I'm 17 and I'll be leaving for college after this year and I drive a 1999 ford ranger... I'm going to be getting a new car for college and I really want a sports car. I really like the Subaru WRX but I think it will cost too much. What about camarro mustang 350z? What is a good alternative sports car for around 10k?

Like the above person said those aren't really sports cars. But 10K can get you a lot of much more interesting real sports cars.

An older honda s2000 1999 to 2003
A mitsubishi 3000 gt
A dodge stealth

Of these the lotus is the most exotic, to people who don't know cars it could pass for a lamborghini. And with a top speed of 170 and a 0-60 time of 4.5 or so it drives almost like one too.
Also the more exotic cars on this list, the corvette the lotus etc, were likely somebodys second car, so most for sale will have under 50,000 miles.

I'm looking to buy a cheap car this Summer. (will likely be a craigslist buy) I'm looking for something with some muscle/offroading potentia, but cheap and retro from the 80s or 90s.. A couple cars I have in mind would be like a Toyota 4Runner or a Chevy Blazer. I'm not big on cars very much but I'm looking for something like that. I t would primarily be for college so I wouldn't be driving it TOO much, but I would definitely like something more fuel efficient. What is the best luxury SUV to buy used?

I am looking to buy a luxury SUV (i.e., considering Lexus RX, Acura, BMW X5, Infiniti, etc.). Any suggestions? I am looking to get one that has about 50k miles and am looking for value. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Personally, I love luxury suvs, and I want them to be my first car. I most advise you to stay away from American cars, they're junk on wheels. I favor German cars, because they're beautiful, luxurious and powerful, but Japanese cars because of their quality. I must recommend the 2010 Mercedes GLK350- starts at about 33k, sounds overpriced, but its worth it. They last for like 300,000 miles and are very reliable and very comfortable. They get good MPG and are very nice suvs. Google it, and look at it. If you don't like it, I still recommend to stay away of American cars.

I have a car already, a gas guzzling SUV, so I was thinking about buying fuel efficent car for around $7000.

The gas is around $3.49 for 87 and the cars I'm looking at are luxury cars requiring 91 $3.89/gal.

Since when are we in a recession? close to one perhaps. If your house is worth 100,000 less than two years ago, ok twist my arm, call it a recession but don't go blabbing it all around, George W might rush back from Saudi, w/o getting more oil.

So do your part to stimulate the, OUR, economy, buy a nice fuel efficient offering from GM, Ford, or Dodge. How about an 03-04 caddy cts, v6 and regular gas? Still looks great, the 08 cts just won Motor Trends car of the year.

and that is devil may cry 4. wow i have never had so much fun inn my life. It is seriosuly well made and took a week of my life, and i dont want it back.

I can't think of a single company that does. These cars carry a too high of a risk that someone will tear them up. You could try renting directly from a dealership. Some do for an astronomical price, but many will only rent 4 cyl sedans.

With constant power, the force has to be inversely proportional to velocity (F x v = P) . So this is a little counterintuitive if you try to attack from the acceleration point of view...

You should take the approach of energy. See what is the ratio of kinetic energy at speed of 30 KMPH to speed of 60 KMPH . Ki netic energy is proportional to square of speed... , so you would get a certain ratio.

Since the power is constant, the time taken will be proportional to the kinetic energy. So, if the ratio of kinetic energy at 60 KMPH is to kinetic energy at 30 KMPH is N:1, the time taken will also have a ratio of N:1.

I don't want to give you the answer, just give you the principle to use, so you can work it out easily.

Taxes will take 40% off the top (Federal, State, SDI, FICA)
401K contribution @4% : $4800
A nice place will be $20,000 a year.
Car insurance on a late model BMW will be about $1200-1400/yr.
Car registration is a personal property tax based on the vehicle's value (which means you can deduct it) is aprox. $250.
I assume your BMW uses premium gas @ +$2.50/gal. With 20 MPG and 18,000 miles a year (You drive everywhere), aprox. $2000 for gas
Utilities $1000.
Food: $1200
Entertainment $2500

Net: $40,000

I would have said you likely earn enough but I see you live in California and your housing cost is high.
You might want to talk to a credit union and see if you can get pre approved for the model you want since even if you do decide to have dealer finance they will give you a better deal if your credit union is already offering a good rate and talk to your insurance agent to see if which you are most willing to pay insurance on.
that is really about the same price as a car like a Prius 5 so at least before maintenance that model your are considering might not be horrible.
I notice the used cars made by EU companies seem lower priced in California than in states where they are less common at least the 4 door models

New cars and luxury cars depreciate the most. I'd suggest buying something 1-2 years old. Still has warranty, probably still has service contract, close enough to new that you might as well be driving a new car. And 20%-40% cheaper than the same car new.

For $35k you could buy a nearly new mid-range Mercedes which holds value better than most. Or Toyota 4WD which also holds value well.

I've been looking for a convertible thats under $15,000. I've seen a lot of different car like the 350z and 05 06 mustang for sale but I'm looking for cars that no one really knows it out there. Like the Saturn Sky, I just found out about this car a couple days ago and i need some help to see did i miss any cars like the Sky. I'm really looking a 05-08 thats under 15,000 sports car.

You named them, and there is a reason that when you find them that the price is where it is at. GM tried to capture a portion of the small affordable sports cars with these cars. So I would suggest you do some research on this car. Reviews and reports on just how good of a car it is.
For a while these were the low end price wise for sports cars. They displaced the Miata as being the most affordable convertible sports car.
But it takes more then looks and price to beat the Miata. If you ever drive them both, you will find out why those of us who want a real sports car don't give either of them a second thought.

Do I still have plenty of time to get an 8-cylinder sports car and get a good deal on it?

Q. Unfortunately, it's looking like SUVs and sports cars and other vehicles with guzzle gas are going to stop being made and no one's gonna buy them anymore. I would much rather have an 8-cylinder like a Camaro Z28 or a Firebird TransAM. Everyone else might be switching to tiny, unsafe, wimpy Hybrid cars that can't take a hit in a collison and take all day to go from 0 to 60.
I wouldn't wanna be caught dead in one of those degrading, ugly vehicles that I find to be a joke. I would much have that 300+ HP from a Firebird or a Camaro. They look more cool, are much faster, and are a little safer in case of an accident.



I hope the decreased sales will mean lower prices, not the other way around.

Was it just luxury sleeping cars? Did they build street cars/trolleys there as well? I know the Pullman company manufactured both of those but I'm not sure what was exactly made at the factory in Chicago. As for the time period I'm looking for 1910-1930ish.

It's not our health care and food or people from other countries wouldn't come here to take part in the abundance. But you need to pick apart the mortality statistics to find out that the data is skewed. Since the figures are averaged, it appears that we're dying younger. But if you consider that our mortality rates among young people are elevated because of the wealth we enjoy, you'll see that if a person doesn't die of carelessness before the age of 25, he/she stands a very high chance of outliving people from most countries.

Why is insurance on a mitsubishi evo high?

It's just another sports sedan,It has LESS power than a v6 Camaro and mustang, yet, the v6 mustang/Camaro have lower insurance, and i see teens drive them ALOT. And I see reviews saying evos are really bad on insurance, I don't think it's fair, they raise insurance for a sports sedan, with less horsepower than a typical v6 Camaro/mustang or sports car.

GTA 4 is definitely worth it, especially if you can get it for that cheap. It's a lot of fun, and will hold you over until GTA 5 comes out.

There are some modified versions of real sports cars like Vipers, Corvettes, etc. in the game. Enough to be having fun with, in my opinion. There are a lot of mods out there to get you real world super cars, though.

How do you survive in the woods when you are homeless?

Q. Okay so my husband and I might be going homeless by this Tuesday. We have a place to stay which is private property, the woods. All we have is a tent, blow up mattress, a van , pillows, sheets, blankets, clothes, and some food. But that food will obviously run out soon. So what is there really to eat at the woods?

By the way, my husband has been looking and applying for jobs for a long time and still has not gotten hired anywhere. He applied at supermarkets, construction, janitor, etc, but nothing. So the woods might be our next destination.

That's terrible, you should gets your passports, work visas and sell or borrow whatever you can and get a couple of plane tickets to Australia. There are millions of vacant jobs here and not enough people to fill them, the wages are over three times more than in the US. Believe it, it's not going to any better soon, it's best to get the hell out, while you can. Than living in the woods, bush or whatever, eating squirrels and worms.

I got my sister, husband and kids out of the US, and as soon as they got off the plane in Australia they both got full time jobs, on there first interviews, and love it here so do there kids. There are want adds on windows every where you look, and the newspapers are full of jobs. The US dollar is only worth 90 cents here and it's going down everyday.

By winter it will only be worth 70 cents in Australia, and all hell is going to break loose when all the summer jobs finish. Three friends and I have been given $120,000 to go on a trip to anywhere in Africa. We have ten days to be in Africa, and want to visit four different countries. Transportation will have to be paid for in the $120,000 (i.e. Plane Tickets, rental cars, etc.) and so will hotels. It wil be summer in the US, but winter in Africa. What kind of clothing should we pack? Where should we go? Where should we stay? Please include links! :-)

Apart from Mali Benin Gabon and Togo you seem to have picked a list of the most hazardous places for tourists to visit.. Getting around Africa can be quite difficult because of closed borders and the documentation to take a car through a border can be excessively bureaucratic.

Flying within Africa can be hazards because of poor maintenance and the absence of air traffic control from much of the continent (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa are exceptions). Never rely on a schedule or timetable for anything in Africa. It is a continent when things happen when they happen not when they are scheduled.

I would recommend that you track down a travel agent that specialises in African travel or join an overland trip with an experienced operator such as Intrepid (budget) and Abercrombie and Kent (luxury)

I have 6000 (preferebly under) to spend on a used car. What are some of the most reliable/fuel efficient cars?

I just sold my sports car due to gas milage and being a struggling college student insurance kind of stunk. I have 6000 (but prefer to spend 3500-5000) on a car. It has to be fuel efficient, reliable (i replaced a transmission in my previous car, and know there will be bills with a used vehicle, but it'd be nice if it had a low maintenance reputation), and under 100k miles. A manual is preferred as well.

Some cars i've looked at

cobalts 05-08 (although reviews were scattered and claim all types of problems)

Civics (seem to be overpriced as people ask well over kbb)

Vw jetta tdis (high high miles.)

I'm asking if anyone has any suggested years or models to help me out if possible, thanks for your time.
I forgot to mention slight details. It will need a clean title, and hopefully have decent resale. I don't plan on keeping this car over 2 years before i give it to my girlfriend.

Appreciate the response, unfortunately 18mpg is what i previously got. I know crown vics run forever, but they're boats in their own way.

I plan on paying off the vehicle in full, and i can do the required tb change at 100/140k every car requires for parts cost in my garage.

I believe 5-6000 is a very reasonable budget for a basic model car 50-90k miles, i don't expect a new off the lot vehicle but considering it's a buyers market i don't see any reason why i shouldn't be able to meet my expectations!

Go get yourself a late 90s (or younger if you can budget it) Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis (without airbag suspension), pay it in full and get liability insurance with uninsured motorist and enough PIP to get you buy.

Problem solved.

Not the most fuel efficient car, but I'd trust it a lot more than an overpriced POS econobox. Besides, beggars (you) can't be choosy. You need a car that works before anything else and those Ford Panther cars do just that. Your requirements are out of your budget and most econo cars (like any VW and many Hondas) under 100k miles have timing belts and you're going to be forking out over $1000 just to deal with that pretty soon as most of those cars have (tah dah!) a 100k timing belt change interval.

A Japanese water-cooled motorcycle, the engine is just as reliable and long-lived as a Japanese car. 100k miles is just properly broken in. 8^)

Air-cooled bikes don't last as long because the engine operates under a wider range of temperatures, but even a modern air-cooled bike should last 75-100k miles, then need new rings, maybe new valves, and be ready to go another 75k miles. I have a 1978 BMW that I ride almost every day. It's got 70k miles on it, and it's gone through one set of rings, but still has the original valves, and the original clutch.

But in the real world, it depends on how the bike's been taken care of. The really super sport bikes (GSX-R, CBR, R1/R6, etc.) have a narrow power band up near the redline, and a really 'enthusiastic' rider can thrash one of these in 30k miles. Things like oil changes and valve adjustments are really crucial. Also, many bikes tend to just sit in a garage for several years, and there are things that wear out faster on a bike if it's -not- ridden.

Normally you should never be afraid of a bike with 33,000 miles on it. But you have to look at the previous owner and make a judgement as too whether he cared for the bike properly.

FIrst of all, if you did your research, you will have found that it is very unlikely to find a DB9 or R8 in existence for under 70K. If you do happen to find one in that price range, you should be extremely wary. Used exotics have a reputation for poor reliability and high maintenance costs. Cars that are more likely to be found in the 50-70K price range would be a used: Ferrari 360, AM V8 Vantage, Mercedes SL, Maserati Quattroporte or Bentley Continental GT, new: BMW M3, Audi S5 or a Porsche Cayman.

Secondly, what type of car you need depends on your lifestyle. If you have kids, or haul around lots of things get the X6. The the new generation Porsche Cayenne has just been introduced and won't be on sale for another couple of months, making any Cayenne you may buy right now old news. If you don't really care about that, great job, you probably saved yourself a lot of money off the MSRP as dealers are trying to make room in their lots for the newer cars. I personally would never get a car that's just been replaced by a newer generation.

The X6 is a great car. I think it looks very nice (contrary to the opinions of many other people) and it drives like a sedan. An even more practical car would be the X5, as the X6 is short on rear headroom, seats only four and has a smaller trunk. However, the X6 is much better to drive. I've driven an X5 xDrive35i and it felt sluggish.

The Mercedes ML 550 is aging, but it is a very great car to own and drive. I have a ML 500 and I can tell you it is a great car to drive and very practical for many things. However a replacement is due in 1-2 years.

What kind of car you should get is entirely up to you.
