Hello! I'm 16 and I am looking into buying a new car in the next six months.
I'll have about $15,000 to spend on this car.

I have came down between my top two favorites.
A 2006 Acura TL or a 2005 Audi A4.

Which is the safest? Most fuel efficient? Any pros and cons? Which will be harder to get fixed? Easiest to drive?

Anything that you think can help me out is appreciated!
Thank you very much!

Pictures of each car:
Acura - http://www.cargurus.com/images/2009/02/22/14/36/pic-48996.jpeg
Audi - http://www.edmunds.com/media/reviews/top10/05.luxury.cars.under.35k/05.audi.a4.500.jpg
Also, if there is another car you think might suit me (that is still pretty) feel free to tell me about it!
Hehe, this is my 2nd car. I have a Jeep now.

Answer
I would get the Acura TL. Looks better and more reliable.

Good near-luxury sedans for under a 35k base price?

Soraandaxe

Looking, will accept a v4, put preferably a v6 or v8...exterior doesnt matter much...interior is where you spend most of your time with your car, so a nice luxurious interior is a must. im thinking of the 2011 toyota avalon or camary...or a honda accord...any cheap audi's would be nice to know about too...remember UNDER 35K!!!

Answer
I have a Chevy Malibu LTZ. It has a V6 (252 hp), 6 speed auto trans, leather heated seats, dual power seats, every option except sun roof, auto climate control, chrome trim everywhere, & many more standard items normally reserved for a luxury sedan. It was $28K. I had another $3.5K in rebates & discounts, so it was a good deal. It's also a Consumer Reports recommended buy. I wanted a Caddy CTS, but my budget would not allow it. But I have all the same near luxury items it has anyways. Good day!

Moving to Dubai for 1-2 years max. Budget of 35k usd to buy a car. Should I buy a new one or a used?

luiscarlos

My objective is to loose the less money possible when selling it after 1 1/2 years. Maybe getting a 3 year old luxury brand car or getting a NEW economic car?

Answer
New cars and luxury cars depreciate the most. I'd suggest buying something 1-2 years old. Still has warranty, probably still has service contract, close enough to new that you might as well be driving a new car. And 20%-40% cheaper than the same car new.

For $35k you could buy a nearly new mid-range Mercedes which holds value better than most. Or Toyota 4WD which also holds value well.

Here's a few tips about buying cars in Dubai...

How much does car insurance cost in a month?

Pavel_B

How much does car insurance cost for inexperienced driver? I'll be a newcomer in Winnipeg. I'd like to buy used car to drive to college. Can I buy a car and get a drivers license with a student visa?
Thank you.

Answer
Vehicles tend to be a very expensive luxury in Canada, something that if you can do without, you will save a lot of money.

First there is the cost of the car. Expect to pay at least $5000 for something that will work reliably in Canada's climate. Winnipeg is not a place you want to be with a car that decides it won't start on cold winter mornings or nights.

Next there is the gas. Manitoba gas prices are currently hovering around $1.22 per litre. That's actually lower than the Canadian average (I paid $1.41 this morning in Quebec) but still not something that a college student can really afford to pay unless they need the car to get to work as well as school.

Then there are the added costs of license and registration. Manitoba has an interesting scaled method of calculating what you pay. You start at zero (0) and for each year of safe driving, you get +1. For each year of bad driving you get -1. Your driving fees depend on what your current rating is. For example, no rating and no demerit points? You pay $65 for your license. Not sure how much vehicle registration and a license plate will cost you (looks like $100). And you have to get the vehicle inspected to make sure it is roadworthy and emissions are ok ($55 charge).

Finally, we get to insurance. Everyone is expected to get insurance, and basic coverage is given by AUTOPAC. But there is also optional coverage, so you can get more coverage or different coverage depending on your needs. Basic coverage looks like it is $500 per year.

So all this money going out to get you transportation. And we still have not looked at any possible maintenance costs, parking lot payments, breakdowns and costly towing and garage fees.

As a student, you probably want to look at the Winnipeg public transit. You get a reduced fare by being a student, don't have to worry about finding parking near the school, and all the money you save will pay for the public transit monthly passes.

You can still get a Manitoba license, so that if you want to be able to RENT a car and use it to go out of town for some holiday or downtime, you can. But it's all up to you.

Hi! I'm doing a presentation on building plastic models, and for my introduction I'm planning on "tricking" the audience, first by showing a diorama model of a sports car (such that the photo looks like the real thing), then show another shot of the same car, so the audience knows it's fake.

If you can redirect me to a link with such pictures, I'll appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Help! What lens would replicate an almost exact proportions of a car?

Mr. Magnum

Hi! does anybody notice when taking shots, lets say of your favorite car doesn't quite capture its beauty & proportion? (for example, you would always be amused that an Aston Martin/Ferrari/Jaguar would always be lower and longer in actual than what you would see on the photos - I am a beginner and currently trying to shoot photographs on my SLR certain exotic cars.) What lens could i use to at least replicate the image proportions of an object, namely sports cars? Would a wide angle lens be ok?
Any infos would be great. Many Thanks.

Answer
It's not just about lens. You must have a good camera with sharp and exact photography , you also need lighting, and some times filters which can use it with camera or through a software.
So if you have already a good camera think what do you want to show about the car for example always tele lens make object soft and wide lens make things exaggerate in size and shapes . Be sure if you have a sun light it be in a time that light go on car diagonal some time like 9 in morning or 5 -7 in afternoon. Also in the sunset times the colours going to mystery. But if you have a lighting in side try choose 3 or 4 source of light and make the car with shadows and lights shining.
IT's always use wide angels lens to more emphasize wonder. but the size of wide is up to you . don't go far and make your photos more realistic.
So you are ready to use a software to more colourize your pic
Good Luck

Can a rear wheel drive sport car drive in winter with snow tires?

sports cars good in snow image

freefallin

I have an infiniti g35 that I just bought this spring and its first winter with me is fast approaching. its a rear wheel car, and I know sport cars in general are not made to be driven in snow. But, if I replaced all four tires with snow tires, will it perform as good in snow as any other car?

Answer
Sure they can, I see them all the time. Get a separate wheel and tire combination. Its a good idea to go a size smaller with the wheel size, this also means the tire will be narrower. Tire rack has winter tire wheel packages, they also explain the winter tire wheel downsizing.

What is a good sports car that can be driven in the winter?

crazy_bass

Hey everyone. So I am looking for a fun sports car, but its going to be my daily driver so i need to be able to drive it in the winter. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am looking to buy something used for under $5000. I am open to any kind of suggestion, some of my ideas were an eagle talon, grand prix gtp, maybe even a cadillac(cheap and easy to find). Any help is appreciated.

Answer
I had a Mustang, Camaro, Trans Am and a Corvette and driven a Ferrari and none of these are good in the snow. If you want something for the snow, get a 4 wheel drive truck.

What would be a good car for a budget of $7K and how many miles should I expect it to have?

luxury cars under 7k on Top 10: used luxury coups you can afford - MSN Cars UK
luxury cars under 7k image

Over The R

I am looking for opinions so tell me your preferred make model and how many miles you think is too many and how many is reasonable

Answer
First is first. Nothing over 110,000 miles unless there has been a tune up or some major work done on it.

For $7000, milage really depends on the year of the car and the type of vehiacle.
Cars from japan(including luxury, entry level, SUV) 30-150k
Cars from Germany/other European brands(Volvo, Saab, etc) 60-110k
Cars from American 40-80k

These include luxury cars, so meaning that it would have higher milage if it's a more expensive car and lower milage if it's more of a entry level car.

Cars from Toyota would be under 140k
Honda under 130k
Chevrolet under 100k
MB under 70k
BMW under 70k

I've seen some 2006 Honda civics that go for about $6000 with around 50,000 miles on craigslist. Also there are plenty of good condition BMW 3-series around me going for about $6000 that range from 1999-2003.

Im looking at a 2000 Audi S4 or A4 1.8t(16 lbs boost), any recommendations or dissatisfaction with these cars?

Q. I'm really searching for a luxury car with a turbo, and these two have caught my eye. Has anyone had one? Recommend or thumbs down for them? Or any other cars you'd recommend under 7k? Thanks

Answer
S4 is a pretty good deal, though the stock shifter is a bit inprecise. Nothing a bit of modding can't cure though:)

I'd stay away from the A4, looking from a modding point of view, the S4 is a much stronger platform to start with.

I know its not luxury, but a car definatly worth looking into would be a '98 mitsubishi eclipse gs-t or a galant vr4, which is sort of the prequel to the evo series. Galant still has that 4 cyl turbo charged engine though, also perfect modding platform. Sorry im sort of a mitsu fan!

Hope this helped!

Well, I would go for a BMW from the 90s+ with about 100,000 miles on it or less. They last to 200,000 usually so there ya go. Other than that i would say a Toyota Avalon might be what you are looking for, but I dunno if people would say Damn to that!

I'm looking for a new used luxury car. I'm current getting 33 average MPG with mostly highway driving. I'm looking to get the same or better MPG with a newer car. I require a luxury car, and not an entry-level model. Two or four doors is OK. What would you recommend to me?

Answer
BMW 335D 23city 36 highway.

Are there any luxury cars that are fuel efficient?

Carlos

When I say luxury I, for the most part, mean cars like Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Bentley, Porsche and cars of that nature. I guess most production, street legal cars that go over $100,000. By fuel efficient I mean at least 25mph which I know is not that good but luxury cars aren't that great with gas mileage in the first place. I'm not looking to buy anything in the near future, just a little curious.

Answer
Mercedes and Porsche make a few diesel models. But most are less than $100.000, but Porsche does have the Panamera Diesel. It get's pretty decent MPG and it costs over $100.000.

But all the other cars you named are not fuel efficient. Luxury cars above $100.000 also have really big engines that put out a lot of horsepower.

Most top luxury cars average around 15mpg I would say.

MEASURED FROM THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.
1) What is it called and where is it?
2) What is the "altitude"?
3) How much higher is it than Mt. Everest?
4) Does that higher altitude have any physics significance?

Answer
Mount Everest

It is one of the seven wonders of the natural world. Not surprisingly the highest point on the earth's surface is located there on the border of Nepal and China. Although the exact height of the mountain have been disputed by surveyors for many years the most recent measurement revealed the mountain to stand at 8850 meters, nearly 5.5 miles. The adventure that led to this result took place in May 1999. Bill Crouse and his crew set an expedition to find the height of this point. Six months later they returned and claimed to have found the exact measurement of the highest point on earth's surface.
Mount Everest is the highest peak in the Himalayan mountain range. People were unaware that it was the tallest mountain in the world until 1856. George Everest of India made the discovery. Plate tectonics show that the height of Everest is still increasing at a steady rate of approximately one centimeter (0.394 inch) per year.

Mount Everest is over 8000 m above sea level. Winds travel at 161 kilometers per hour; the windchill is often 96 degrees Celsius below zero. At such high altitudes as Everest, less oxygen is able to enter the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. The amount of oxygen usable for breathing is determined by pressure in the atmosphere. The greater the atmospheric pressure the closer the oxygen molecules. At high altitudes, atmospheric pressure decreases, and air molecules are further separated. Therefore there is less oxygen that is able to enter the lungs.

Though most people have recognized the highest point at Mount Everest, Mount Chimborazo located in the city of Rimobamba, Ecuador may also be considered as the highest point on earth. Although it is not as well known as Mount Everest, standing at 6310 meters it is also quite remarkable. Mount Chimborazo can be regarded as the highest point on earth because the planet is widest at the equator. The summit of Mount Chimborazo is then 3219 m further from the center of the earth than Mount Everest, making it what some consider the highest point. On the summit of Mount Chimborazo people will weigh less than any other location on earth.

As the highest point on the earth's surface, Everest has become the ultimate challenge for any determined high altitude climber. A group led by George Mallory first attempted it in 1921, however the summit was not reached until 1953 when Sir Edmand Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay of New Zealand survived the challenging task. Edward Whymper of Britain was the first man to successfully reach the summit of Mount Chimborazo in 1880.

One of the highest places you can take your car is to Ojos del Salado in Chile. This is the world's tallest volcano at about 22,560 feet. If you live in the U.S. and want some place closer to home, try Colorado. It's many tall moutain peaks make for good high altitude driving.

"And then thereâs the Volkswagen exec, who stands up and announces that his company now holds the world record for highest altitude attained by a stock vehicle. Rainer Zietlow, some guy who claims heâs attained fame by taking stock vehicles to extremely high altitudes, piloted a stock Toureg with the base 3.2L V6 to the peak of Chiles Ojos del Salado, the worlds tallest volcano. Guiness marks the record altitude at 19,950 feet. Perhaps VW should tag its Toureg with the title of âBest Luxury SUV above sea-levelâ."

The other claim to the highest road (therefore the highest place accesible by car) on Earth is the Manali-Leh route (300 miles) just north of Lahore in the Indian Himalayan mountains.

It crosses four high passes which range in height from 14,000 to 18,000 feet.

At Leh, the Khardung La, claims to be the highest point.

The link below is to a very old army map showing some of the route.

How do you survive in the woods when you are homeless?

Q. Okay so my husband and I might be going homeless by this Tuesday. We have a place to stay which is private property, the woods. All we have is a tent, blow up mattress, a van , pillows, sheets, blankets, clothes, and some food. But that food will obviously run out soon. So what is there really to eat at the woods?

By the way, my husband has been looking and applying for jobs for a long time and still has not gotten hired anywhere. He applied at supermarkets, construction, janitor, etc, but nothing. So the woods might be our next destination.

Answer
That's terrible, you should gets your passports, work visas and sell or borrow whatever you can and get a couple of plane tickets to Australia. There are millions of vacant jobs here and not enough people to fill them, the wages are over three times more than in the US. Believe it, it's not going to any better soon, it's best to get the hell out, while you can. Than living in the woods, bush or whatever, eating squirrels and worms.

I got my sister, husband and kids out of the US, and as soon as they got off the plane in Australia they both got full time jobs, on there first interviews, and love it here so do there kids. There are want adds on windows every where you look, and the newspapers are full of jobs. The US dollar is only worth 90 cents here and it's going down everyday.

By winter it will only be worth 70 cents in Australia, and all hell is going to break loose when all the summer jobs finish. There are a lot of us expats who work and live in Australia, you can't no longer live in the states, our country is bankrupt and it has been for a few years. They can't keep printing money or borrow from China anymore.

If you got a fridge, car or whatever sell it to get the hell out. A lot of US Americans are getting out and going to Canada, New Zealand or UK but there aren't many jobs there nor are the wages as high nor is the dollar is strong as it is here. You'd be very surprised on how many US American actors, singers, business's, company's etc are moving here before the crap hits the fan and end up in a tent next to you and your husband if you don't get out.

The weather here is like in California and Sydney is a sister city to NY, it dose cost as much to live Sydney as in NY. But the wages are a lot more and no religious people here, so everything here is open 24/7. Everyone speaks English and this country is as big as the US only with just 22 million people so it's really laid back and friendly nobody here lives in tents, trailers, cars or gets paid in tips it's all wages. You don't get homesick either TV, the stores and everything is the same. There opening Costco's, Lowe's, Ben and Jerry's everything here and need staff. There is no problem of getting a job here in anything you want to do. All industry's here are booming, there is no recession here and never has been. The wages are so unreal, women get paid the same rate as men it's all equal opportunity employment and your job is protected by laws. I'm talking high five to six figures, even minimum wage you take home around $800 a week after tax.

You can rent a furnished room for $150 with free utility's a week, with a swimming pool in the back yard till you get cash together to get an apartment or house. Milk is $2 a gallon and bread is a $1 a loaf and there are heaps of free bee places to eat. Nobody here ever goes hungry or ever lives in appalling conditions. The Australian government even sends luxury liners to the Pacific Islands to get workers. If you can speak English and have school or trade certificates get yourselves here even if you have to swim. Don't fall in the homeless trap your walking into. http://yanksdownunder.net/index/
Addition..
A lot of us living and working in Australia know how financially bad it is there, with the high wages we earn here, we can send money home to help out family to pay bills or get them out.

Answer
My pick would be a 2009 Caterham Superlight R500. It's the best performance car you can get for under 100k (somewhere around $75k). It outperforms most Ferrari's as well, including the F40. It does 0-60 in 2.88, 1.1+ lateral G's, 0-100-0 in under 12 seconds.
http://www.traraba.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/caterham-r500.jpg

If you're looking for a luxury 4-door sedan, go for the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG (about $93k). I'd call it a luxury sports car because it can do 0-60 in 4.3 and can reach 186 mph.
http://www.zcars.com.au/images/2008-mercedesbenz-cls-63-amg1.jpg

If you're looking for a sports coupe, go for the 2004 TVR Sagaris. It has extremely sharp styling, does 0-60 in 3.6 (from a 4.0 liter inline 6). It carries a price tag of $116k.

sports cars of the 1950s image

Craig S

Seriously, 12-11? What is the point of even bothering with the game if it doesn't truly showcase the sport? I know goals are exciting, but this is cheapening it to the point that it's worse than the NFL's Pro Bowl.

There was a time when this game actually mattered to players and fans. I'm not sure how to get back to those days, but I think it would be great to see the best players in the world actually play to win.
LITY - Thanks for taking the time on research....I'm just curious why you think it's become so high-scoring as compared to thirty years ago. Was it a case where they didn't care but still played hard back then?

Answer
Since you first posted this question, I've taken the liberty of calling several dozen player who have played in the all-star game going back to the 1950s, and not one of them said the game mattered to them, in fact, several of the Canadiens greats I talked to felt it was a waste of time in the 60s and 70s. Several players admitted showing up simply because they were obligated to.

Similarly, 31 of the last 34 all-star games televised in Canada have drawn the smallest audience for a nationally televised game. The early numbers for this year indicate a similar trend. So, the game doesn't seem to matter to the fans.

There was an interview with Steve Shutt on a Montreal radio station this past weekend, and he thought the game was on it's last legs in the 70s when he played his first game, and what he saw and heard this past weekend amazed him it still continues.

This game was so important to the players in 1962 that several of Chicago's stars only played 4-5 minutes of the game against the NHL (I almost dressed for that game along with 9 other rookies) all-stars.

For the players, the game has never had meaning, and the inclusion of the mini-skills competition in 1990 and the full skills competition a couple of years later has revived the early portion of the weekend, but has actually lessened the importance of the game.

I was at the post-game party Saturday night, and there were lots of fans who had tickets for the skills competition, but could care less about the game. The actions of Lidstrom of Datsyuk have been heard loud and clear as well.

We'll have to wait and see what adjustments are made between now and Phoenix (if Phoenix is still there even).

Craig - I think you can chalk it up to Gretzky/Lemieux, higher salaries, etc. The top salaries are 26x what they were 30 years ago, and everybody wants to protect their investment. The game has become faster, more end to end, and the players are playing more for the fans these days than they did 30 years ago.

In the 70s, they played because they had to, now every player is out to be a star for himself (maybe the possibility of winning a car does that). I see less pride in playing as a team now as compared to 30 years ago , more of an individual show now (in my opinion)

Could it be that most practiced psychology is just pseudoscience?

Dirt

Don't feel attacked.

Shouldn't we see beyond it, and just ignore what they say is wrong with us? DSMIV is very negative in its descriptions. It has also been proven that most psychologists don't really know how to diagnose a 'disease'. Isn't it sometimes ok to feel bad. Happiness seems so narrowly defined: as if only the winner matters (at least in our western civilisation, it seems)

Some clarification:
I have a girlfriend who is a kinesist. She basically gives people exercises to strengthen their muscles. But do people do the exercises? No. Do people believe these exercises work? No. Only when she does some sort of massage/heat therapy, people claim they feel better. When in reality, this is mostly a hoax and isn't scientificly proven. (kinesists do this just because people want it, and if it has an effect it is mostly just placebo). The exercises on the other hand do have a positive effect.

Same thing with psychology, but even worse. I have a feeling as a patient you have to follow first 'their' story about what is wrong with you. And then the treatment can begin. Instead of all this I think that most of the time it is the other way around: there is nothing wrong with me or you. Every person with my/your genetic/human make up, would react in the same way. I believe that our society is the true culprit.

Some examples that might clarify what I mean:
- tabaco: sigarets, big companies invest in publicity, people get addicted, people (smokers) get blamed for second hand smoke.
- cars can drive more than 200km/h while most places in europe wont allow speeds to exceed 120km/h, people get blamed for driving too fast, when in reality car companies could limit how fast cars drive.
- fat people get blamed for being fat: 1. publicity by sportsmen for mcdonalds or pizzahut, 2. 'more food is cheaper' 3. coaches who promote a healthy life style by excessive sporting, etc...
- global warming gets blamed on individuals, while the greater issues are left unhandled

They make you feel guilty, while most of it is out of your hands. It's like the hidden agenda from the 'Holy Church' all over again.

I'm sorry if my ideas seem somewhat disconnected, but there is a line running between blaming the common man and companies doing the most damage all be it subtle.

Answer
Pseudoscience? Hmmm. This is what I was told most psychologist "evolved" from- yes for a long time there has been followers of old Frued and then every one that came after. How ever, neuropsychology is what I have read, that psycholgist came from. That back during the the spooky 1950s they where "mapping" the brain in a different way. The neuropsychologist were suposed to be able to say what part of the brian was damaged by having the person answer questions or complete certain task. They were also doing greusome animal testing like finding out that electrical stimulation of the pituitary gland produced instant rage. Thus, they would conclude the pituitary gland was at least one affected part of the brain during mental diseases that included rage .

Then, one fine day in 1973, the MRI was invented. Bye bye. So the majority of them had to find something else to do. (No not really, but the job they used to function in is now filled by MRI.) It does a better job or course. And I think the majority will be phased out if not already happening. When I say phased out I mean function in a talk therapy setting only.We do still have neuropsychologist but they function as psychologist most of the time. People use them to discover learning disorders and some vague symptoms of brain damage.

My thing about psychology is this: a human is used to test another human. Humans are prone to mistakes, distractions, bad days, misunderstandings, memory, boredom etc. Also I have seen and heard many people say either a new psychologist (or even the same one) had changed the diagnosis. So we use an imperfect 'tool' to make a diagnosis. And it ends up in the end to be an opinion. Until there is some reliable test, I will remain a skeptic.

See how I slipped in calling them toools? LoL

And the 1973 thing is true. If your not too old then they came into somewhat regular use in select hospitals by around 1980. Even in 1990, when most large hospitals owned one they were used selectively. Now we can look up a cheap MRI on the net and get one at any radiology center for $650. Report included.

I don't and never have liked the idea of a person who could diagnose a person with a disorder and have all his peers still agree his education is still not good enough to prescribe medicine. If they can talk to some one and make them feel better, fine. I don't think they should be able to diagnose.

What are some really nice sports cars out there?

I'm planning on getting a sports car, but I'm not quite sure which one I want..

I would prefer a Honda, Mitsubishi, Nissan.. but anything else is fine to.

Please answer some suggestions. : )

Answer
As stated by other posters, you need more info here. Most essential is your budget. You can get a sports car for anywhere from $10K (like a Mazda Miata) to $1M for some Super Cars.

It would be also helpful to know if you are looking for a true sports car (typically 2 door/2 seater) or a sporty car (which could include sedan and hatchbacks). Here is a breakdown by price for you though, in my opinion these are all great cars.

Super Cars - way expensive - McClaren 12C GT3, Koenisegg Agera R, Mercedes SLS AMG, Bugatti Veyron, Lexus LFA, Porsche 911 GT2, any Lamborghini, any Ferrari

Super Cars - expensive - Ford GT, Corvette ZR1, Audi R8, Nissan GT-R, Mid level Porches, Viper, any Mercedes with AMG engine,

Sports Cars - expensive - Other Vettes, Low level Porches, BMW M series, Audi RS4 (sedan - Last production year was 2007 in USA), Cadillac CTS-V coupe, Lotus Exige/Elise

Sports Cars - Mid Range - Mustang GT (New model only), Nissan 350/370 Z, Subaru WRX STI (rally), Ariel Atom 3, Infinity G35 Coupe, BMW 135i, Audi S4 (sedan), Audi S5, Audi TTS, Camaro SS, Challenger SRT8

Sports Cars - Cheaper - Honda S2000, Audi TT, Mitsuibishi Lancer Evolution (rally), Subaru WRX (rally), Mazda Speed3 (hatchback)

May have missed some but that's a good list.

I'm looking for a sports car for under 10k. I'm obviously looking for a used one. I'm looked at a few older Porsche Boxsters and MR2 Spyders. What are some other really good looking cars that would be under 10k? It also has to have no more that 70k miles on it. I don't want one that's at the end of its life.

Answer
A Boxster will cost you an arm and a leg to maintain. An MR2 is a good choice but the last generation of them have almost no luggage space, so keep that in mind if you want to use it regularly. Likewise a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice could probably be had for that price, but again almost no luggage space. The best sub 10K sports car is a Miata, hands down. Fun, quick enough, durable/reliable, and economical.

How do sports cars drive through bumpy roads?

I see a whole lot of sports cars on Indian roads these days, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and not to mention Bugatti. How do these cars negotiate the pot holes, bumps and uneven Indian roads? Do they actually get dented or is there something that can be done to avoid getting dented?
I meant, dented at the bottom

Answer
I think if they were driving them sorts of cars, they would avoid potholes like the plague. Put if they did happen to go into one the suspension would stop the car from getting scraped on the ground, as these exotic sports cars have very hard suspension, the harder the suspension the quicker it rebounds.

They could also put a leather covering where they think would touch the road, this would stop scratches.

Why cant the 'black church" help the communities in which they are located?

Slippery(O

There are so many black churches in the black community. And yet the black communities are in poverty and full of blight and crime. So why cant the black leaders and members just help the communities around them, and not just help themselves only?

BTW: I know all communities aren't like this, but most of them are. Take Detroit,Chicago and Atlanta for example.

Answer
My church from back at home does. They offer free tutoring and social programs for the children.

But I agree with you that too many of the Black churches, atleast the "mega" Black churches, don't do enough, if anything, for the Black community. A lot of the pastors and ministers are greedy and they only cater to their self-serving agenda. I have been to a "mega" Black church that had several offerings and the pastor justified it by saying that "We don't serve no broke God". All of the money that they allocate from this hustle is only used to finance their luxury cars, vacations, and numerous homes.

Btw, the mega church that I attended was in Baltimore.

Mega churches can do a helluva lot more. They have the money and resources to do so, but like I stated, the pastors are greedy and only serve themselves.

I'm in the usa and unemployed. I would like to work temp in Queensland Australia. How can I find a job there?

SK3

I have a recreation and leisure studies BS degree. I'm unemployed in the usa. I would like to travel to AU and work there temp on a work visa. I will not be able to drive in au (because of the wrong side of the road driving).

How can I find a job there? I would like to be near the Southern Brisbane area if possible. Thanks.

Answer
If you can get a work permit there are theme parks south of Brisbane on the Gold Coast. That might suit your degree.

http://www.themeparksgoldcoast.com.au/content/tpgc_home_v2.asp?

http://www.tourismgoldcoast.com/tours_themeparks.html

There are also plenty of hotels and other tourist stuff ranging from luxury to camping and hiking facilities in the country just inland.

I have not tried driving on the right, but according to a friend of mine it is not difficult, he hired a car in Atlanta and drove to New York via inland states. No problem. So driving on the left might not be a problem for you. I would not try it on the highway from the Gold Coast to Brisbane first though.

Road signs are similar to those in the USA and the UK.

Which is the overall better car, BMW M3 vs Jaguar XF?

John M4

Which is the better overall car, obviously its BMW but it drinks alot more gas. What is your opinion?
Hop off man, I am fu**ing asking for opinions.

Answer
You're really comparing apples to oranges. The M3 is a purpose-built sports coupe, and the XF is a luxury sedan that just happens to come in Supercharged flavor. The XF is not offered with factory performance options other than big brakes, while the M3 is geared toward the enthusiast with many options and aftermarket performance accessories available. So a better comparison would be the Jaguar XKR against the M3, in which case it's the XKR all the way.

EDIT: Oh, and someone obviously missed the recent JD Power press release in which the Jaguar XF beat out BMW in reliability tests:

is an audi r8 a car you would drive on a daily basis?

CL

the other day i saw a r8, it was a beauty, but i just want to know, are those type of cars a everyday car, or would you just drive it for a night out on the town?

Answer
The R8 is meant to be a daily driver. It was designed to compete directly with the Porsche 911, which was considered the most practical sports cars out there, until Audi made their R8. The Porsche still beats the Audi at seating (4 vs. 2 respectively). Both cars are at the right price point for driving daily. Ferraris and Lamborghinis are too low and expensive to risk going out every day. And cheaper cars such as the Corvette ZR1 are designed to go fast, but sacrifice everything else like comfort, luxury, build quality, and practicality. Most of this is my opinion, but I'll use Clarkson as a confirmation as seen at the link below.

Would I feel a greater performance difference putting a bigger exhaust on my sports car with AEM air intake?

I already have the AEM air intake, but will putting a bigger sports exhaust muffler cause me to notice huge difference in power, torque and feel behind the wheel?
The Car....2000 Toyota Celica GT-S, 6 - Speed Manual.

Answer
You will definitely notice the difference depending on the size exhaust headers and exhaust pipes you run. I would personally go with 1 3/4 on the exhaust header and a 2 1/2 on the exhaust pipes. You will probably gain around 20-40 hp with that application depending on the catalytic converter and muffler you run. Hope this helps.

When buying a sports car and that being your only way of transportation would a 2005 Mazda rx-8 be a good buy?

TheCool

I really want this car, I'm understand it takes special care to take care of a rotary engine? But does it require alot of maintenance? I understand it burns oil and only perferred oils are to be used? But how long would the engine last buying it used? Would it break down alot? or should I start looking into a more reliable sports car?

Answer
Just keep the oil changed every 2500 to 3500 miles Synthetic oil if it is recommended Keep extra oil with you. Rotarys DO NOT BURN OIL!!! OIL IS INJECTED IN THE COMBUSTION CYCLE ON TOP OF THE ROTORS TO KEEP THE APEX SEALS LUBE, IT IS PART OF THE DESIGN OF THE ENGINE. The help keep the engine right you should pre-mix 2 stroke oil in the fuel to have it last a bit more, but not the cheap crap go on RX8club.com and search premix and they let you know a good brand to use. Rotarys dont break down alot unless you abuse them and dont maintain them. If you not willing to keep up with the needs of a Rotary engine then yes look into a different Car... As for parts go the other guy is right there kind of hard to find but when you do they cost a bit more than other cars would look up Mazdatrix and RacingBeat for 2 of the U.S. part sources and there are a few aftermarket companys mainly in Japan that does for the RX8 as well. As also said by the other guy not everyone will work on a Rotary cause they have no Ideal about them so they stay away from them. If your a do it yourselfer than you'll figure it out and be happy that your doin it and if not find a specialty Rotary shop that knows what there doin. Hop on the Forums and READ so you'll know.

What should I know about moving to San Diego?

sports cars san diego image

Arthur B.

I have lived in Chicago for 11 years now and I am ready to make a change in my life. I am trying to decide between San Diego or Miami. I am like 98 percent SD but I wanted to know what are some things that I should know about the city. Like is living expenses high? Neighborhoods? How much should I have saved up? etc etc

Answer
San Diego is one of the nicest cities in the country. It's a major tourist destination and there are tons of things to do. With 70 miles of beautiful beaches, countless parks and gardens, major league sports, dozens of golf courses, world class museums, Tony Award winning theater, great cuisine, best weather in the country, high tech industry, major universities, and the best zoo in the world, it's my choice as THE place to live and play in the USA.

According to the following cost of living comparison calculator, San Diego is 14% more expensive than Chicago. A $50,000 / year salary in San Diego is equivalent to $57,000 in Chicago.
http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/savings/moving-cost-of-living-calculator.aspx

The big cost difference is housing and gas prices. People in So Cal are use to spending 30%-35% of our incomes on housing. If you are renting, expect to pay at least $1500-$2000 / month on a nice apartment.

We have some of the highest gas prices in the country so if you have a gas guzzler car, leave it behind.

As far as where to live, here is a quick summary of some of the areas within the city of San Diego.
La Jolla and Scripps Ranch are upscale and wealthy.
The nice middle class areas of town are Pacific Beach, Tierrasanta, Clairemont, University City, and Mira Mesa.
Pacific Beach is a mixture of apartments with college students and young professionals, and single family homes. If you can afford it, it's one of the best places to live in the city. It also has great nightlife.
http://www.sandiegoreader.com/news/neighborhoods/pacific-beach/
University City is near La Jolla and UCSD and is mostly upscale professionals.
Clairemont is middle class single family homes and has a lot of military families living there.
Mira Mesa has a large Asian population.
Hillcrest/North Park is the center of the gay community.
Mission Valley is young professionals and almost all condos and apartments. The trolley lines runs right down the middle of the valley and it's an ideal place to live if you commute to downtown or San Diego State.
Ocean Beach is a lot of druggies, hippies, and beach bums.
Mission Beach is the seasonal rental party animal types.
Point Loma is a lot of retired military.
The College Area is near San Diego State on the eastern edge of the city. A few blocks from the school is less than desirable.
Linda Vista is lower middle class and ethnically mixed.

In general, the farther south you go (closer to the border), the lower the property values. IMO you want to live north of I-8 and west of I-15. There are also nice bedroom communities along the I-15 corridor, such as Poway, Rancho Penasquitos and Rancho Bernardo.

The North County Coastal area is one of the best places to live in the county. The beach cities of Del Mar, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Lucadia, Carlsbad, etc. are all great and many people do the daily commute on I-5. Also, The Coaster is the commuter rail service along the coast that takes you right downtown.

Do I need chains in the snow on a Jeep Wrangler?

David S

I am going up to Lake Tahoe next week and the weather reports say it will be snowing all week. I live in San Diego so I have obviously never driven my Jeep in the snow. Does anyone know if I need chains or will the 4 wheel drive be enough to get through it?

Answer
you may not need them but you may be required by law to have them.

first, check your manual to see if they can be used on your jeep. my 2006 manual says ok on x's and sports but not on rubicons or shara's due to larger tirs not having enough clearance between the side wall and shocks.

if you have upgraded your wheels, you may have a problem.

if you can fit them, chins are a good insurance policy. you can always buy them alongside the road from the chain monkeys but i bet you would get a better price off the internet. i doubt that sd has too many retailors stocking chains.

do a little research with the internet, there are several sites that have large selections of chains, i couldnot believe all the different types, roller cross x, ladder, etc. a good site will explain the differences to you and help you choose the correct size.

don't forget tensioners also, some chins come with them some are optional.

you will have to fit them before you go. it is a lot easier removing an excess link in your driveway in sd in 80 degree weather rather than on the side of the road in 20 degree weather.

remember top speed in chains is about 30 mph.

i found a company that makes non-metalic chains for cars and trucks. they have very low sidewall profile so that wranglers with oversize tires can use them. i will try and find th site and post it later.

be sure to carry some emergency supplies like extra water and a couple of blankets in case you run ito difficulties. a shovel on't be bad either. if you buy a sno shovel up north, you can always bring it back to amuse your friends.

the trick to driving in snow or ice is to match your speed with the conditions and skill levels. try to anticipate any stops or turns. kep moving at a constant rate. driving is like sking, if you don't have forward motion you have no control.

you don't want to drive in constant four wheel drive unless the road is slick and the wheels can slip everyonce in a while. the part tim four wheel drive on wranglers doesn't allow the axle to rlease tension like a limited slip differential will. over time the axel ill build up a torque and snap, especially the dana 30's on x's and sports.

that' why wrnglers are not the best for on road extreme driving conditions.

ps make sure your rad is covered for lower temps, antifreeze and that your indshield washer fluid is rated for the temps you expect.

check with chp on conditions before you leave. thier web site should have driving conditions on it and chain advisories
