Question about luxury cars?

Eric

So a couple of friends of mine are trying to argue with me that Acura is a great luxury brand. Now I tried to explain to them that it's barely a luxury brand by usual standards and that Audi, Lexus, and Cadillac are far superior. What do you think?

Answer
I have owned an Acura and own an Audi. Acura is a luxury brand. Acura is the luxury brand of Honda. Lexus is the luxury brand of Toyota. Cadillac is the luxury brand of General Motors. End of discussion. Each brand has several models called entry level or the cheap models to purchase. Even Mercedes-Benz has entry level luxury models. There are differences in the luxury brand companies and this can change from year to year or even model to model. Car making is rather difficult. Audi has a reputation for quality issues and customer service. I know first hand having problems with my car I have never experienced with another. One perfect car was my, entry level, 1997 Acura CL. I wanted a manual transmission, cloth seats car. I had to wait for it but I got it. 5 years later I sold it and never had any issues with this car. I purchased a 2001 Audi TT at that time and I have had typical problems for Audi that I have never had with any other car. I have had great ownership experiences as well with Infinity, the luxury brand of Nissan. An I-30 and a QX4 SUV. Both excellent cars with excellent customer service. If you want my recommendation, I suggest Acura, Infinity and Lexus over German brand luxury cars any day. Best of luck.

What are the best cars for the price range of: $150,000 - $200,000?

Dee

Im looking for a really nice car. Can someone give me a shortlist of some sports cars, luxury cars. No SUVs, or trucks, just cars like Bentley, Ashton Martin and stuff like that.

Answer
There are a great set of cars for that much money and it doesnt matter if you have the money or not, the point of this website is just to ask questions not always to get real world advice.

so for a pure luxury sedan, your best bet right now is the 2014 Mercedes Benz S63.
the latest S class is an amazing feat of engineering and design. It has features that not even Bentley nor Rolls Royce can match even at higher prices.
here are a couple of the features that make it great.
first, the heating. many luxury cars have heated and cooled seats and steering wheels, but the S class also has heated door panels center console and gear selector lever to make sure that everything you can touch in winter is nice and warm.
it also has massaging seats with a huge range of massage types ranging from invigorating to relaxing and hot stone massages. The air conditioning also has additional fragrances which are designed to not stick to cloth and dissipate quickly. the most amazing features on the S class are on the outside though. it has a huge array of sensors (sonar and cameras) all around the car that monitor the road and traffic to keep you safe. the car monitors where other cars and will keep you from merging into other cars. it can also scan the surface of the road in front of it and prepare the suspension for an extremely soft and comfortable ride. there are also other safety features but they are too many to list. right now, neither bentley nor rolls royce have as many luxury features on any of their cars. on top of that, the S 63 also comes with a very powerful V8 engine that makes it fast (when the S65 comes out it will be even more powerful).

if you want a sports car, you can go through several routes.
you can go for straight out speed in which case the Nissan GT-R is the fastest car you can get for that much money.

or you can go for a more fun car. (fun in a sports car means the ability to drift and do donuts with ease)
the SRT Viper is an amazing sports car for this sort of thing. it's huge engine has more than enough power to get the large rear wheels spinning with ease. add in a manual transmission which in the supercar world is dying and you get a massively fun car.

if you want to go with something thats a bit more classy bu still sporty then an Audi R8 V10 Plus has good speed and more classy looks. it also has a Lamborghini derived V10 engine which sounds great (its actually among the best sounding engines made). the new dual clutch gearbox makes it amazing to drive in town and a beast on a track. the R8 also has a magnetic adjustable suspension to make it as comfortable as possible on roads and still very stiff when in sport mode for the best handling possible. the AWD system from audi also means that you get great grip in all weather conditions. (there are many videos of R8s going on winter drives over snow and ice)

if an R8 is still too uncomfortable for road trips (lack of trunk space and a stiff suspension) then an aston martin V8 vantage offers a much softer suspension with a larger trunk for a nice road trip with a friend. it's not as fast as an audi R8 but it's still faster than most things on the road. Aston Martins also have among the best designs in the world. they are not the fastest, nor are they the most comfortable, most luxurious or even the most reliable but they still win many awards year after year for being cool.

for the purpose of being thorough, im also going to mention the Range Rover Sport. it has a luxurious and large interior but it also offers amazing off road capabilities with an 11.2 inch ground clearance. ( for comparative purposes the off road purpose built toyota FJ and Jeep wrangler and even the Ford F-150 Raptor all have less than 10 inches of ground clearance). There is also an optional 5.0L supercharged engine that lets it accelerate from 0-100 kph (63 mph) in 5.3 seconds for serious highway performance when you want it.

I'd also like to point out that while many cars of that price are just that expensive because of the branding, there are also no cars that can match their performance and features for lower prices so while it is true that the branding is a lot to pay for, it's also true that there are not many options.

if you really care about efficiency with pricing, the best cars out there are the Nissan GT-R for speed and Hyundai Equus for luxury.
