New luxury car suggestion, with decent mpg?

Alex

Hi, looking for a luxury car with +25mph city that's a mid size family car

I test drove the Lexus is250H its nice, but I want a bit more power. what else is out there? I really want a V6 with good mpg. I want leather and sat nav and all the safety features, and yet comfortable to drive. Looking to lease new or buy slightly used, price range is 35-60k.

Last car, '07 BMW 335i and an '06 Infinity G35. I have a wife and a kid and I carpool kids around, still I feel like I deserve a bit of luxury.

Answer
I would recommend a Lexus GS450h. It seems to match all of your specifications. Its also much faster and nicer than the HS250h that you test drove.

Lexus GS450h
3.5 litre V6 Hybrid
E-CVT Transmission
340 hp (total output)
0-60 in 5.2 seconds
25 MPG
MSRP: $57,000-$70,000.

Old reliable luxury car?

b00rb

I want a "semi"-luxury car cheap (<$3000), I'm a high school student so I need it to last at least 2 more years, hassle free. I love how BMW's look, but I've heard they're not that reliable, so I've been looking at Infinitis. I want a sedan/coupe with decent gas mileage, from the '90s, and I by "semi"-luxury, I mean I want the car to have features like leather seats, power seats and windows, a/c, power steering, etc. Decent gas mileage is a plus too (15 MPG<)
Any suggestions?

Answer
If you are looking for a hassle free car for $3000 you may have a long wait. Try perhaps a top end low mileage car from a brand not noted for luxury cars, maybe a Hyundai or Kia perhaps. Domestic cars may also be worth a look, such as Buicks or Mercurys. Don't forget a luxury car will still have luxury car running costs, and all old cars will need repairs at some time. Good luck!.

Best used luxury car for ~2500?

Andrew

Hi! I am looking for a used luxury car (Lexus, Acura, BMW, etc.) for around $20k-30k. It's gotta have good gas mileage, around 28 mpg or better. I'm 6"5 btw so it will have to be big enough haha.

That's the most important stuff, but then:
Under 50k miles
Bluetooth/nav would be nice

For the price range, A.) is this even possible and B.) any recommendations?

Thanks so much!

-A

Answer
I don't think what you want is out there.

Luxury cars generally have substantial engines (at least a V6) to deliver performance, and most of those don't get better than 25 mpg, tops. Needing a big luxury car makes it even tougher, both in terms of mpg (bigger, heavier cars or SUVs get worse mileage) and cost (bigger luxury cars cost more).

If you back off your mpg requirements a bit.....I think what you want is doable. Something like a Lexus RX350 for example.....you can get one that's 3 or 4 years old with under 50K miles for $20K - $25K.....but mpg wise, maybe 22 mpg.

Otherwise.....look at smaller cars with smaller engines. Generally, that means non-luxury or hybrid. You don't buy a luxury car to save money on gas. Finally, keep in mind that most luxury cars require premium gas, which increases the cost further as compared to something that doesn't, regardless of mpg.

Good luck!

Best used sport / luxury car for $15k with around 35k miles?

Guanabana

I have ask this question before, but every time people just give me suggestions that are over my $15k budget (some of them WAY over my budget) or are simply cars that are not luxury, nor sport cars.

I am looking for a car that is

A used luxury or a sport cars
For $15,000 or less
with around 35k miles.
That makes at least 22 mpg combined
Pick ups and anything that uses diesel is not a luxury car.

I would be really grateful if you add a ebay link or if you see anything in my local market (Miami).
Bill, it is quite more common to find low mile sport and luxury cars than you may think. Sometimes the owners do not used them as their main mode of transportation, or they just don't drive a lot. My current car is from 2004 and it has barely 60k miles. Actually I have found a few cars in my budget and miles (mostly Audi A4, Acura TSX, late 90s early 2000s Porsche Boxster (doesn't meet my MPG criteria, but I have seen a lot with that kind of millage) just to name a few.
Brent, I ask because after doing my own research, I might find that others people opinion may be valuable or they may find something I overlooked. Yes, those are entry level luxury cars, but are luxury cars. I don´t need to go over 150 mph to commute to work. I want a car that is comfortable and with amenities and if I can´t find that, a car that is at least fun to drive. The Audi A4 is not related with the VW Passat other than sharing the engine, and the Acura TSX is not related at all to the Civic, other than being build by Honda (it is the international Accord, as the TL is also based on the Accord and like a lot of luxury cars are based on other midsize cars). If I wanted just a fast car, I could get a Mustang GT like this one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GT-Premium-Coupe-4-6L-Fuel-economy-EPA-highway-mpg-23-and-EPA-city-m-/130863557190?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item1e78136a46=

Answer
$15K is a little low for a used luxury car with 35k miles. The average vehicle is driven 12-15k miles per year and based on that you would be looking for a 2-3 year old luxury vehicle. Most anything in the luxury category would sell for a minimum of $40k new and few, if any, would depreciate $25k over a 2-3 yr period. Good Luck

Looking for 2010, 2011 or 2012 luxury car for around 30,000 with close to 40 mpg. My wife and I don't want to settle for a Prius or Civic, but we do want good MPG because we drive so much. Is this possible without spending too much more?

Answer
If you take a closer look at the Prius, you'll see that you aren't "settling". It has many of features only found in luxury cars. It's a mid-sized car, not a compact like the Civic, so room is not a problem.

Note that decent luxury cars start at about $45,000.

My 2004 Prius has cost 12 cents per mile for dealer maintenance, tires, and fuel combined over the 120,000 trouble-free miles I've driven it so far.

My 2004 Prius MPG from the logbook. (Complete years only):
2003-2004 -- 50.8 mpg 17,628 miles
2005 -- 52.6 mpg 14,688 miles
2006 -- 56.3 mpg 16174 miles
2007 -- 57.3 mpg 18384 miles
2008 -- 59.9 mpg 21755 miles
2009 -- 61.4 mpg 16177 miles
2010 -- 65.2 mpg 12134 miles

What are some cars that come with leather and are reliable?

Braga

Hi. Im 17 looking for a car. I want to spend around 4.5 - 5k for a car. I was origionally going to go with a Lexus ES300, but its mpg isnt that great and Super gas costs are pretty high. What sort of luxury cars out there that take regular gas and are reliable. I was looking at a Mazda 626, but people have said they're transmission have problems eventually.

Answer
First of all, Mazda 626s, while okay cars, are not remotely considered to be "luxury" cars. The vehicles that fit in this description include Lexus, Infinity, Acura, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes, etc. Virtually all of them will have leather seats, though there all always exceptions. Unfortunately, the only luxury cars that will be in your price range are going to have extremely high miles on them. If this is not a concern of yours, then go for it. Plan on sinking quite a bit of money into your car the entire time you own it.

I'm looking for a new used luxury car. I'm current getting 33 average MPG with mostly highway driving. I'm looking to get the same or better MPG with a newer car. I require a luxury car, and not an entry-level model. Two or four doors is OK. What would you recommend to me?

Answer
BMW 335D 23city 36 highway.

Are there any luxury cars that are fuel efficient?

Carlos

When I say luxury I, for the most part, mean cars like Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Bentley, Porsche and cars of that nature. I guess most production, street legal cars that go over $100,000. By fuel efficient I mean at least 25mph which I know is not that good but luxury cars aren't that great with gas mileage in the first place. I'm not looking to buy anything in the near future, just a little curious.

Answer
Mercedes and Porsche make a few diesel models. But most are less than $100.000, but Porsche does have the Panamera Diesel. It get's pretty decent MPG and it costs over $100.000.

But all the other cars you named are not fuel efficient. Luxury cars above $100.000 also have really big engines that put out a lot of horsepower.

Most top luxury cars average around 15mpg I would say.
