im planning to get is two door, a hatchback and is a 5-seater. how much higher is insurance?

Answer
From experience, yes. Most 2 door cars are of a higher price in insurance. Reason being, some 2 door cars are considered "sports" cars. Higher performance capabilities and a younger person's car always rack up the price. It also depends on what type of car it is. A Mustang/Firebird/Camaro are high symbol cars which will always cost more in insurance than a Honda or Toyota...something along the lower levels. Hope this helps!!!

What does the symbol on Queens of the Stone Age's album "Songs for the Deaf" mean?

Ben

The album that is red and black there is a symbol and I can't find what it means. Is it a tuning fork mixed with a pitchfork? They have it on another B-side compilation. If anyone knows I would really appreciate it.

Answer
i couldnt find much except this off wiki, and it has connection to the lp cover and interior art, but not any info on the main cover.

Artwork

The cover art for the U.S. double LP version of the album is quite different, featuring a red Q (with a sperm cell as the line in the Q and an egg cell as the circle) on a black background with no other text. It was released on red vinyl. The UK vinyl version cover is the same as the CD cover. The dashboard/interior with superimposed logos is that of a Fiat 124 Sport Spider, a 1960sâ1980s mass market Italian sports car. The person on the album disc is musician Dave Catching, who performs on the album.

There were also three different album covers that were made for the compact disc version of Songs for the Deaf. All of the interior artwork for each of the three versions is the same, but there were covers printed in red, magenta, and orange. The most common copy of the album sleeve is the red cover.

Pumas Fan

A 2005-2010 Mustang. I'm and eighteen year old, first time driver. I know insurance is going to be expensive but I heard somewhere that a mustang wasn't qualified as a sports car because of the two seats in the back, and that Ford made the Mustang a four seater for this reason. Also how expensive would it be? I live in Colorado.

Answer
My boyfriend has a 2004 Ford mustang and I believe his car is a coupe (not positive though). It was also his first car and he got it when he was 19. His insurance was almost $200 monthly, but he wasn't under his parent's insurance. We live in California.

What sports car can i get for under 13k?

What kind of vehicle should I buy for living in the snowbelt?

sports cars ratings image

SweetPea

I live in the snowbelt of Central New York and drive 25 miles to work one way every day. I know I want a 4 door and it MUST be 4WD or AWD. We will be starting a family soon so it needs to be "car seat/kid friendly." I'm looking for the vehicle that will give me the most bang for my buck. I have a car to use as a trade in but no additional cash to put down. I don't need a lot of bells and whistles but I currently drive a sports car so looks DO matter a little bit. But most important is its ability to go in the snow, reliability, gas mileage and crash ratings. Any recommendations?

Answer
How about a Subaru Impreza. They are like a four door sports car and are very sporty looking, get great fuel economy, and aren't extremely expensive. Also, what about a jeep? It isn't a sports car, but they do get around awesome in the snow.

What car offers the most "bang for the buck?"?

Meredith

I've been toying with getting a new car. My criteria:
-- antilock brakes
-- excellent safety ratings
-- reliable
-- good mileage
-- automatic transmission
-- four door
-- as inexpensive as possible!

My husband has a sports car, so I'd like something that offers more versatility. I always drive Corollas, but I'd like to branch out! I welcome your suggestions.

Answer
I would probably go with other compact or mid-size Japanese offerings. Nissan Altima, Maxima, Honda Accord, etc.

Volvos aren't always cheap to fix. I wouldn't consider them or most other European vehicles unless your husband does all the maintenance work on your cars.

you have a choice of buying a luxury car or a standard model for the same price. how will...

Answer
All depends on demand, you could buy a $1 million car but if nobody else want it, it is worth $0 instantly, you would need to do a demand research.

If you had a choice, would you buy a luxury car or a standard car for the same price?

s

How do you think depreciation effects the type of car purchased? Give a specific example.

Answer
the main reason ppl buy luxury cars, is to look classy and rich.
b/c when you think of BMW, you automatically think $$$.
so when you see someone driving a BMW, first thought that comes to mind is that, "man he/she must be rich!".
but if a luxury car, were the same price as a normal standard... there really wouldn't be a class system.
if you saw someone with a BMW, and the guy next to him had a Ford Focus, you wouldn't automatically think better of the BMW driver. cause essentially their both the same price.
and in the end, trying to buy that "fancy car", really means nothing, cause it's not more valueable than the avg. car.

Can my family move to Singapore, and live there?

luxury cars young professionals on Actual Transcript

Rhiannon

My mom is a high school drop out, but she is very good at waitressing and what not. I am 15 and have to younger brothers the age of 6 and 8.My mom makes less than $1100 per month. What, if possible, would my family have to do in order to move and live in Singapore?

Answer
Based on your description, your mom might be eligible to work in S'pore as a waitress (or similar job), but she is not eligible to bring you & your brothers along. Even if all of you can go, your lives would be barely on (or likely below) subsistence level in S'pore. The below explains why.

If your mom were to work in S'pore as a full-time waitress (or as some other unskilled/ semi-skilled labour), she has to get her prospective employer to apply a Work Permit for her, before she can go & work in S'pore. (Foreign nationals on social, long term visit or student visas are not allowed to work legally in S'pore.)

Work Permits are issued to non-degree graduate workers from "approved" countries (Malaysia, SE Asia, Indochina, NE Asia, China, Indian subcontinent), & who would be earning < S$2,000/mth during their period of employment in S'pore.

* Work Permit - Before you apply (S'pore Ministry of Manpower): http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/passes-visas/work-permit-fw/before-you-apply/Pages/overview.aspx

For you & your brothers to go live in S'pore, your mom would have to sponsor you guys for Dependent's Passes. However, only the "higher-class" P1/ P2/ Q1 Employment Pass holders & S Pass holders with minimum $2,800 monthly salary are allowed to apply for Dependant's Passes for their family members (ie. spouse, unmarried/ adopted children below 21 years old). As such, you & your siblings would not be able to accompany your mom.

* Dependant's Pass - Before you apply (S'pore Ministry of Manpower): http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/passes-visas/dependant-pass/before-you-apply/Pages/default.aspx

In addition, waitressing jobs pay only S$5-6/hr (inexperienced) to S$8-9/hr (experienced), & there is also no tipping culture in S'pore. So your mom's monthly salary would likely to be relatively low. Even if your whole family are allowed to stay in S'pore, a monthly income of just S$1,100/ mth (ie. before mandatory CPF deduction by the government, ie. S$300+ based on above salary) is going to make your lives VERY abject & miserable, considering the high costs of living in S'pore. In fact, there might not be enough money to send your brothers & you to school. Also, all of you would have to settle for at most 1 basic meal per day.

Do note that S'pore is amongst the 10 ten most expensive places in the world to live in. Even professionals from USA & Australia have commented that most daily necessities are much cheaper back home than in S'pore. (Housing & cars are even more exorbitantly expensive.)

A foreign single-income earner with 3 school-going kids would need at least S$2,500/ mth to live in S'pore -- assuming they choose to squeeze into a "big" rental room (S$600-800/mth, may not include utility bills for 4 people) in a public HDB flat, as well as forgo most entertainment/ luxury expenses.

Could a young professional earning US$80,000 a year and driving a full-size luxury car be a sugardaddy?

PER92

Answer
yes but no because if you earning 80,000 a yr why do you want to drive a full-size luxury car -and be a sugar daddy who to a example only 5 yr old .a sugar daddy pays for everything silly so grow up .etc, which i will leave out until your old enough.

Why do people say that European sport cars have better fuel economy?

sports cars with good mpg on fuel consumption city 15 mpg fuel consumption highway 21 mpg remote ...
sports cars with good mpg image

Steven

The general consensus is that European cars, including their sport cars, have better fuel economy than their competitors (this especially the case when compared to American automobiles). Almost every "Car with the Worst MPG" list (or one with a similar title) almost every sport car on those list are either models of wither Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, and other European models. If these different lists all have these same models in their count then there must be something to these similarities (in this case that these European sports cars have worse fuel economy than those from non-European manufacturers).

So why do people keep stating the opposite of what appears to be the truth in this case? Can someone explain this clearly to mean?

Btw this question is only about sport cars.

Answer
I never heard of people saying that Euro cars are more efficient.

But anyways, look at Porsche. They have some of the cleanest running engines. In big cities, the city air going into the intake is dirtier than the air coming out of the exhaust. So it is like a vacuum cleaner.

And the 480HP+ Porsche 911 Turbo that reaches 193mph and goes from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds gets 25mpg highway and 18mpg city. There is no competing supercar that comes close to those figures.

What is a good sports car that have good fuel economy?

Imran

I wanna buy a nice sports car that looks cool and also have a good fuel economy. Like 25 MPG.

Answer
Depending on how much you want to spend, I'd say that you should look at www.porsche.com and look at whatever suits your taste. Most of the models get between 24 and 27 MPG. But they are quite expensive, so like I said before, it all depends on how much you are willing you spend.

Here are some specs for the basic model of the Porsche Boxter: 255 hp @ 6,400 rpm; 0-60 mph: 5.6 seconds; Top Speed: 163 mph; Fuel Consumption (Highway): 27 mpg (Manual Transmission).

MSRP $ 48,100.00

Porsche also makes a kind of Automatic Transmission that they call "Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK)", which can be purchased for $ 51,520.00

I just got the Droid X and my battery dies out really fast? What can i do to make it last longer thru the day?

Answer
Use the Power Control widget to keep GPS, WiFi, and Bluetooth off when you're not using them, as well as to keep the screen dimmed.. Charge your phone up completely without stopping when it needs to be charged, and avoid charging it until its as low as possible. Dont charge it with a car charger.. Set email, FB, etc. to sync as little as possible. Dont use a live wallpaper. Use Advanced Task Killer to end apps that you are no longer using, but dont kill any widgets or apps that constantly run and update themselves in the background, like email, FB, weather, sports, etc..

Any ideas on nursery themes for a boy or for a girl or any neutral themes?

txcuttie09

Most of the stores I've been to have the rainforest themed stuff and at first I thought it was a cute idea but the more I think about the more I dont really want it anymore. I want the theme to be able to grow with them.

Answer
Neutral colours - lemon, green, white
Neutral themes - farm animals, zoo animals, teddies, clowns(can be a bit scary)
Girls colours - purple, lilac and pink
Girls themes - butterflies, flowers, fairies, ballet
Boys colours - blue, red
Boys themes - transport like cars, helicopters, planes, boats, dinosaurs, sports, planets and stars,
We've left our kids rooms cream but added a border of stickers (not wallpaper) which are easy to remove. My son had teddies as a baby and now has cars. My baby daughter has the teddies which have purple in it and I've added butterflies to the theme. I don't like pink either so I did apple green and purple.
