How would one go about building a car?

I am looking to build a car as just a project to keep me busy this vacation because my parents wont let me go out, i know its going to take a lot longer then whats left of this week but planning will take my mind off the fact that ill be bored as hell. I don't need it to be some luxury sports car just something that looks nice and can run, it doesn't even need to be street legal. What are the parts i would need, approximate cost, and a guide of some sort, tools, etc. I live very close to Boston, MA and am 14 so i would probably need my dad to buy the stuff
