Classic sports cars...?

Ryan

Hi I am looking to buy a classic sports car. The thing is though, i would like to drive said sports car on a daily basis without having to have it frequently repaired like an older Ferrari or Lamborghini. Do you have any suggestions, i would would appreciate any and all help/ suggestions.

Answer
If I was going to get a classic sports car, and I had the money to even think about a lambo or ferrari, I would get something american made for sure, like a corvette z-06 or the new zr1, or maybe a dodge viper. There is no other classic sports car like a corvette or mustang though. You can get a saleen, roushe, cobra, or 2000 cobra R "if you can find one" and to me they are the best looking "affordable" sports cars out right now.

What is a really cool affordable sports car?

Paul

I'm looking for a really cool sports car that is also affordable (something maxing out at about 25.000 USD).
Something like the Nissa 350Z or so.
What do you think falls into that category?
(The manufactor, used / new, etc. doesn't matter. I'm mostly looking for inspiration ;) )

Answer
miata if you want a 4 cylinder if you want a little more power you can still get used SS and z28 camaros. but stay away from anything with front wheel drive or an automatic gearbox. they suck all the fun out of a sports car.

is buying a car with a lot of miles bad?

audrey

im 16 and looking to buy a car. i have to get a cheap one (about $10,000 and under) and every car that i look at has a lot of miles
does that really matter? and if so what happens with a car with a lot of miles?
like 90k miles - 150k.

Answer
Not really sure what you're looking for. I was looking a week ago and saw an Audi A4 with 60K miles for 10K listed locally. Great deals like that come along, just watch and jump. I'm sure you'll be able to find something good.
If you're looking for something japanese, look at Nissan and Mitsubishi. They have the same qualities and appeal as Toyota and Honda, but they are less well known so you get a better deal.
Hyundai and Kia make very good, cheap cars.
However, I think the best deals in used cars are from the European luxury makes. You can have an Audi or Mercedes for the same price as a Camry. I think it's a no-brainer.
Cars.com, Autotrader.com, and Craigslist have tons of listing, so use them all

A quick question about looking for a used car, 10pts please help!?

MissBella

So i'm 21 years old, I make pretty decent money for my age. I have an older mercedes right now I got as a graduation present. I'm looking for either a lexus, cadillac cts, or mercedes no older than 2001.
Of course used and no more than 19,000 dollars. What type of mileage is good? I know nothing about miles for a used car. Can someone help? Thank you, I appreciate it (:

Answer
Under 60K is best. Under 80 is acceptable. Under 100K is probably what you'll end up with in your price range.

I don't understand why you want such an expensive luxury car for someone as young as you. These are old man cars?

why is the delorean a sports car?

Oku24

What details make the delorean a sports car???

Answer
A sports car is a term used to describe a class of automobile. The exact definition varies, but generally it is used to refer to a low to ground, light weight vehicle with a powerful engine. Most vehicles referred to as sports cars are rear-wheel drive, have two seats, two doors, and are designed for more precise handling, acceleration, and aesthetics. A sports car's dominant considerations can be superior road handling, braking, maneuverability, low weight, and high power, rather than passenger space, comfort, and fuel economy.

We have to keep in mind when the original Delorean was manufactured. This was in 1981-1982. During that time, there was very little performance in any car. Fuel economy laws and environmental impact laws never mind a gas crisis made it hard for any manufacturer to have performance in their cars. The Corvette in 1981 had only 190 horsepower. The 1981 Porsche 911SC had only 204 horsepower. The 200hp Delorean (Euro-spec) was right in the mix with some of the best sportscars of the time. (US cars were delivered with 170hp due to catalytic converters that the Euro cars did not require). It's handling was also on par with the better sportscars of the era as well.

The Delorean was considered a sportscar because it was low to the ground, it was a two seater and it had considerable performance for cars at that time. And the Gull wing doors were really really cool for a car built in the 80's.

The 80's sucked for sports cars.

Prudential & Credit Checks?

o

Does Prudential pull credit checks on new employees? The reason I am asking is I applied for a position there and my credit right now is in shreads.

And if I explain to them that all the credit cards are maxed out and not paid from a medical problem will they look over it?

Help please.
Thanks. I drive nothing near a nice car. Its a Hyundai Accent with a big scratch on the side. However I did get a second job at night to start paying off the credit cards but have not yet made payments.

Do some employers look past credit scores if I were to explain all this to them. My credit has no payment on anything in the past year.

Answer
Unfortunately, there is no help. You tell them the truth, and that is all there is you can do. Since Prudential is in the business of finance, then they need to know that those who they hire won't be tempted to embezzle.

I would worry more if you had a Mercedes, or a BMW and maxed out. If you have something of a luxury car that they can see in the parking lot, then I would really worry. Otherwise, relax, and assume that they should still hire you.

Credit Questions (4)?

reid r

1. What are the implications of having either a positive or negative credit history? (Somewhat specific)

2. What would constitute a responsible use of credit?

3. What are three (or more) inappropriate uses of credit?

4. When selecting a credit card, what factors should one consider?

Answer
(1) A positive credit history enables you to qualify for more credit, with favorable terms, such as a low APR, low (or no) fees, small payments. A negative credit history would cause you to only qualify for substandard credit, if any at all. With a negative credit history, you're more likely to be required to provide large down payments, pay high interest rates, and also have fees that are not normally used - it is the price you pay for being a high risk investment. To put it simply, when you are buying a car, or even a house, a positive credit history will give you good terms, but a negative credit history can leave you empty-handed - with no car or home financing. Also, when turning utilities on, applying to rent a place, or even when simply getting car insurance or a job (paying more than $20,000/year), your credit might be checked - and deposits might be required for utilities, you might get turned down to rent, or pay more for insurance than anyone else in your situation - or even not get the job you qualify for otherwise.

(2) Responsible use of credit can come in many forms - making payments on time, keeping balances low in proportion to the total credit limits of accounts, regularly paying more than the minimum due each month, not having accounts open but unused, and not having excessive accounts. Also, your total amount of debt should be within a certain ratio of your income - for example, if you make minimum wage, then debts in excess of $20,000 would be considered unfavorable, because it would be extremely difficult for someone making minimum wage to pay those debts. In contrast, Michael Jackson passed away, incurring $20 mil in debts due to the cancellation of his scheduled tour - and that was just the tip of the iceburg of his debts. For someone who makes a celebrity's income, $20 mil isn't such a big deal - but for someone making minimum wage, $20,000 is virtually impossible to repay.

(3) Inappropriate uses of credit can be any of a number of things. When I was young, I worked next to a Burger King, and thought it novel that I could pay for my breakfast and lunch using my credit card. Without paying the card off in full each month like I should have, I ended up paying interest on those meals. Clothing and entertainment are another example of inappropriate uses of credit, because no one wants to still be paying interest on a pair of jeans that they haven't worn in years - but that's what happens when you use the card for luxuries. A good rule of thumb for credit is to figure out if it is something you *want* or something you *need*. Obviously, I had a *need* for my meals, but I didn't have to use the card for that - I had a paycheck I should have been using. Clothes are a *want* item - unless you seriously have outgrown all of your clothes and no longer have anything to wear - and even that issue can be abused. Financing a car is an appropriate use of credit, since you need a car to get to and from work, etc., but it can also be considered inappropriate if you're, say, in the military, and you're being shipped out next month to Korea or something. Why buy a car that you won't be able to use the majority of the time you're making payments on it?

(4) The main thing to know about selecting a card is what fees are associated with the card. There are a LOT of cards these days that will give anyone a credit limit of $300, but after the $250 in fees to open the account, the consumer only has $50 available on the account. The fees are found in the terms and conditions, in a large box on the page. It will outline late fees, annual fees / application fees / startup fees / any other miscellaneous and bogus fee you could think of, along with any grace period allowed and the amount of days in a cycle. For example, it is good to know how soon after the statement is printed your due date will be - some cards allow 25 days (statements printed on the 1st are due on the 25th), and some allow as little as 23 days, perhaps even less. This means that, as soon as you get your statement in the mail, you might have to put the payment out the very next day, or even opt for a faster payment system, such as billpay with your bank (your bank sends the payment each month), or online payments.

Help with vintage cars for drive-in scene?

Celest

I am trying to create a scene about the peak of drive-in theaters, roughly 1950-1960 but I am not very familiar with vintage cars, especially realistically what people would drive at that time. Could anyone suggest what type of cars could be found at a drive-in theaters in the US during this period, I'd really appreciate the help! Thanks!
Thanks for the help so far, and I really appreciate the tip of choosing cars with a 5 year span max due to limited lifespan, definitely something I didn't know!

Answer
Pretty much any of the common American makes sold during the time frame. Keep in mind that cars did not last as nearly as long as they do now. It was a big event for any car to reach 100,000 miles during this time as it didn't happen very often. They also did not drive them as much. It wan's all that uncommon for a car to be ready for the junkyard in about 5 years. Especially in the north where they rusted out badly.

You would see few pickup trucks at a drive in. This is because trucks were actually considered work vehicles back in these days. They were used mostly on farms and in construction and were not used all that much for pleasure.

Today, when you see 50's and 60's cars, you mostly see 2 door sedans and convertibles. But this isn't because they made a lot of these. It is because these were the cars worth salvaging and restoring. Most people drove 4 door sedans. If they had a larger family they may have had a station wagon. Most cars of the day had few options. Things we consider standard equipment were considered luxury options back in the 50's and 60's. About the only option most cars of this era had was an AM radio, which was an option.

Some of the makes from the 50's and 60's are still around. But there are some that either completely quit making cars or were bought out by the larger companies.

Makes from the 50's and 60's that you no longer see.

Rambler
Desoto
Hudson
Nash
Packard
Mercury
Oldsmobile
Pontiac
Plymouth
Studebaker
Edsel

The Packard would have been a little less common as it was more of a luxury make
The Edsel was also uncommon as it was an unpopular division of Ford.

Foreign cars were uncommon. Most were smaller than what the typical American wanted. Also, most foreign cars were considered inferior. Also, during the 50's and 60's many of the people who were buying the cars were either World War 2 veterans or family of these veterans. They still remembered the war and would never own a car built in Japan or Germany.

what is the best car for me to restore?

devencolli

im 17 and i have lots of time but little money. i want a old car that will challenge me but will pay off in the end. i would like it to stay as cheap as possible.

do u have any car in mind?
post links if u find something. i live in houston, Texas

Answer
If you want to restore something for as little money as possible, you might actually be better off buying an older vehicle that's already decent, as it's far cheaper than a true restoration process.

In a real restoration, nearly every single part of the car has to be replaced or at the very least remachined to take out any defects. Body panels have to be repainted, the entire electric system has to be rewired, the lights and housings have to be replaced, the motor has to be remachined and much of it replaced with new parts. In general, a restoration by a reputable company will cost at least $20,000 plus the original car, taxes, shipping, and other variables. To do it yourself will save money on labor, but the parts will cost more and it will take much longer to complete the restoration.

The best advice, should you want to still do a restoration, is to start with a very common car. Parts will be much cheaper and easier to find. The car itself will be cheaper to buy. Labor will be easier because the car will be covered in older repair books like Chilton's Repair Manual. The downside is, the more common the car, the less it will be worth after restoration and it won't be quite as unique. You can keep some uniqueness in your choice of paint colors, wheels, and factory addon parts that you may add or subtract from the original.

With that in mind, the cheapest restoration project possible are the more common cars from the 1950s to the 1970s. Have a look for one of these models:

Chevrolet Bel Aire
Chevrolet Camaro
Chevrolet Corvaire
Chevrolet Corvette
Chevrolet El Camino
Chevrolet Impala
Chevrolet K-Blazer
Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Dodge Charger
Dodge Dart
Ford Bronco
Ford Maverick
Ford Mustang
Ford Thunderbird
International Scout
Jeep CJ-Series (CJ-5 and CJ-7 are most common, but there also CJ-2, CJ-3, CJ-6, CJ-8, and CJ-10)
Jeep Grand Wagoneer
Plymouth Fury
Plymouth Satellite
Pontiac GTO
Pontiac Tempest
Volkswagen Beetle
Volkswagen Microbus

Any fullsize pickup or van (Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Jeep, International) is also an easy restoration project as parts for these are widely stocked around the country to repair vehicles used on farms, ranches, reservations, parks, cities, and other places you see trucks a lot. Also, these vehicles are far more simply constructed and easier to work on than cars because the designers knew they would be abused and wanted them to be easy to repair to get them back on the job as quick as possible.

You want to avoid any foreign cars (except Volkswagens) and any luxury cars (Cadillac, Lincoln, Packard, etc.). Foreign car parts are incredibly expensive and hard to find. You often have to order them from overseas, and can be duped in doing so by being sent the wrong part or no part at all. Luxury cars use similarly hard-to-find and expensive parts that weren't used on more basic models to make them special, including parts for air suspensions, electronic equipment, swiveling seats, power roofs, and other unnecessarys.

When looking for a vehicle, your best bet would be a junkyard. Ask them for a runner, a car that still runs and drives, or one with a good body but a blown motor. Don't buy one that's been in an accident. Also, keep your eyes peeled for one sitting for sale on the side of the road. These are often far cheaper than the ones you'll find online and in magazines.

I hope this has answered your question. If you have any more, please feel free to ask.

Why is the Toyota Land Cruiser so expensive?

luxury cars history on Super cars in multimillion-dollar road accident in Japan - video ...
luxury cars history image

Curious Ro

I was suprised to find out that it's around $70,000 - more than the price of some luxury cars! What's basically the difference between the Land Cruiser and the Highlander and 4Runner?

Answer
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a legend of automotive history, or more precisely, history of automotive excellence.

Some of the distinctions of the Toyota Land Cruiser are:

1. The 5-year Reliability Percentrank average of the Toyota Land Cruiser is .94 on a scale of 0.00 to 1.00. This contrasts sharply with those of nearly every other large sport-utility vehicle; for example, the 5-year Reliability Percentrank average of General Motors' V8 GMC Envoy is .05 and that of the GMC Yukon XL is .34. For reference, General Motors' overall 5-year Reliability Percentrank average is .31, Ford's is .50, Honda's is .84, and Toyota's is .89.

2. The Toyota Land Cruiser is on AutoOnInfo.net's very exclusive lists of the Best of 2002, the Best of 2003, and the Best of 2004 (the most recent year for which the best lists have been assembled).

3. Based on the engine reliability of vehicles between the ages of 6 and 10 years, the Toyota Land Cruiser is on AutoOnInfo.net's 2008 list of Automobiles with Best Engine Reliability, with an Engine Reliability Rating of +.88 on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00.

4. Based on the transmission reliability of vehicles between the ages of 6 and 10 years, the Toyota Land Cruiser is on AutoOnInfo.net's 2008 list of Automobiles with Best Transmission Reliability, with an Transmission Reliability Rating of +.88 on a scale of -1.00 to +1.00.

5. The Toyota Land Cruiser is on Consumer Reports' 2008 list of the Best of the Best, and is the only large SUV on this list.

To compare the 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser (a large SUV) with the 2007 Toyota 4Runner and the 2007 Toyota Highlander (midsize SUVs), see:

http://www.AutoOnInfo.net/NAEd200704ProductInfoToyotaLandCruiser.htm
http://www.AutoOnInfo.net/NAEd200704ProductInfoToyotaHighlander.htm
http://www.AutoOnInfo.net/NAEd200704ProductInfoToyota4Runner.htm .

With regard to price, you must have chosen some options, as the pre-tax price of the Land Cruiser is closer to $60,000.

With regard to sales, the 2008 sales of the Toyota Land Cruiser are up 69.7% through October 2008, and the 2008 sales of the Land Cruiser's more luxurious cousin, the Lexus LX, are up 207.1%. The Lexus LX, at about an extra $15,000, has outsold the Land Cruiser so far this year, by about 106%.

How do we expand our thinking as it concerns wealth and health?

Immortal C

If asked if they want to live forever, most people answer no. When asked why, they will almost universally respond, they do not want to get all old and decrepit.

I asked some people if they would ever buy a Bentley luxury car at $300,000 if they were rich. The responses I got were along these lines. âNo. Gas would be too expensive.â

These responses are very, very, closed mined. Why do so many people think like this? In the living forever example why do people attach typical human aging to a completely atypical situation like immortality? And when it comes to the car. Why do people still think so small? They are thinking about gas prices without thinking about the fact that they have enough money to buy a $300,000 car.
Being "realistic" is exactly what keeps so many people going to a job they hate everyday instead of becoming something truly great. I guess it is better for the entrepreneurs we work for and make rich if the majority of us continue to think realistically.

Thanks for your answer, Working For a Living. Such an apt name by the way.

Answer
live forever? Have you been paying attention to your history?
If the human condition would improve, It might be worth while to live forever, but when people stand up for a right thing, (ref: Christ, Gandhi, and a litany of others,) they are murdered by those who are only interested in money and power. Even if I were granted such a gift, I would end up dead.
Big cars? Fancy fashions? I like it when I can smell the earthy dampness of the forest. I love to see the sun glittering off the lake. Give me a horse and a blanket. all that fashion and glamor are affectations that people wear to feel better about who they would like to be. spiked hair and Gothic morose, I'll just fiddle by the riverside and drink in life.

I have started a cupcake delivery and catering business.
I have no business :(
How can I promote to the Houston area for cheap?

Answer
You can promote it through Craigslist. You could also make posters for your business that you could put up at local stores. You could try and make a business website, and make your own commercials on YouTube and put a link to the website. Also you could advertise on your car/truck, and everyone in town would see it. If all else fails find a local athlete who has talent, offer to sponsor them for their sport, and they can help promote your products. If you try any or all of these, you should get more business then you currently have.

Answer
PLEASE CHOOSE MINE THE BEST ONE

GALLARDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lamborghini Gallardo is the Italian supercar maker Lamborghini's "entry-level" car, sitting beneath the Murciélago. It is also the first car to feature the new Lamborghini V10 engine - only the third engine designed by the firm. 3,000 Gallardos were built in just two years, making it the company's most-produced model to date. The second-place Diablo took a decade to sell 2,903 examples.

Overview
The Gallardo was designed as a competitor to Ferrari's 360 Modena, and now competes with its replacement, the F430. The car is named after a famous breed of fighting bull and is pronounced roughly "gah-yar-do". Gallardo is also Spanish for the word gallant. Although performance is lower than the Murcielago, it is still very high, and the Gallardo has much better rearward visibility and, according to reviewers, is more maneuverable as well as more tractable in low-speed traffic, making the Gallardo a much more practical car to drive. It is also much more practical to use in bad weather than many other supercars, thanks to rear-biased all-wheel drive. Although corporate owner Audi is renowned for its Quattro AWD system, Lamborghini uses a system of its own.

However, to the disappointment of enthusiasts, Lamborghini did not fit its signature scissor-doors as on the Murcielago, and some owners have fit their own, vertical-opening doors. Lamborghini chose to keep the doors exclusive to the V12 models, as it has done since the Countach when they were first introduced.

At current U.S. prices, a base Gallardo costs about $165,000.

The Gallardo uses a V10 engine based on Audi's old straight-5 design. This engine was split again to become the straight-5 engine found in the new Volkswagen Jetta. The 5.0-liter engine is a current Audi 4.2-liter V8 (featured in Audi's S4, A6, A8, and Q7 models) with two extra cylinders added and a slightly smaller bore diameter.

The Gallardo offers two choices of transmissions, a conventional six-speed manual transmission, and an advanced six-speed electro-hydraulically controlled auto-clutch manual, or, as Lamborghini abbreviates it to, "E-gear". The latter allows the driver to make shifts much faster than an automatic transmission would, with the control that a manual offers. The driver shifts up and down via paddles behind the steering wheel, and does not need to manually actuate the clutch.

Audi, Lamborghini's current owner, plans to offer its own sports car based on the Gallardo architecture, the Audi R8. It would use a V8 in place of the Gallardo's V10 to avoid competing directly with the sister car.

Gallardo Spyder

The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyders at the 2006 LA Auto Show. The production spyder model of the Gallardo was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, 2006. It is considered by the company to be an entirely new model, with 520 hp (388 kW) and a lower-ratio six-speed transmission. The soft top is fully retractable.

Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer was the first person in North America to take delivery of the spyder model of the Gallardo.

Gallardo SE
In late 2005, the Gallardo SE (for Special Edition) was introduced. The SE is distinguished from the regular Gallardo externally by having a black roofed two tone color scheme as well as specially designed "Callisto" rims shod with Pirelli tires, the interior of the SE also follows the two tone scheme. Mechanically, the SE addresses many of the criticisms of the original Gallardo; the steering is quicker and more responsive, the gearbox gear ratios have been adjusted to better suit the V10, and the E-gear now has a "thrust mode" to optimize acceleration, and its power has been increased to 520 hp (388 kW). The SE has a higher top speed of 315km/h, (196mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 250 units of the Gallardo SE will be produced. However, all the mechanical upgrades of the SE will be included in all Gallardos after 2006 (excluding the two-tone bodywork).

Gallardo Nera
The Gallardo Nera (Special Edition) was introduced at Paris Motor Show. The Nera has a top speed of 315km/h, (196mph), and it accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Only 185 units of the Gallardo Nera will be produced and 60 are for the American market.

Looking for long term rental possibly 1 1/2 years or more. The best ones I have heard of so far is a Nativa for 160KD ($560), or a nice BMW for 209KD.

Sports car for around that price would be nice, or something around 160 for SUV, or a 130KD for regular car.

Answer
You are looking to LEASE a car. Don't take the first price they offer you. they are always looking to negotiate. If at all possible see if you can find a Kuwaiti friend to represent you, and you will get a better price

How much does insurance cost a rental car company per car?

Dan

For a company like "Hertz," how much does insurance per year cost them? What if a car company is renting out a sports car like a ferrari? Does insurance cost more? My friend suggested they need special plates that could cost around 10g's. Is this true? Thanks.

Answer
I would bet they are self insured

I am getting ready to resign from one of my jobs and I need to know how to deal with the anxiety it is causing?

bbvc2000

So, I have been working 2 or more jobs since I was legally allowed to work. I am 35 now. I worked in every local hospital, in every department. I also worked for 2 local EMS services. I am currently a manager of an Internal Medicine practice and I am a lab director and a professor at a local college. (Both are full time jobs) Last year I had a minor heart attack and my physician suggested I take it easy. Well I did not listen and continued to work about 80 hours per week. Lately I have been feeling a lot of pressure again, so I finally decided to go down to working only one job - teaching. But now, I have been feeling very anxious and I am staring to have second thoughts. I am addicted to my high lifestyle: new cars, several homes, a very nice bank account and everything (I mean everything) my kids and wife desire. How do I deal with the anxiety of having to work one job? And is there a point of living, if you can't live it in luxury?

I am in full realization, that I am on Yahoo answers looking for guidance. I just got tired of cheesy crap my family and friends been giving me. It is not helping my anxiety of a 40 hour work week.

Answer
your anxiety stems from a problem that's quite unique. to answer this question more accurately i'd have to ask you a few questions. how does your family feel about you working two jobs? one job? are they concerned with the "luxuries" in your life as much as you are? i think your wife would prefer to have a husband a few more years, and your children a father rather than any amount of money. you sound very successful and motivated, i'd recommend becoming involved in something with the free time you have that doesn't benefit your wallet as much as it does your own personal happiness, or the community's. maybe coach one of your child's sports teams?

personally if working forty hours a week was my problem i'd use my newly acquainted time to explore some hobbies. do you own a boat? maybe pick up a paint brush? have you every brewed a beer? as cliche as they sound, you might find yourself more enthused after an attempt.

a more appropriate question.. is there a point of living if you aren't happy? do you require such a lavish lifestyle to be happy?

another seemingly relevant question. are you proud of what you've done in your life?

it sounds like you should be.

i'm no expert, but i do hope this helps and doesnt fall under the same category the other advice you've received has.

good luck 30 years down the road too, if anyone can still benefit from retiring by then..

Did an even trade out at dealership but I want to trade back?

OKbabe123

Is there any way to do this? They completely screwed me. I traded a 2010 Prius for an 07 Audi a3 it's nice and fast but the sticker on it had the wrong mpg on it, they listed it For 30mpg when it really only gets about 18 and I really regret and miss it. They have my car listed on their site for 19,000 already andthe one I got Off their site was listed at 12,000. I was pressured. Get it the very next day with the tricks of it won't be here tomorrow someones coming to look at it now. Is there anything I can do?? Don't call me stupid and say no, that's NOT an answer and I will make sure to spam your answer.

All I did was to Google the vehicle to find this information. You were not screwed and the estimated MPG is posted online for anyone to find it. Your words, "nice and fast." When you drive "nice and fast" then not matter what the estimated MPG is indicated online, on the sticker, etc. goes out the door. I know how to drive a Prius to get 19 MPG. I also know how to drive a Prius to exceed the posted MPG. I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid and the estimated MPG is about 30 MPG. Last night on a 10 mile run, I recorded 38.2 MPG. What you are experiencing is called Buyer's Remorse. It is a classic human characteristic. If you went into this dealership unarmed, uninformed and with googly eyes towards a luxury brand vehicle, an Audi, then you, as the person in control of your destiny, made a decision and signed a sales contract. A contract is final when signatures are placed on the paper. Very sorry that you feel this way but a 2010 Prius is THE MPG champ on the market and obviously you were bored with the slow go performance and wanted more Umph! in your driving time. So, you got the Umph! and now you need to learn how to operate this car efficiently. But it is not a Prius. Nothing is. These are hard lessons to accept but what is done is done. There is absolutely nothing you can do but relax and get to appreciate the car in your garage or parking spot. Remember, anytime you go against a professional without proper defensive shields operating, you shall lose the match. So, have the Audi checked out at a mechanic since apparently you did not do that before the sale. This car is in the 70,000 mile range and maybe in need of a schedule service. This is a nice car and it is quite a step up in quality, performance and status from the Prius. I have owned a 2001 Audi TT Roadster since 2002. It took me three years to find it. I still have and it is a great source of fun and driving enjoyment. I use the ECON mode of the AC to save about two to three MPGs. I drive steady at 60 MPH on cruise to minimize fuel usage. I park quickly and away from other cars and I have zero dings on the car. I look ahead to coast to a stop and unless I have it at the MId-Ohio track taking lessons it is driven in moderation. I get comments all of the time. In fact, your A3, with 200 HP and 207 ft-lb. of torque can beat my car with 180 Hp and sub 200 ft-lbs. of torque. Oh, rather than premium fuel, I have used regular for over 10 years without any ill effects. I use synthetic blend engine oil and I have it serviced every six months. It is all original except for an alternator and one coil. Of course, shocks and struts are changed at 50,000 to 70,000 miles. And everything works except for the worthless headlight washer system. I took that out as the left side kept breaking for a reason Audi mechanics could not, or would not, locate. Best of luck.

I'm looking to buy a used car for under 10k. My top choice is a 2002-2004 audi a4. Other cars I am considering are audi a6, bmw 325xi, and saab 9-3. I live in MN so all wheel drive is a plus. Looking for a good looking luxury car.

However, I keep reading about how costly audi's and bmw's are to maintain. I don't have the money to pour thousands into repairs.

What is a reliable good looking car that is in my price range?

Are these gas prices here to stay?

EsoMan

I remember the days when paying anything more than $1.29 a gallon was considered on the high end (in MN) ... Yet here we sit now... paying close to $4.00 a gallon. Many countries other than the US (Canada and the United Kingdom) were paying higher prices long before our turn came. What do you all think? Are these prices here to stay? Any input on the economics of the whole debacle?

Answer
If they go much higher and continue to do more than double every year then I think innovation will be the only solution that could cause a decrease in the price of gas, but as I see most are pipe dreams and cost and Detroit will work hard to keep Hydrogen, Electric, and any other types of cars out of the hands of middle class consumers.

Even if electric cars like the Tesla and others took, wouldn't there be a surge in electricity pricing? Would you really able to drive at 1 cent per mile if EVERYONE was trying to do that...

I think it only works when the electric car is scarce on the market... but with problems like the battery lasting only 100,000mi tops and costing 3x as much as a new Civic, this is also a pipe dream, regardless of its 0-60MPH time and MPG equivalent.

But what is even MORE amazing to me is how many Americans keep jumping in their 15MPG mules by themselves -- and I love how the justify it with safety (I feel safe when I can't see around the other vehicles... :sarcasm:), with well we have the kids (their 2.3 or whatever the average is... they'd STILL fit in a 5-seater that get double the 15MPG of the mule... :sarcasm:... )

... see, if everyone vehicles suddenly double in MPG capability then wouldn't we have half as much demand?(no because then people would drive at lesuire more, right?)

It'd been nice if people would downsize, but people are too worried about being able to see over everyone else and to greedy to care... the gas crisis will only every be solved if Americans are open to new ways of travel and those means of travel exist. We have a JOKE of a mass transit system.

In other countries where there are no options, and little wealth, that is where you see efficiency in commuting... not in America, because we have had the luxury of not ever needing it before... and these lifestyles will probably die with the people, not a higher gas price.

So YES the high gas prices are here to stay.
It's up to U.S. (or maybe us) to decide when they have had enough... and now is not that time
... so have fun buying that 3.50+ gas
...and have a safe trip on this holiday weekend if you end up driving.

Still though, I'm laughing every time I fill up my car for less than $30... these 1-seater SUVs are a plague people! (and they are only part of the problem!)

-TB

PS. I love how Honda took the CRX (which gets around 40MPG) and turned it into the Insight which gets 60MPG; lets make a small car which almost no one in America drives, and lets make it even MORE efficient... or BMW, they take a car that's already too expensive and then make a Hydrogen or Fuel cell or whatever; oh yeah, that's going to catch on... BECAUSE no can afford it in the first place... the rich people will be able to drive more -- thanks BMW!

Ford is the only maker that is attacking the inefficient car first... these Priuses, Insights, do not make much sense (at least in the US)... but making a 1-seater Hybrid SUV DOES MAKE SENSE! I have restored faith in Detroit (yeah right).

How effect auto and manual gear system to differential separately.?

sports cars 1990s on ... Keepsake Ornament Polar Sport 1990 Christmas Penguin Sports Car | eBay
sports cars 1990s image

It is a Van.

Answer
Manually controlled automatic transmissions

Most automatic transmissions offer the driver a certain amount of manual control over the transmission's shifts (beyond the obvious selection of forward, reverse, or neutral). Those controls take several forms:

Throttle kickdown
Most automatic transmissions include some means of forcing a downshift into the lowest possible gear ratio if the throttle pedal is fully depressed. In many older designs, kickdown is accomplished by mechanically actuating a valve inside the transmission. Most modern designs use a solenoid-operated valve that is triggered by a switch on the throttle linkage or by the engine control unit (ECU) in response to an abrupt increase in engine power.
Mode selection
Allows the driver to choose between preset shifting programs. For example, Economy mode saves fuel by upshifting at lower engine speeds, while Sport mode (aka "Power" or "Performance") delays upshifting for maximum acceleration. Some transmission units also have Winter mode, where higher gear ratios are chosen to keep revs as low as possible while on slippery surfaces. The modes also change how the computer responds to throttle input.
Low gear ranges
Conventionally, automatic transmissions have selector positions that allow the driver to limit the maximum ratio that the transmission may engage. On older transmissions, this was accomplished by a mechanical lockout in the transmission valve body preventing an upshift until the lockout was disengaged; on computer-controlled transmissions, the same effect is accomplished by firmware. The transmission can still upshift and downshift automatically between the remaining ratios: for example, in the 3 range, a transmission could shift from first to second to third, but not into fourth or higher ratios. Some transmissions will still upshift automatically into the higher ratio if the engine reaches its maximum permissible speed in the selected range[citation needed].
Manual controls
Some transmissions have a mode in which the driver has full control of ratio changes (either by moving the selector, or through the use of buttons or paddles), completely overriding the automated function of the hydraulic controller. Such control is particularly useful in cornering, to avoid unwanted upshifts or downshifts that could compromise the vehicle's balance or traction. "Manumatic" shifters, first popularized by Porsche in the 1990s under the trade name Tiptronic, have become a popular option on sports cars and other performance vehicles. With the near-universal prevalence of electronically controlled transmissions, they are comparatively simple and inexpensive, requiring only software changes, and the provision of the actual manual controls for the driver. The amount of true manual control provided is highly variable: some systems will override the driver's selections under certain conditions, generally in the interest of preventing engine damage. Since these gearboxes also have a throttle kickdown switch, it is impossible to fully exploit the engine power at low to medium engine speeds,

What is a good cheap sports car?

I'm looking for my first car, I want it to be a sports car, but a lot of them are expensive. I'm want to buy from the owner only so i don't have to worry about paying off anyone. Looking somewhere between 1500-6000 and any year just can't go below 91. I'm not to good with cars, but I'm trying to learn, I also need one that won't break down, I've heard Mitsubishi's break down a lot so idk... help me out here thanks (:

Answer
Oklatom:

The adage goes: "Good, cheap, or fast. Pick two." So you can have good and cheap, but it won't be fast. Yeah, the OP says he is looking for a sports car, but not all sportscars are fast.

Look for an early-to-mid 1990s Miata or Toyota MR2. Those tend to be pretty reliable cars, and the ones at the upper end of the scale will have been kept by owners who use them only on the weekends and take good care of the car.

You could also consider a 1990s Mustang or Camaro with the V6 engine. They may be beat up inside, and you might have to undo some crappy stereo wiring, but that would be good experience learning to wrench on a car.

Q. It has to have heated seats, comfortable, roomy, good speakers, decent or good mpg, high intensity bulbs for front lights, it can be an SUV or a regular car, can be convertible.. Any help?

Answer
If you want a car that is stylish, sporty, nice, and cheap, you have got to go for the Dodge Dart. In the long run, you will save so much money, its starting at under $16K and its more than 40 miles per gallon. I can bet you that Dodge is losing money making this car. http://www.dodge.com/en/2013/dart/

Another car is the Chrysler 200. Its a luxury car for a cheap price. The design is fantastic and it starts at $18K. http://www.chrysler.com/en/2012/200-lx/

If you want a foreign car, I would say getting the Volkswagen Jetta would be a great idea. Volkswagens are reliable and are pretty well respected cars.
http://www.vw.com/en/models/jetta/gallery.html

Also foreign, and a very stylish and good deal is the Hyundai Elantra. Its highly ranked on almost all car magazine and ranking websites, and is under your price range. https://www.hyundaiusa.com/vehicles/2013/elantra/?

If you want to be futuristic but don't mind having an odd looking car, then look at the entire Scion model lineup. If you can somehow shell out $4000 extra, you could get the Scion FR-S, which is a highly touted sports car. The Scion TC is a nice sedan and the xB is a rugged square that still looks right for the city. http://scion.com

The Toyota Camry is also a nice car which you could probably get for a good deal at your local dealer. It is about $21K but Toyota dealers always give deals to compete against the numerous other dealers in your area. Try haggling the price down to $18K. http://www.toyota.com/camry/

As you can see, the door is wide open. $20K is a lot of money and you can definitely get a good car that you will enjoy driving and will save money with. If you really want to save money, I would get the Dodge Dart because of its MPG range. If you want style, go for the Chrysler 200 or Hyundai Elantra. If you want a futuristic car that people will notice, go for the Scion brand. They are especially made for young people who are looking for cars under $20K

Which are the current fastest, best and coolest limousines today?

Ian

I'd love to hear the top three, in anyone's opinion.

This is for a movie that's being made....so definitely need an aesthetic quality. And speed.

If you can include an image, that would be a big help.

I really appreciate anyone's time and help.

Answer
many people consider full sized luxury cars to be limos. not stretched limos but limos nonetheless.
cars that fit this descriptions are Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Mercedes Benz S class, Bentley Mulsanne, and the Rolls Royce Phantom.
these cars are all very fast. sure the stock A8, 7 series and S class arent much on speed but their sports versions (S8, 760Li, S63 and 65 AMG) are actually very fast. the Bentley is based off of the S8 and the Phantom is just naturally quick.
these cars arent good on cornering because of their high weights but their extremely powerful engines make them very fast in a straight line.

I think the Mercedes Benz S65 AMG might be the fastest with a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds.
the others are fairly close.

here are pictures of the latest models of each. since my idea of good looks might not be the same as yours, I'll let you choose.

2014 Rolls Royce Phantom
http://images.passionperformance.ca/photos/5/1/51315_2014_rollsroyce_Phantom.jpg

other cars that are interesting to look at are the Rolls Royce Ghost and Wraith. they are also quite quick but not as large as the phantom. the phantom also comes in a coupe and convertible version (called the drophead). Bentley also has the Continental, a 2 door luxury car and the Flying spur, a 4 door variant of the continental.
Another company also known for luxury is Maybach but they no longer exist. The last models from 2002 to 2011 when they stopped production were slightly based on Mercedes platforms. (Toyota is to Lexus and VW is to Audi what Mercedes Benz is to Maybach). To give you an idea of the level of luxury and price of these cars. 2 years ago at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, they had one on display. The woman who answered questions about the car and displayed it wasn't allowed to even touch it.

If you were looking for a stretched limo type deal I'm sorry but I can't help you much since these are produced by small companies and often just modify cars that are made by others.

My favorite of the vehicles I've listed is by far the Mercedes Benz S65 AMG. In general, Bentley and Rolls Royce are regarded as the pinnacle of luxury however the latest Mercedes Benz S class has so many cool features, that neither Bentley nor Rolls Royce can match it. on top of that, the S65 AMG is also faster. Here are some cool features that the Mercedes S class has.
Heated panels so that not just the door and steering wheel are heated but everything you touch including the doors and center console are too. Selectable scent air conditioning with scents designed to dissipate quickly and not stick to the seats or clothes. A multitude of massage settings from relaxing hot stone massages, to massages designed to energize and invigorate you. Cameras on the windshield that allow the car to drive itself for short distances, track traffic around you and prevent accidents and scan the road surface ahead to prepare the suspension for bumps giving you an extremely smooth ride. (magic body control). It also has radar and sonar all around the car to monitor traffic to keep you from getting into accidents including lane changing accidents, intersection crashes, late braking reaction to people or cars in front and preventing damage while being rear ended.
For looks I'd much rather take a Rolls Royce Wraith though. The car oozes elegance and style.

Edit: the reason why I didnt include Lexus in that list is because their top model full sized sedan the LS600h lacks the speed that these cars have)

Like right now I'm looking two buy a Nissan 240sx and I see that some are like 240sx [EX] and some [SE]. What do the XE and the SE mean? Also, what would be all of types of 240sx's. Another example of my question if you didn't understand it the first time is like for the Honda Civics there are four types i guess like the Honda Civic DX, LX, EX, AND SI. I know that this is the order of like performance and luxury and stuff, but I want to know this for the Nissan 240sx. Which one would the best there is like the SI for the Honda.

Answer
These letters indicate the trim level of the model.

For example a Civic DX is the lowest level Civic you can by. It has almost no options, not even an automatic transmission. Call it as basic and as cheap as you can get. The LX steps up from that and gives you the most popular options like automatic and a better stereo, nicer wheels, The EX gives you leather and a sunroof and satelite radio and all the good stuff. The Si is the sport model so it is decked out for high performance AND luxury.

Every car company does this so you can tell the difference between the cars.

I can't decide! Do I choose the Saturn or Acura?

b4hgirls

I have the opportunity to choose between the following cars:

Used 2008 Saturn Aura XE
Cloth Seats; Automatic
11,000mi;$16k
-or-
2005 Acura TSX
Leather Seats; Automatic
55,000mi;$17k

On paper it seems obvious that I should choose the Saturn; but after driving the Acura and seeing the quality of interior (not to mention all of the "bells and whistles") I'm not so sure. Both cars drove great but there was no comparison regarding the interior quality.

I so love the Acura! Is it rediculous of me to choose a an older car with more miles at a higher cost over a new car with low miles at a lower cost?

Answer
Acura.

Its a very reliable car and this model will probably save more gas than the Saturn. Also, i think Acura is more of a luxury brand, while Saturn is not You might even find a good deal on a 2008 Acura TSX since it is redesigned for 2009 and dealers probably want to get rid of the previous generation models....

I am a teenager, 17 yrs. I want to buy a car but do not know the type that i should buy. I want a car with upgraded technology, comfort and less fuel consumption. I need help with a car that will serve my specification. Your suggestion is highly appreciated.

Answer
I would recommend the new Buick Regal, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, & Subaru Legacy as far as 2WD cars go, although the Focus is available in either AWD or 4WD, not sure which though.

As for AWD I like the new Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Edge, Buick LaCrosse, Lincoln MKZ, Mazda6, almost all Subaru's, Hyundai Sonata.

Almost all of the cars mentioned get pretty decent mileage, and have optional luxuries. I'm not whether you're looking for AWD, 4WD, 2WD, or RWD, but that should definitely be a factor when choosing your car. Also, you may want to decide on a crossover type car, SUV, sedan, or coupe. You didn't mention your budget so I tried to list a variation of brands. Personally, you should check out the websites of different brands to see what all they have on the market.

www.chevrolet.com
www.buick.com
www.nissanusa.com
www.automobiles.honda.com
www.acura.com
www.subaru.com
www.ford.com
www.lincoln.com
www.hyundaiusa.com
www.mazdausa.com
www.mitsubishicars.com
www.vw.com

Almost all of them have the option for you to compare their model to other brands if you just select the car you're interested and look for the button, it should say something along the lines of compare to other models.

Also, if you are interested in used instead of a new car, I would suggest www.autotrader.com or going to the car's brand website and clicking on the certified used button, sometimes under the button that lists their vehicles or at the bottom of the page. If you can't find it just google... ex. lincoln certified used, it should take you to the website for it. These cars go through a nearly 200 point inspection and are a much better/safer buy than just used car. They often come with warranties unlike non certified used cars.

What do you think of the 2003 jeep grand Cherokee?

It has 75000 miles on it and they want 8500 for it. Is this a good car for a 23 yr old male?

Answer
It is rugged and dependable, but there are so many electronics and luxury features, that is it hard to keep them all working, and expensive to fix.
Mine is older, and I only get about 12 mpg.
But it has good power and tows well.
The rear axles are weak in that there is no inner race to the bearings, so eventually the bearings saw a groove in the axles and they have to be replaces, at $150 each.
But that happens around 240,000 miles, so not an immediate concern.
The question is whether you really want to spend the money on gas for a 4WD?

I can't tell you about the price because it is low miles and it depends on how it looks, how much you want 4WD, etc. But compare it with others on craigslist.
Traditionally you get over 25% off by buying from an individual over a dealer.

How much do entry level car salesman make?

luxury cars magazine on 2012 Luxury Car Buyers Guide written by Martha Hindes : ROAD ...
luxury cars magazine image
Q. For a more luxury/high end brand such as BMW,Mercedes,Lexus,Infiniti,or Porsche.

Answer
Couple of misconceptions here. First off, the concept of "entry level" does not really exist for car salesman. You work on commission, so it's all about you. If the guy that's been there a month sells more cars than the guy that's been there 20 years - the guy that's been there a month gets paid more.

Next, the brand doesn't really matter that much, high end or otherwise. It's all about the profit on each car, and how many you sell. Selling a Ford at a profit of $2K will make you more money than selling a Lexus at a profit of $1,500. Of course, it's easier to sell higher priced cars at higher profits........but it's also harder to sell more higher priced cars in the first place. Pay is determined by total dealership profit, which is determined by how many you sell and profit margin on each.

Car salesman can make anywhere from practically nothing, to $100K/yr (rare, anymore). All depends on you. Check out the articles here:

Is it true that BMW is prone to more frequent and costly service repairs?

mark_hensl

For instance a Mini is a BMW. The upcoming BM1 I hear to be a great car, and I am aware of the "free oil" changes, I have just been hearing increasingly BMWs are expensive to maintain as compared to others. What do you think?

Answer
BMW's when maintained properly are usually above board and don't have many problems.

These are expensive luxury vehicles with amenities which other vehicles don't have. Unless you own a BMW, you really don't understand what others wish they also had. They just see the car, but don't know about the extras and the feel of the drive.

For that reason, cost is subjective. What is expensive? When I was young, I couldn't wait to change my own oil. Now, I don't mind sipping a cup of coffee and reading a magazine while an expert does it for $90.

My BMW's never break down, and never have in the 8 years I have had them. Instead, they are properly maintained according to the schedule.
