Importing Skylines, Rx-7, and Supra's from Japan?

Hey I want to start a business importing these cars from Japan and getting them legalized. I was wondering if anyone has experience with any of these and could give there input. I do have a few questions

1.) Is this profitable.
2.) Which would be easier R-33 or R-34 . I know this is an easy question for someone who hasn't done this before to answer but I mean which one would have a larger profit margin.
3.)Which of the 3 is more profitable.
4.) Do you know of any websites that give a step by step or very detailed explaination on the processes involved so I can start looking more in depth to this and come up with some numbers
5.) Is there any common problems you have had if you have done this.
6.) What sort of time is involved doing this.

Like I said its a business idea I am having and would like to import fix up a little bit on minor engine work and cosmetics. All around just want your input on the feasability of this. IF you dont really know about tthese cars specifically any other similar ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot

Answer
1. it's profitable if you have the capital to start it up with. remember you need to buy the cars CBU (completely-built-up) straight from Japan, ship them all the way to the US (which means import taxes), store them here, shape them up to decent road worthiness, and maybe even convert them to left-hand drive. and then you add your profit margin.

2. doesn't really matter between R33 or R34, heck, you can even go with the R32. thing is there aren't that many of any of these models. You'll have to go with what you can find. it'll be best if you can find "partner" junkyards in Japan who are willing to "supply" you with sports cars.

3. again, same dilemma with the different skyline generations. they're all RHD if they're from Japan.

4. nope, i just know a few people who do that here in the Philippines, but of course in smaller quantities because there aren't many people here who can afford those kinds of toys.

5. well, RHD-to-LHD conversion is always a problem when you're starting out, even when you have a conversion kit. it's only through experience that you learn. just make sure you don't do any shortcuts or it's going to be very dangerous for the owner in the end. i've seen one conversion where the steering column collapsed onto the driver's lap. good thing he wasn't moving when it happened.

6. from finding your junkyard/scrap sports car to getting it to your sales display, months. my estimate is 4-5. ROI? maybe 4-5 years, given the state of the US economy right now. people there are giving up their daily drivers, let alone toy cars.

Could anybody tell me what the name of this car is?

Sean

Buying New Car Help!?

Jacob

I recently just bought me and my wife a new car. I now own a BMW 5 series and my Wife has a Mercedes S600. I love these cars and I'm glad you guys helped me to get them! (Thank you!) It's my daughters 16th birthday and I would like to get her a car to go to school in. Sadly, though, I cannot ask her because that would give the surprise away. Here's a list of ideas I think she will like but if you got any suggestions fire away! (Thanks!!)
-Sporty (But safe!)
-Preferably a convertible (Doesnt have to be)
-Money is not an issue (Neither is maintenance costs)
-Safe! Has to be safe!
-Bluetooth and Onboard cellphone
-Nothing to fast. (All i need is my daughter in a 250mph police chase)
-Comfortable but yet flashy
-Nice stereo (But if that's not an option i can get one installed)
-Safe!
-Did I mention Safe?
-Not an SUV, Van, Or truck. I'm thinking more of a sedan or two seater.
-Oh yea! Safe.

Thanks guys! I need an answer quick because I have a job in New Jersey to travel to and I would like to get it for her soon! And if you have any ideas of what she might like fire them away! Thank you so much!!!

Answer
In my mind the perfect car would be along the lines of a 2010 and up Lexus IS350 (they got remodeled for 2013) or 2008 and up IS-F if you prefer v8's. They are both plenty fast but not stupid fast, they look great especially when you add your own touch to them, they never break down, are safe, and have a sporty side to them. (especially the IS_F) They are Also very well equipped standard with plenty of luxury feature that most cars in its class don't Come with even optioned. And if you find one with MARK LEVINSON audio (highly recommended) you'll have a great stock audio system in it for listening to tunes on road trips. Also in my experience at my dealership I always receive great customer service!

If that doesn't seem to get your interest however, I also recommend you look into a Infiniti G37 (more sporty, not as much luxury but still luxurious) or if your fond of the BMW a 335i is a great car as well (most sporty and great looks, but least luxury).

GOOD LUCK!!!

High End Luxury Car Financing?

duoak

My husband and I are planning to purchase a Ferrari next year. Can anyone explain how high end luxury car financing works in the New York/New Jersey area? My husband is from England and I am completely useless when it comes to cars. We have no idea where to start with regard to financing. Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Believe it or not, most luxury vehicles are paid in cash. However, if you finance you have two choices:

1) A conventional auto loan through the dealer's "captive" finance company - or you can arrange your own loan through a bank or credit union.

2) A conventional consumer auto lease through the dealer's "captive" finance company. You could also arrange your own lease through a lease broker such as LeaseCompare.com or PrimeLease.com which *might* get you a better deal. Their lenders are major banks such as Chase and US Bank.

I am buying a new car, Under 60k Canadian. Suggestions?

Ryan _

I'm looking at new vehicles and am soliciting advice and/or opinions. My absolute hard limit is 60 000$ Canadian and I would prefer to be below this. I would mention monthly payments, but that would be a bit misleading considering we would end up at different payments based upon different credit ratings etc...

Though it seems cliché to say I want a " fast " car... I am looking at performance vehicles in what might be termed the " sport " class. I present my two current leaders as far as picks go, but I should emphasize that I am interested in other options as well, especially if they have the same features that appeal to me in the listed cars. Also, I am currently looking at new vehicles. I am aware that they depreciate extremely fast, however they also come with brand new warranties and I want the peace of mind that comes from purchasing something I know just rolled out of the factory.

Current Picks :

BMW 135i Coupé.
* Sport Package, Premium Sound Package, Comfort Package, Premium Package. Couple other things. Total Price on Canadian Site: 55 600$

Basic Stats: 6 Speed Steptronic, 3.0 L Straight 6, 300 Hp, 300 lb-ft of Torque. RWD.

Why I like it: Has awesome looks, I like the straight 6 since it is a naturally balanced engine. BMW definitely has name recognition, both as a status thing but also for myself. I have driven an older 325i extensively and I really enjoy it. It is quick as hell from all reports that I've read, but a quick brush along the specs sheets show that they [BMW] pay a ton of attention to the little things in an automobile. It definitely fits has the " luxury " bit covered. Did I mention it looks killer?

----------------

Chevrolet Camaro, 2SS,
* Rally Sport Package, Some Stuff. Total Price on Canadian Site: 46 115$

Basic Stats: 6 Speed Manual or 6 Speed Steptronic, 6.2L V8, 426 Hp, 420 lb-ft of Torque. RWD

Why I like it: Absolutely great styling. To be honest, the movies (the car is used in Transformers) have given me an appreciation for the vehicle since I get to see it moving around. It is for sure a big noisy power car... I can appreciate that. The interior looks amazing. I suppose what I really like best is the styling.

-----------------

Thank for any suggestions you guys might have, I would appreciate any reasoning behind your picks as well. On a more personal note, this is my inaugural yahoo answers question.

Answer
In my opinion the BMW is a much better option. They are excellent cars and come with free maintenance. I have had nothing but problems with everything from General Motors and I am sure that I am not the only one. That is why they are in bankruptcy. Another one you might consider is the Lexus IS F.

what is the fastest entry level luxury car? 60k and under?

John

Answer
Luxury cars are built for comfort, not for speed.

Sports cars are built for speed.

I don't care about speed at all so I'm not going to look up top speeds. It's an irrelevant spec in my opinion. But if you're looking for a very good high end sport luxury sedan that is as fast as you'll ever need to go look no further than the BMW 3 series (sorry, you can't afford an M), Audi S4, Lexus IS or the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Don't overlook the Cadillac CTS.

Are Land Rover Luxury Cars?

Dunn

and i know people say there not reliable but to the truth my uncle had one for 10 years and nothing happen to it he maintaned it well so yea i dont know why people say those things

Answer
Yes, Land Rover is considered a Luxury SUV. Reliability is not the best but the latest models have improved. So, if you're looking to buy one, get 2008 or newer that has warranty. However, my personal opinion is that you can get a much better vehicle in a BMW X5 or Lexus RX350.

Answer
For a girl, both cars are fine. But I'm sure you can find nicer cars in your price range. By my observation you live in Georgia so Ive found some luxury cars that you might be paying the same for as the Mustang or the Solara. I'm assuming your price range is $16,000- 17,000 by the price tag of the cars you have shown us so here's a few, hope this helps or at least gives you new ideas.

Car rental question.?

Noelle

I am going to Panama City beach on Friday morning and will be retuning on Sunday I am coming from Atlanta Georgia . I would like to rent a car so I got on Hotwire and found a car for like $85 for everything plus the insurance however I don't have a credit card so I saw the debit card option and was going to pay wih that. So my question is how exactly does the debit card option work. Thank you

Answer
Here are a few things you should expect at most rental agencies when using a debit card. The biggest one perhaps is the need of a deposit.

Logo requirements. While many rental car companies accept debit cards, many also require that the cards have a Visa or MasterCard logo.

Expect a credit check. Some companies will perform a debit card check and credit inquiry to ensure that you have the proper funds. (Keep in mind, credit inquiries show up on your credit report, and too many inquiries can actually lower your credit score.)

Be patient. The process of paying with a debit card will likely be a longer one. It takes time to check your credit and insurance, verify your ID, etc.

Prepare to pay a deposit. Often times, rental car companies place a hold on the account linked to your card. Itâs basically a deposit that theyâll hold until you return the vehicle. These deposits can be $200 or more.

Limited choice. No credit card often means you lose the option of renting luxury cars, SUVs or other specialty vehicles.

I want a new suv or hatchback or wagon for under 20 G that i can rely on mostly japanese car. All help needed!

Answer
I would definately say the Mazda 3 Sport Wagon, or the Honda Fit.

The Mazda 3 is constantly winning car magazine comparisons against cars like the Honda Civic Coupe, VW Rabbit (Golf), and is the car that I will be buying. It's cool-looking, fun to drive, and can be equiped with all kinds of safety equipment. The back seats fold flat to give you almost as much room as most SUV's, and because it's much lighter, you don't need as much power to be just as fast, and much better in the corners.

The Honda Fit isn't as cool looking, but it's definately more practical. It's too-new a car to tell if it's going to be as reliable as other Hondas, yet. It is a very nimble car in the city, even able to out-pace the Corvette Z06 in one magazine's slolam course. I don't remember which magazine it was, but it beat it. Not as poised on the highway, as it's lower power makes it have to try harder to keep up at high speeds, and is more prone to being affected by wind. It has better gas milage, though. Plus, it's back seats not only fold flat into the floot, but the seat itself also folds up, giving you a very tall area to hold things, like a bike, standing up, inside your car, with the doors closed. Few cars can do that.

Don't be fooled into thinking that SUV's can haul a lot of cargo. Because most are built on truck platforms, most of the space is taken up by chassis. Most minivans actually have more space inside than most SUV's, since they don't have huge heavy-duty parts that take up a lot of the room.

I work retail, and load things into people's cars every day. It's amazing how little space many SUV's have.

Plus, you're 16...you can spend 50% less on gas, and your insurance will be MUCH lower with both of these vehicles.

Since you're a relatively new driver, having a smaller vehicle will be MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to park, and drive in the city, and won't doo as much damage if you hit someone else. Neither of the two vehicles I mentioned are cramped. My 6'3" friend drives a Honda Fit, and loves it.

The Nissan Versa is alright too...it's about right in the middle of all of the measurements, but to me, it's the ugliest of the three cars, just because it's kinda boring.

edit: Why is everyone bagging on the new driver? "You're going to crash it anyways..." and "When you have your first accident..." I've been driving for 13 years, and I've only been in 1 accident that wasn't my fault...and that was 2 years ago. Jeez...give the kid a break.

i need help describing luxury cars...?

.:.:AODO4E

i need to describe a luxury car but i just cant really think of much.. please help with some detailed descriptions
thanks alot!!!

Answer
Luxury cars are usually very expensive automobiles. They come with all the latest bells and whistles.. They can be sport cars or larger family cars. Imported autos, or American made. These luxury autos are made for speed if a sport car, and comfort if a large car. People have different tastes and some prefer to have one of each if they can afford it.. Most people looking for a luxury car, look for appearance, design, easy handling, easy access in and out of the car, and comfortable seats. Some will want a vehicle that will accomodate several people comfortably and one that will be smooth riding on long trips. Gas millage isn't usally the best on a luxury car, so this is a minus. But with all the other pluses, most people interested, will overlook that.

Are repairs on Lexus or other luxury cars more expensive then American made cars?

Lenny

My mother is trying to decide which SUV to buy. She is wondering if repairs and parts (wipers, brakes, etc.) on cars such as Lexus, Acura, Volvo, and Audi are more expensive then repairs and parts on American made cars such as the Buick Enclave.

Answer
It's not so much American vs. Foreign.....it's luxury vs. non-luxury.

If you're asking if cars like Cadillacs, Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc., are more expensive to repair than Ford, Chevy, Hyundai and Kia.....the answer is yes.

A Buick Enclave is somewhere in between.

Basically, just look at the pricetag of the car and expect parts and repairs to be proportionally expensive. The more expensive the car, the more expensive the parts and repair, regardless of what country it's made in.

Good luck!

Which is the world's fastest car?

Antariksh

Is it bugatti veyron or SSC ultimate aero or any other car?

Answer
The fastest car in the world is the Thrust SSC, which broke the sound barrier and set the land speed record at 763 mph.

I see some already know the fastest fastest street-legal production car in the world to be the SSC Ultimate Aero.
It has 1183 hp, 1094 lb-ft. torque, goes from 0-60 in 2.78 seconds,
and has an estimated top speed of 270+ mph, although only about 257.41 mph was achieved on the 2½-mile-long road.
SSC plans to make an attempt for the Ultimate Aero to achieve its true top speed sometime in the future on a longer road.
In my opinion, the Ultimate Aero looks cooler than the Veyron. Others disagree. However, the price of the Aero's approximate $650,000 price tag compared to the Veyron's $1.3 million+ shows a large difference. This comes partly because the Veyron was built more as a luxury car that's really fast, while the Ultimate Aero was designed as more of a sports car/supercar. The Veyron has some more sophisticated machinery, such as its airbrake/wing and other interior things, but interestingly enough, it lacks a touchscreen infotainment system, while the Ultimate Aero has one. If the Veyron didn't have around 1000 hp and have all-wheel drive, it wouldn't be anywhere near as fast as it is, because it weighs a lot.

Koenigsegg and Bugatti have to fight for the "second fastest" title, with cars such as Koenigsegg's CCXR and CCXR Edition and Bugatti's famed Veyron.

Recently, someone said that Bugatti will end production of the Veyron with a GT model with more horsepower and a top speed of 260, making it the fastest car in the world again.
However, even if that is correct, I doubt it would beat the Ultimate Aero, since the full potential of the car has yet to be unleashed, and is much lighter than the Veyron.
But in case the Veyron GT (if it is to be made) beats the Ultimate Aero, SSC will likely just turn up the boost on their car, as it is only running 14 p.s.i. right now.

And the incredible claims that the Barabus TKR can accelerate from 0-60 in 1.67 seconds and has a top speed of 270 mph HAVE YET TO BE VERIFIED, so for the moment those claims are only rumors.
If they are verified, the Ultimate Aero will likely still have a higher top speed, but if not, a simple increase of boost should fix that.

Headline: "SSC makes 'World's Fastest Car' again by boosting Ultimate Aero's horsepower to 1250 hp" or something like that. Wouldn't that be rather humorous?

Whats the fastest car I can buy for around $25,000? I was thinking Mustang gt, GTI, WRX, 350z, Lancer Evo?

Scott M

I live in the North East, so I'll have to drive in the snow. I'm probably going to be racing it so I'm also looking for reliability. Also, I'm not really into the two seaters its kinda inconvenient. Please post any suggestions.
Thank You In Advance -.-

Answer
With a budget of $25,000 you should be able to find a "fast" car with ease. The Mustang GT is a fast car but the 2005-2008 did not have the best handling with their primitive solid rear axle, which was later improved in the 2010 model to the point where is beat the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS in lateral grip. The 2005-2008 Ford Mustang GT offered a 0-60 time of 5.7 seconds which is fast but not comparable to the other cars you list. The GTI is hardly fast, a 7 sec 0-60 time is hardly a great time and a FWD and racing do not go together. The WRX offered stellar performance at an affordable cost. The 2009 Model gives a 0-60 time of 4.8 sec and is around your budget ($24,995). The critically acclaimed Symmetrical AWD will give you the needed grip and traction during hard cornering or snow driving. The Nissan 350z offers superb performance at the cost of 2 less seats, so that will not be viable for you however the big brother of the 350z, the G35 coupe, offers grade A performance with the VVEL VQ35 engine. The G35 will jump to 60 in 5.4 seconds and the sport package will give the car monoforged 19in rims, sport tuned suspension, aluminum pedals, Sport brakes, Viscous Limited Slip Differential, etc.. This all added up to great performance, great traction and classic luxury Infiniti interior. The Mitsubishi Evo IX will give you the performance of the 2009 WRX but better. A 0-60 time of 4.7 sec, the legendary 2L turbocharged engine and road gripping Mitsubishi AWD. The Evo's rally heritage really shows but the only problem is the interior. in almost every comparison, the Evo has one, Evo IX vs WRX STi or the Evo X vs WRX STi. However in snow conditions the Subaru beat the Mitsubishi. Surprisingly there are a lot of cars that may suit you. With a budget like yours you should be able to buy a new car that will give you good performance or a used car that will give you great performance. do honda or toyota still make sports car like back in the 90s?

GG

Answer
Yes and No. The 90's sports cars were simpler. Less electronics and less drivers aids, meaning they were more fun. The newer cars are still fun, but something about the 90's lighter weight simpler cars made everything better.

2000+ sports cars.
Honda and Acura:

Honda S2000(stopped production in 2010)
Acura NSX(stopped production in 2004-2005)
Honda Civic Si-still around and faster than ever for 2012.
Acura RSX Type S(stopped production in 2006 because of Civic Si)
Acura TL Type S-still around
Honda Prelude SH(stopped production in 2001)
New ACURA NSX concept in New Avengers movie coming out later in 2012. Actual car will be unveiled in 2012 and released in 2013.
New Honda S2000 replacement-Honda says will likely be all electric sports car convertible.

Toyota and Lexus:
Toyota just came out with the Toyota GT86 and Scion FRS co-developed with Subaru, who has their own version, the Subaru BRZ. Powertrain designed by Subaru.
Toyota MR2(stopped production in 2006 I believe)
Lexus IS-F-still around
Lexus LFA-better than the Supra ever dreamed to be.
Lexus GS-F-New
Toyota Supra Concept. Toyota just filed a new patent for the Supra name 4-5 months ago, which means they are bringing it back.

Is Scion FR-S 2013 Consider a sport car, or a sport sedan? and How much will it raise my car insurance?

Lawrence

Like I heard that a 2 door sedan is when it has more than 33 cubic feet of rear interior volume...
How much will it increase my insurance by? (In texas) Currently have a 2002 Toyota Sequoia I'm 17 so the insurance will be higher if I'm below 25.

Answer
It is a sports car. And it is a coupe.

Classifications:
Sports car.
Economy car
Luxury car
Super car
Muscle Car

Sub-Classifications:
Sedan is a 4 door car.
Coupe is a 2 door car.
Hatchback is a car that has a trunk that opens with the rear window.
Station Wagon is a hatchback with a longer wheelbase.
SUV
Pick up
Van
MiniVan

Insurance should be higher. The newer the car, the higher it is. Plus, it is RWD, 2 doors, and sporty. I don't know how much your insurance is now, but expect to pay an additional $50 per month.

I need information about cars .?

Q. I know what is bhp/rpm/cc . I want some general information on cars e.g., sedan / suvs etc.
Basic information about cars which a person needs to know .
I have tried a lot to delete '?' but its coming back . Some site problem, I guess .
eternal I need all that required information which a person should know generally . Lets say , if tomorrow we talk about cars then I know ample to ask or provide inputs . Simple as that..............

Answer
Suvs stands for sport utility vehicle, is a type of passenger vehicle which combines the load-hauling and versatility of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a van or station wagon. Most SUVs are designed with a roughly square cross-section, an engine compartment, a combined passenger and cargo compartment, and no dedicated trunk.

A sedan car, American English terminology (saloon in British English), is one of the most common body styles of the modern automobile. At its most basic, the sedan is a passenger car with a separate hood (bonnet in British English), covering the engine in the front, and a separate trunk (boot in British English), for luggage at the rearâthe archetypical "3-box" car.
Historically, the usage of the term sedan has changed over time. Several versions of the body style exist, including four-door, two-door and fastback models.

Honda S2000 vs. Infiniti G35?

jigm1

I'm going off to either NC state or UNC charlotte (need help deciding) and my mother is buying a car, but i can't decide if I should get the Honda or Infinite. Which would be the best choice in maintence, longativity, and cheap repairs.

Answer
I personally adore my G35 but it's costly. It doesn't get good mileage and you can only use premium. I wouldn't trust anyone with maintenance but the dealership and they rob your wallet. If you're worry about cheap repairs then you can cross the G35 off your list. The good news is G35 is known for its reliability and rarely have any problems. It rank in the top 10. If you could afford the car then you should be able to afford keeping that car healthy for a long lasting high performances.

If you are a college freshman or never live on campus then let me give some advices. Don't bring a nice car to school. I seen so many nice luxury cars get trashed and keyed on campus. There are a lot stupid or jealous college kids out there regardless of what school you go to. My best friends' BMW M3 and Infiniti FX just got completely trashed last weekend and now I'm scare for my G35.

Good Luck

I've won some cash on the lottery and want to buy a fabulous car. I hear the Pagani Zonda is nice? any others?

2_true

Answer
Depending on how much cash you have after taxes (don't forget about those) I would probably buy myself a Lexus LS (there is a new one coming out this fall; the LS460) but if you don't like the traditional luxury the LS provides then you should look into acquiring an Aston Martin or perhaps a Maserati Quattroporte. (Italian for 4 Door) Both are in the $90,000+ price range and are excellent and not so obvious ways to display wealth and class. I'm partial to the Maserati actually. It has Ferrari engineering (Ferrari owns Maserati) but it has the practicality of a 4 door sedan.

You could also look into a Jaguar XJR or an XK8. Or perhaps a Mercedes Benz SL500, but that's the obvious ride and if you want to be different the Maserati Quattroporte with its limited production run of around 5,000 copies a year is the way to go.

I think Charlotte has a Maserati dealership. So does Greensboro, NC. Getting your car serviced may be an issue if you do not live near the Maserati dealer in your region.

Is the Mercedes ML 350 2006 model considered a luxury car?

Gal in red

Answer
For many of us, a Luxury car is the kind of car a head of state uses. Not an SUV, not a Sportscar. They might be as expensive and well built, but they are not the same thing.

I think the ML is a great SUV.

Is the 2006 650i convertible a good car?

manuel

Answer
German luxury cars are sold with prepaid maintenance packages. this eliminates any quality concerns because even if something does go wrong, the buyer won't really notice the price (most of the time when you just need basic service you end up paying a bit more with the package but if something goes bad your savings are huge)
when these prepaid periods end, the cars maintenance costs start to get very high.
this is why many people who own expensive cars like these often switch cars. it's far easier to sell the used car and get a new one to not have to deal with any possible very expensive repairs. this is part of what makes these cars lose their value so much.
a 2006 car is going to be past its prepaid period. the car might be great. chances are it was well cared for by the previous owner and if the car is great you won't see any reliability issues. sure regular maintenance will be expensive but you can prepare for that. what's hard to prepare for is when things start to break. when things break on these cars and you don't have the dealership handle it automatically the costs can be astronomical. I really hope that if you are considering this car you check out ownership forums for repair prices so you get an idea of how much trouble you could find yourself in. after you do that, if you are still somewhat interested, find a BMW mechanic to inspect the car thoroughly. this will give you an idea of the conditions in which it's in. if the looks good and you are not put off by the maintenance and repair costs then you can get into whether the car is good or not. personally, i think it's a bit lacking. the engine on the 650 cant match a modern mustang GT. this car is basically a luxury mustang. better in a straight line than corners, luxury interior, and small rear seats, and relatively similar weight. (an actual 2013 mustang GT convertible will be able to beat you in a straight line drag race btw)
the car is pretty cool for what it is but it may be severely overpriced. personally I would not pay over $20,000 for such a car. I know that $20,000 is a good deal for this level of luxury and performance but the maintenance costs on the car will be high and that money needs to come from somewhere.

can you list some sports car makers and models with these qualities?

your frien

i'm trying to buy a car with these features. so i want some ideas on makes and models so i know what to look for. im using autotrader.com and it gives me multiple makes and models i can look up

sports car
convertible
metallic color
1980-2011
automatic
at least 30 mpg
2 seats
2 doors
less than 50k miles
less than $20k

preferably not 2 wheel rear drive too, but if it does, oh well
okay i understand what you guys are saying.
its okay if its manual, rwd, less than 30 mpg as long as its over 20.

any idea how many miles you can get out of a sports car?

and i want one that does nott look like a porshe. i like the ones that look like a lotus :D
*porsche typo
okay porsches are pretty fine too. but i just want one thats sexy and exotic looking. ya no? like a lambo or something. idk.

Answer
Ok, first off, most sports cars are rear wheel drive. Not very many people use AWD in convertibles, with the exception of Audi. Unless we're talking super cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini, but you're talking cheaper than that. The color and year are really kind of speculative. You'll find what you find. There isn't any way around that really.
Next, I can't think of a single convertible that has more than three doors. It just isn't done. You'd need to have a B-pillar there, and it just wouldn't fit the look at all. Picture a convertible with window frames, and that should give you an idea. Mileage and price are a bit of a problem. I really doubt you'll find a car older than 2005 with under 50K on it, unless it is a collector's item. And in that case, you can expect to pay more than 20K for it.

Toyota, BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Honda, Chrysler, or Mazda Sports Car?

JC

I am looking to buy a sports car. I would like to get the best deal for my money. I've got a price cap of $10,000 so I'm obviously looking for a used one. The main concerns I'm having are reliability and maintenance costs. But I would like for the car to have the most power and handling for my budget. I would like a manual 2 door, convertible would be nice but not a must. The cars I'm considering are below, but I'm open to other suggestions. What do you think? Thanks

Toyota MR-2
BMW z3
Mercedes SLK 230
Chrystler Crossfire
Honda s2000
Mazda rx-8
Audi TT

Answer
If you want reliability and low maintenance costs, scratch the TT, Crossfire, Z3, SLK probably the RX-8 from your list. Any of those you'll find in your price range will be high mileage, and the German cars are more expensive to maintain than the Japanese cars. The Crossfire has Mercedes engine and tranny, so don't think of it as American.

MR2 and S2000 will be more reliable.

Also, add the Mazda MX5/Miata to your shopping list, it's cheaper than an RX8 and more reliable/cheaper to maintain with a conventional engine. You might also be able to find a 350Z in your price range.

Don't forget to have whatever you choose inspected by a mechanic prior to purchase.

7-Series Sports Package Option - Worth it???

RomeoPM

I just finish signing all the paperwork to lease a BMW 750i. Because the 2008 models are about to start production, I was limited in what I could pick from if I wanted the car asap. They only had one 750i in the picky color combo I wanted. The only thing is that the car didnt have the Sports Package which I didnt want originally but now am having second thoughts.

My Boss has the sports package and the car drives a little to stiff for me. Did I make a mistake?

Answer
The original Sport Package offered on the 7-series was the 1999 740i Sport. It came with several interior and exterior styling changes and most importantly, contoured front seats, 18" staggered light aluminum rims, firmer suspension, higher-stall torque converter, and high final-drive ratio.

However, starting with the 2002 7 series, BMW dropped most of the performance increasing upgrades from before and kept the styling cues intact. The current 7 Series Sport still includes many of the interior and exterior upgrades from before, including a firmer suspension, staggered sport wheels, 3 spoke steering wheel and contoured sport seats.

The ride from a sport package is noticeably firmer and road imperfections are more pronounced. Because of the larger sport wheels, you must purchase a separate set of winter rims and tires if you are even toying with the idea of driving your car in the snow. Also, the sport tires on the 7 will wear out much more quickly than the standard 18" option. They are also considerably more expensive to replace. However, if you enjoy a more spirited driving experience, I would highly recommend getting it.

Keep in mind that getting the Sport package can sometimes limit you on some options from the factory. The Sport package includes contoured seats which cannot have the cooling or massaging functions (a nice treat in the summer or on long trips) Also, active body roll stabilization is not available on the sport as well. My best advice to you would be to drive the car for at least a couple hours and see if you enjoy the way it drives and rides. You will know your answer when you are done.

Good Cheap Stylish Sports Car?

Nicas

Im looking to buy a nice but also not two pricey sports car. Im mostly just want to be riding in style. I have a budget of maximum around 50,000 but less would be nice. Id really prefer a new car but if it was well taken care of and really nice id consider a used. I was Looking At the Dodge Viper STR but the new ones are 80,000 plus!

Answer
For a $50,000 budget, you are limiting yourself a bit. Porsche makes a good looking car called the Cayman S. Looks like a sleek smaller 911 with rear spoiler and has good statistics. You can get them with cool options and can choose transmission type (5spd,6spd,automatic...). The new ones are going around $35,000. Any model above 2010 is over $50,000. This model has 295 horsepower and top speed of approximately 290 km/h (180 mph). It handles well and has a center mounted engine for great stability. Probably the best Porsche for the money. If that design doesn't meet you tastes, the Boxster S is also stylish and well priced. Once again, any model below the 2010 year is below or at you price range. If your buying from an individual, these prices should be a bit lower.

Luxury cars that dont require premium gas?

Anthony

I have about 13500-14000 to spend and im wondering what luxury cars don't require premium. Cars like Mercedes, Cadillac, bmw, audi, infiniti, etc. If you maybe know a specific model or something that runs on regular, please inform me, many thanks! God bless.

Answer
Buying premium gas is like taking vitamins, you can't always feel the difference and yet you know it's the right thing to do. But as gas prices climb, paying the extra dime per gallon for premium is like adding insult to injury. Eventually, the thought is bound to jump into your head.... "Do I really need to pop for premium?" The key is to figure out whether premium gasoline is "required" or "recommended." If it is recommended then a driver could opt to use a lower grade of gas, if they were willing to accept slightly reduced performance and fuel economy. Most if not all luxury cars require premium gas. Luxury manufacturers like Audi, Lexus, BMW, Infiniti & Mercedes Benz require the highest octane possible for optimum performance. Most of these cars are luxury performance vehicles and they need to be taken care of properly. But not all of them do, for example the 2008 + Mercedes Benz C300 is designed as a flexible fuel vehicle. However that is not to say that every person who owns a luxury car uses Premium gas cause quite frankly I know a lot of people who drive a luxury car that requires premium gas and instead they use Mid Grade fuel. I have used Mid grade in my BMW at times and the car runs great!! However I would not go as far as putting regular gas in a luxury sports car. Mid Grade wont affect your car in any negative way from my experience, if anything the difference will be minimal or even unnoticeable but Premium fuel without a doubt is cleaner and allows the vehicle to operate as designed not to mention much smoother and it will consume fuel more efficiently. Adding regular fuel to a car that requires premium fuel will have consequences such as the knocking of the engine, poor fuel economy, throttle lag, decrease in horsepower and over all a decrease in performance. Engine problems are costly and far outweigh the small savings at the pump offered by regular gasoline.

However to directly answer your question, some cars that can run on regular unleaded fuel or are flexible on fuel consumption are the following vehicles:

2009 Lincoln MKS:
The 2009 model of Lincoln MKS, a full-size luxury sedan by the Lincoln division of Ford Motor Company, runs on regular unleaded fuel.

Cadillac CTS:
A mid-sized luxury car, the Cadillac CTS is manufactured by General Motors under its Cadillac marque. It was designed to run on regular unleaded fuel.

Mercedes Benz C-Class (C300) Luxury Sedan:
Beginning with the 2008 model, the C-Class C300 Luxury Sedan by Mercedes-Benz was designed as a flexible fuel vehicle with a multi-point injection fuel system. Thus, it does not use premium fuel but the cheaper regular unleaded gasoline incorporated with ethanol.

Are there any luxury cars that do no use premium gas?

Please dont answer me with "honda civic" or anything of that sort. I am strictly looking for a luxury style car.

Answer
No car is designed to run on premium gas. Its a law the manufacturer cant even recomend it. In reality the few benifits like higer octane for more horsepower are not worth the extra $$ The engine and the computer are timmed for regular pump gas and thats all that should be used. Unless your reffering to some exotic forien car like lamborgeine or what ever. then you can afford the gas.

What to look for in a used car under $5K?

famousfail

Answer
Well you have your budget, so the best thing to look for is what you can get for that money. Shop around, use autotrader or comparable classified adds.

The less toys a car has the less stuff that can go wrong with it.

a cars value is directly proportional to amount of luxury and lifespan left. A 5,000 luxury car will not last as long before needing major repairs as a very modest basic car with the same asking price.

know what you want. try to find one with the least amount of miles.

if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

what is a fast car for under 5k?

Eric

I am looking for a car that is under 5k that is a 1995 or newer. I'm looking for a car that has good speed stock, but can also be easily upgraded to make it faster. I don't really want anything like a civic or integra, but something still reliable. Let me know! Thanks.

Answer
* Audi UrS4 (92-~95) turbo awd 5cyl w/ 227hp
* 1991 Audi 200 20-valve turbo 217hp (awd 5cyl)
* mid 90s BMW 540i 282hp V8
* mid 90s Acura Legend with Series-II 3.2L and 6spd manual - not too moddable
* 97+ Buick Regal GS model (240hp/280tq from 3.8L supercharged V6)
* 95+ Nissan Maxima with 5-speed manual (Award winning 190hp VQ-series V6) moddable
* Buick Roadmaster with the LT1 V8 (heavy but surprising with 260hp and around 330tq) moddable
* 93+ Camaro Z28 with LT1 -- very moddable obviously, but insurance $$, decent mpg w/ T56 6spd
* mid 90s Caprice 9c1 package (police) with 260hp Lt1 -- moddable, but ~odd cop car look
* Fox body 5.0 Mustang. ~85-93 years 205-225hp very moddable of course, insurance $$
* 89-95 Taurus SHO, 5spd preferable, older SHOs were quickest 0-60 ~6.5 seconds
* Mazda RX7 turbo, pre-93 RX7 turbo w/ 200hp turbo rotary
* Mercedes 420E (heavier luxury sedan, but quick and rock solid)
* Oldsmobile 88 LSS with the L67 supercharged V6 (240hp/280tq) sleeper luxo sedan
* Dodge Spirit R/T model only, rare but has 227hp from Lotus-designed 2.2L DOHC turbo 4.
* Dodge Daytona R/T w/ same engine has Spirit R/T -- both fast cars, Spirit is more sleeperish
* Toyota Supra MK3 turbo - 232hp 5spd, very moddable but heavy car
* Toyota Celica All Trac with 2.0 turbo 190-200hp, AWD and moddable.
* 1990+ Toyota MR2 Turbo, same engine has Celica All Trac but MR setup and LSD differential.
* 1990-era Saab 900 SPG, not too quick, but moddable (notorious transmission problems though)
* Saab 9000 with 2.3 Turbo engine, ideally the Aero model with highest horsepower, 5spd.
* Volvo 850 T5, 222+hp, very moddable but all automatics
* Volvo V70, updated 850, but offers a 5spd manual in turbo models. Not sure if you can find for under $5000 though, but check.
* Volkswagen Corrado VR6, awesome handling (rivals Prelude vtec for handling)
* ~1991 Isuzu Impulse RS model only, AWD with 160hp turbo 4, Lotus designed suspension, very rare car.

Just a few of the many cars out there that can be fast as hell with little mods here n there. If you want a fast stock luxury car for cheap, look into the Cadillac Eldorado ECT or Seville STS model because they have the 300hp version of the 4.6 Northstar engine and do 0-60 in well under 7 seconds. Also the Porsche 944 turbo could be a great car for you, but it may be hard to find one under 5k in decent condition (worth the search though) and are known to be one of the best handling Porsches ever made.
