Why do people buy sports cars with automatic transmissions?

It entirely defeats the purpose of buying a sports car and takes all the fun of driving out of it.
That and people that rev their 6 cylinder engines at me at the stop light. Who are you kidding? I am not impressed.

an auto will shift faster and with most sports cars they have sports/race mode on the transition and some kind of manumatic control to shift. a torque converter will also last alot longer than a clutch/flywheel.
i get what u mean about 6 cylinders for most of them (especially NA v6 engines) they are junk performance wise, but on the same hand most v8 have bad fuel economy in comparison and a NA 4 banger wont handle a large car but there are good 6 cylinders like the 3-4L straight 6 from BMW or the eco boost fords
