Expensive maintenance cost of European luxury cars? Is it the parts or labor that costs so much?

luxury cars on Nye_Car: The Best Luxury Cars
luxury cars image

Jesse

I heard that it costs about 3 times more to fix European luxury cars than comparable American or Japanese cars. Is it the parts or labor that cost so much to fix?

Answer
the fact that the luxury cars are so expensive and the parts it comes with have to be imported and they are expensive as well

Which luxury car is the most expensive to maintain?

Q. Out of all the luxury cars, which car is the most expensive to maintain and repair?
I was just wondering because I currently own a '98 Mercedes C230, and I'm trying to figure out if I should keep it or buy something else. BUT I need to know if it would be the best option because I might be putting more money into a newer car (any) , but I do want another luxury-type car. Any suggestions?

Answer
Other than custom built exotics it has to be a Rolls Royce.

$10,000 for a brake job ... and that was just the front brakes!

luxury cars 30000 image

Mr. Califo

would a new cadillac CTS be another option to buying a used 2003 BMW m3, Lexus IS 350, or Infiniti G37. What are some other sporty luxury cars ( new or used) with paddle shifters and between $30000--- $40000.

Answer
No.

The 2008 CTS doesn't have paddle shifters. The new 6 speed automatic transmission has the same Driver Shift Control as in prior years. Move the console shifter to the right on move it forward and backward to change gears. Good luck.

What car should i get?

Jesse

I'm looking for a sporty semi-luxury sedan under $30000. I've looked at the Infiniti g37 but I think there might be other options out there. I'm looking for a car that feels good to drive around just for fun, but also sporty and semi luxorious. Please try to leave as many suggestions as you can.

Answer
Does it need to be a sedan? I found loads of coupes but very few sedans.
I foundâ¦â¦â¦

The Nissan Altima Coupé,from $25,230
Nissan Altima from $21,760
Dodge Dart from $15,590. Cheap,I know but ultra sporty and hot looking,I love it,

What is a good looking sports car with good mileage?

sports cars convertible image

Nazar Stel

I am 16 and I am looking to find a car that is fuel efficient, looks nice (sports car sudan), and is affordable. I have looked at a Mazda rx8 but it seems with the rotory engine that would give me more problems than I would like. I have also looked at the ford mustang as well as other types of sports cars but I need better gas mileage.

P.S. Im not a big fan hatchbacks or convertibles. If i had to choose between the two I would choose the convertible though.

Answer
I don't have a lot of knowledge about other cars other than the ones I have owned.

I had a 2006 Mustang GT. It had the tested and true 4.6L V8.

I put over 120k miles on that car with no issues. Reliable and fun. It got 23-24 on the hwy, and about 17 in the city. The new 5.0 mustang 2011-2012 gets even better gas mileage and more power!

I would imagine that the new Camaro is just as solid with its dependable motor. But I am pretty sure its gas mileage is not as good.

How much is the average Maserati? What luxury sports car is suitable for a 16 year-old?

Amber

I was wondering how much an average Maserati costs. Especially the Grandturismo. I will soon get a brand-new car. My budget is $100,000. I was wondering what luxury sports car will be suitable for a 16 year-old. Please list a few brands and names of the convertibles. Thanks!

Answer
I don't know if the Audi A8 comes in convertible, that is a good choice.

Also Porsche 911 is great because you can get All Wheel Drive.

Why do economy cars get better gas mileage then luxury cars?

luxury cars with best mpg on Best Used Luxury Cars Under $20,000
luxury cars with best mpg image

Code Brown

I am doing a project for my business stat class. My group is doing research on gas mileage of cars and found out that on average economy cars get better gas mileage than luxury cars. and we were wondering why this would be. I have been doing online research and haven't been able to find out why this is; I am hoping some one here could help me out.

Answer
Economy cars are usually much lighter and have smaller engines than luxury cars.

Here is a perfect example

A 2009 Lexus LS430 has a 4.6 liter V8 engine and weighs 4244lbs. It gets 16mpg city/24mpg highway.

A 2009 Toyota Avalon (which the Lexus LS430 is based off of) has a 3.5 liter V6 and weighs 3490lbs. It gets 19mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Luxury cars are expected to be much smoother and quieter than some cheaper cars. To do that, the additional sound deadning materials and techniques require the car be heavier. Luxury cars are also expected to be a little faster than economy cars therefore a larger more powerful motor is needed.

Which non-entry level luxury car provides the best gas mileage?

Steve

I'm looking for a new used luxury car. I'm current getting 33 average MPG with mostly highway driving. I'm looking to get the same or better MPG with a newer car. I require a luxury car, and not an entry-level model. Two or four doors is OK. What would you recommend to me?

Answer
BMW 335D 23city 36 highway.

What's the best Japanese sports car, in your opinion?

Greg

I have been a German sports car fan for some time, mostly Porsche and Audi, but am looking at some Japanese cars. What's the best? I'm mainly looking at Mitsubishi, Acura, Subaru, Nissan, and Toyota. Thanks

Answer
The King would be Skyline (depending on mods & availability)
Followed by Supra/Rx7 Twin Turbo, NSX
Then Mitsub 3000gt Twin Turbo, Subaru Wrx, Lancer Evos etc

For currently available American imported Japanese cars, Nissan GT-R,
Plans to produce a NSX with a V-10 scrapped by Honda last December, Toyota talked about Supra 2010 Hybrid but performance would not be of GT-R status. The GT-R seems to be honored as the top sports car, others make good cars but Top Sports Cars are not profitable for the companies.

What is a good Japanese project car?

RyanB

I really want to build a new project car, and I'm not too fond of old american cars so I'm trying to find a decent 90's japanese sports car for a project car. My budget is around $5000-$6000 for buying the actual car. I was thinking either a '94 Nissan 240SX or an Integra. I'm planning to mod it all the way, body, engine, interior, etc. What do you guys think?

Answer
No Seriously look into a 1990 or higher Nissan 300zx
my dad has 2 of them and they are amazing, he's completely redone one of them, and one of them was already in great condition, he just had to redo the paint on the 1990.

*They also have a bunch of mod kits and stuff for them. You can get one going from 300hp to 656hp in no time.

do you recommend a BMW 335i xdrive over an infiniti G37 AWD?

luxury cars gallery on Punta Cana Luxury Hotels - Punta Cana Luxury Resort

Brian Turn

Why should I buy one over the other? What are the positives and negatives over each car?

Answer
Great question. I am a previous "owner" of a 2007 BMW 328I sedan, I now currently have a 2009 Infiniti G37 sedan. First off Infiniti is a great great great Luxury automobile. Admittingly I am a tad bit superficial and picky when it comes to purchasing/leasing a car. My previous Lease was a 2007 BMW 328i sedan, I can honestly tell you that when it comes to performance and luxury Infiniti hands down takes the title. I am very content with my 09 G37 sedan, it has been nothing but a dream so far. I currently have the Journey package on my G37, I decided not to opt for the Navi package seeing that I already had a GPS (Tom Tom) from the previous BMW I had. Anyway with or without the Navi package I still got the LCD screen on my G37, BMW never gave me that. It looks way more modern and sophisticated when compared to BMW's interior designs. Dont get me wrong I loved BMW but I thought the car lacked a little bit in the performance and luxury department for the money I was paying for monthly. Now Im paying about just $50 more then my previous lease and its well worth the little extra money for everything im getting standard in the G37. By the way the G37 sedan just got facelift and a few interior changes for 2010 and it looks amazing! The 2010 BMW 335Xi will cost you $42,600 (standard) and it will only produce 300 HP while the 2010 Infiniti G37X AWD sedan will produce 328 HP and it will cost you $37,000 (standard) and fully loaded will cost you $47,000-$50,000 while the BMW 335xi will cost you $51,000-$55,000 when fully loaded. Not to mention that when you opt for a Journey package on a 2010 Infiniti G37 sedan you will now get a Rear view camera and Rear sonar detection system standard on the G37 without opting for a Nav system. When i leased my 2009 G37 inorder to get the rear view camera you had to opt for the Navi package. My 2009 G37 Journey package included Handsfree Bluetooth, heated front seats, Diming rear view mirror, automatic tilt and teliscopic steering wheel and memory seats while in the 2010 G37 journey package now includes extras such as a rearview camera and rear sonar system. Although my previous BMW had xenon headlights I had to opt inorder to get them while all infiniti's come standard with Dual xenon headlight regardless of the package you choose. As you can tell i did my research before leasing the Infiniti, I couldnt be happier.

EDIT: Dont pay attention to the last guy he clearly doesnt no anything about Infiniti or BMW, he's just a BMW fanatic i highly doubt he is a personal owner of either. Infiniti will give you a loaner car with out charge, usually all luxury manufacturers do this such as Lexus, Infiniti, BMW and Mercedes. If you read into Infiniti they call it the "Infiniti Total Ownership Experience"

Whats the best european-like small car to buy in the US?

Lion Eyes

Best bang for my buck? Something thats small, economical and durable.
I don't mind if its a stick shift or not.
I had a look at the mini cooper but its too expensive.
Diesel would be nice.

Answer
The Mini Cooper starts at about $20k. Yes, the dealers usually option them up and it's hard to find anything but a Cooper S without a special order.

If that is too expensive, then Ford makes the Fiesta and "New" Focus, and Chevrolet makes the Cruze, all cars that have done well in Europe. All start under $20k for the sedan. The base-model Jetta starts at $17k and the Golf at $18k - the Golf is highly preferable over the Jetta IMHO. And there's always the Fiat 500 - if you can find a FIAT "Gallery".

Diesels are more expensive here than they are in Europe, because our emissions standards are different here. All the Euro manufacturers make efficient diesels for their small cars and COULD sell them here - but people do not think of "economy" when they think of Mercedes or BMW. They think of luxury sports cars and sedans. What Europeans think of as city cars, we think of as "cute cars" designed for teenage girls. We don't buy a car based on what we need in America - we buy a car based on how powerful it is and what we *might* need to do with it, someday. Those tastes will take a while to change - in the meantime, you won't be seeing a Fiat Panda or a Mercedes A-class.

Should I trade in my 2002 c240 with 75000 miles for a 2001 BMW 325Ci Coupe with 92000 miles (sport premium package) ? Or should I sell my car then buy the BMW?
I know my car is worth at least 14-15K$ and it has warranty. The BMW is listed for 12500$ and it says (brand new tires and free warranty to buyer).
And if I do trade in, would the dealer pay me the difference?

Answer
im not sure the dealer will pay you the differnce, you might be better off looking for a bmw thats a little more expensive with less miles and just trading in ur mercedes and paying the little difference so u wont have to deal with the selling process.

How many miles would be consider a lot for a sport motorycle?

JAY N

im thinking about getting a used bike and i dont know how many miles would be consider high for a bike? and what is a bike that has a fast 0-60 time that is affordable?

Answer
I asked the same question here on yahoo answers a while back. The correct answer is this.

The higher the cc's of the bike the higher the longer the engines can go.

Some guys will say "Yah but what if a 250cc engine was maintained but a 600cc engine was abused and oil never changed etc.." and if you compare it like that obviously the better taken care of motor lasts longer.

But let's say this. With everything be equal if the bikes were all maintained the same I gaurantee you that the engines that last longest are in this order.

250cc lasts on average 25000 miles
500cc lasts on average 50000 miles
600cc lasts on average 60000 miles
750cc lasts on average 75000 miles
1000cc lasts longest about 100,000 miles

The smaller the cc the higher they rev.

So try to find a bike with the highest cc's
In other words I would be willing to bet anything that a Ninja 250 will not last as long as a Ninja zx10 because the zx has 1000 cc but the 250 has 250 cc's

Now on some bikes, like the Kawasaki Ninja 250, you can find engines cheap on ebay. For example a ninja 250 engine can be bought right now on ebay under $500.00 so some bikes you don't have to even really worry about engines as they are so inexpensive you can just buy another engine rather than paying to have it rebuilt.

Go to ebay.com and look for motorcycle engines you'll find them cheap.

I know you didn't ask this but I would be amiss to not mention to you the most important thing (In my opinion this is most important) as a rider.

IMPORTANT: Get a bike that is tailored to your needs!

For example. Should you get a lighter bike or a heavier bike?
Both answers are correct for the bikes particular circumstance.

If you are going to be riding on the street get a light bike like 300+ lbs. You want a light bike for street riding and curves..

However if you are going to be going interstates/freeways where there is no stop and go but straight, and long drives (More than 20 miles) get a heavier bike like 500lbs or 400+ lbs.

Why? A light bike sucks on the freeways as you get blown all over and its not fun nor enjoyable. If you are going short distances on a freeway its not bad but if more than a few minutes that crud gets tiring and it feels unsafe. So for highways do not ever get under a 600cc bike and make sure its not a light bike or you will blow all over and you will regret your decision the first minute on the freeway.

I'll give you an example. I used to own a ninja 250 and it is awesome for streets. You can drive far distances and never be tired and its awesome on gas and will go 70 or 80+ or more but on the freeways it blew all over and was no fun.

I got a zx10 instead and the bike is heavier like 500lbs but it stays planted on the freeways. Since I mostly go freeways to work and back I get great mpg so gas is not a problem it is saving me gas. However if I were going to ride on the streets a lot I would have stayed with the Ninja 250 or Ninja 500.

Re: 0-60 time, even the Ninja 250 which is considered a new riders bike, has a better 0-60 time than 95% of the cars out there.

All in all though you gotta trust me on this, your main concern after riding will be the wind and the weight of the bike.

So here are some rules of thumb to follow
Heavy bike is safer on freeways
For freeways don't dare go under 600cc

For streets get a lighter bike. Now, sometimes folks will say "What if I go both freeways and streets?" I would say this..If you are going on the freeways about oh 5% of the time and not often and not long distances, then a light bike is ok. But if you are going on the freeway every now and then and more than 5% of the time and more than 10 miles or so...then do not get a light bike. Get at least 400lbs or more.

I have looked and looked and researched bikes and have also rode a lot of them and for the money here is the TOP LIST OF BIKES.

RICH'S TOP 5 LIST OF BIKES FOR THE MONEY!

#1 Best starter bike for the person on a budget of $1000-$2000
The winner is The Ninja 250 by Kawasaki. You can get a good quality bike used on ebay or craigslist.com Not recommended on freeways but is legal on freeways and I have ridden on freeways many times on one. Very light bike and is the only 250 sport bike available in the United states..most people don't know that.

#2 THE HEAVY BIKE FOR THE PERSON ON A BUDGET
For freeways you can get a Suzuki Katana 600 cc bike or 750 cc. I have seen these for sale all day long for $2000 or a tad under or over $2000 The bike is not for the beginner as its a very heavy bike but that is good if you are riding freeways! However if you tip it over only God almighty and all your strength will be able to lift it up again. I don't recommend this bike for skinny people that are new to riding. However anybody that has experience riding will be fine with common sense. Excellent on freeways.

#3 BEST NEW BIKE FOR PERSON ON A BUDGET
If you want your mouth to water like a thirsty man in the dessert, go to Kawasaki.com and click sport bike and then 2008 NINJA 250 You'll see a video of a $3000+ bike NEW!
And this thing is....Awesome. However I'd like to jump in here with a personal opinion...

If you were to buy the Ninja 250, 2008 year, by the time you left the dealer you would have paid easily $4000.00 for a new one. So I would wait a year until you can get them used...and in my opinion if I had $4000 I would get the bike in the next paragraph.

#4 BEST USED BIKE FOR PERSON WITH $4000 give or take..
If you have a bit under $4000 maybe a little less or more..depending on the deal you get,..take a look at the Suzuki sv or suzuki sv650. You can get the bike naked, that is without fairings, but you don't want that. For freeways you want it FULL FAIRING and if you go to ebay.com or craigslist.com you'll see these bikes...Very sexy, very hot..and they are awesome to ride.

#5 GODS FAVORITE BIKE
Legend has it that when Yahmaha made the R1 and it just came out of the factory...they rolled it out into the test track. As the rider approached it the heavens opened up and voice thundered down from heaven and it said "Rider! Take off your boots, you are walking near hallowed ground" The R1 is a bike but its also a peace of art that the rider can become one with. If money is no object...the R1 is one Righteous 1 to get.

Behold the r1 below:
If someone has never ridden before even the slowest bike will feel great to them as most bikes are faster than most cars.

Can't do wrong with the sort of thing I have at the moment. 1994 CD5 Honda Accord. Insanely reliable, SOHC VTEC, pretty big bootspace, seats 5, full power options and does about 38mpg.

Although for 15000 you can get a much newer Accord, and one with a V6 more than likely for more power. You could also go for an Acura TSX, which is a luxury-branded Accord with some extra features like optional sat-nav, full leather interior, 8-speaker stereo and a K24 i-VTEC motor with 200hp.

I am preparing a trip for a group of 7-8 people next november, arriving in NYC and spending a c?

DAVID Limo

Hi group!

I am preparing a trip for a group of 7-8 people next november, arriving
in NYC and spending a couple of days out in the Ithaca area.

I want to rent a van that can afford the 7-8 passengers with all their
luggage and still be confortable. So the regular 7-8 seats minivan won't do.

I have googled a lot and am desperate at finding a company that would
rent such vans (it seems that the one who do it - but not in NYC -
mostly rent Ford Econoline 12 passengers vans). The closest I found so
far is called "allmostnewrentals.com" and they are based in Union (NJ).

So here are my questions?
- Does anyone know of a rental company that is based in NYC and that
would have that type of passengers van ?
- If yes, any experience as to their service level ?
- If no, how far is Union from NYC (we stay in a hotel in Mayfair), and
how can I easily reach Union from there (taxi? train?) - at what cost if
we all need to go there (and come back when we give back the van

Answer
lake tahoe. for sure.

squaw valley is a great place for tourists. if you ride the cable car up to the top of the mountain there is a museum all about the 1960 olympics. There is also shopping in the olympic village and many other adventures, like the ropes course, mountain biking and horse riding. Also located in squaw valley is there 5 star hotel resort at squaw creek. At the resort there is swimming, ice skating, massages, and fine dining. Go see the lake! Kings beach and east shore beaches are by far the best beaches around. In kings beach you can get in to tahoes culture by stopping by one of the many mexican resturaunts. Such as Las Panchitas located on N. Lake Blvd. And La Mexicana on brooke avenue. It is a small resuraunt with seating at the counter or outdoors with a traditional mexican grocery store attached. It by far has the best burritos in town. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Caliente. The prices are expensive, the food is bad and i know many people who have gotten food poisening. Brooke avenue grill is also a great place. It is a casual place with great food. It is accross the street from bank of america. On N. lake Blvd. Over a little further on the west shore there is a great tahoe resturaunt located on the lake called sunnyside, it is alson on N. Lake blvd. River Grill in tahoe city also has great food. River rafting is also fun. Mountain Air sports seems to have the best service. You get on in the heart of tahoe city and end up close to squaw valley.

do i need snow tire chains driving down i-80 from sacramento to reno this weekend?

Nessa (:

i was wondering because i was looking through the details and i couldn't find much.
i was wondering should i buy some in case or just not get it because i'm only staying in less than a day and chains are pricey.

Answer
unless your car is 4 wheel drive, I would always carry chains with me anytime of year going to Lake Tahoe. There is a minor storm system moving through late into the night saturday. so you never know.

you could try renting some at a local ski or sport place like rei. not sure if they still do that. try also local auto parts and/or tire stores.

i would never drive to tahoe in winter with out chains unless in a four wheel drive vehicle.

Please give me some ideas!!
I DO KNOW HOW MUCH CARS COST!!! IT WOULD BE NO PROBLEM!! MY MOM JUST LIKE LITTLE CARS AND IT ATTACHED TO THEM!!! LOL!!
Oh ya, also my sisters always take their friends so they would like a bigger car as well.

Answer
Well if your mom doesnt want to look like a soccer mom in a Mini-van then you should possibly consider an SUV with third row seating cause a normal SUV wont do you any good if it seats the same as a sedan. Im assuming your in search of a Certified pre-owned vehicle cause it doesnt sound like your in the market for a new one. These are my suggestion, look at the links for examples, these SUVs all price around or under 16K which is the average cost of a used family Sport utility vehicle.

What car should I buy next?

MTA

I'm looking to buy a new car this year but I was to be sure I buy the best car. I've looked at a 2005 RX8 but the maintenance track of them isn't the best plus they basically eat my gas. I'd buy the 350Z if it had a backseat, but it doesn't and since I'm a student and the only one of my friends with a car, I need that back seat. I looked at some 2007 BMWs and Audis but I'll be financing for 4 or 5 years so when I finish they'll be 10 years old and have lost their luster by then. Right now I'm really considering a 2011 Scion tC. I want something that has that agressive sporty edge to it but it doesn't have to be like lightening fast or anything. I like some power under my foot but I'm not doing any racing and fuel efficiency is important to an extent so I don't want anything that eats gas just to get more power. As long as the car seats 4 or 5 people, has a nice body style, is pretty new, and has (or can have with some modification) decent enough power, then I'm happy. The 2011 Scion tC really seems the best bet right now but I just want to know if anyone can think of something that I've missed. I have a budget of about 20K. Oh and I'm upgrading from a 2007 Cobalt.

Answer
With $20,000 you can easily have a pre-owned 2008 BMW 328i, Lexus IS250, Infiniti G35 or even a Mercedes C300. Its all about looking in the right places. If you are looking for reliability both Lexus & Infiniti are great cars. If you are looking for performance the BMW 3 series & Infiniti G are your best bet. Both BMW 3 series & Infiniti G are the best performing entry level luxury sedans in their class however there is no doubt that the BMW will be more demanding to maintain over the Lexus & Infiniti, so in retrospect the BMW is not the most economical sedan of the bunch. German competitors are priced similar to their Japanese competitors but maintenance wise the Germans acquire hefty repair cost while the Japanese do not, reliability is also a contributing factor. Here are some examples so you get an idea of what is out there. However if you are looking for economy and affordability then I would suggest a newer/used Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis coupe, Chevy Camaro.
