What is the government of Asturias doing to develop tourism in Asturias?
Answer
Well, yes, Asturias is one of the greenest points in Spain (together with Galicia), but not only green hills and wood will expect you there:
Asturias is clean, well kempt and very friendly fellows.
Oviedo is a typical city in Northern Spain, where visitors can enjoy Spanish traditions as well as typical food and drinks (Cidra = cider).
Gijon is the biggest and very nice city with a beautiful medieval city centre, many shops and also situated next to the Cantabrian Sea, forms the Bay of Gijón or San Lorenzo Bay, where during summer time people come from all over Spain to relax on the beach (as temperatures donât go as high as in Costa Brava or Andalusia).
The coast of Asturias, 345 km. long, presents a splendid and varied collection of beaches, coves and cliffs, like Estaño Beach, La Ãora Beach, Poniente / Natahoyo Beach, Peñarrubia Beach and many more.
There are also nudist beaches there.
There are also well known festivals in many locations in Asturias during the whole year, as the Jazz festival in Gijon, the well known Black Week (Film Festival), several gastronomy exhibitions, local festivals, etc.
Well, and of course the excellent food, as the region is a natural provider of fish, sea-food, meat, vegetables, fruit and cheese, all of excellent quality, fantastic hand made cheeses and of course, the cider and the excellent white wines.
Sports and active tourism is very popular in Asturias as well, you will find such a big offer: Golf, fishing, rock climbing, trekking, walking routs, horse riding, canoeing... itâs because Asturias is a natural paradise,
Guests will find many modern and luxurious hotels in the cities and on the beaches and as well high quality rural allocations in the countryside, such as country houses and country apartments, as well as the so-called hotels of the Paradores chain, which are excellent rural accommodations.
Who comes to visit Asturias?
Well, people who have a great taste for fantastic nature and prefer active holidays to just beach & hotel resorts holidays, people who want to try something new and enjoy great authentic Spanish dishes and wines. People who want to visit real Spanish medieval cities and culture.
Independent people who rent a car and go around on their own as well as these who prefer a classic coach tour come to Asturias.
Asturias offers something for everybody and its beauty usually astonishes people.
By the way, itâs not true, that itâs always wet and raining!
I would recommend this web site: www.infoasturias.com
I hope you will visit Asturias soon!! Enjoy it!!!

Americans, do you think soccer is boring because of the announcer?
coffeeagen
Because I was watching it in Fox and GolTV and the announcer sucks. I love soccer and that announcer made me hate the sport. lol
But I watch it in Spanish and the guy puts heart into it and you really get into the game.
So I'm just wondering.
Answer
the Announcers don't help really and I have a couple announcers that I want to see get fired, mainly every american and that Nigerian guy who commentated on the South Africa opener. For me its because they at many times over the world cup were wrong and very wrong on a lot of things throughout the tournament when talking about what is going on even when looking at replays that are 100 percent contradicting what they are saying. I was happy to see that Tommy Smyth never get time on the TV because I can't stand his accent. Give me Derek Rae any day of the week and I am a happy man.
There are other reasons people think it is boring. For the most part we are new to the sport and if you are new to the sport it can be rather hard to pick up when a goal is about to be scored. In baseball its rather obvious you can hear the bat and tell if it has a chance or you can see that the runners going around, in basketball with the shot clock there is shooting going on a lot, football they are pushing up the field and everyone can tune in when a team reaches the red zone.
With football there is no way you can do that flip the channels between games watching the team in the red zones, goals come like that and even the announcers are surprised to see them go in.
When you watch enough games you can see commonalities like that Spain attack that got them a goal was a good one or that the USA goal against Algeria was also a great counter attack, and there are certain things that you can pick up on that let you know when a goal is likely to happen or not. Most Americans see a bunch of people running up and down, the games we watch involve a lot of strategies and decisions made my the coach/manager. Running the pick and role this time up the court, running a certain pass play, or having the hitting coach tell you to hit a pop fly deep to give players a chance to tag and advance a base. There are breaks where we can talk about what we would call in this situation. There are none of that in soccer always moving always flowing, and during free kicks is the one point of soccer that I think Americans like. They can talk about I'd go for goal from there, or I'd lay it off and cross it, or I'd try a trick play we tried on the practice field.
Outside of free kicks the rest of the game seems rather foreign to us and the rest of the things we call sports, Even in race car driving we can talk about if we would have changed 2 tires or all 4 at that pit stop.
