Nicole

I would like to make a list of inexpensive sports cars (aka cars that look expensive but aren't really)
Thanx!
P.S. I am not looking to buy one of these cars and i would like them fairly new please :P

Answer
1. Toyota MR2: They are relatively cheap but look a lot more expensive than they really are. Modern ones go for about $8,000 to $15,000.

2. 2002-2005 Ford Thunderbird: Not really a sports car, but it is a car that looks very expensive and has come down in price considerably. Originally they were $45,000 to $50,000, but can now be had for about $15,000 to 20,000, sometimes less.

3. '90s Mercedes 300SL, 500SL, and 600SL: these cars ranged from $60,000 to over $100,000 but incredibly today some have now gone below $10,000. Good condition 500SL and 600SL will still cost a lot,but a 300SL looks pretty much the same and can cost less than a used Civic.

4. Mazda Miata: It doesn't really look expensive but some of the early "90s models can be had for less than a few grand. So for about $2500 you can have a reliable, fun, little convertible that is very cheap to maintain.

what is a good 90s sports car thats affordable?

i have a 91 ford ranger right now and me and my mom are looking to sell that and get a new car. i was thinking about the 95-04 mustang but i dont really like the gas mileage, any help?

Answer
As far as cars in the 90s that are cheap but sporty only a mustang or a camaro. I know that you can sometimes find the camaros for extra cheap without too many problems.

Gas mileage is bad across the board to be honest, but the post 2000 mustangs are very nice and reliable cars. My cousins all own mustangs from that era (5 of them all with 1998-2004 mustang convertibles) and they do not have problems.

Again both the mustang and camaros are cheaper than many cars.

You can always just go for a lighter little sporty hatchback, what way you will have space like you are used to, but you will have more fun driving and get better mileage. I drive a toyota matrix xr and it is pretty fun considering.

What are the best fast and reliable cars under 7k?

sports cars that get great gas mileage on 2004 Jeep Liberty Reviews & ratings - Yahoo Autos
sports cars that get great gas mileage image

Erik

Looking for cars that has:

-fast
-reliable
-two door
-good handling
-great gas mileage
-decent/good mpg
-good looking
-able to add a spolier
-four seats

Any suggestions would be great. Looking for any type of fast reliable car under 7k, regardless of a few specs.

Answer
E36 m3.

High milage 350z nissan

2002 subaru wrx

If its your first sports car, you wont no the difference in handling from a ferrari to a toyota.

Get what appeals to you and learn to drive that car as hard as you can.

I got my e36 m3 at 18 already modded 360hp

I can tell you going from a regular 3 series to an m3 in 2 years i noticed the difference in the car. But if i started in the m3 i would know if it was better handling or not

My 2 cents

What car goes best with a big set of subs?

WI4ED

I'm lookin to buy a new car, hopefully one that will get decent gas mileage since gas is like $20 a gallon. That means I don't want like a hummer or Escalade, i was thinking more like civic, jetta, or corolla-ish thing. I think having my subs blasting in my tiny little sports car would be kinda weird lol, can anyone suggest a small, fuel efficeint car that would "feel right" with some big subs? Thanks.

Answer
Usually the tiny, little sports cars get the best "stock" sound out of them. By that I mean it takes little to no work to actually get great sounding bass out of them. But, you should really buy a car for it's safety features, mpg, etc. and not the sound imaging. You can always work with the car's interior to achieve better sound.

Good luck!

How would you compare a Cadillac to a foreign car?

I want to get a 2001 STS (77,000 miles), but my family keeps saying if I don't go with a foreign, I am going to have trouble, or atleast more trouble than If I would of got a foreign. But, If i went with a foreign, it would not be as high-class as a Cadillac, Cadillacs are considered luxury ...........................are foreign cars considered that much better than a Cadillac?

Answer
ON used cars ...

its a 2001 8 year Old Top of the Line car.

Cars all have problems and things can happen to any car at any time Batterys, alternators, tires, brakes, fuel, etc... Again anything at any time can go wrong. With any car ot truck.

ONLY 63 % of people try to service and take care of what cars and trucks they own and keep everything up to date.

11% just put Gas in and Drive and Have NO clue or don't care. They just don't care. Some of them shouldn't even be on the road. 2%

So Import Vs Caddy ....

If the 01 STS is 77K miles Clean and looks good.
its a great car as used cars go. The motor is Designed after the Corvette LT5 but for Front wheel drive call the NORTHSTAR that have a great track record over the years.

Price VS what needs to be Serviced on the car makes your value. Tires, brakes, tune-up, fuel filter ( last one replaced)

Import.... what can you find for the same price ? With the same track record. or the same Value ? Is what you have to look at.

If I could buy one for trade in value I would buy one.

But most ost more 4200 and up.
http://www.kbb.com/kbb/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?YearId=2001&Mileage=77000&VehicleClass=UsedCar&ManufacturerId=8&ModelId=327&PriceType=Trade-In&VehicleId=3845&SelectionHistory=3845%7c32927%7c76306%7c0%7c0%7c147304%7ctrue&Condition=Good&QuizConditions=

So they hold thier value on the used car market.

Good Luck shopping.

should i buy an used bmw if maintenance cost is a factor?

Dave

I'm curious how MUCH MORE is an older BMW's maintenance cost going to be versus something like a honda civic due to the fact that it is a BMW? We're talking 1999 BMW 3 series, nothing crazy. Already out of warranty, don't need to do the labor at the dealership necessarily.

I ask because I am looking for a used car and found a 1999 BMW 3 Series in good shape and also a 1999 honda civic. So assuming all things are equal, like mileage, condition, options, kbb, price, etc. is the BMW's maintenance cost going to be THAT much higher than the civic that I shouldn't buy it? I'm somewhat price sensitive. I do my own labor on things like fluid changes, filter changes but only worked on very popular cars, not luxury cars. I am not aware of how BMW maintenance operates and if you HAVE to do certain things at the dealer, if parts are much more expensive, if labor is something I cannot do myself like on a civic, etc.

Answer
I have a 199 bmw 323i. it's easy to work on. u only need a few special tools just to take the clutch fan off on the engine(not that expansive)ratchet and and few sockets. i haven't had to take my car to a shop i do all of it. and there are a TONS of do it yourself video and sites (e46fanatics.com, one that i use) all about the e46 (3 series). it is still expansive though to take it to a shop. parts are expansive depending where u buy them and what brand you want. always go oem though. Mine has 201k and still running. the reason i would take my car to the shop is if somethings is wrong with the transmission.

Why whitewall? Look at your tires? Does the white writing have any value?

luxury cars 1970s on Car Lust: INCP--Dodge Dynasty/Chrysler Imperial
luxury cars 1970s image

Ash

Consider the tires on your car. Chances are that they have some raised letters, and even more that the lettering is in white (or infrequently blue).

Other than purely for decoration, is there any reason for whitewall/white writing on the sides of auto tires?

Answer
Whitewall tires or white sidewall (WSW) tires are tires having a stripe or entire sidewall of white rubber. Early automobile tires were made entirely of natural white rubber, however, the white rubber did not offer sufficient traction and endurance so carbon black was added to the rubber used for the treads. Using carbon black for the tire tread only resulted in tires on which both inner and outer sidewalls were of white rubber. Later, entirely black tires became available, the still extant white sidewalls being covered with a somewhat thin, black colored layer of rubber. Should a black sidewall tire have been severely scuffed against a curb the underlying white rubber would be revealed, it is in a similar manner that raised white letter (RWL) tires are made.

The status of whitewall tires versus blackwall tires was originally the reverse of what it later became, with fully black tires requiring a greater amount of carbon black and less effort to maintain a clean appearance these were considered the premium tire; since the black tires first became available they were commonly fitted to many expensive luxury cars through the 1930s. During the later part of the 1920s gleaming whitewalls contrasted against darker surroundings were considered a stylish if high-maintenance bit of "flash", still too flamboyant for those with conservative tastes however. The popularity of whitewalls as an option increased during the 1930s, automobile streamlining and skirted fenders eventually rendered the two-sided whitewall obsolete. The single-sided whitewall remained a desirable option through the 1970s, becoming a hallmark of "traditional luxury" along the way.

What do you see as elements of the Jazz Age which are important to American culture today?

lindsaysus

Answer
Same elements, just a different time period.

The lifestyles of young men and women in the 1920s were as shocking to their Victorian-era parents as the 1960s "hippie" generation was to Americans who came of age during World War Two, or as "Generation Next" is to parents who grew up in the 1970s. Each succeeding generation seems to be born to shock its parents, and the children of the twenties were no exception.

In reaction to uncontrollable forces around them â war, science, society â young people everywhere sought answers in places once considered unthinkable, both morally and physically. Ellen Welles Page, a young woman writing in Outlook magazine in 1922, tried to explain why this was:

Most of us, under the present system of modern education, are further advanced and more thoroughly developed mentally, physically, and vocationally than were our parents at our age. ⦠We have learned to take for granted conveniences, and many luxuries, which not so many years ago were as yet undreamed of. [But] the war tore away our spiritual foundations and challenged our faith. We are struggling to regain our equilibrium. ⦠The emotions are frequently in a state of upheaval, struggling with one another for supremacy.

In their attempt to come to terms with their place in this new world, young people began acting out â trying to test their new boundaries with more and more outrageous forms of behavior. Wilder music, faster cars and shorter skirts were just a few symptoms of this strange postwar era called The Jazz Age.
