How do Young women (18-25) afford Sports Cars?

AllorNothi

Nissan 350z. Mitsubishi Eclipse, Mustang GT convertible, Hyundai Tiburon even Corvettes? How do women come up with the money?
@ Thuper Duper: I work and save my money I'm 19 now
i'll be about 24 until I can afford without any debt a 25,000 dollar car and insurance all by myself
@ Secretose: OMG I know you dont think I actually hate women. This is Gender Women's Studies. I 'm simply trying to figure out women thats all.

Answer
Perhaps the same way most girls get expensive cars, through their daddy! As for me I would not want any of these cars, not even the corvette, true I may want the corvette's motor though, depending on the year and the model of the vette itself, but I prefer old muscle cars, when racing was truly at it's finest. =P

Best used sport / luxury car for $15k with around 35k miles?

Guanabana

I have ask this question before, but every time people just give me suggestions that are over my $15k budget (some of them WAY over my budget) or are simply cars that are not luxury, nor sport cars.

I am looking for a car that is

A used luxury or a sport cars
For $15,000 or less
with around 35k miles.
That makes at least 22 mpg combined
Pick ups and anything that uses diesel is not a luxury car.

I would be really grateful if you add a ebay link or if you see anything in my local market (Miami).
Bill, it is quite more common to find low mile sport and luxury cars than you may think. Sometimes the owners do not used them as their main mode of transportation, or they just don't drive a lot. My current car is from 2004 and it has barely 60k miles. Actually I have found a few cars in my budget and miles (mostly Audi A4, Acura TSX, late 90s early 2000s Porsche Boxster (doesn't meet my MPG criteria, but I have seen a lot with that kind of millage) just to name a few.
Brent, I ask because after doing my own research, I might find that others people opinion may be valuable or they may find something I overlooked. Yes, those are entry level luxury cars, but are luxury cars. I don´t need to go over 150 mph to commute to work. I want a car that is comfortable and with amenities and if I can´t find that, a car that is at least fun to drive. The Audi A4 is not related with the VW Passat other than sharing the engine, and the Acura TSX is not related at all to the Civic, other than being build by Honda (it is the international Accord, as the TL is also based on the Accord and like a lot of luxury cars are based on other midsize cars). If I wanted just a fast car, I could get a Mustang GT like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT-Premium-Coupe-4-6L-Fuel-economy-EPA-highway-mpg-23-and-EPA-city-m-/130863557190?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e78136a46=

Answer
$15K is a little low for a used luxury car with 35k miles. The average vehicle is driven 12-15k miles per year and based on that you would be looking for a 2-3 year old luxury vehicle. Most anything in the luxury category would sell for a minimum of $40k new and few, if any, would depreciate $25k over a 2-3 yr period. Good Luck

Good 80's Sports Cars for Drag Racing?

2010 Kawas

I am looking for a good sports car from the 80's to fix up. I can't spend too much. I love the older designs. I am looking to make this car into fast and good looking car. Like the cars that you might see in Fast and Furious Movies (Not saying there are any old sport cars in the movie series, but I want to tune it up and design it to be fast and look great). And I want it to be a manual transmission. I will be using it for track AND street use.

Answer
1989 Nissan 240sx. You can literally put anything from a KA24e (single cam four cylinder) to a big beefy 6.2 Litre LS1 V8 (Camaro/Firebird/Corvette engine)
Cant go wrong. Handle amazing and hella fast

Which car would win in a drag race?

Which car would win in a drag race?

2014 cla 250 edition 1 or a 2010 mustang v6?

I'm just interested to see which car would be faster! Thanks!

Answer
Motor Trends Sports reports the 2014 CLA 250 has 1/4 time of 14.7 sec with 0-60 in 6.2.

Real results posted on allfordmustangs.com for stock 2010 mustang with V6 were 15.2-15.9 sec in 1/4 mile with 0-60 in 6.5 secs.

Pretty big disparity in 1/4 time - Mercedes would win.

What equation do I use for this problem? (how do i do this problem)?

Bethany F

In a car accident involving a sports car, skid marks as long as 290 m were left by the car as it decelerated to a complete stop. The police report cited the speed of the car before braking as being "in excess of 100 mph" (161 km/h). Suppose that it took 10 seconds for the car to stop. Estimate the speed of the car before the brakes were applied.

Givens: distance = 290 meters, Vf = 0, Vi = 44.7 m/s & time = 10 seconds

Answer
Given,
x - x0 = 290 m
vf = 0 m/s
t = 10 s

Solve:

Using the following kinematic equation, [1]
x -x0 = ½ (v0 + vf) t

Rearrange the terms in the kinematics equation, solve for v0.
v0 = 2 (x - x0) / t - v

Plug in the values and calculate,
= 2 (290 m/s) / 10 s - 0
= 58 m/s

Using dimensional analysis,
v0 = 58 m/s x (3600 s / 1 hr) x (1 mi / 1.6 10³ m)

Ans. v0 = 130.5 mph

1.A 500-kilogram sports car accelerates uniformly from rest, reaching a speed of 30 meters per seconds. During the 6 seconds, the car has traveled a distance of _____m.

2. A vehicle moves in a straight line with an acceleration of 8 km/h^2. BY how much does the speed change each second?

Answer
1. a = (v-v0)/t = (30-0)/6 = 5 m/s^2
x = x0+v0(t)+0.5at^2
x = 0+0+0.5(5)(6^2) = 90 m

2. acceleration is change in velocity per time...so speed changes by
8 km/h = 8/3600 = 0.002 km/s = 2 m/s

Luxury Car or Fuel Efficient Car?

Maverick C

im looking for my first car, and i have 3 contenders. For luxury im looking at a Chrysler 300m, and fuel efficiency a Honda civic and Toyota corolla. now i know the civic and corrola would probably be way better choices cause of mpg and reliability but after driving in friends luxury cars its too good to pass up.

also the car i have been driving with my permit is a pretty powerful car and i like the way it drives and handles, and so i feel like i will need a more powerful car cause i drove my sisters and i just didnt feel comfortable, it felt like i was driving a toy car. so anyone that has driven any of these cars or anyone that can provide input (also all cars listed will probably be from 1999ish or 98)

Answer
The words you used to describe the feeling you got when driving your permit car were "i like the way it drives and handles". The Chrysler 300M is a very heavy car. Luxurious, with a powerful engine, yes. Though the suspension is quite soft for comfort and it does NOT handle as well as a Corolla or Civic. While it's sporting ability is higher because of it's engine and rear-wheel drive traits; it's heavier with a softer suspension; in the end, if you know how to handle torque steer; driving the Civic or Corolla will just plainly be funner than the 300M.

I would say get the Civic. For normal city driving, the Civic and Corolla will have a more than sufficient in power and handling, and the fuel efficiency is great. Luxuries in the 300M that arent offered in the Civic and Corolla are what I like to call "frills" to the driving experience, and while nice, they are not necessary. If it's a nice comfortable ride you're after, then perhaps get a Civic/Corolla and swap out the springs and shock absorbers for softer variants? It'll still cost less than the 300M with still a pretty nice comfort.

In the end it's your choice. I feel you want the 300M very badly, but due to fuel efficiency and cost, you want to choose a Civic or Corolla. Let me just tell you that BOTH cars are very sufficient for your needs; both cars can be comfortable (with modifying or not), and both can be fuel efficient (you're going to have to modify the 300M to make that thing fuel efficient to be honest.)

Good luck on your choice! And my personal opinion is the Civic!

Does an 8-cylinder sports car like a Camaro Z28 REALLY have better gas mileage than a 4-cylinder GMC Sonoma???

coreyrules

I'm getting these repsonses saying that the manuafacutres lied about the gas mileage and that it's too small of an engine to give good gas mileage to a truck that weighs 3,100 lbs.

So with an 8-cylinder having 305 hp for a car that weighs 3,500 lbs., this means that I'd be getting like 25 MPG for the highway, as opposed top the Sonoma's 18 MPG, am I right?

Answer
gas mileage depends on the year but yes the camero probably does get better gas milage because of the power to weight ratio that it has. the camero's being 11:1 (hp:lbs) while the sonoma that probably weights about as much but only get around 150 hp out of the 4 banger which would give it 23:1 so you would be using more gas to get you truck going that the camero uses. Also depends on turning my dodge v-10 truck has about the same engine as the viper but the viper gets twice the gas mileage and more power even though they weight the about the same.

Trucks made for pullin', cars made for goin'

Best Gasoline for 4 cylinder car?

Gary

What is the best type of gasoline to buy for a 4 cylinder car with 20k mile on it?

Answer
Regular unleaded. Premium is not necessary unless you have a high compression engine(if you have an import sports car). If your car says to use Premium, use it, but if it just says unleaded, its best to use unleaded. Most people think that premium is cleaner and produces more power, but its used in sports cars with high compression to prevent knocking and preignition, which can damage your engine.

Renting a nice luxury car vs. limo for wedding.....Opinions?

Q. I read in a bridal mag here in Atlanta that you could and will save more money if you rented a nice luxury car as opposed to renting an limo for just a few hours.

By the way, our ceremony and reception will be held at same place.
I was thinking maybe rent a limo to take bridal party to location and rent a nice car to carry my fiance and I away.

I dont know, just give me your opinion on what you have done or thinking about doing. I think my step-dad my rent us a classic rolls royce, which they had at their wedding, but I am thinking where could we all save money. HELP!!
I think that my parents may front the RR rental.. they keep asking me about it. And I think that they have a nice relationship with the company

Answer
if your reception and wedding are at the same place then dont get a limo!! where are you getting ready? if everyone is getting ready at a house and then going to the church then maybe a limo is a nice idea but how is everyone going to get back to their cars??

i would only get the nice car to take you away at the end. saves money and headaches

what are the best 4 wheel drive luxury sedans?

kenvhq

Answer
I would have to go with the Audi's with Quartto. Quartto is their all-wheeel-drive option.

They are really great cars and definatley in the luxury class of sedans.

Look at the A4, A6, and A8 depending on the price range and luxury you are looking for. All of them can have the Quartto option.

how do you set the drive wheels?

Matthew T

i was wondering you have cars with front rear and all wheel drive all cars with the engine in the back are rear wheel most cars are front or all wheel my question is HOW do the make the car front of rear wheel drive what is done to make it rear wheel drive when the engines in front? and is it possible to convert a rear wheel to a front wheel and vice versa or a rear or front wheel to all wheel drive what exactly is done from factory as far as setting the drive wheels go?

Answer
If you have lots of money, you can convert anything to anything. The most entertaining example I can name is the Ford Festiva (4 cyl, FWD) converted to the Shogun (6 cyl, RWD) by putting a mid-engine V-6 behind the driver seat and driving the rear wheels. See link below for explanation by Jay Leno, he has one of these in his collection.

Essentially this is taking a $6000 car and doing over $30K worth of work to convert it from FWD to RWD. Doable but not PRACTICAL.

For cars built from the factory to be front engine, rear drive, there is a significant transmission tunnel lump in the middle of the car that provides room for the transmission and drive shaft to connect the engine in front to the wheels in the back. RWD is generally preferred for performance in most circumstances, but as noted it takes away a little interior space and costs a little extra weight.

For cars build from the factory to be front engine, front drive, the floor may be completely flat, so it may be more roomy for a 3 person wide bench, so some classic luxury cars like Cadillac Eldorado are front drive because it makes a "roomy" interior. If the interior can be flatter and more roomy, then it can be a little smaller and lighter for equivalent interior space so FWD maybe is slightly cheaper and better economy from the factory. And apparently in really icy areas they tend to prefer the FWD or 4WD. But on clean dry pavement, RWD is more controllable and tossable, you can steer with both the steering wheel and throttle. FWD the more throttle you give it acts against steering effect... spin front tires and steering stops working effectively.

Sports car insurance... Wil it be cheaper if...?

dereknaut

Well im 18 years old and still live with my rentz. I have a job and i make 1400-1600$ a month. I have only a few minor bills. Here in about 3 weeks im buying a 1996 pontiac firebird v6 coupe from a dealership. Before i buy the car i need some insurance info. Iv been to over 10 of the leading insurance companies and gotten rate quotes and there all 400$+ a month.. This is suprising because i only payed 120$ a month for my old car ( f150). So im wondering if my insurance will go down if my parents add me and my car to there insurance? If so how would i go about this? And how much of a price difference would it be? All answers are appriciated.. **No Spam Please**

Answer
It may be cheaper if the car is in your parents name but it will not be cheap. Read below for the rules on cars and drivers in the same household;

Insurance companies want to know about all licensed household members (it does not matter if they are young or old) so they can calculate their potential risks for having you and these drivers covered by your insurance policy. When you purchase liability insurance (which every auto insurance policy has), there is a law that requires insurance companies to cover all household members who have a drivers license. Most all insurance companies will require that you either add licensed household members to the policy or exclude them. This is because as household members it is assumed they have access to your vehicles and may drive them at any time. These drivers are thus a risk/rating factor to be taken into consideration.
Many state laws require it, and your policy contract has in it terms that say you must inform them of licensed drivers dwelling in your household, so that they can add him as a driver to your policy and rate accordingly or exclude him. Excluding anyone from your car insurance would mean that you are not paying extra on your policy to have him/her as a driver and thus they are not extended any coverage by your insurance policy if they were to drive your car and be in an accident, even if it were an emergency situation.
So most insurance companies will require you to place the non-relative household member on your insurance policy as a driver if he is licensed. All licensed household members are normally required to be listed as a driver or excluded on an auto insurance policy by the insurance provider.
If you have a licensed household member, whether a relative, roommate, etc, the insurer believes that the person will have access to your vehicle and thus is a rating factor that should be on your insurance policy. If the person really is not going to drive the insured vehicle then there should not be an issue with excluding them. Without you signing off on the exclusion the insurance company cannot really believe that a licensed household member may not drive your car.
State laws differ however. Typically, insurance companies are allowed to use classifications that reflect a possible exposure for liability on the part of the insurer, in the event that bodily injury or property damage occurs due to the operation of the vehicle by anyone in your household.
The perceived risk for non-household members by an insurance company is different and that is why you can normally let a friend that does not live with you borrow your vehicle without adding him or her to your policy.
A friend may occasionally borrow your car and be covered by your insurance because they do not have regular access to your car and thus are not rated as a risk factor on your policy. If you do have someone outside of the household that regularly drives your car then normally an insurance carrier usually would also want this person listed an occasional driver so they would be properly covered in an accident.

Sports cars with cheap insurance?

Charles

I am 16 and I am looking for a sporty looking car, with good horsepower, but that wont kill me with the insurance rates like Mustangs, Camaro's and Trans Am's would. Any suggestions?
Also it has to be an Automatic

Answer
I owned an eclipse convertible, but now a musang convertible.
(Mustang parts are pretty cheap... though the insurance is higher.)
The eclipse insurance is cheapest among the sports car, but certainly isnt the cheapest among cars. Maybe you should look into getting a non-sports car two door.... two doors always appear sportier than 4 doors, in any model. Cobras are sporty and nice looking... with rates being on the lower side. They arent too expensive to buy, either.
Also, consider taking a defensive driving course.

High-power Job + New Car?

Mike

Has anyone heard of a company giving a new high-position hired person a car?

Answer
I have worked for a company that offered their sales representatives and marketing executives a company car. However, they were not luxury vehicles (Chevy Impalas or Crown Victorias) Some of the vehicles had the company's logo on the side.

Short answer, yes some companies do offer the employee a company car. The downside is that the bean counters at accounting will want to know the mileage put on that vehicle and will question the employee if they are surpassing the expected mileage per month.

I like a few, but what is your dream car?

Scion xB--Fell in love with this car 3 years ago,
Nissan Maxima I also like pickups
Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 and

Honda Prius (drove one all day today and loved it!)

i don't necessarily need a luxury car to be happy. I'd be happy with any of the above
I mean Honda Accord hatchback and a Toyota Prius, lol

Answer
1993-1999 Ford Crown Victoria with handling/performance package (dual exhaust, 16 inch rims, heavy duty suspension, etc.)

I like pick-ups too but since I live in NYC and size is somewhat of an issue for parking (you wouldn't know it because I currently drive a 1981 Olds Delta 88), but I would pass the full size models for a Ranger or a Chevy S10.

That's actually what I might get for my next car, a Chevrolet S10, extended cab-short bed, 4 cylinder, stick-shift, probably the most efficient RWD American vehicle made in the past 10 years.

Sports cars?

I love sports cars, although I really don't know many.names. I'm meeting up with some friends i haven't seen in a while and they share my interest. I'd like to be able to impress them with my 'knowledge' of some great cars!! but i am talking specific cars, not just a general make.......
Thanks!!!

Answer
No worries! So what Iâll do is just give you some specific topics that are all the buzz in the Sports Car world right now:

1.BMWâs brand new E92 M3. The car improves on the old E46 M3âs inline-6 engine to a V8 that is actually lighter. 0-60 times are under 4.5 seconds. The reason why BMWâs M3 is so great because it marks serious competition to Audiâs RS4, Mercedes-Benzâs E63 AMG and achieves 420 bhp figures without Turbocharging or Supercharging. It also is the first time the M3 has been offered in Coupe, Sport Sedan, and Sport Wagon since the late 90s. The M3 is expected to handle phenomenally due to the low center of gravity, achieved with a carbon-fiber roof.

2.Next, the Porsche 911 Turbo and GT Range. The new 911 GT3 RS (RS = Rennsport) is the race version of the non-turbo 911, it has a wider track and is very lightweight due to carbon fiber materials on the body. The rear spoiler provides massive down force and puts the GT3 RS as the most anticipated street-legal race car in the world. The up-and-coming GT2 and GT2 RS are Turbocharged versions of the GT series, estimated to vastly outpaced the Regular 911 Turbo by 51 bhp and an expected 3.0 second flat 0-60 time. That car will be out in Mid-2008.

3.On the American Front, Roush Racing has produced a 415 bhp Ford Mustang that has upgraded suspension and power upgrades. The overall package vastly exceeds the performance of all Mustangs, including the GT line. The archaic rear 3-link solid-axle suspension is ideal for drag racing, but on a regular track, the Ford is severely inhibited. This has always been a problem with Mustangs, poor handling. Roush Racing upgraded the suspension and now the Mustang is very formidable on all tracks.

4.The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 will no longer be the fastest car in the world. The Koenigsegg CCRX is staged to beat the top speed by using an ethanol fueled engine. The E85 biofuel produces more horsepower than regular gasoline, making the CCXRâs supercharged V8 produce more than 1,100 horsepower. The Koenigsegg is arguably the purest hyper-car. It has no Stability Control, Traction Management or electronic aids. The Car is completely reliant on the driverâs skill, even at high speeds. The Bugatti is loaded with technology like Stability Control, All-Wheel Drive, Launch Control, and advanced Variable Turbine Turbocharging.

I gave you some starters. These are really specific. Your best bet is to stick to Porsche and BMW; they are clearly identified as Sports Cars. Mercedes-Benz is a matter of opinion. Many contend that Mercedes-Benz is not aggressive (in handling) enough to be considered a pure Sports Car, despite the amazing AMG Division. The same goes for Audi who is still trying to get over the High-Priced-Volkswagen stigma; however the S4 and RS4 are excellent cars.

I left Japanese Cars off the list because there is only one comparable Sports Car in all of Japan: the Lexus IS-F and itâs not even out until October. Unfortunately tuner cars donât really count and even the Mustang mentioned above is questionable. The stock Mustang, as it stands, it not competition to any German Car, but the Roush Racing version is very impressive. I tried to be balanced. I hope this help.

Is a front-wheel drive car considered a true sports car?

z4d

Title says it all.

Answer
FWD sports car?!?! Not in my world.

Firstly, you can't effectively put more than 300 or so horsepower through a FWD car or you start to run into problems.

Second, it's difficult to hang out the rear end of a FWD car. They just want to under-steer themselves into the bush or worse.

Thank you; but I prefer the steering at one end of the car and the driving wheels at the other end.

Are front wheel sports cars more fun to drive than rear wheel drive sports cars?

Jeffersons

Yeah, but the take off in a front wheel sports car is like getting on a roller coaster. You can feel that pull.

Answer
First, there have been very (very!) few FWD cars where you could even have a debate about "is it a sports car." So in order to have this question in the first place you would have to assume the existance of the FWD sports car. There are certainly some possible examples and pretenders, but real sports cars?

Let's pass on that for a moment and look at why sports cars bypass FWD: sports cars are, by definition, about sport, And motorsport is about performance. From an engineering perspective there is one reason and one reason only to make a car FWD - and that is, assuming the engine is in the front of the car, it is much cheaper to make it FWD. Every other reason about drive wheels are reasons not to have FWD (though, you can almost make an argument that FWD is more forgiving of panic induced resonses by unskilled drivers... so maybe two reasons for FWD if you include that).

The more you accelerate in a FWD car the less grip you have to your drive wheels. Given limits of grip and what a tire can do, you will experience understeer on corner exit when applying the power. These two issues alone mean that FWD is simply slower than other configurations... and as for pulling? I suppose if you were to add a bunch of trailers behind it that it would be somewhat similar experience to a rollercoaster, but still not really.

So, with all of that said: while you can find a particular FWD car that might be "more fun" than certain RWD cars, as a generalization, the gap between them is so great it's simple to just say "no, FWD 'sports' cars are not more fun than RWD sports cars." I've had fun driving a number of Mini Coopers before, and think Mazda has some decent FWD packages out there (though again, not sure any of these are actually sports cars)... but compared to a Porsche 911? A Ferrari 430 Scud? Not close. But you don't even have to go to those exptremes, they do not measure up to a Mazda Miata.

So again, in short: No.

was the atlanta race deja vu for junior?

know it al

did juniors' run at atlanta remind anyone else of daytona? he was 27th at the start of the first green/white/checkered, and 20th at the white flag.

now i've already been reading on YA today how hater nation is saying "he got lucky" because everyone in front of him crashed, but yet he passed 5 cars on the last lap that were NOT involved in crashes, including jeff gordon and jeff burton.

this was just eerily similar to daytona, when he was 16th at the start of the first green/white/ checkered and finished 2nd.

oh, but of course he wouldn't have been able to do this if NASCAR hadn't cheated for him.
i also love how hater nation has been saying "he sucked all day", when actually he ran in the top 5 for the first hundred laps of the race before an unscheduled pit stop trapped him 2 laps down.
where'd kyle finish again, johnf?

BRAIN: if a 15th place finish is typical for junior, how could it be way above his average, you're contradicting yourself moron.

Answer
I can relate how he passed some car's and 'got lucky' by other car's crashing in front of him, but...there's no *astericks* in the Nascar record books like other sports. He finished 15th. Period. Maybe those guy's shouldn't have crashed! If Junior was in the crash the haters would be like ha ha he crashed he sux! No matters what happens, haters will always have an angle.

I'm going to Atlanta for the NASCAR race on Labor Day weekend. Where are the best bars and restaurants in Atl?

Tom H

Any good NASCAR sports bars? And/or happening neighborhoods in the city and surrounding areas?

Answer
Well, I am guessing it is at the Atlanta Motor Speedway which is about 20 miles South of Atlanta....

So unless you want to drive all the way to Atlanta, here is a good place

Finish Line Cafeâ - Atmosphere is good and so is the food. Geared toward Nascar fans and just a fun place to have a good meal and talk to fellow race car fans
