Amsterdam and surrounding areas How to get free Rental Car Upgrades in Amsterdam and...?

Shelli

I will be traveling to Amsterdam and surrounding areas. Although, I've spent time in this region I've never been in charge of "THE RENTAL CAR"...I rented cars in US but seldom so any advise on costs , upgrades and discounts for the 10-day stay I woud appreciate. To my surprise taxes are almost as much as the vehicle themselves.

I'm looking for free upgrades or discounts I might be forgetting about..Ive looked into AAA, NSCS, and web sites...I have not seen a "nice sporty car--or even safe" for less than $1000 for the 9-day. Also, the "intermediate " section is something to be desired. What is the intermediate car--An Irkle Car? I drive an infiniti and to be frank; nothing drives like an Infiniti.

So I could use some advice on what type cars are "decent" and "available" as well any upgrades anyone might know about at a reasonable price. Oh, Manual Car or Automatic-does not matter.

Answer
I have used sixti.com on occasion. (leads to sixt.com)
A luxury class is indeed around the $1000 mark - but you could get a cheaper option as well.

For example - a small Renault Twingo would cost you (for 9 days with pickup and return at the airport) around 300 Euro (approx. $425 - source xe.com, july 19th)

For sporty, i`d say a Seat Leon is a good option - which will set you back 387 EUR - 548 $.

I do not know this infinity - except from pictures - and that type would be expensive.
An alternative could be the BMW X1 @ 495 EUR / 700 $.

As these are basic prices - any options will mean more $$$.

For all Saturn Aura owners, how do you like your cars? Did you buy new or used?

Answer
I don't own one, but I was there when my aunt bought a 2006 Aura XE.I test drove An Aura XR, and I can see why It was The North American Car of the Year. It is a Large, Powerful affordable Luxury Car. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be a great car. The Comfortability and ride height is phenomenal and the smoothness of the ride is wonderful. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Remember, no car is perfect.

How come cars have those two letters after its name?

Like right now I'm looking two buy a Nissan 240sx and I see that some are like 240sx [EX] and some [SE]. What do the XE and the SE mean? Also, what would be all of types of 240sx's. Another example of my question if you didn't understand it the first time is like for the Honda Civics there are four types i guess like the Honda Civic DX, LX, EX, AND SI. I know that this is the order of like performance and luxury and stuff, but I want to know this for the Nissan 240sx. Which one would the best there is like the SI for the Honda.

Answer
These letters indicate the trim level of the model.

For example a Civic DX is the lowest level Civic you can by. It has almost no options, not even an automatic transmission. Call it as basic and as cheap as you can get. The LX steps up from that and gives you the most popular options like automatic and a better stereo, nicer wheels, The EX gives you leather and a sunroof and satelite radio and all the good stuff. The Si is the sport model so it is decked out for high performance AND luxury.

Every car company does this so you can tell the difference between the cars.

I can't decide! Do I choose the Saturn or Acura?

b4hgirls

I have the opportunity to choose between the following cars:

Used 2008 Saturn Aura XE
Cloth Seats; Automatic
11,000mi;$16k
-or-
2005 Acura TSX
Leather Seats; Automatic
55,000mi;$17k

On paper it seems obvious that I should choose the Saturn; but after driving the Acura and seeing the quality of interior (not to mention all of the "bells and whistles") I'm not so sure. Both cars drove great but there was no comparison regarding the interior quality.

I so love the Acura! Is it rediculous of me to choose a an older car with more miles at a higher cost over a new car with low miles at a lower cost?

Answer
Acura.

Its a very reliable car and this model will probably save more gas than the Saturn. Also, i think Acura is more of a luxury brand, while Saturn is not You might even find a good deal on a 2008 Acura TSX since it is redesigned for 2009 and dealers probably want to get rid of the previous generation models....

I need help!

Answer
They mean whatever the manufacturer decides they mean and sometimes they don't mean anything. There is no standard. Sometimes these letters are just letters...

Generally speaking, GT means "Grand Tourisme" or "Granturismo" and denotes a sporty version. GL means "Grand Luxe" or "Granlusso" and denotes a luxury version. SS means "Super Sport" and denotes a high performance model. GTO means "Granturismo Omologato" and denotes a limited-edition very high-performance model.

Note that these names are usually in French or Italian, but there is no rule here either.

My favorite were the old Omni GLH and GLHS which supposedly stood for "Goes Like Hell" and "Goes Like Hell Somemore".

To those who know about cars very well. I will choose best answer?

Q. I just asked this very same question awhile ago, and I only received one answer. The answer was fine, but it didn't answer all my questions.

I have 3 cars in mind.

Brand New Honda accord sedan EX, Brand New Toyota Camry SE, and a used 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320.

All cars cost the same. 24K.

I don't like the inside design of the Camry. And I don't like the design of the dashboard of the Honda accord. But everything about the Mercedes is fantastic.

If I choose the Mercedes, will insurance per month or year cost more than the Honda and the Toyota just because it is a Mercedes?

Also, the Mercedes only has 30K Mileage on it, which is good.

Answer
Repair costs on the Benz will eat you alive. Even something as simple as small routine maintenance is an arm and a leg. Also, be careful, you are coming close to the 30K inspection/mainenance interval. Insurance on the Benz will still be more in general due to the price/cost of replacement parts.

That leaves the Honda, and the Toyota. The Accord EX is more of a luxury model and the Camry SE is the sports edition. I am not sure why you are looking at the different designs. Anyway, both are very practical, fuel efficient (Toyota slightly better), and inexpensive to own and maintain. Both are relatively new in design and will look fresh for a few years. However, when you go to trade them, the Toyota will maintain the better resale value, look at the Camry XE, or XLE for yet better resale value.

question about immigration?

for what reasons dont immigrants come to america legally? i mean all you have to do is get a visa, stay in america for 5 years, take a test, and an take an oath. it doesnt seem to hard to me but obviously it is with all of the illegal immigrants in america today. i was just wondering why most immigrants dont apply to be legal citizens of the USA
ok i get the fee part but cant they work the same jobs they would if they were here illegally while waiting the amount of time it takes to become a citizen?

Answer
Hi Saxman

Sadly, most americans thinks is relly easy to get a US visa. But is not. Even if you have some money in the bank is really hard to get a visa. I know a couple, both of them dentist in Mexico. They own 3 houses & their medical clinic which had been established for 20 years. & their visa was declined 3 time. And all that they wnted to do was go to Disney.

Please keep in mind that a big percentage of the immigrants from Mexico & other "Hispanic" American countries are natives & they do not speak Spanish at all. So they come here & not only need to learn English but Spanish.

Also salaries are really low. For example in Mexico the minimum wage is $50.00 pesos per day. Less than $5.00 Dllrs. a day. ( you can check it here http://www.xe.com/ucc/ ). And prices of food, medicines, clothes, are almost the same as in the USA. Also, keep in consideration that the government discount several percentages for IMSS (Like Medicare / Medicaid), Soc. Sec., Unnemployment, etc, etc, etc. from those $50.00 pesos. So just figure. Would you work a 8 hours shift or more for $5.00 or less daily???

While $50.00 pesos is the minimum wage in Mexico, Senators, Congressmen/women, & "Diputados" monthly income starts at $180,000.00 to $300,000.00 pesos.( $18,000.00 to $30,000.00 dollars monthly.) Off course that does not include their diets, allowances, trips, etc, etc, etc,.. Basically what they make monthly will take a regular mexican to do approximately 40 years or more . A lifetime. ( http://www.elsemanario.com.mx/news/news_display.php?story_id=5148 )

I have some illegal friends in USA that are doctors, surgeons, architects, CPA. etc., on their native countries. So we are talking about well- educated people who decided to cross the border illegally or overstay a visa because they will make more working in the USA as a dishwasher than working their profession in their countries. As simple as that.

I am a proud happy usc wife of an illegal mexican immigrant. I had been living abroad (In Mexico) with hubby for almost 2 years now .Thanks to the English that my husband learned while living in the USA illegally, he has a descent income here. And we live confortable. Obviously, not with all the luxuries & quality of life that you can have in the US, but comfortable. But let me tell you,I had experience things in here that I never imaging happening on my life before. Like for example I had seen families not having a bathroom, but a letrine. Not having hot water to take a shower & a house heater. while if freezing outside. Not having a concrete floor, but just sand.No a/c units during summer time. A car &/or taxi w/o a/c. and a lot more.
But the saddest part for me is that I, A US CITIZEN, AM LIVING RIGHT NOW, IS BEING FAR AWAY FROM MY PARENTS & MY 95 YEARS OLD GRAND-MA. Honestly, everyday, I think about when the time comes by,...you know... and my parents would be in charge of everything, funneral arrangements, etc, etc, etc, and they wil not have our support. Obviously I would fly right away, but why our family cannot be together? Why my grandma a USC does not have had the opportunity to meet my hubby? Why?

But, u know what. Even thou I am going through all this situation I am thanksfull. I married the love of my life. My husband is a hardworker, who had always respected me.

Honestly, we need an Immiggration Reform ASAP. There are families being separated. USC, kids, senior citicenz suffering do to this.
