Would there be any English-speaking professional Tour Escort/Tour Supporter in Warsaw and Krakow for solo traveler?

I checked and searched it on the web but I couldn't find any...

If someone has any info, please let me know.

Answer
There are lots of tour operators in both Warsaw and Krakow. You can book tours 24 hours in advance with guides and interpreters speaking most languages. Arrangements can be made for groups and individual tourists (although individual tours are naturally much more expensive). Krakow Tours offers excursions by bus or luxury private tours by car.

You can book online at www.krakow.tours.pl
They are situated at 7 Szczepanski Square.

Where is the best place in the world of travel?

Answer
A brief question, leaving yourself open to have it interpreted.

By car: The USA, you can drive for weeks without stopping for anything but fast food and roadside motels.

By train: Japan, their inter city trains run FAST at over 150 mph, are scrupulously clean and VERY punctual. Second choice anywhere in Europe, all of the above applies, too with superb dining cars as a bonus.

By bicycle: Holland or Southern Sweden. They have complete highway systems totally dedicated to bicycles and nothing else, with most crossings level separated or with dedicated traffic lights.

For food: Anywhere in Europe, starting with France, Germany, Italy and Hungary.

For walking: The German, French or Swiss Alps. There are hiking trails of varying difficulties to suit any skill level. Many, many trails also have over night cabins with food offerings.

For history and really amazing experiences: Israel

For the same, but opposite: Krakow, Poland with bus tour to Auschwitz.

For swimming and beaches. All around Australia, particularly East coast and SW area around Perth.

For sports in general, anywhere in Australia or Western Europe.

For drinking beer, Czech Republic.

For exotic forests, The Amazon River delta and up the Amazon.

For pure luxury, if you have the money. Dubai.

For most luxurious tourist class air travel, Cathay Pacific or Dubai Airlines.

(For most sex of all kinds, if you are so inclined, paid for by you, Thailand.)

For worst experience, as unaccompanied tourist. Mumbai on a hot day, and all are hot.

What does it mean when a car is a "touring edition"?

luxury 80s cars on The Audi 80 2.6E quattro could be classified as a sports-luxury car ...
luxury 80s cars image

RogueRob

such as PT Cruisers, idk 80s mustangs i think and some other random ones, but hows it different from non-touring edition or whatever?

Answer
It varies with the manufacturer, but the idea is that the Serious Driver, as distinguished from the usual run of freeway occupants, will want this set of extra-cost options.

For example: I drive a 2000 Infiniti I30. The I30t (Touring Edition) differs from the base ("Luxury") version in the following particulars: upsized tires (225/50R17 instead of 215/55R16), something resembling traction control, high-intensity lighting, and slightly firmer shock damping. The price difference was a shade over $2000.

What is the best car for cheap (later models) to fix up and sell for a profit for first timers?

Zane

I'm thinking like a 90-92 Lexus LS400 or a 85-90 IROC Z in a couple of years for when I'm 16 to work on.

Answer
Your best bet will be an older car (before everything was proprietary and controlled by computer chips), cheaper and available parts, not a luxury car. An 80s IROC probably fits the bill, an early 90s Lexus does not.

What you're talking about is not all that easy to do. The key is to only buy very, very cheap (certainly under $2K for the cars you're talking about, probably more like under $1200) and be able to do professional quality work (particularly where it shows, like paint and interior) that adds value that someone is willing to pay extra for. Even then, you're not likely to get rich doing it, at least not at first, but everyone starts somewhere.

Good luck!

How much time do you need in July (in america) to stay in Las Vegas and go to the grand canyon?

Q. We are going to USA from Australia in July (I know...US summer..we are wanting to go to USA without snow etc so we can experience it during summer and also go to Cedar Point and Schlitterbahn water park as well. Anyway, Could we possibly just spend 2 nights in Las Vegas and drive out and see the grand canyon? (we will be flying from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and hopefully from Las Vegas to Austin, Texas (and driving 1 hour to schlitterbahn in new braunfels) and then driving to Houston, Flying to Chicago etc. Anyway, will 2 nights (flying into Las Vegas early in the morning so we get two full days be enough? We are a family of 5. We won't be gambing much probably just $5 or $10. We would be going there for a luxury hotel and to see the Grand Canyon. Will 2 full days and nights be enough? We have very limited time.

We will also be going to Sandusky, Ohio, Chicago, Boston, New York and Washington DC before flying back to Los Angeles and flying back to Australia. We have a limit of a mon
a month (4 weeks) in the US. We really wanted to get to Orlando and go to sea world, wet'n'wild and 2 disney world parks Epcot and another one. Will we have time?

We want to only spend 3 nights all up in LA, hopefully just 2 maybe 3 nights in Las Vegas, 2 or 3 nights in New Braunfels, Texas, 2 nights in Houston, 3 nights in Chicago, 3 nights in Sandusky, 4 nights in Boston, 4 or 5 nights in New York and about 3 or 4 nights in Washington DC. We want to also visit the best museums (world-class) in the last few cities I mentioned.
We would fly to Vegas. How long does it take to get from the Grand Canyon back to Los Angeles? That might be worthwhile. Is there a place to stay near the grand canyon in the heat of summer? Is it safe if you break down out there (you said there wasn't very much traffic!)
(bypassing Vegas). My concern is that there will be 5 of us (family...3 kids..parents). How many miles or kilometres is it from the Grand Canyon to Los Angeles (bypassing Vegas?) How much does it cost to rent a car for 2 days?

Answer
You are planning a very ambitious trip to the USA. My concern for you is that you are looking at quantity and not quality. I think you would have the same concern for me if our places were reversed. I have never been to Australia and plan to go there in the next year or two. I want to see as many places as possible but I also realize that just a night or two at each location is almost like not going there at all. That's what your trip to the USA looks like to me. You will be going to a lot of places without really seeing a lot. I suggest you do some research and choose fewer places to visit but plan to spend more time at each place. For example, you are going to Texas and Ohio to visit water parks and theme parks. Why not skip Texas and Ohio and spend a week in Walt Disney World instead? WDW may not have the "best" rides or the "best" water parks but it does have plenty of variety and a great atmosphere that more than makes up for it. While in Orlando you will be within an hour drive of the Kennedy Space Center which I consider a must see. Orlando is also home to Universal Studios and Sea World, and Busch Gardens in Tampa is just an hour and a half away. You could spend the better part of a month in Orlando alone. The Smithsonian museums in DC could take a week to see if you are into museums. My point is you should concentrate on quality and not quantity. You can't see the USA in one month any more than I can see Australia in two weeks.

Here's something else you might not know. When you rent a car, if you don't return it to the same location, you will be charged a "drop fee." This fee can run into the hundreds of dollars depending on how far the drop point is from the pickup point. If money is a concern, you should think about car rentals in terms of round-trips. You should also check on driver's license requirements to rent a car in the US. You might need an International Driver's License if you don't already have one.

If you pickup a rental car in Los Angeles, you can drive to Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon before returning to Los Angeles to return the car. By the way, driving from LA to Vegas doesn't take much longer than flying because of airport security, especially at LAX. And, you get a much better view of the country than you would from 6 miles up. Don't worry about breakdowns on the interstate and state highways. There is always traffic on the major routes.

It takes approximately 5 hours to drive from LA to Vegas but it depends on the number of stops you make and for how long. It also takes about 5 hours to drive from Vegas to the south rim of the Grand Canyon but you will probably want to stop at the Hoover Dam and maybe take a tour of it. The drive from the Grand Canyon back to LA takes about 7 hours via I-40 and I-15.

You need to spend a minimum of two nights (one full day) at the Grand Canyon. It's not important that you stop at every scenic lookout but do get out and hike a trail or two (not the Bright Angel and South Kaibab). The rim trail from Mohave Point to Grand Canyon Village offers excellent views and is easy to do. You should take the west rim shuttle bus to see the canyon west of the village. Jump off the shuttle and walk between two or more of the lookouts before re-boarding the shuttle to continue the trip out to Hermit's Rest. Keep an eye on your kids because sections of trails are situated along cliffs with drop-offs from a few hundred to a few thousand feet. July is an extremely busy period at the Grand Canyon so don't let the crowds and heat frustrate you. Adjust your schedule to get out early before the crowds and have your meals early or late to avoid the crowds. Check the park schedule of activities and take in a ranger talk in the evening. They are usually very informative.

If you can't get lodging accommodations at the south rim of the Grand Canyon, try the town of Tusayan which is located just outside the park about 9 miles from Grand Canyon Village. If Tusayan is not available, try Williams which is located about 60 miles south of the canyon. Make your lodging reservations as soon as possible. Summer is a very busy time of year at our national parks. WDW is also very busy so book early.

Welcome to America! I really hope you and your family enjoy your visit. Stay safe and have a good time.

What are the specifics on Obama's fuel efficiency plan regarding low mpg sports cars, such as the corvette?

sports cars information on The Freeman, Volume 4: Amazon.de: Anonymous: Englische Bcher
sports cars information image

umm...

From what i heard, the average fuel efficiency of a companies fleet must be 35 mpg, but does this only apply to cars or to trucks as well, and does this mean low mpg cars will still exist as sports cars or no?

Answer
You are misinformed. This isn't "Obama's fuel efficiency plan," it is actually Bush's plan.

The new fuel economy standards are part of H.R. 6, the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, signed by President Bush on Wed. Dec. 19, 2007.
Bill H.R. 6 information: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d110:6:./list/bss/d110HR.lst::|TOM:/bss/110search.html|
The fuel economy portion is also called the "Ten in Ten Fuel Economy Act."
Basically, beginning with the 2011 model year, the Sec. of Transportation (with input from the Sec. of Energy and the Administrator of the EPA) shall start moving the CAFE standard up annually, until in model year 2020 it is at or over 35mpg. The law doesn't state by how much it has to increase annually, just that it increases until 2020.

President Obama has just asked the US EPA and DOT to accelerate the existing 35mpg CAFE Bush mandate's date of 2020 up to 2016. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/President-Obama-Announces-National-Fuel-Efficiency-Policy/

Previous to the 2007 law, the last time that Congress set the fuel economy standards, was back in 1975 (when Ford was president), so moving the bar up from 27.5mpg for cars to 35mpg after 32 years shouldn't be much of a problem. (Light trucks have always had a lower rating to keep.)

Remember that the MPG listed on the Monroney label (window sticker, also listed at http://www.fueleconomy.gov/) isn't the fuel economy numbers used for the CAFE standards. CAFE uses the raw fuel economy numbers from the laboratory dynometer tests, but consumers only see the downward multiplied numbers to account for more "realistic driving."

The CAFE standards are based on the city/highway average of the raw laboratory data, multiplied by the vehicle sales. The devaluation for the sticker/fuel economy label has no effect on the CAFE average. The more sales of a high-MPG vehicle, the more that'll balance out sales of a low-MPG vehicle... So production numbers will probably change to include more of the fuel efficient vehicles to outweigh the sales of the less fuel efficient ones. Just like how manufacturers currently can sell vehicles that are less than the 25mpg fleet average so long as you have others to balance you out, the change to 35mpg doesn't mean that all vehicles will have to be over 35mpg... Nothing about cars getting smaller or lighter or adding hybrid systems, but more about changing the mix of what is sold. Nothing about the existing cars prior to the 2011 model year.

Heavy trucks/work vehicles are not affected - vehicles with GVWR over 8,500 pounds aren't tested for fuel economy. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/which_tested.shtml

You can view the raw EPA test data for various years, and an explanation of the columns, here: http://www.epa.gov/otaq/tcldata.htm

For an example, let's take the 2008 Toyota Highlander and the 2008 Dodge Viper Coupe.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2008_Toyota_Highlander.shtml
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2008_Dodge_Viper.shtml

lists for consumers:
TH 2WD: 18mpg city/24mpg highway
TH 4WD: 17mpg city/23mpg highway
TH Hybrid 4WD: 27mpg city/25mpg highway
DV Coupe: 13mpg city/22mpg highway

but using the 2008 raw data, which the CAFE standards are based on:
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/mpg/testcars/database/08tstcar.csv
TH 2WD: 22.1mpg city/33.1mpg highway
TH 4WD: 21.2mpg city/31.3mpg highway
TH Hybrid 4WD: 35.3mpg city/35.2mpg highway
DV Coupe: 15.6mpg city/30mpg highway

So I wouldn't expect much change in the cars being offered, but the availability of certain gas-guzzlers may be less.

how much does it cost to restore a mgb to running condition. on average?

dt

I want to restore a small sports car to running condition, just to tool around town. I would like any information on how much it might cost to restore one on average. I understand that this is tough to answer but would like any advice that you might have on the cost of restoring it.

Answer
I'm not very familiar with your car so I am basing my answer on old cars in general. The other writers make valid points about bodywork etc, but I'm going to go under the premise you just want to get it running and not do a complete restoration if possible. I am also taking it for granted the engine and transmission are solid and the car just hasn't been run for a while and was stored under good conditions (indoors) and not in a backyard for 25 years. I can't give you a dollar figure but I'll list what I would do and then you can get the prices from parts houses or repair shops if you're not going to do the work yourself. For the engine: Remove the spark plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinders. Turn the engine over a few times by hand. There will be at least some surface rust in the cylinders and you don't want to scrape it off with dry rings. Once that is done replace the following parts: Plugs, points, condenser, cap rotor, wires, fuel filter, air filter. It wouldn't be a bad idea to disassemble the distributor, clean everything up, and make sure the advance weights and springs move freely. Change oil and filter (if equipped). Remove the starter and test it with jumper cables. If it's just a little sluggish take it apart, clean it, lube the bearings. If it's dead or completely rusted inside, replace it. Electrical: Install a new battery, replace cables, check all electrical connections throughout the car for corrosion. Replace headlight bulbs, turn signal bulbs, brake light bulbs. Fuel system: rebuild or replace the carburetor. Remove the fuel tank and have it boiled out by a shop to remove rust. (Many radiator repair shops can do it) Check metal fuel lines, replace any flexible lines, rebuild or replace the fuel pump. Drivetrain: The clutch itself may still be usable at least for a short period of time but be prepared to replace it. Change transmission oil, clean clutch and shift linkage. Some older cars had grease fittings on the clutch linkage and if that's the case with your car, by this time any old lubricant has become a petrified glob of hardened crud. If no grease fittings, take the clutch and shift linkage apart and clean them. Check universal joints. If they have grease fittings then grease them but be prepared to replace them especially after they are put back in service. There's a good chance they could be rusty inside and after a short time will need to be replaced. Drain and refill rear end lubricant. There's probably no drain plug so you'll need a suction gun or if there is a removable cover plate, remove the plate and clean whatever you can reach by hand. Steering: Check lubricant in the steering box, grease the front end, check for wear. Brakes: Rebuild or replace the master cylinder and all wheel cylinders. Replace brake shoes and springs. Have all drums cut to remove rust. If they are maxed out or severely warped and out of round, replace them. Repack or replace all wheel bearings and replace grease seals. If you're not very familiar with the car expect things to go wrong which may not occur to you now. For instance if I found an old 8 cylinder Ford Mustang that hadn't been driven in 25 years I'd replace the timing chain because it was an item known to wear out at about 75,000 miles. If the car had been sitting for a long time then put back in service I'd be foolish not to replace the chain even if I got the car running. A lot is going to depend on how it was stored. If it was up on blocks in a garage you stand a good chance of doing just the things I mentioned to get it drivable. If it has been out in a field for 25 years, subject to the weather, mice, etc, be prepared for a full restoration before you even think of driving it. It might be worth the time and cost to have it towed to a mechanic you trust and pay him to go over the car and tell you if it's worth trying to fix up to drive without a complete rebuild and-or restoration. It's one thing to get it running and go up and down the driveway. It's another thing to drive it on the street.

What, in your opinion, is the cheapest auto insurance for a full coverage sports car?

Hey guys, I need some serious help!

I bought a 2005 Mini Cooper convertible last year and have always been on my familys insurance but I was dropped and I need insurance ASAP.

What can I expect to pay monthly? I want to put it in my name, but I have tickets and a DWI (still havent gone to court for, so idk if it makes a difference, yet...) and a suspended license so I bet my insurance would be ridiculous! My fiancee also has too many tickets to be a candidate.

I'm thinking about using my 63 year old Godmother who's the original signer on the car because she doesn't have any tickets or accidents so I figured the full coverage would be cheap in her name. She's the one who signed for my car anyway. I'm the cosigner, but she's totally cool with putting the insurance in her name if it saves me money.

So, four questions...

1) How much would insurance cost for me?
2) How much would insurance cost for my Godmother?
3) What's the cheapest insurance carrier?
4) What's the average for a full coverage sports car?

So yeah, I'm FULL of questions :D Feedback is appreciated, merci!

BQ) Who do you have insurance with?
BQ2) What kind of vehicule do you have? <3
Ed, I don't plan on driving until I take care of my DWI and suspended license.
My fiance is the only one who drives my car now, but I heard the insurance only had
to be in the name of whoever signed for the car. Cosigner or signer, I was told it didn't matter.
SSFCU told me as long as I have full coverage on my car, everything's good.

Answer
The only way you can answer these questions is to get a quote, and you can do this online using sites that offer links to the lowest rates, if that's what you want.

Once you have insurance can you drive any car that you own?

Ok lets say you owned like a 90 honda accord or something, and you had cheap insurance for it. since its also an economic car, you use it most of the time you drive. but if you owned two other cars, such as a big v8 4x4 or a sports car v6 would you need to have separate insurance for those? or are you able to drive anything you own since you have insurance? does it matter as long as you dont get into any accidents?

Answer
The insurance you get is for that car only. You have to get insurance for each vehicle. Also, If your friend lets you drive their car ask for proof of insurance before you drive it. You will get the ticket if you drive their car without insurance.

This doesn't speak for all luxury car drivers, but from a personal experience the people that turn out in front of me, drive all over the road, cut me off, and break the rules of the road tend to be luxury car drivers, especially Mercedes and BMW drivers, and sometimes SUV drivers. The one time I almost died on the road was with a Mercedes driver, who was driving in the middle of a narrow unmarked road with trees on the side. I was as close to side as I can get and was hoping he would move out of the center of the road, but he never did, and somehow never hit me, he had to be within inches. But it makes make me mad how people think everyone should yield to them even when they're not supposed to just because they drive a $50000+ car.

Answer
I cant make out if there is a question in there somewheres/sounds like a drivers rant on road rage

Would it be better to buy new or higher end used for a car?

Q. Like buying a New Ford Focus or a Honda Civic VS buying like a 5 year old used Lexus Es350 or a Audi A4?

Answer
The best value oriented is a late model used car still under factory warranty so it is neither new nor a 5 year old luxury car. New cars could be a better choice when there are promotions offering large discounts and/or cash back. If going for an older car, dealers are typically selling at a premium near retail book value, so it takes a lot of shopping in the private sales market, and then caution about the seller and car condition. Even a Lexus can be ruined by bad maintenance practices.

The Focus is averaging 31 mpg on regular gas, and a 6 cylinder ES300 or 4 cylinder turbo A4 are 22 to 24 miles per gallon (2007 models). You are at about $17000 to $18000 for a 2006/2007 with miles 42000 to 50000 at best for an Audi A4. A Lexus ES350 in that price range has closer to 90,000 miles on it already.

I would go for a newer car under warranty with a decent mpg.

I am looking to build a car as just a project to keep me busy this vacation because my parents wont let me go out, i know its going to take a lot longer then whats left of this week but planning will take my mind off the fact that ill be bored as hell. I don't need it to be some luxury sports car just something that looks nice and can run, it doesn't even need to be street legal. What are the parts i would need, approximate cost, and a guide of some sort, tools, etc. I live very close to Boston, MA and am 14 so i would probably need my dad to buy the stuff

Answer
This does not look reasonable to me, as cars neither built by an individual nor at home.

I want an american car.. preferably GM. What are good sports cars other the the Camaro? Im not looking to buy a brand new one. Ford or any other american car business works too though.

Answer
are your parents rich? if so, then a sports car would be fine. and just fyi, don't buy GM, they're prolly the worse car makers in the world. if you buy anything with a GM motor in it, it WILL break after 4 months. I have tested this, and it is confirmed.

If you want to not look like a spoiled brat, get an older muscle/sporty car. Like a 1994 camaro, or a 1990 firebird. heck, even a 1976 corvette would do you well. you most likely won't find one of these running, so put a v8 big block in and listen to it purr. If you do end up with one of these, make sure you bring it to races and car shows, or it'll be a waste.

If you want to look like a spoiled brat, get any year 2000+ car you see and like the look of. Don't even ask what motor and parts are in it, since you're not paying for it, why would you care. My personally recomendations for the spoiled brat car is 2010 integra, 2009 ferrario, lambourginis, etc.

good luck

Can you tell me about all the sports cars in these car brands?

Lucas

I have heard of MIII and Z4 in BMW. I don't know anything about Mercedes-Benz or Pontiac sports cars.

Answer
Mercedes "sports" cars are generally AMG badged (it's their performance badge). Pontiac generally uses GXP as their sports model designation (at least up to their demise) but prior performance models didn't have the designation (GTO, Trans Am WS6, etc.).

What do you think of teenagers and nice cars?

Ben

I go to a public school and there are a lot of rich kids. A lot of the kids have really nice cars. The most expensive car a student has is a Shelby GT500 mustang. There is also kids with new Camaro SS's, Mustang GT's, Scion FR-S's, Impreza's and just so much more different sports cars with the Mustang being the most common car in the student parking lot. This just pisses me off, because i have to earn the money for my car and will probably at most save $5000, with my parents throwing in however much I save. So what do you think of teenagers and nice cars?

Answer
Well 10 grand should buy a very nice used car, you are lucky to have that. all those other kids with the nice cars as you put it were bought by Mommy and Daddy they will never truly appreciate what they have like you will.

Don't let it piss you off just be glad that you can say I worked and saved to buy my car, Mommy and Daddy didn't help (well thats what you can tell them). There are always going to be some kids no matter what high school you go to driving fancy new cars, but I bet if you took a closer look at the lot there are more mundane everyday cars out there in the lot than there are nice fancy ones.

Also consider this the cost to own one of those cars is out of sight for young drivers too insurance is nuts, they have payments or their parents do, when they brake down repairs are expensive if they are not under warranty, and other costs are higher too on new high priced cars.

You know what I had in high school a 79 Chevy pickup and I graduated in 2000, so it was not new by any means it was 21 years old when I got it. I wish I still had that old truck and would have never sold it, my uncle tore it up bad. He got out ok but the same can't be said for the truck it went to the scrap yard.

I was proud of my old Chevy and so what some punk may have been raving about his new fast sports car, in no way was he ever as proud as I was about that old truck because it was mine, I worked for it and bought and paid for it 100% and kept it on the road, and could truly say that was my vehicle 100% owned and loved by none other than ME!

hey guys i just got mi licence and my dad that i can buy a car for under 45000. I just have to pay the down payment and the res the'll take care of. I want a good sports car thats fast powerful and also advance. Please no american cars as mi dad said no to them and it has to be with 4 doors. So far im looking at the infinti g37, BMW 3 series, Lexus IS, Audi A4 or s5 Acura RL. Please tell me if you guys have any other in mind. So far im thinking about the g37 its fast, a good company, powerfull and tech filled and also its not that much. so if you guys could tell me it would be great. And it has to be an executive luxury car my dad wants no other. Also i plan on paying a 10000 dollar down payment i took up a job and made 9000 so if you guys could tell me how much interest, sales tax would be on it if i lease it for 32 months. The car is gonna be bought under my dads name. he has good credit and owns a MB S550 so if you guys could tell me that would be great thanks

Answer
First, everyone needs to lay off the "money bashing". Assuming this is a legit scenario, his dad drives a $90K+ car and is willing to buy one that costs up to half that for his son. Family obviously has money, and they can spend it however they damn well please.

Of the cars you list, I'm partial to the Lexus IS. I checked out all of these before I bought, and went with the Lexus. Tech interface is the best, which was important to me, and I suspect to you. Get the nav, it's then touch screen everything. Integrated i-pod, touch screen radio and climate controls, blue tooth cell phone w/ voice command dialing, nav is best in class. The perforated leather seats with the air conditioning is also really cool.

These are all good cars though, and none would be a wrong choice.

Is it a good idea to sell my 525i BMW engine gone bad? Please help?

You are lo

I paid a lot for my 2002 525 BMW Sports package fully equipped, I feel horrible, after replacing alternator, battery, dealer repairs, (expensive) I also had to replace the radiator, but now this car 's gone bad, I was told the catalytic converters have to be replaced and now it also needs a new engine.
I paid cash for this vehicle about 5 years ago was bought at a dealership for $ 40,000 and now the mechanic I had trusted for years said, I shouldn't repair it and I'm lucy if I get $ 1,00 for this car, warranty expired and I've paid out of pocket for the previous repairs, what should I do, car has 113, 000 miles,
Mechanic said if he changes engine it doesn't guarantee the car will turn out ok, please help, I need to know if I should get rid of it, everything worked okay a/c and it's a beautiful car. gone too soon!
I put it up for sale and I'm getting calls immediately. Please advise.
Thanks

Answer
Ok, so I bought an 02 530 sport a yr ago with 77k for 13k and spent about 4k on repairs including a new suspension (5k if you count new tires and rims). The cars now go for 8k-12k, which is fair, depending on whether the maintenance was done or not and mileage. I took some heat from my wife, but she still asks to drive my car instead of hers when she goes out with her friends.

So take the emotion out of the equation and figure what it would take to bring your current car up to what it should be. I'm not saying its not a lemon but unless it has a bent frame it can be fixed.

Compare repair costs to what it would cost to buy a used 525 in excellent condition, minus of course, what you can get for your current car. Say it costs $4000 to fix your current car, which is worth $2000 if you sell it without fixing it. The choice is spending $4000 for really extensive repairs or $8000 for the new used car ($10000 buying price minus $2000 for your car). The choice is obvious, no?

Another thing to think about is the aggravation of buying and selling 2 cars, and again, do you really know the new used car is not a lemon?

A third option is to sell your car and put the money toward a lease or a newer economy car.

I'd say a good aftermarket catalytic converter plus installation should cost you 1000 or less, so why not do that and see if it cures your ills. If it is your transmission, you can have a rebuilt one put in or convert to manual if you have an automatic. Both should still be under your 4000 budget I think. If you're on the east coast, I'll give you a name of a good indy who can do it.

Hope that helps. You are a good person, don't fret!

We are looking to buy a luxury car like a BMW, Audi, Lexus or Volvo. However, we're unsure if they are worth the additional costs. Is it worth it to buy a luxury car or should we just spend less money on a Toyota Camry?

Answer
yes, well they are if u got the money to spend

Do luxury cars depreciate faster than average cars?

Jason Sant

I am planning to buy a car. Being a business major and being the thrifty person that I am I would never buy a brand new car because once you drive it out the dealership it already depreciated. A one to two year old car is an ideal buy. My economics professor brought up a good point that luxury cars are cheaper to maintain than normal cars. I live in Hawaii which was ranked the worst state to own a car because maintainance is so expensive.

Answer
I would suggest that you use a shopping tool like Yahoo Autos. Just because it is a luxury car does not mean it depreciates less. Some drop in value faster then a lead ball in a clear sky.
I just pulled up a Ford Taurus and a BMW 5 series. Now the 5 series may not be a true luxury car but it is an up scale car. The BMW depreciates almost 30000 dollars (63%) in the first five years, while the Ford only 15000 dollars (48%). Now there may be cars that break this trend'.With the Ford only costing 26600 dollars to begin with is seems that the total cost of the car is almost free when compared to owning a BMW which looses more in depreciation then the Ford costs new.
So do some study, my gut feeling is that it takes a lot of money to buy a car that will keep its resale value up and then it will only be a percentage think. Lets face it, if a car costs 100000 dollars and it only depreciates 10% of its value in a given year, that is still a lot of money!
Sorry, I miss read the question, even if BMW throws in maintanance for free, it takes a lot of maintanance to make up for the extra 15000 dollars worth of loss on depreciation.

Which racing track would you recommend if I were to go to a sports car race?

Shaowa

I'm thinking of taking my boyfriend to a sports car racing, but I have no idea how I should start. Which racing track would you guys recommend? Any places in Southern California please.:) Thank you!

Answer
Aha, looks like you took my advise from a previous answer about considering going to a sportscar race.
If you want to go this year, your choices are limited and the only race left on the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) is at the Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca, Oct 19-21. See link below and scroll to bottom of page.
http://www.americanlemans.com/Schedule/SeasonSchedule.aspx
This link will take you to the Mazda Raceway website which has schedules and ticket information:
http://www.laguna-seca.com/
The Rolex Series has only one race left on the schedule, but it's next weekend at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
Looks like some of the other people who answered your question should take remedial reading. Bristol is an oval race track, it isn't in Southern California and it doesn't host a sportscar race.
By the way, there are no more major events at Infineon Raceway, that last one was on the weekend.
I hope at least some of this is helpful.

How to enter sports car racing?

Dan

For quiet a while I've been wanting to know the appropriate steps to enter sports car racing. I'm particularly interested in IMSA Lights racing and any kind of entry level open wheel racing. I currently live in Florida. What kind of cars and/or series would be best for this interest, or what steps should be taken?

Answer
Look to the SCCA. Formula Fords and 2000's are great ways to get started in purpose built cars. The other option is to start taking your street car to a high-performance driving event and start learning to drive what you brought.

Q. im trying to figure out how much my car insurance will be. im 17, ive never owned a car, have no credit history and i want to buy a 1990 toyota supra which is a sports car. the car will probably cost $5000. i just really need to know how much i can expect to be paying a month with insurance and monthly payments

Answer
Not sure this is the right place for you to post this question. Anyhow, insurance rates can vary widely depending on the insurance provider and the specific plan you sign up for as well as whether or not you'll be on your own plan or one with your parents. Too many variables to come up with any type of legitimate estimate.

What is the very first sports car ever made in history?

I'm not talking about the ones used for racing... more like the sports cars that people like to use to drive around because they're fast.

What is the difference in fuel quality at the pump?

luxury cars that use 87 octane gas on LUXURY FAST CARS WALLPAPERS: July 2010
luxury cars that use 87 octane gas image

Whenever I fill up the tank and get the cheapest gas, I wonder what I am paying for if I ever choose the "Supreme" quality instead of the regular quality i always go with. Does it make the car run any better? I never noticed a difference. And who goes with the middle grade? Is it mediocre gasoline?

Answer
The Low-Down on High Octane Gasoline
Are you tempted to buy a high octane gasoline for your car because you want to improve its performance? If so, take note: the recommended gasoline for most cars is regular octane. In fact, in most cases, using a higher octane gasoline than your owner's manual recommends offers absolutely no benefit. It won't make your car perform better, go faster, get better mileage or run cleaner. Your best bet: listen to your owner's manual.

The only time you might need to switch to a higher octane level is if your car engine knocks when you use the recommended fuel. This happens to a small percentage of cars.

Unless your engine is knocking, buying higher octane gasoline is a waste of money, too. Premium gas costs 15 to 20 cents per gallon more than regular. That can add up to $100 or more a year in extra costs. Studies indicate that altogether, drivers may be spending hundreds of millions of dollars each year for higher octane gas than they need.

What are octane ratings?
Octane ratings measure a gasoline's ability to resist engine knock, a rattling or pinging sound that results from premature ignition of the compressed fuel-air mixture in one or more cylinders. Most gas stations offer three octane grades: regular (usually 87 octane), mid-grade (usually 89 octane) and premium (usually 92 or 93). The ratings must be posted on bright yellow stickers on each gasoline pump.

What's the right octane level for your car?
Check your owner's manual to determine the right octane level for your car. Regular octane is recommended for most cars. However, some cars with high compression engines, like sports cars and certain luxury cars, need mid-grade or premium gasoline to prevent knock.

is there a real difference between premium and regular unleaded? or is it just a gimmick?

riddelinpr

also, which gas stations are the best to buy from? I usually buy chevron or shell.

Answer
What you are reffering to is called the OCTANE a measure of the autoignition resistance of gasoline (petrol) and other fuels used in spark-ignition internal combustion engines.

Octane is measured on a scale of 0-100. In America, you are probably used to seeing 87 (regular) , 89 Premium and 93 Ultra.
These are just marketing terms used for people who are not educated about the gasoline refinery grades.

To make it simple for you, Octane ratings point to the amount of "knock" expected from the engine's burning of the fuel.
Engine knocking is compression detonation of fuel in the power stroke of the engine. Knocking occurs when the air-fuel mixture autoignites all at once (or sometimes perhaps when the flame front goes supersonic because of early ignition timing), before the flame front from spark plug ignition can reach it. The explosive reaction causes combustion to stop before the optimum timing, causing a decrease in performance. A fuel with a high autoignition temperature that burns reasonably fast and thus does not need early ignition timing will most often have high practical value knock resistance. Ethanol is such a fuel.

Basically the higher the octane, the lower the KNOCKING and the more combustible the fuel.

NEwer fuels such as ETHANOL E85 are composed of 85% Ethanol and 15% gasoline.
Ethanol which is an alcohol has higher octanes than similar gasolines, less knock and burns cleaner and cooler than gasoline BUT, since Ethanol is corrosive it damages car's fuel lines that can't resist its properties of corrosion.
That is why your current gasoline is only mixed with 10% ethanol rather than 85%. E85 is coming to most cities in the next 5 years.

Airplane fuel for military jets is of the highest octane because it must be volatile enough so that the engine won't "flame-out" in combat manuevers.

Some cars such as luxury sports cars and luxury SUV's require no less than 93 because they require a fuel that burns quickly, and in its entirety with no knock. Take for example a RR Phantom. If you use that car with 87 Octane, you will hear the engine knocking and eventually you will damage the engine.

Super Luxury cars such as the Bugatti Veyron require no less than 97 Octane (Racing Fuel) which costs $8 a gallon.

I'd say the best gaoline stations to buy from are BP, EXXON, SHELL, and HESS. These are well-known, trustable gasoline marketers who are more likely to sell you what you pay for than to try and rip you off by adding water to your gas or selling you false octanes.

If you want somebody to get you into Formula Ford, then contact one or all of the racing teams below. They are all experienced and organised and even if they can't help you themselves they might be able to put you on to somebody. I wouldn't go telling anybody that you will give them 98% of the money...let them make you an offer before you mention any figures.

EDIT

I'd have thought that bringing sponsorship money with you from India would be a better bet than asking British companies to sponsor someone with no racing history in Europe. If you turn up with some money from Indian sponsors, then you might well be able to get help from one of the teams I listed. So you'd be better off using somebody you know in India to represent you initially, you can always get a European manager once you have established yourself a bit over here.

I am a 16 year old and I am looking for a nice looking car(from the sports car family) with good gas mileage. I've looked everywhere and can't find a descent looking sports car with good mpg..........Please help!

Answer
Nissan Pulsar. You probably won't find one though.

look for a Toyota MR2. or a Pontiac Fiero. both are cool sports cars from the 90's.

Why do people say that European sport cars have better fuel economy?

Steven

The general consensus is that European cars, including their sport cars, have better fuel economy than their competitors (this especially the case when compared to American automobiles). Almost every "Car with the Worst MPG" list (or one with a similar title) almost every sport car on those list are either models of wither Lamborghini, Ferrari, Bugatti, and other European models. If these different lists all have these same models in their count then there must be something to these similarities (in this case that these European sports cars have worse fuel economy than those from non-European manufacturers).

So why do people keep stating the opposite of what appears to be the truth in this case? Can someone explain this clearly to mean?

Btw this question is only about sport cars.

Answer
I never heard of people saying that Euro cars are more efficient.

But anyways, look at Porsche. They have some of the cleanest running engines. In big cities, the city air going into the intake is dirtier than the air coming out of the exhaust. So it is like a vacuum cleaner.

And the 480HP+ Porsche 911 Turbo that reaches 193mph and goes from 0-60mph in 3.2 seconds gets 25mpg highway and 18mpg city. There is no competing supercar that comes close to those figures.
