Answer
Easiest way to get to Monaco is throught the Nice Cote d'Azur Airport. It is then a 60-100 Euro Taxi Ride to Monaco.

Monaco is lots of fun. Besides the Famous Place du Casino (with the Casino, Opera House, Cafe de Paris and Hotel de Paris), there are many other things to check out:

- The Rocher (Old village) holds the citadel, the Palace, the Cathedral, the Courthouse, the Minsetry, Cuity hall and the Musee Oxcenographique.
- Musee Oceanographique (founded by Cousteau, has many fish aqauriums), just by the Palace.
- Several small museums featuring the Prince's Personal Auto Collection, Stamps, Coins, Princess Grace's Personal Barby Collection.
- Many souvenir stores, luxury stores (Gucci, YSL, Chanel), popular brands (Zara, Benetton)
- The Stade Louis II is the stadium, it host the As Monaco Football Team and other events.
- Formula 1 Racing end of may of each year: the craziest time of the year, but very difficult to get hotel rooms..
- ATP Masters Series Tournament every year in March (The main Clay event before the French Open)
- Many Italian restaurants and Local Monegasque restaurants (good food, and very affordable - 20-30 Euros for a 3-course meal)
-

Around Monaco (all along the coast, within 90 minute drive):
- Menton: World capital of Lemon
- Nice: Nice city which is undergoing a revival (new museums, new tramway system, old district...)
- Cannes: Famous for the Cannes Film Festival. Architecture very typical of the 1960-70s.
- Juans-les-Pins and Antibes: Beaches, Nightclubs, Youngster party scene
- Grasse: Capital of Perfumes
- Eze, Baulieu, St Jean Cap Ferrat, Roquebrune Cap Martin: All within 10-15 Minutes driving and worth seeing - Old Castles, Citadels, Casinos, Restaurants, Landscapes
- St Tropez: Famous or Show Offs and Celebrities
- Ventimiglia (Italy): Famous for fakes market
- San Remo (Italy) Cute Italian City.

If travelling to Monaco, definitely rent a car. Taxis are expensive, but parking is not. A full day of parking in public parking lots is about 15-20 Euros, but if you stay less, you only pay for the time: (1st Hour is Free, 2nd Hours is 1-2 Euros... so very cheap compared to US Cities).

From the US, you can fly to Nice directly from NY-JFK (Delta) or through Paris (Air France), Zurich (Swiss), Frankfort/Munich(Lufthansa), London (British and BMI), Madrid/Barcelona (Iberia), Roma/Milan(Alitalia).

Visiting monaco won't require more than 3-4 days. Maybe adding 2-4 additional days to visit the surrounding cities. Just keep in mind, Monaco does not have any nice beaches, and neither do the surroundings. This area isvery mountanous, so the nicest sand beaches are in St Tropez (and they're not that great anyway).

There is a lot more to say, but I'm not sure what you're intersted in..

exchange student in Switzerland help please...?

bliss

I want to go to Switzerland next year as an exchange student. I know a little bit German. Do people speak English well there? And how much money will i need for a month?
switzerland is a really rich country, can you give examples of the food and clothing prices there?

Answer
Yes, most people speak very good English in Switzerland, especially University students, but your life will be easier if you also know some German - and people will appreciate it if you put some effort into learning their language :)

University students would normally need up to 1800 frs per month to live well, but it depends on the place in live in. Geneva is very expensive, so is Zurich, whereas smaller cities like Bern are less expensive.

You can expect to pay as much as 900 frs per month in rent (you can halve that if you're living with someone else), another 400 frs per month in insurance (it's compulsory, your university counsellor will advise you about this). University cafeterias are normally very cheap - you can have a good lunch for maybe 5 or 7 frs, but in restaurants you will normally spend 20 or 30 frs. The best thing to do, as everywhere, is cook. By shopping at farmers' markets and supermarkets, you will need about 150-200 frs per month, unless you're planning to live on white rice. :)

Clothes...it really varies, obviosuly, between luxury shops and normal shops. Most supermarkets also sell good quality clothes - think trousers for 30 frs and shirts for 20 frs and up. You will need good, comfy shoes and a warm coat!

You should also factor in buses and tram - it's almost impossible to live in the big cities without a travel card. Monthly, they cost around 90 frs, but it's a good investment. In some cities you can move around on a bike if you're good with it (Zurich has so many trams and stuff, I wouldn't like to cycle there), but others are hilly, and cycling in the winter is a miserable experience anyway. And forget about cars - we have narrow streets and closed city centres, so parking is impossible and very expensive. If you're planning to move around a lot and you have some cash, you can buy a 'general pass' valid on every transportation - very handy, but it costs about 3000 frs...

If you're short on cash, remember that Switzerland is expensive but salaries are high - half-time as a supermarket cashier will earn you 1500 frs per month, so if you need the cash, go for it.

Welcome and have a good time!
