Answer
lake tahoe. for sure.

squaw valley is a great place for tourists. if you ride the cable car up to the top of the mountain there is a museum all about the 1960 olympics. There is also shopping in the olympic village and many other adventures, like the ropes course, mountain biking and horse riding. Also located in squaw valley is there 5 star hotel resort at squaw creek. At the resort there is swimming, ice skating, massages, and fine dining. Go see the lake! Kings beach and east shore beaches are by far the best beaches around. In kings beach you can get in to tahoes culture by stopping by one of the many mexican resturaunts. Such as Las Panchitas located on N. Lake Blvd. And La Mexicana on brooke avenue. It is a small resuraunt with seating at the counter or outdoors with a traditional mexican grocery store attached. It by far has the best burritos in town. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Caliente. The prices are expensive, the food is bad and i know many people who have gotten food poisening. Brooke avenue grill is also a great place. It is a casual place with great food. It is accross the street from bank of america. On N. lake Blvd. Over a little further on the west shore there is a great tahoe resturaunt located on the lake called sunnyside, it is alson on N. Lake blvd. River Grill in tahoe city also has great food. River rafting is also fun. Mountain Air sports seems to have the best service. You get on in the heart of tahoe city and end up close to squaw valley.

do i need snow tire chains driving down i-80 from sacramento to reno this weekend?

Nessa (:

i was wondering because i was looking through the details and i couldn't find much.
i was wondering should i buy some in case or just not get it because i'm only staying in less than a day and chains are pricey.

Answer
unless your car is 4 wheel drive, I would always carry chains with me anytime of year going to Lake Tahoe. There is a minor storm system moving through late into the night saturday. so you never know.

you could try renting some at a local ski or sport place like rei. not sure if they still do that. try also local auto parts and/or tire stores.

i would never drive to tahoe in winter with out chains unless in a four wheel drive vehicle.
