What is Dubai like for a visiting student to AUD for 4 months?

Ash

I heard all about the wealth: everybody owns six cars, five houses, and jet set to Italy for the latest Gucci bag.
I'm not interested in that. I just want to take a few business classes and learn some arabic at AUD Dubai. I would live on campus. (thank God because I would surely meet my death in a commute to dubai)
Can somebody explain to me life in Dubai outside of going there for luxury holidays? I want to know how much it would really cost a single student to eat (since I guess thats not included) take some horseback riding lessons (although I don't know about driving anywhere too far) and go places like the movie theater or wild wadi park?
I will not need to spend five days at the Al Burj. Anybody got any idea what normal people live like in Dubai and how a normal student would live at AUD?

.best time to visit? (climate wise)
.clothes NOT to wear? (although I'm already a bit conservative anyway)
.what classes are like at AUD? (if you know)
stuff like this

(heard the kids there are super rich. Well, I'm not. That won't be a problem if I don't happen to be able to go to the England for the weekend or sport the entire spring collection of Armani will it?

Thanks for any of your answers. And since my alternative option is EGYPT, tell me how that fares against Dubai.

Gracias
:D okay, so you are right. Maybe they are not all rich, but thats all you hear about from Dubai. I just wanted to know how people live besides the glam (because I know its not glamorous all the time) Thank you for your answer. I needed at least an idea of how things operate there on a normal basis, whats around the city on a normal basis. Living somewhere is quite different than just a visit and 4 months can become a long time if you don't know what you are getting into. I will check out your sites offered. Again, thanks a ton.

By the way, if I ever do leave campus: go shopping, to see a muesem, a movie, etc, what would you advise taking as far as transportation to these places?

Answer
What makes you think that everybody in Dubai is super rich, owns 6 cars, 5 villas and travels to Italy for the last Gucci bag? You can find rich people all over the world.

Best time to visit would be between November and April if you do not want to deal with humidity and hot weather. But - until April it may be to cold to go swimming at the beach.
All day in Wald Wadi Waterpark will cost you Dhs 165.

Beach wear at the beach, otherwise get dressed decent (no boops falling out, belly free etc).

Classes of AUD

As long as you do not want to leave the Campus, eat in the Cafeteria or go grocerie shopping and prepare your own meal in the central kitchen. Otherwise you will find many places where you can buy "cheap" food like Shwarma, sandwiches etc.

The following link will provide you with things to do in Dubai. Maybe you'll find something that fits you.
