Why do people over-exaggerate on sports car insurance?

Mike

It's almost as if they don't want the person to be buying a car...
Here are some new car monthly quotes i got with Geico.... Clean record, age 28, married with 4 kids, Michigan

Corvette Z06: $80.43
Corvette ZR1: $94.32
Shelby GT500: $65.34
Dodge Viper: $102.83
BMW M6: $74.82
Porsche Turbo S: $72.49
Nissan GT-R: $78.27

Answer
They go by statistics. That is cheap compared to other states. NY, New Jersey or California it would be double that amount, so be thankful you don't live there! My 21 year old drives a Cavalier and pays $100 a month in my name and a full time student.

Galves Value for my Car?

Robert W

2003 BMW 325XI, 47,500 miles, sport package, Harmon Kardon, Xenon lights, split bench seats, power moonroof. No leather, no power seats or anything like that. What's the estimated Galves value of this car in North Jersey?

Answer
What's Galves? Most dealers and banks use NADA. Go here http://www.nadaguides.com for the prices on new and used cars.

BQ: what if the person you saw get out the car had a Laker Jacket on?
Yes I am a bandwagoner ( I've said it in like 5 of my questions) , but thats not my car.

Answer
Throw a USC jersey on him, and the title of "Worst sports fan" would fit him perfectly.

Is buying a sports car from NJ a bad thing b/c of potential rust?

MKR

I'm looking for a used sports car. One car that has all the options I want happens to be located on the east coast, where it snows. I live in California. This particular car is very rare, only 200 on autotrader.com in the entire nation. Is buying a car from NJ a really bad idea because of potential rust/salt problems? As a California guy I really don't know but a buddy of mine said to stay away from all east coast and Florida cars. The thing is, this car has all the options i want, has only 20k miles, and the pics of the car look flawless, like it had only been driven in summer months. Also, is there a way to tell if the car has rust, some kind of inspection? Is it easy to spot? Thanks for your help!!
details of car: mercedes, 2003, sl500
correction: sl55, not sl500 ...thanks

Answer
True. New Jersey is in what is called the 'rust belt', and is bad for collector cars. However, it depends on the type of car and it's age. If you're wanting a brand new cobra mustang, then you're probably ok. However, if it's a 1966 Shelby Mustang, then I would have it checked out by a Mustang specialist, first. Could be that it is a Florida car and stored in the winter. Do you research before you plunk down your money.
