What is a good luxury car under $10,000 USD?

Well i finally saved up about 10k for a car, now i don't know what car i should get. I want a luxury car or at least a car that stands out, what car would be reliable in terms of not breaking down easily and the repairs not making me go broke. Also, im a student and under 21, so insurance would need to be average or low ( around 120 or less a month) i have no tickets, clean record, any idea's what car i should get?

german luxury sedans (audi a4, BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class) all go down in price dramatically this means that you can get a fairly good car for 10,000. cars with cheap repairs need to be very common so that mechanic shops can afford to buy their parts and tools. when we look at the distribution of cars we know that there are a lot less luxury cars than regular cars on the road meaning that repairs are more expensive. now lets look at the issue of insurance. if someone gave you money so that if they ever get in an accident you can help them out even if they can't afford to and they drove an expensive car wouldn't you demand more money to help cover costs if they crash? you are trying to get too much out of this situation an 1993 nissan 240 for me (19 year old driver clean record) is around 400/month. forget about a luxury car for now and go with something cheap because a luxury car will not be possible. having a car at your age is cool enough it doesn't need to be luxurious or need to stand out.

I'm trying to stay with newer cars ( '05 and Newer ) I could make an exception for some '04s.

I'm staying away from Trucks and Minivans. And SUVs tend to be more expensive and get bad gas.

So yeah...what are some cars under 10k for a 17 year old?

You're not getting anything good for under $10K thats 2-3 years old. I'd say look at something like a 02 Mustang GT, 01-03 Acura CL Type-S, 03 Acura RSX, or a 01 or so Nissan Maxima/Altima. All of those cars look good(or at least don't look bad), get decent gas mileage, have good performance, and can have some luxury features.

Needs to be family size and 4 doors a must. Also to make it harder, would like auto transition.
Jaguar S-Type 4.2 R Supercharged is 400bhp and is automatic so that top of the list at the moment
BMW M5 (96-03) is good but only manual

I have a limited budget and I want far more than I should spend right now. I'm trying to keep the price as far below 10k as possible.
I found a 2006 Ford 500 limited awd for $8,200 with 81k miles on it. In an attractive exterior and interior (leather) color.

I have been reading bad reviews about transmission and this and that, and I realized now that every car I've had interest in I've also read bad reviews... I don't LOVE this car, but it has everything I want I suppose. I like the inside very much but the outside is a bit blah. For the price though I feel I'd be getting the most for my money.

I am not settled on ford or anything, but I drove a ford focus today and it was small, it drove nice, it was for around 11k, 50k miles, cloth interior, didn't have that wood (faux?) detailing that I like... It was even more blah.

Under 10k is just not going to buy me everything I could want and I do have to settle, I just do not know where or when to settle. I have only driven a couple cars and have been unimpressed. I'm just not sure if I could wait any longer thinking I'll find "the one," if I'm sort of having to settle here.

since you have limited funds, you're in basic transportation mode. you don't get to have the luxuries at your price point, even in used cars.

you want a vehicle with reasonable mileage on it (low is best, but a little high but not too high is ok), one that gets decent gas mileage & you want something in the 3 to 5 year old range that you can keep for at least 5 years. you also need the car to be a size that works for you: can you get by w/ a small vehicle along the lines of a focus or do you need a mid sized vehicle. would a SUV or a truck be more useful to you.

this is why you don't want the 7 year old car--with the problems that model has had w/ transmissions, even if this car hasn't had those problems, it's beginning to approach an age where it will have transmission issues.

start w/ the basics of what you need & go from there. keep in mind that while you're holding on to this car, you're stocking up funds now so in about 5 years, you'll have the money you need to buy more of what you want next time.

I really liked dealing w/ CarMax for used cars. check out their website to see what they have available in your area to get a good idea of what kind of prices you are looking at for your area. If you decide to buy from someone else then you can use CarMax's prices for negotiating (CarMax usually has the best prices because they don't negotiate on price--they do negotiate on trade ins. so if you're trading anything then clean up your car & make sure you know it's actual value going in)

you were looking at the Ford 500. try instead looking at the Ford Taurus (you may have to go to a 2007 but this was a good car & it didn't have a lot of problems), Chevy Malibu, Chrysler 300 (2007 or 2006), Chrysler 200, or PT Cruiser (it's bigger than the Focus & is usually has luxury type items like the wood grain for a low cost but it's smaller than the 500 you were looking at). Mercury Sable--this is a blinged out Taurus (you'd still be looking at a 2007 or 2006)
