I'm guessing about a grand a day

trip to Chicago cost?

Crystal

Me and my husband wanna take a 3 day trip to Chicago. How much would it cost us, how much should we bring for a hotel, food and a lil souvenirs? We are also on a budget. We have about $400 saved so far

Answer
I'm guessing that the 3 days will be on the weekend (Friday-Sunday) and that you and your husband will be coming from a location in the ''immediate Midwest'' (Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Missouri, Kentucky or even Southern Illinois) If so, a standard rental car will be at least $150+ with insurance, GPS rental and any additional fees for a weekend getaway (give or take). If you have your own car, budget at least $120 for gas, to be on the safe side. NO hotel within the ''Loop'' or nearby will be under $150 a night. Having a car gives one the luxury to drive a little on the outskirts for modest accommodations. May I suggest the Best Western of Morton Grove for at least $80 a night with tax (this could change if your weekend getaway is booked around the upcoming Easter holiday April 20th or Memorial Day weekend May) Food shouldn't be more than $60 for you 2 if you keep your meals in the area of the Olive Garden level, which will be tough as Chicago is known for its great variety of yummy foods. During your weekend stay, you can stroll along ''Mag mile'' (Michigan Avenue) and visit many places with souvenirs for a decent price, which you can budget $20-30.

FYI: if you stay at BW Morton Grove, drive and park your car at the Howard street Station on Howard/Hermitage and hop on the ''L'' by purchasing a pass at the station. This will avoid looking for parking downtown. In addition, the ride on the ''L'' to the ''Loop'' is very scenic.

With all said, You have $400 save. Save an additional $200 to total $600 which is the minimum for your trip. I believe you can see a few of Chicago's great sites, which will leave one with the sensation to return again for an even longer visit.

Have fun and hopefully you will have time to stop by Gino's East and taste some of Chicago's great deep dish pizza.
