Buying a sports car at MSRP from Semi-Auto Dealers?

mmenil1

I am looking for a Auto dealer os semi auto dealer in the Chicago Area, or a 20 mile range, which sells sports cars like the Nissan GTR at MSRP price ranges. I have heard from them hundreds of times on youtube and online but I seriously can not find one just by searching for them on google or yahoo. I have placed wild cards and anything in concern for: "chicago" "MSRP" "auto" "dealer". Nothing ever comes up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
And why would MSRP matter?

By simple definition of the term, it's a SUGGESTED price.

That doesn't mean it's the actual factory price.

In fact, the MSRP has basically no bearing at all on most car sales, as it's purely a suggestion. One that NO ONE has to follow. Cars can be cheaper, or more expensive.

More importantly, even if the manufacturer suggests that a car is worth 40,000....does that actually mean it is?

No.

Think it through.

If you purchase a sports car from a dealership and find out its a lemon can u return it to the same dealer?

littleone

I have a vehicle that is a lemon. How can the dealership refuse to give me a replacement vehicle unless i pay $3500.00 down on another car? What Alternative can be taken to get another vehicle?

Answer
A "lemon" in legal terms means a vehicle, within certain mileage and age parameters, that has a history of repeated failures (the same problem over and over, the dealer can't fix it). If your vehicle fits into this category, and it varies by state, then you need to find out your states procedure for filing a claim under the lemon law. If you bought a used car, with no warranty, the dealer has absolutely no obligation to do anything for you.

How much would this classic sports car sell for today?

Michael Br

I don't think Kelley Blue Book takes into consideration if a car is a classic or not.
It's a 1985 300 ZX Turbo with about 70,000 miles on it. Been garage kept ever since and it's basically in like perfect condition. How many thousands would it go for today you think? Thanks guys!

Answer
As far as sports cars go this 85 300ZX might be nothing special, but in certain markets this low mileage, turbocharged sportscar would be quite expensive sitting on a dealer lot.
Assuming you say perfect body, interior and running condition, with an attractive color paint I think this car could go for $8000 asking price.

Does a sport car have anything to do with sport?

heartlessv

When we were younger, we hear adults talk about sports cars. Old Camaros and Firebirds parked on the driveway chipping dried paint and spewing brown rust. Some were ragtop convertibles from the 1970's. Why is a sport car called a sport car when it has nothing to do with sports?

Answer
Back in the day, lots of privately owned Sports Cars were actively involved in racing. It was quite common for a racing enthusiast to buy a little MG or Triumph roadster straight off the dealer's car lot, race it on Sunday and drive it to work on Monday. Even the Trans-Am series back in the 1970's was based on modified production cars like Mustangs and Camaros that started life as factory-built street cars.

Now days with all the commercialization and advanced technology that goes into motorsports, that's no longer practical. The average NASCAR or Formula 1 racer is custom built from the ground up to do one thing, and you would never see one driving on the street.

I'm not sure we have gone in the right direction, but that seems to be where the money is these days... Oh well.

Best sports car for under 30,000?

justdontkn

In everyones opinion whats the best car (preferably a sports car/2 door)to make an investment in that will be fast, have low maintinence, nice looking exterior AND interior etc. ? Im looking for something under $30,000.

Answer
No sports car is low maintenance. If you don't like the idea that dumping $1000 worth of tires into it every two years (or less, depending on your driving style) is considered basic upkeep, move along. However, if you don't mind expensive brakes, RWD (most likely), and the expensive service these cars require, you should have plenty of options. Granted, they're mostly going to be used cars, but to varying degrees.

Almost any slightly used (2003-2008) Mercedes AMG will destroy its BMW counterpart. BMWs are also notoriously unreliable and are simply not as well-built or powerful as Mercedes.

I personally do not care for the Audi lineup one bit but the TT is a sporty and inexpensive little coupe (or convertible). You can find a 2006-2007 for under $30,000. The 2008s are going for about $32,000 which can be haggled down with no problem. They are leftover stock and dealers just need to clear the lots at this point. They'll practically give them away.

The Mercedes SLK is not expensive either and a 2006 SLK55 AMG will run about $27,000 (search autotrader.com to see for yourself). Just keep in mind that the non-AMG version of the SLK isn't worth buying.

For under $30,000 you should also consider:
2007-2008 (maybe) Nissan 350Z
2008 Infiniti G37 coupe (not recommended)
2003-2004 Lexus SC430 (very sexy)
2006-2007 Saab 9-3 Aero convertible
2006-2007 BMW Z4
2003 Maserati Cambiocorsa (though it will not have inexpensive maintenance by any stretch of the imagination)
2005-2006 Cadillac XLR

Buying a sports car?

SImokin

Hello,

I have decided to purchase a sports car many months ago. After doing large amounts of research I have narrowed it down to the following cars.

Honda S2000
Nismo 350z
Evo 10 GSR

If someone has had experience with any of these cars please tell me:
1. how fun it is to drive
2. performace.
3. Reliability

Thanks

BTW

I am buying a new car.

Answer
They are all good cars, but if I were you I'd avoid the Mitsubishi. They have a bad resale value and are no where near as reliable as the Honda or Nissan. Also JD Power shows Mitsubishi dealer service satisfaction is among the worst. I looked at the cars you did, and ended up with a new Mazda Miata GT. I liked the handling better than any of the others. It's very comfortable, plenty fast, and I get just under 30mpg average. Just something to think about.
