Convert normal car into hybrid?

That guy

Im interested in converting my 2003 lincoln town car to a hybrid vehicle, can that be done? and what do you think is the price for such a job? i believe it is expensive because of the weight and size of this vehicle

Answer
About $5,000 dollars and because it is a large luxury car it would require a bigger engine, causing the fuel economy to be about the same as a conventional car.You would ditch the V6 or V8 that came with it,put in an in-line four cylinder, hook up a generator instead of a transmission, and convert the wheels to electric propulsion. And it would require large rechargable batteries to power the car when going less than 40 miles per hour. There are a few mechanics that were profiled on the radio that specialize in it.With half your car's life gone, you're better off trading it in.Our local consumer advocat prefers compacts like the Scion or Element to a hybrid;repair bills are pricey.

why are hybrid vehicles all small?

Flint

they keep showing us hybrid cars that get 40 - 50 miles per gallon, but they're almost all compact cars.
my dad drives a 1991 geo that gets 49 miles per gallon. why would i get a hybrid that gets the same but no mechanic could work on around here. why can't they offer a 4 wheel drive or a full-sized suv that gets 50mpg?

Answer
Maybe you're NOT looking hard enough

Lexus RX300h is NOT small
Honda Accord Hybrid WAS not small
Saturn Vue Greenline is not that small
Ford Escape Hybrid is not that small either
Lexus have more hybrid luxury vehicles coming soon.
