is buying a car with a lot of miles bad?

audrey

im 16 and looking to buy a car. i have to get a cheap one (about $10,000 and under) and every car that i look at has a lot of miles
does that really matter? and if so what happens with a car with a lot of miles?
like 90k miles - 150k.

Answer
Not really sure what you're looking for. I was looking a week ago and saw an Audi A4 with 60K miles for 10K listed locally. Great deals like that come along, just watch and jump. I'm sure you'll be able to find something good.
If you're looking for something japanese, look at Nissan and Mitsubishi. They have the same qualities and appeal as Toyota and Honda, but they are less well known so you get a better deal.
Hyundai and Kia make very good, cheap cars.
However, I think the best deals in used cars are from the European luxury makes. You can have an Audi or Mercedes for the same price as a Camry. I think it's a no-brainer.
Cars.com, Autotrader.com, and Craigslist have tons of listing, so use them all

Who is able to afford a luxury car?

wooball2

I was returning from a vacation a few weeks ago and on the way back I decided to go back through Washington DC instead of Baltimore. All over the Capitol Beltway were luxury cars. Mercedes Benz, BMW, Lexus, Infiniti, etc. I know Washington DC is an overall well-off area but my question still remains. Who is able to afford a luxury car? Who are these people? What are their professions? How much money do they make? Just curious.

Answer
Who is able to afford one and who actually has one is not the same thing.

What you're asking is who can afford one. What you're observing on the road is who has one. There are plenty of people with no emergency fund, little saved for retirement and are living paycheck to paycheck that buy stuff they shouldn't. That's a lot of what you see.

Personally, I would never buy a car that exceeds 1/3 of my annual net income.

To me, that means if you're buying a $50K car, you should have a NET of $150K/yr, which means a gross of closer to $200K/yr.

Most people that buy $50K cars don't make that......if you don't care too much about savings, retirement, fiscal responsibility and don't mind a 72 month loan, you can get a $50K car for about $750/mo, which is $9,000/yr. If your priorities are in the wrong place, someone who makes $60K/yr can do that, and plenty of people make $60K/yr.

Whats a cheap affordable sports car?

karim

Something like Hyundai Tiburon, I'd also like the car to be manual!

Easy 10 points!

Answer
Technically, a sports car is a small, lightweight, 2 seat, 2 door, rear wheel drive roadster (convertible). By that definition, a Tiburon is everything a sports car isn't. If you're looking for used, you can't go wrong with a Miata, as others said. It's everything a sports car is supposed to be, and nothing it's not. The Honda S2000 is another brilliant sports car, but it will cost quite a bit more for a 2000 S2000 (roughly $8-11,000) than say, a 1995 miata (maybe $5000). If you really want to go old, there's the old MG Midget, AC Ace, Triumph Spitfire and TR7, etc. Close to new, in addition to the Miata, would be a Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky.

Sports car insurance... Wil it be cheaper if...?

dereknaut

Well im 18 years old and still live with my rentz. I have a job and i make 1400-1600$ a month. I have only a few minor bills. Here in about 3 weeks im buying a 1996 pontiac firebird v6 coupe from a dealership. Before i buy the car i need some insurance info. Iv been to over 10 of the leading insurance companies and gotten rate quotes and there all 400$+ a month.. This is suprising because i only payed 120$ a month for my old car ( f150). So im wondering if my insurance will go down if my parents add me and my car to there insurance? If so how would i go about this? And how much of a price difference would it be? All answers are appriciated.. **No Spam Please**

Answer
It may be cheaper if the car is in your parents name but it will not be cheap. Read below for the rules on cars and drivers in the same household;

Insurance companies want to know about all licensed household members (it does not matter if they are young or old) so they can calculate their potential risks for having you and these drivers covered by your insurance policy. When you purchase liability insurance (which every auto insurance policy has), there is a law that requires insurance companies to cover all household members who have a drivers license. Most all insurance companies will require that you either add licensed household members to the policy or exclude them. This is because as household members it is assumed they have access to your vehicles and may drive them at any time. These drivers are thus a risk/rating factor to be taken into consideration.
Many state laws require it, and your policy contract has in it terms that say you must inform them of licensed drivers dwelling in your household, so that they can add him as a driver to your policy and rate accordingly or exclude him. Excluding anyone from your car insurance would mean that you are not paying extra on your policy to have him/her as a driver and thus they are not extended any coverage by your insurance policy if they were to drive your car and be in an accident, even if it were an emergency situation.
So most insurance companies will require you to place the non-relative household member on your insurance policy as a driver if he is licensed. All licensed household members are normally required to be listed as a driver or excluded on an auto insurance policy by the insurance provider.
If you have a licensed household member, whether a relative, roommate, etc, the insurer believes that the person will have access to your vehicle and thus is a rating factor that should be on your insurance policy. If the person really is not going to drive the insured vehicle then there should not be an issue with excluding them. Without you signing off on the exclusion the insurance company cannot really believe that a licensed household member may not drive your car.
State laws differ however. Typically, insurance companies are allowed to use classifications that reflect a possible exposure for liability on the part of the insurer, in the event that bodily injury or property damage occurs due to the operation of the vehicle by anyone in your household.
The perceived risk for non-household members by an insurance company is different and that is why you can normally let a friend that does not live with you borrow your vehicle without adding him or her to your policy.
A friend may occasionally borrow your car and be covered by your insurance because they do not have regular access to your car and thus are not rated as a risk factor on your policy. If you do have someone outside of the household that regularly drives your car then normally an insurance carrier usually would also want this person listed an occasional driver so they would be properly covered in an accident.

Looking to Move; Chicago or Houston?

Dan

I am right out of medical school and I'm looking for someplace new. Which city has it all? Restauraunts, entertainment, sports, quality of life; I need some help here ;D

Answer
Chicago is the better choice for most BUT Houston has TMC with more medical research and grant money in any cohesive area but Bethesda.

Chicago costs a little more that Houston to live in. Mostly in housing.
You must have a car in Houston. The weather is to hot and humid for normal human beings.
You live in air conditioning 8 to 9 months of the year if not all year. Then there are the hurricanes.
Most of Chicago does not even get a tornado.

It can get real cold and real hot in Chicago but it only lasts a couple of days or weeks.

The quality of life in Chicago is way better than Houston.
Both have lots of excellent restaurants.
Chicago has more theater, a better symphony and slightly better Opera than Houston but in Houston you can get tickets easily, Not if Chicago since most tickets are scoffed up by subscribers.
Nearby suburbs of Chicago are real towns and cities not just more tract housing like in Houston.

Japanese turbo cars.....?

The Wise M

Hey guys so I'm getting my first car and I want a Japanese "sports car".. I want something along the lines of toyota, nissan, subaru, Mitsubishi, acura, mazda, and honda.. Long story short I want a car that is turbo or one that I can turbo myself, I want it to look nice and be fast... Originally I was looking at a already turbo'ed civic with a nice bodykit on it... But it sold.. I have also been looking at 300zx's and impreza's... Now after the car I was looking at and wanted sold I'm not really sure what I should look for, like I said I want a Japanese turbo car.. So any suggestions really help (budget is 5000) thanks

Answer
If anything get a car that came factory turbocharged. Otherwise get them stock and mod it yourself. Most likely the person who had the turbocharged car beat the sh*t out of it or they built it wrong. Make sure its clean. If it didnt come factory turbo'd like the civic make sure it was a fullybuilt motor that can handle the turbo otherwise your blowing your motor in sometime. If your budget is 5k. Your best bet for a turbocharged car is a DSM. Mitsubishi Eclipse GST(fwd) or GSX(AWD). If you get one of these get them stock as possible and clean. Most of these are going to be beat the sh*t out of. Fast and Fun cars. Can make serious HP

Saints row the third questions?

Q. Ok so i got just got this game today, and i have a few questions. 10 points to best awnsers. 1. How much money do you think it takes to completly pimp out a car (like max durability, good paint job, nice rims, exct.) 2. can you surrender to the police, and if so how? 3. Where can i find a helicopter/plane? 4. Where can i find the best car to "pimp out"? THANKS

Answer
1) It depends what car, it could range from $500-$20,000.
2) No, but theres an upgrade in the 'homies' section that loses all police stars.
3) As you get further in the game you'll get planes and helicopters and theyll be in your garage, but theres an airfield around the top right corner of your map, explore that area and youll find planes and helicopters.
4) My favourite car is the 'Arizona' its a sports car fully pimped and ONE of the fastest.
Hope this help

Should i get GTA San Andreas or Saints Row 2 for xbox 360?

Me and my friend want to play online multiplayer with planes and we dont know what to get.

Answer
I think you should get GTA San Andreas. Many people say it's old and the graphics are old but who cares? What matters most, the graphics or the fun? To me it's the fun. GTA San Andreas is the best game I have ever played in my life. Hell it's even better than the Call of Duty: Black Ops and funner in my opinion. Saints Row 2 sucks and it's a wannabe San Andreas. The car physics suck, the stories and missions are crappy, the character doesn't make sense (because you create it), the city sucks, weapons suck, too cartoonish and other things suck. Siants Row 2 was made to fool around. Don't listen to the user Kane. GTA IV sucks. Here are reasons why:

1. The driving sucks. Too realistic and slow.
2. Running sucks
3. Niko dies easily
4. I just hate how realistic it is. If you crash, you fly off the car's windshield and the guy takes 5 seconds to get up. It's realistic but so annoying.
5. It has the worst storyline in GTA history.
6. They're trying too make the game like your second life. You can use the TV, Internet (You can e-mail and buy ringtones), go to comedy clubs, eat, play darts, play pool, dates, get drunk, realistic driving, go bowling, use the cell phone (You can also change the ringtones and themes). WTF Why put all of this in the game if you can do it in real life? Just a waste of space.
7. I can make more reasons why it sucks but I can't put all of my answer due to limitations in this site.

On the other hand, GTA San Andreas is nonstop fun IMO. The character has a great and ghetto personality. You can customize his hair, clothes, tattoos, fat, muscle and other things. The car physics are awesome and are better than Saints Row 2 and GTA IV. When you drive a fast car, the screen shakes and makes it look fast and extreme. They have many variety of cars such as sedans, rusty cars, muscle cars, classic cars, lowriders, working cars (Taxi, Garbage Truck, Tow Truck etc..), family cars, sport cars, helicopters, planes, boats, army tank, vans, SUV, luxury cars, limos, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, monster trucks, off road vehicles, and the list goes on. You can customize some cars. It has like over 180 cars. The setting is huge and has 3 cities, countryside, and desert. There is too much to explore. Los Santos is based on Los Angeles, San Fierro is San Francisco, Las Venturas is Las Vegas. There are famous land marks from real life. The whole missions and storyline are amazing. There are a lot of weapons. There are too many good things about the game that I can't even finish say it. I play the game and this is the only game I don't get bored of.

San Andreas only has online multiplayer on PC if you download SA:MP for PC but you need the disc in order to download it.

how much does an average teacher win in NYC?

Q. That's my question? Is there like an average wage for Teachers or it depends on your experience, education, etc.

Also I heard that if you don't win at least $125.000dollars you wont make a good living in NYC.

Answer
Salaries are not ' won '. They are earned. A teacher's salary is based on her educational attainment. The starting salary for a New York City teacher is about $48,000 per annum. Without becoming a supervisor , a teacher can make up to $100,000 per annum. In NYC, making that range of salary is okay if you live in the low to middle income areas. However, if you live in the upper echelon, it is almost impossible to live comfortably based on the cost of living I.e. luxury rental, car, garage rental, groceries and etc.

What can I do in NYC/Manhattan/Queens?

How much does it cost to rent a car from enterprise?

lol

Its only for one day and it's a compact car I want full coverage insurance on it how much would that be

Answer
Hi,
It depends on which types of car you want, and whom you rent it from. Smaller cars can be rented for about Between $50.00 and $200.00 depending on what car you want. Larger or luxury cars will be more expensive. Also, it depends on the distance you are traveling by car from one place to other.

Where do they have the most selections of cars for rentals?

Business

are branches better or airport locations for more selections? For a luxury SUV or sedan.

Answer
hertz is better than enterprise in terms of quality, but enterprise is better in terms of price (unless you get scammed by the sales person).

hertz's policy is to sell any car that is two - four years old, whereas enterprise just give you whatever they have.

You can go online but if you are worrying about the price, it really comes down to whether you buy insurance or not.

what kind of cars does " Enterprice " give for rental?

Wiz

what kind of cars do they usually give in Full size? or luxury? or SUVs? and the prices per day

Answer
Ummm, this is the real estate section...

EnterpriSe gives you the kind of car that you rent. They have subcompact (economy), compact, midsize, full size, standard, premium, luxury, minivan, 2-3 different sizes of SUVs, hybrids, regular vans, trucks, and some may even have a separate category for sports cars or convertibles. The more expensive the car (or the more in demand), the more expensive the rental rate will be.

Would have been easier just to go to http://www.enterprise.com as they list it all out right there.

Where can I get some good coupons for car rentals?

BMW cars or Audi cars?

Q. Which one makes better and more reliable cars I think BMW but I want to know which one you guys pick.

Answer
Audi is the youngest of the three german luxury car makers and is quickly on it's way to the top. having already surpassed Mercedes in sales, its only a matter of time until they overtake BMW. Audi is still innovating while both BMW and Mercedes have seemed to stop. Audi started the mid engine car, then they revolutionized all wheel drive and dominated rally races with the quattro. after that, they started pushing with turbocharged engines for smaller lighter more efficient engines that could still develop power. they also started dominating with lightweight strong chassis with the aluminium spaceframe which culminated in the audi r8 one of the best supercars of all time. now they are dominating le mans races with diesel hybrid technology planned to be part of a hypercar to compete ferrari, porsche, pagani, koenigsegg and mclaren.

BMW on the other hand are very good driver's cars. most BMWs are rear wheel drive with naturally aspirated (no turbos or superchargers) engines. they have very good chassis setups as well as suspension technology. BMW has always said that the chassis of a car must always be better than the engine. this setup allows a driver to really push a car to its limits with less fear of the car becoming unbalanced. their naturally aspirated engines respond with no turbo lag and with a smooth power delivery to help drivers get power down to the rear wheels precisely when they want it. BMW has also revolutionized interior technology for drivers. the iDrive centers paved the way for interior computer controls allowing for drivers to change an unheard amount of settings in the car. (settings range from simple creature comforts like time to turn off lights after engine shutdown, to how fierce the gearbox is or how stiff you want the suspension) BMW allows for a driver to have a car to behave exactly how they want it at any speeds.

in my opinion I like audi better than bmw. seeing as how they are comparable cars, they will have similar power and interior features. most audis are 4 wheel drive which have better traction to the rear wheel drive systems in most BMWs. Audis produce similar power to BMWs with smaller engines because of their turbos. audis tend to have more interior space especially for rear passengers because they are more designed to be family cars rather than sporty cars.
Audi also seems to be innovating more than BMW or Mercedes. BMW has almost removed itself from leading motorsport F1 while Audi is still leading in le mans where technology developed for racing is till being ported over to read cars. audi has also led more consistently in their motorsports fields with some of the greatest innovations of all time. they can be acredited for the mid engine, full time all wheel drive, diesel technology and recently the combination of electric and diesel powerplants to make a diesel hybrid for unrivaled fuel efficiency proving to be a killer on the long track and long race of the 24 hours of le mans. I've never trusted a car maker that's not involved in motorsports. not having the trust in your systems and engineers to compete scares me. this is the reason why I will never drive a kia as they still have never made a sports car.
audis also have the benefit of being closely related to VW cars which might allow for some slightly cheaper repairs if a VW dealership will accept it.

there really isn't a best, just what you feel is best for you. for me, that's an audi. the benefits of a smaller engine, all wheel drive and larger interior are better than a sporty more customizable driving experience even if I do enjoy sporty driving.

just remember that reliability is quite hard to measure on new cars since there aren't many accounts of them being broken. you can expect both makes to have great reliability if you take good car of them. what you are really paying for is the innate reliability of a really well made car. what sets them apart from each other is the features that make them best for you.

Did we have these luxuries 10 years ago?

Q. I'm trying to figure out how fast we're advancing.. I can't remember how the phones were like, if we had 3D, liquid crystal/plasma screen TVs, electric cars, motion sensor luxuries (games, TV), or if we had any touch screen devices (notepads, laptops, screens) in year 2000.
I'm not here to cry about how bad things are wherever you live, but to think about how well the human race is progressing technologically..

Answer
we had some motion sensor type things, i dont remember having a flat screen back then or touch screens. i dont believe we had electric cars til a few years ago. i never saw one til one backed into my car in a Hilton parking garage in LA (go figure). we did have cell phones then but they were giant green screen ones. on computers, i just remember those giant monitors with the separate keyboards. truth is, most electronic companies, mainly phone companies, release a new model/updated version of a product every 3-4 months so we're constantly advancing all the time on everything. in a lot of ways its extremely helpful but i also think we were much better off 10 years ago without all the fancy gadgets cause society is just get crappier the more advanced we get.

Where to Rent a Lotus Elise in Sacramento Area?

writerpers

I want to rent a Lotus Elise or similar 'luxury' sports car for a day from a company in the Sacramento/Fairfield/Vacaville, CA area. Any recommendations as to a reputable company? Any idea what it might cost? It is a graduation gift for a very special nephew. Thanks!

Answer
I would check out Beverly Hills rent a car. They have several locations in CA, NV and AZ. Their rates for a Lotus Elise are below. But depending on how old your nephew is I really doubt they'll rent him a car. Good Luck though! http://www.bhrentacar.com/

Rental Rates
$299.00 per day.

$1794.00 per week.

50 miles per day included.

$.50 per additional mile.

Survey: If you had to get your sister's hand-me-down-car from Sacramento to Houston...?

Q. ...would you pay to ship it, and only take 3 1/2 hours to fly back to Houston? Or would you drive that hellish 3 1/2 days across the Southern California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas deserts in the middle of summer?

Answer
Can you take the Amtrack train where they put the
cars in back and passengers in luxury cars?
I did this coming home from Florida because I was
too tired to drive and I had a blast on the train.

What are cheap sports cars with good gas mileage?

Q. Was thinking something along the lines of a mazda and a mustang. Not too familiar with cars. If you have a suggestion please provide the car's MPG! THANKS.

Answer
Hello I really hope I can be of some help, here is the list I have found to be the best, look each indiviual one up and decide which one you like by price, and mpg

Scion tC, mazda mx-5, mini cooper s, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Pontiac Solstice, Ford Mustang, Hyundai Genesis, Volkswagen GTI, Chevrolet Camaro, Saturn Sky, Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, Dodge Challenger, Mazda RX-8, Subaru Impreza WRX, Nissan 370Z.

Personally my favorite is the Saturn sky, pontiac solstice, Nissan 370Z.

Please don't rate me as best answer unless I helped.

Need New Car With Better Gas Mileage?

dreams2Bte

I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavour XLS. It is horrible on gas mileage. I drive alot due to my work. However, I love the benefits of an SUV. Primarily the fact that you are "sitting up high." I am short and this helps me see better. With gas prices what they are and no predictions of them going down I cannot afford to put gas in this any longer. It takes me $80 to fill up and it only last about 3 days. I am going to trade it for a car (sedan) but I want some advice as to what is a good car to look at after being used to an SUV for so long? What has good gas mileage? I don't want a "grandma" car either but I don't want a sports car. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Answer
It would be nice if you gave us a price range and what kind of MPG you wanted. There are tons of cars out there so you need to be a bit more specific or people will give you a bunch of random answers that wont apply to you.

Which is the hottest convertible sports car for sale?

Susan W

Answer
I am no car expert but this is what I found out from the net.

Toyota Camry Solara is one of the hottest convertible sports car for sale. It is 190 inches to 191.5 inches in length, 71.1 inches in width, and 55.1 inches to 55.5 inches in height with a wheelbase of 105.1 inches. Its fuel capacity is 18.5 galloons. It is manufactured from 1999 to 2003 and was assembled in Cambridge and in Ontario, Canada. It has SXV-20 (I4) or CV-20 (V6) platform. Its engine could be 2.2 L 5S-FE I4 or 3.0 L 1MZ-FE V6. It has two modes of transmissions which are 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual.

Joining the list of the convertible sports car for sale is the Cadillac Fleetwood which has both sedan and coupe or convertible versions which differ in body type. The sedan is a 4âdoor while the convertible is a 2-door.

Another coupe in the convertible sports car for sale list is Saab 9-3 (pronounced "nine three"), which is badged as 93. It has both hatchback and coupe or convertible versions which differ in body type. The convertible is a 2-door while the hatchback may be a 3-door or a 5-door.
