I am a teenager, 17 yrs. I want to buy a car but do not know the type that i should buy. I want a car with upgraded technology, comfort and less fuel consumption. I need help with a car that will serve my specification. Your suggestion is highly appreciated.

Answer
I would recommend the new Buick Regal, Ford Focus, Honda Civic, & Subaru Legacy as far as 2WD cars go, although the Focus is available in either AWD or 4WD, not sure which though.

As for AWD I like the new Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Edge, Buick LaCrosse, Lincoln MKZ, Mazda6, almost all Subaru's, Hyundai Sonata.

Almost all of the cars mentioned get pretty decent mileage, and have optional luxuries. I'm not whether you're looking for AWD, 4WD, 2WD, or RWD, but that should definitely be a factor when choosing your car. Also, you may want to decide on a crossover type car, SUV, sedan, or coupe. You didn't mention your budget so I tried to list a variation of brands. Personally, you should check out the websites of different brands to see what all they have on the market.

www.chevrolet.com
www.buick.com
www.nissanusa.com
www.automobiles.honda.com
www.acura.com
www.subaru.com
www.ford.com
www.lincoln.com
www.hyundaiusa.com
www.mazdausa.com
www.mitsubishicars.com
www.vw.com

Almost all of them have the option for you to compare their model to other brands if you just select the car you're interested and look for the button, it should say something along the lines of compare to other models.

Also, if you are interested in used instead of a new car, I would suggest www.autotrader.com or going to the car's brand website and clicking on the certified used button, sometimes under the button that lists their vehicles or at the bottom of the page. If you can't find it just google... ex. lincoln certified used, it should take you to the website for it. These cars go through a nearly 200 point inspection and are a much better/safer buy than just used car. They often come with warranties unlike non certified used cars.

What do you think of the 2003 jeep grand Cherokee?

It has 75000 miles on it and they want 8500 for it. Is this a good car for a 23 yr old male?

Answer
It is rugged and dependable, but there are so many electronics and luxury features, that is it hard to keep them all working, and expensive to fix.
Mine is older, and I only get about 12 mpg.
But it has good power and tows well.
The rear axles are weak in that there is no inner race to the bearings, so eventually the bearings saw a groove in the axles and they have to be replaces, at $150 each.
But that happens around 240,000 miles, so not an immediate concern.
The question is whether you really want to spend the money on gas for a 4WD?

I can't tell you about the price because it is low miles and it depends on how it looks, how much you want 4WD, etc. But compare it with others on craigslist.
Traditionally you get over 25% off by buying from an individual over a dealer.
