What's a good first jdm car?

Ankit

I am turning 16 soon and I'm looking to purchase my first car. I have 15,000 and a couple of thousand here or there. I am looking to either build a car, such as an s14 sr20 black top, or get a fairly used car with mileage under 50k. The car I want has to have basic luxuries and rear wheel or all wheel drive. The car can be European, Japanese, or anything with modification capabilities to look slammed jdm. What car is good and relaible through college an years after?

Answer
Do you even know what JDM stands for? It sure doesn't sound like you do.

JDM stands for Japan Domestic Market and the ONLY cars that can be referred to as JDM are cars specifically built for the domestic Japanese market. In other words they are not exported to any other country. At least not legally.

Keep dreaming, keep watching movies and keep reading your car magazines but when it comes time to buy a car buy one that was designed and built for the US market.

Did the treaty between Germany, Italy, and Japan somehow affect companies such as Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, Toyota, Nissan, etc?

Answer
Define "best", please. While German engineered and manufactured cars are considered to be highly reliable, most people that have ever owned a Volkswagen would tell you that there are British and American cars that give German cars a run for their money. Mercedes and BMW were never designed to act as family cars, they're designed for sport or luxury. If you are willing to spend a lot of money for either of those things or simply for status, then you don't need to buy a German car. Italians make fantastic sports cars but the automobiles manufactured in Italy for everyday use are nothing to write home about. Not to mention that because the number of automobiles exported by both Germany and Italy is a fraction of the total numbers of cars on roads all over the world, both German and Italian made cars can be extremely expensive to repair depending on where you live. The Japanese make both family, luxury and sports cars, namely because nearly every factory that had been devoted to munitions, weapons and heavy industry in general was converted after the war and with the advent of the wonderful system of roads that was being laid out following the war, the demand for more and more automobiles was ever increasing. American made cars were designed for long distance travel and gas mileage wasn't a big factor (and in many cases, it still isn't) European roads are much more narrow and the distances are rarely anywhere near as tremendous so the automobiles were both designed and built to a different standard. But there is no such thing as producing the "best" automobile. People that live where I live wouldn't trade their Range Rover for the most top-of-the-line model luxury or sports cars because they wouldn't be worth spit on the roads here.

Amsterdam and surrounding areas How to get free Rental Car Upgrades in Amsterdam and...?

Shelli

I will be traveling to Amsterdam and surrounding areas. Although, I've spent time in this region I've never been in charge of "THE RENTAL CAR"...I rented cars in US but seldom so any advise on costs , upgrades and discounts for the 10-day stay I woud appreciate. To my surprise taxes are almost as much as the vehicle themselves.

I'm looking for free upgrades or discounts I might be forgetting about..Ive looked into AAA, NSCS, and web sites...I have not seen a "nice sporty car--or even safe" for less than $1000 for the 9-day. Also, the "intermediate " section is something to be desired. What is the intermediate car--An Irkle Car? I drive an infiniti and to be frank; nothing drives like an Infiniti.

So I could use some advice on what type cars are "decent" and "available" as well any upgrades anyone might know about at a reasonable price. Oh, Manual Car or Automatic-does not matter.

Answer
I have used sixti.com on occasion. (leads to sixt.com)
A luxury class is indeed around the $1000 mark - but you could get a cheaper option as well.

For example - a small Renault Twingo would cost you (for 9 days with pickup and return at the airport) around 300 Euro (approx. $425 - source xe.com, july 19th)

For sporty, i`d say a Seat Leon is a good option - which will set you back 387 EUR - 548 $.

I do not know this infinity - except from pictures - and that type would be expensive.
An alternative could be the BMW X1 @ 495 EUR / 700 $.

As these are basic prices - any options will mean more $$$.

For all Saturn Aura owners, how do you like your cars? Did you buy new or used?

Answer
I don't own one, but I was there when my aunt bought a 2006 Aura XE.I test drove An Aura XR, and I can see why It was The North American Car of the Year. It is a Large, Powerful affordable Luxury Car. I can't think of any reason it wouldn't be a great car. The Comfortability and ride height is phenomenal and the smoothness of the ride is wonderful. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Remember, no car is perfect.

What car under $25,000 is good for racing?

bob

My dream car is a mustang GT500. But I can't afford one yet, what is an overall good, fast, and powerful car that is under $25000.
It can be new or used.

Answer
If you are looking new, check out the MazdaSpeed 3 Sport, which starts at about $23,500.

Same horsepower as the Cobalt SS mentioned above and twice the reliability.
Plus, it will hold its value better.

Before I bought mine, I test-drove the Cobalt SS, Civic Si and Subaru WRX.
The MazdaSpeed is the best value for the money.

Best sports car for under 30,000?

justdontkn

In everyones opinion whats the best car (preferably a sports car/2 door)to make an investment in that will be fast, have low maintinence, nice looking exterior AND interior etc. ? Im looking for something under $30,000.

Answer
No sports car is low maintenance. If you don't like the idea that dumping $1000 worth of tires into it every two years (or less, depending on your driving style) is considered basic upkeep, move along. However, if you don't mind expensive brakes, RWD (most likely), and the expensive service these cars require, you should have plenty of options. Granted, they're mostly going to be used cars, but to varying degrees.

Almost any slightly used (2003-2008) Mercedes AMG will destroy its BMW counterpart. BMWs are also notoriously unreliable and are simply not as well-built or powerful as Mercedes.

I personally do not care for the Audi lineup one bit but the TT is a sporty and inexpensive little coupe (or convertible). You can find a 2006-2007 for under $30,000. The 2008s are going for about $32,000 which can be haggled down with no problem. They are leftover stock and dealers just need to clear the lots at this point. They'll practically give them away.

The Mercedes SLK is not expensive either and a 2006 SLK55 AMG will run about $27,000 (search autotrader.com to see for yourself). Just keep in mind that the non-AMG version of the SLK isn't worth buying.

For under $30,000 you should also consider:
2007-2008 (maybe) Nissan 350Z
2008 Infiniti G37 coupe (not recommended)
2003-2004 Lexus SC430 (very sexy)
2006-2007 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible
2006-2007 BMW Z4
2003 Maserati Cambiocorsa (though it will not have inexpensive maintenance by any stretch of the imagination)
2005-2006 Cadillac XLR

what is the safest sports car under 30,000?

mrunsheila

Im looking at the pontiac, solstice or the saturn, sky? Which one is safer. Any suggestions?

Answer
The Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are identical under the sheetmetal. Saturn is moving up-market, so the Sky is more expensive. Those are the only two differences. Neither is particularly safe, being small convertibles. You really don't have too many options for pure sports cars under $30,000. The Mazda MX-5 is also a logical alternative and is very similar to the Solstice/Sky twins in nearly every category. It was listed among Forbes' top 21 safest cars. The Honda Civic Si is also listed among Forbes' top 21 safest cars, and it is fairly quick.

How much would this classic sports car sell for today?

Michael Br

I don't think Kelley Blue Book takes into consideration if a car is a classic or not.
It's a 1985 300 ZX Turbo with about 70,000 miles on it. Been garage kept ever since and it's basically in like perfect condition. How many thousands would it go for today you think? Thanks guys!

Answer
As far as sports cars go this 85 300ZX might be nothing special, but in certain markets this low mileage, turbocharged sportscar would be quite expensive sitting on a dealer lot.
Assuming you say perfect body, interior and running condition, with an attractive color paint I think this car could go for $8000 asking price.

Luxury Car Question..?

Anthony

Ok, I know for a fact that most luxury cars below the year of 2008 kinda has a low re-sale value, because people don't need luxury cars because they'd rather buy everyday cars below they don't wanna pay for maintenance, premium gas, etc. I love cars like Audi, BMW, Benz, Lexus. Not the richest person in the world but OK. Lets use this example, An used 2009 BMW 328i would cost about 19-21K. A used 2009 Audi A5 would cost about 29-31K. Why is it that Audi's have higher re-sale value? Like they both cost around 40-50K new but BMW loses value faster? I prefer BMW but Audi's look very sexy though. =/

Answer
Audis don't have higher re-sale value. You're comparing the wrong cars.

A BMW 328i compares more to an Audi A4, not the A5. Perhaps an A5 is halfway in between a BMW 3 series and a 5 series......but it doesn't directly compare to a 328. A 328 does not cost $45K - $50K new....that's much closer to a 5 series. It's not that the resale percentages are any different. 45% of a bigger number is a bigger number. It's just a more expensive car to start with.

A 2009 A4 books for around $18K - $19K, less than the 328.

Luxury Car Salesman ?

Money

Hello I'm a 18 year old female and I am interested in becoming a sales representative. My local bmw dealership doesn't require experience you just have to be professional and of course a SELLER! I wanted to know how much do they get paid? What are the benefits like? Hours? Can you just give me a insight about the job. Thank you!

Answer
Hello.

Take some of this with a grain of salt because I worked as a client adviser for Porsche in the bay area when I was in college....about 20ish years ago.

Now we did have to have experience. Aside from a perfect driving record, knowing how to drive a manual and high performance vehicles etc. you also had to have a great sales record before coming to work for the dealership.

Once in the hours at my shop were flexible and it wasn't overstaffed. Id be worried about working for a shop that doesn't require experience because they probably hire many more people then they should need and that can make it hard to get paid.

We had two teams each run by a sales manager. Pay was a little complicated. Everyone got a salary of $1000 per month base. Then you got a fixed payout per new car sold. A used car you got a percentage of the difference between what the dealership paid for the car and what you sold it for. The more you could get it sold for, the bigger your paycheck.

If you made plan you got a bonus. The bonus was tiered. If you made plan it was a certain payout, if you beat it by a 10% you got more going all the way up to doubling your plan and a pretty massive bonus.

The benefits were ok, but I was young enough to be on my parents insurance. We had a pretty lax car usage policy. If you were there over a year you were in line for a demo model and that ruled. The hours could be long but some guys there made real good money, in the 8 to 10k per month range or more.

If you didn't meet goal 3 months in a row or 4 months in a year you were terminated unless you had a really good reason.

Hope that helps.

Do luxury cars depreciate faster than average cars?

Jason Sant

I am planning to buy a car. Being a business major and being the thrifty person that I am I would never buy a brand new car because once you drive it out the dealership it already depreciated. A one to two year old car is an ideal buy. My economics professor brought up a good point that luxury cars are cheaper to maintain than normal cars. I live in Hawaii which was ranked the worst state to own a car because maintainance is so expensive.

Answer
I would suggest that you use a shopping tool like Yahoo Autos. Just because it is a luxury car does not mean it depreciates less. Some drop in value faster then a lead ball in a clear sky.
I just pulled up a Ford Taurus and a BMW 5 series. Now the 5 series may not be a true luxury car but it is an up scale car. The BMW depreciates almost 30000 dollars (63%) in the first five years, while the Ford only 15000 dollars (48%). Now there may be cars that break this trend'.With the Ford only costing 26600 dollars to begin with is seems that the total cost of the car is almost free when compared to owning a BMW which looses more in depreciation then the Ford costs new.
So do some study, my gut feeling is that it takes a lot of money to buy a car that will keep its resale value up and then it will only be a percentage think. Lets face it, if a car costs 100000 dollars and it only depreciates 10% of its value in a given year, that is still a lot of money!
Sorry, I miss read the question, even if BMW throws in maintanance for free, it takes a lot of maintanance to make up for the extra 15000 dollars worth of loss on depreciation.

Fastest 2-seater sports car for under $20k?

vankilsing

So I have been really interested in getting a retractable hardtop miata and then installing a turbo. Total, it should cost me around $16k (or so i'd like). 350z now have pretty competitive prices used, I am wondering whether it would be better to go with the miata turbo or simply a stock 350z. Is there something better than both of those? No suggestions with worse gas mileage than a 350z please. Thanks

Answer
Price parts for both and look at how easy or hard it is to get them!
The Nissan 350z is not considered a reliable car, if reliability is a consideration this would make it a poor choice. On this issue, this is not just my opinion, but also what Consumer Reports reliability records show.
But there may be a problem going with the retractable hardtop model- there may not be a bolt on kit to turbo charge this engine. Flying Miata at least does not make one. 2005 is as new as their kits go and I am not sure the if Begi makes one either. Flying Miata suggests a super charger works best on these cars. May be read on on the subject at http://www.miataturbo.net/.
As far as a different car to start with- I don't know of a more durable car in this class and price range to start with.

whats a really sports looking car under 20k?

Jesus

im looking for a really sports looking car. or just a fast vehicle like a ford lightning a cobra something just has to be fast and sporty looking

Answer
Are you looking to work on it yourself or buy and drive? If you have the time a 2g eclipse or talon would do the job. If your budget is 20k you could build a car that runs 12's easy.

If your looking to buy and drive I would go with a low mileage SRT-4 or Evo. Check craigslist, you can find some great deals if your willing to wait.

You can usually find a used f-body if that is more your style. Be sure to swing by the local barber and pick up a mullet while your at it.

What kind of car should I get?

Jo Jo

I want to buy a new car. I have a $28,000 limit on my new vehicle. I know that I dont want a Ford because there styles dont appeal to me. What kind of cars do ya'll have that you like or recommend? I need ideas. I'm stuck in a rut.

Answer
You can choose from a great number of pre-owned near-luxury cars in your price range, if you are willing to consider buying a slightly used car instead of new. For this amount, you can find a wide array of models by Acura, Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and even Porsche under $28K, with low mileage (less than 50K miles), less than 4 years old, still covered under their original factory full warranty. The best places for this are online car auctions like motobidia.com.

Can Someone tell me a little more about Dallas?!?

Jalen

I just moved to Dallas from Houston and im trying to force myself to like Dallas. I heard about North Park Mall and how nice it is and have a lot of designer clothing stores but someone please tell me a little more about it! Like is it in a nice luxury area? Will I see fancy cars? Is it better than The Houston Galleria? Also can someone tell me about The Zoo?? I been there but its like in the middle of the hood...why is that?? Why is Six Flags so smaller than Astroworld, or is Six Flags gonna expand? Do Dallas have Mardi Gras? Where are some Rainforest Cafe's?? Do people in Dallas eat cajun food? Do Dallas face some tropical storms one in a while? Do Dallas have beautiful sunny days, and a nightlife? Where are some hottest restuarants? Where is the best place to host a formal event? Are there any celebrities in Dallas besides Deion Sanders?? CAN SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!!! Lol.

Answer
I have lived in the Dallas metroplex my entire life. I love it and would never move. Northpark is an okay mall imo. I don't frequent there because it gets quite busy and there are way too may well-to-do people who shop there and I don't like those types of people. Right now with the economy the way it is, there aren't any awesome malls anymore. Depending on what part of town you live in, you could go to VistaRidge in Lewisville, or WillowBend in Plano or even Stonebridge in Frisco. Like I said, it depends on where you live. The Dallas Zoo is really there for convenience of the Dallasites. If you want to go to a really great zoo, you must go to the Fort Worth Zoo. They are a little further out but well worth the drive. Six Flags will probably not expand due to the geography. They have always been that size. Hurricane Harbor is right across the freeway but that is all. What you see is what you get. We don't have Mardi Gras but we do have quite a few parades throughout the year for various events. There is a Rainforest Cafe in Grapevine Mills mall which is a massive mall that you can easily get lost in. Dallas has a great selection of restaurants. Go to Dallas Observer and check out the dining section for some great ideas. We don't get tropical storms like Houston, we do get remnants of storms though. Nothing to write home about compared to Houston. The biggest problem you will find here is tornados and wildfires. Not very common depending on which part of town you live in. Dallas has some of the most beautiful weather particularly in Spring and Fall. Nightlife abounds especially in uptown. As far as celebrities go....there are plenty. Sports stars, movie star, etc. Sometimes you just have to look really close. I love Dallas and so will you. Just give it time. It will most definitely grow on you!

Best value for money house rent?!!?

master007

in Scottsdale, AZ i can rent a nice 3 bd house with pool in a good location for 1800 $ , that's very good to find a house with that price in a luxury city.

which other cities i would find nice clean homes in areas the same Standard of scottsdale, az with the same price or close?

Answer
Ok I'm going to pretend I'm trying to sell you an idea real quick. Ok , Ok , I assume you make good money Correct? Well for assumption purposes you do make good money. Now lets say that I knew where island properties were , where you could pay a 4th of that for a 3 bedroom house. But lets say in your head you could lock the notion that your still paying 1800. You could take the difference everymonth and put it in a savings account or some type of stow away type deal. In a few years I bet you could actually own something and greatly reduce your worries and have you at a higher level mentally in life. Where you dont consume yourself with such petty things as a house and cars ect. But I'm not your buisness manager so I say to you buddy good luck with your ventures and may god and the sun always grace you with the light and warmth of a good meal.

How is Phoenix Arizona for visiting?

Kyle Y

I've been think about a vacation in Phoenix for the weekend at the end of March of 2010.I've never been there and the reason why I ask is because I don't hear much about it like popular cities like L.A Miami,New York, Las Vegas etc. Tell me about general things like weather, the best malls what to look for in the city and whatever else you may want to add.

Answer
You didn't mention your age group. We have great museums like the Heard Museum downtown which showcases southwestern art. There are many other tourist attractions here that would be of interest to you. We are the 5th largest city in the US and have the traffic to prove it. The best malls depend upon what you're looking for but I'd recommend Arrowhead Mall and on the more expensive side there is Scottsdale Fashion Square. Tempe's Mill Avenue attracts the college crowd. Scottsdale attracts the young and rich. There are a few casinos on the Indian reservations. The Phoenix metropolitan area is a very popular tourist city and is full of "snow birds" every winter filling up our numerous luxury resorts. We have pro sports teams and attract all the big name entertainers. If you're coming for a weekend you won't have time to take side trips to the Grand Canyon or Sedona but plan on those for future trips. You'll need a car in Phoenix. Our public transportation system exists but doesn't go everywhere. We are located in the valley of the sun surrounded by mountains. The weather should be nice in March.

is a toyota car really that much better than a mazda ?

devil weed

i seen where you can buy a brand new mazda for a little more than 11000 dollars, thats like a 2009 i was looking at a toyota corolla for 12,454.00 and it was a 2005 what sould i do ? what makes the one car better than the other ?

Answer
Toyota has burnished its reputation by building one economy car that has endured many generations and have become over the years a household name, the Toyota Corolla. Like the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla has the reputation and perception for possessing a sturdy frame and robust mechanicals. The Toyota brand is a leader with the Toyota Prius, introduced in hybrid formation in fiscal year 1999/2000. Have you heard or seen a Prius on the side of the road? Do you have doubts the technology is less than reliable? Ask yourself, in the Toyota portfolio has their ever been in the ranks a Pinto, Vega or Granada? How about a Yugo, Triumph or Fiat?
Toyota capitalizes off of having an already solid product improving upon the brand. Is Toyota perfect, hardly, but what they do is have the state of the art manufacturing process, "just in time" assembly lines, whose best practices are crossing over to hospitals, to save precious health care dollars. Toyota has rightfully earned the title of global leader, they are pound for pound the best in the business as a mass producer of multiple car lines. The short answer on Toyota is their body of work is heads and shoulders above their competitors. The Toyota line extends to Lexus, who makes an even more excellent car. To crystallize my point, imagine comparing a Chinese made Geeley automobile. In the U.S.Geeley doesn't have a reputation, a body of work, absolutely no evidence anywhere that one could reason, a Geeley is worth a nickel. The difference between the extreme of Toyota and Geeley is brand equity and perception.
Unlike the Chinese Geeley automobiles, Mazda does have a body of work, a reputation and a name that is known for something far and a way from cheap. Toyota now emulates the ghost of General Motors with it's varied car line for all ages, or shall we say stages in life. Mazda is a niche car company, it is the 5th largest car company in Japan. Mazda has made a name for itself building small fuel efficient fun to drive cars. The Mazda brand has invested heavily in emotional engineering and lightweight materials in today's Mazda. In this area, Toyota cannot compete with Mazda's halo car, the Mazda Mx5. Mazda has been building this same car since 1989. Over the years they have perfected the car by revolution by its introduction, then evolution by its staying power. Mazda Mx5 is the best 2 seat road car massed produced on an assembly line in the world, including Toyota past and present.

This is what Mazda does best. Their record says so. Unlike Toyota, Mazda is not a luxury car builder, in this area it is out of its league, but it can provide equivocal economy car and family transportation though with less variety and less sophisticated vehicle options. And, Mazda will not have the dealership network that Toyota continues to enjoy.

And then we come down to the age old question better than. Like beauty, better is in the eye of the beholder. The vehicle has to be suited for the intended purpose of the owners purchase. I would say, hands down the in the Mx5, Mazda builds a better, if not best 2 seat roadster than Toyota at the high teen, low twenties price point. In this niche, Toyota has nothing to compare. Which brings me to my next point. Neither brand matches up to the other's inventory, entirely.

I believe this. It's all about what you want and what you are willing to do to take care of the vehicle. Best is based on the driver's experience who practices no maintenance, cheap maintenance or top notch adherence to servicing the vehicle; this makes all the difference in the known world when an owner will change and replace fluids and mechanical items with the best that money can buy. Mazda can be as good as the next car company, the difference is the body of work, perception in the market place and bragging rights of the brand. Cheers.

Which is the most reliable and affordable luxury car rental place in Vegas?

Celine

I am trying to find a good and fair deal on renting Aston Martin Vanquish. So far, my online searches didn't end up good, most rental spots that have the car either have really bad reviews or are out of state. Anyone has an idea which ones I could contact with my request in Las Vegas, NV and not get ripped off?

Answer
Are you sure you really need the V12 Vanquish? The only place in town that would rent one to you is Beverly Hills Rent-A-Car and it will cost you $3,500/day

If you can "settle" for an Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Rent-A-Vette has one for as little as $595/day

Both are reputable companies that have local offices in Las Vegas.

San Fransisco, Las Vegas & Los Angeles?

autthcaeoo

We're thinking of doing this for our holiday next year, but are unsure of what there is to do in the cities/
We're a family of six 3 adults and 3 children (3 children are 19, 16 and 11) so Las Vegas especially we are unsure of.
Does anyone know of any good/interesting places to go and visit in these 3 places, especially for the 11 year old.

TOP 10 things in San Francisco
======================

* Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square: Together, they encompass much of the stereotypical San Francisco sights and are perhaps the most popular things to do in San Francisco.

* Alcatraz: The former prison wasn't always a place people wanted to go, but today it's one of the city's most popular sights.

* The Golden Gate Bridge: Not only is it one of the city's most enjoyable things to do, but it's also one of the most-photographed sights in the world.

Things to do in San Francisco - Around Town

* Cable Cars are often called San Francisco's moving landmark. And they're a fun way to get around, too.

* Chinatown expresses what early 20th Century Western architects thought Chinese buildings should look like.

* The Exploratorium is a modern, hands-on science museum housed in The Palace of Fine Arts, a Roman-style remainder of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition.

* Lombard, the "Crookedest" Street is neither the crookedest street in San Francisco nor the steepest, but it's surely the best-known.

* Golden Gate Park, the city's largest park.

TOP 10 things in Los Angeles

Definitely the place to go if you feel like taking a step back in time. The La Brea Tar Pits and the George C. Page Museum hold more than a million bones from different animals.

2. Petersen Automotive Museum

Car lovers prepare to feast your eyes when you visit this museum.

3. Universal Studios

Everyone wants to pay a visit to this place where you can see first hand how a big budget movie is made. You can walk through sets used for movies seen all over the world.

4. Sunset Boulevard

Who has not heard of this street? Immortalized in songs and movies and other media, you can find all sorts of entertainment.

5. J. Paul Getty Center

View the Los Angeles skyline from atop a hill when you visit the J. Paul Getty Center. More than that though, marvel at the grand architecture of the buildings at the Center.

You are in Los Angeles and you just cannot NOT go to Hollywood at least once!

7. Rodeo Drive

AND OF COURSE DISNEY LAND RESORTS IN LOS ANGELES

TOP 10 things in Las Vegas
=====================

CityCenter

CityCenter is an urban community filled with fine art and spectacular architecture.

Wynn Las Vegas

At Wynn Las Vegas you will vicariously experience luxury at prices that certainly are not cheap, but on weekdays for most of the year are surprisingly affordable for an experience such as this.

Colosseum at Caesars Palace

Taking over the fabulous Colosseum at Caesars Palace is Cherâthe nearly immortal actress, singer, and songwriter whose career has spanned over an amazing four-decade period. For fans, Cher Las Vegas will be a treat highlighting the artistâs career over time.

The Pool at the Mirage Hotel

When you walk into the lobby of the Mirage Hotel, located in the heart of the Strip, you immediately step into an atrium which is akin to a tropical rainforest. Trees, waterfalls, exotic birds -- they're all here.

The Canyon Ranch SpaClub at the Venetian Hotel

Although this is Las Vegas, the Spa at the Venetian is considerably better than the spas at many luxury resorts which are in the spa business.

The Liberace Museum

I'm not kidding. This is the best $15.00 you will spend in Las Vegas ($10 for seniors 65+) . I'll have to admit that my recollection of the great pianist was pretty hazy.

Gaming Classes at the Las Vegas Hilton

I notice in Las Vegas they always refer to gambling classes as "gaming classes." Is this to make it all sound...nicer? I'm not sure, but I'm glad these classes are available, because I certainly don't know all the ins and outs of pai gow poker.

Dinner at Emeril's

Las Vegas hasn't often been thought of as a gastronome's delight.

Flip It

No, this isn't tiddly winks. It's tiddly's slick and mischievous evil twin.

Stratosphere Tower

Why do the words "only in Las Vegas" come to mind when I think of the Stratosphere Tower? I'll tell you why. This is the tallest free-standing observation tower in the U.S.A.

Okay, I admit it, Las Vegas is too big for a top ten. So here's three more!

The Strip

Casinos

Bellagio Hotel

Is a 2001 Mercedes c240 reliable?

Natalya

I have the opportunity to buy a used Mercedes that is right at bluebook value. It has 75,000 miles on it, and I need something to take me from Denver to Corvallis twice a year for three years with minimal driving inbetween. Let's say 16,000 miles total. Do you think this car is capable of that, or would I be paying too much for luxury rather than reliability? Does anyone know of typical problems that happen with this besides the Mass Air Flow problems I read about? Does anyone own one? Thanks!

Answer
They're generally okay. But, and this goes for ANY used vehicle, how it has been driven and maintained during the past 10 years will have a huge impact on its future reliability.

If you're seriously considering buying this vehicle, make it a condition of sale that it is to be inspected at a dealer or other trusted shop of YOUR choosing prior to finalizing the deal. This will hopefully keep you from getting stuck with any unanticipated repairs in the near future.

How much can I afford to spend?

Mr J Man

I understand if you live in major cities like Chicago, Denver, or New York that even $100,000 per year is considered good but not really rich. However if you live in a small city like me where you can buy a large house for only $600 per month, you can live like a king compared to all of the people in the city who work regular jobs barely making ends meet. I started a new job I have been at for six months now and I still run my internet business where it brings in income as well, so I am guessing I may make $60 - $70 thousand per year now.

I am a divorced man with a paid off car and my house payments are very low with no kids. Heck I don't even get to spend a lot of my checks they just sit in my account as I have thousands of dollars left over after I pay for the things I need. I am wondering how much I can really afford though? I wonder if I could actually afford a new Benz or other luxury, or am I going beyond my means? When I see other people with really expensive cars I wonder how much money they make to afford those things. I naturally assume that they are doctors, lawyers, or married with both working good jobs and family support. Please let me know as I am not sure if I should still live in a neighborhood with people who make a huge deal about spending $10 dollars on something.
Well I do not believe almost everyone with these cars are in debt and suffering. I am referring to the people who can actually afford it. I am wondering since I have been middle class all of my life if I actually make more than I am used to and should live like it instead of holding myself back. The car was only an example, I meant living in a nicer neighborhood because even three working low class people can afford a house. When I get home I see guys with big rims hanging outside like we are in the projects and even though there are no crime reports I wonder if I am able to afford living a nicer lifestyle.

Answer
I used to wonder the same thing... how can it be that everybody around me drives a new car while I still have the same old paid off car.

One day I got the courage up to ask questions... and the answers were shocking. These people are so used to spend over 90% of their paycheck to satisfy fixed bills including car payments, boat payments, house payments, credit cards that require $100's of dollars per month to satisfy the minimum payment due and then there is nothing left.... They have no money for food and their cupboard and refrigerators are empty. They simply can't afford to lightly spend $10 on anything after they paid their monthly bills.

Buy your Benz with cash and enjoy life. You managed to live way below your means and that is a great thing to do.
