Muscle/Sports car insurance question...?

Jason

Would a 1971 Ford Torino 4 door sedan be considered a sports/muscle car to insurance companies? I am trying to find a way around the muscle car insurance rates while still having a muscleish car. Any other car suggestions would be great.

Answer
It's been my experience that you can get basic (liability) insurance for these cars and the insurance companies don't bat an eye and it's cheap - EXCEPT (and this is a big one) for the fact that you are not covered if it's stolen and they would probably want to total it if you got into a minor wreck. I'd check with a collector car insurance company such as Haggerty if you're concerned about getting it repaired properly if you get into an accident or replacement value if stolen. Some of these companies require an appraisal but many will just go with what you state the value to be.

What is a Cool looking car but cheap on insurance?

Answer
The following cars are listed by car retailers as the cars that cost the least to insure:
Chrysler PT Cruiser 4dr Wagon
GMC Safari SLE AWD 3dr Minivan
Dodge Caravan SE 4dr Minivan
Saturn ION 1 4dr Sedan
Pontiac Sunfire 2dr Coupe
Among Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) the cheapest to insure is the Land Rover as it is found to be less prone to accidents.
Among the small cars Honda Civic is the cheapest to insure as they get high safety ratings and repairing costs is affordable and so insurance companies charge less for these cars.
In the midsized cars category the BMW 3 series wagon is the cheapest for insuring. The reason is they are priced low and the driversâ have loss rates are much lower.
Among Trucks, Dodge Dakota Quad Cab truck with its high ratings is the cheapest to insure.
